Both the Accommodation and the meals exceeded our expectations—this is a place we truly want to stay at again! The Room was very clean and comfortable, and the Onsen in the Room was amazing. The river was right in front of us, and spending time listening to the gentle stream was incredibly soothing. Everything at the BBQ dinner was delicious, but the burger in particular was outstanding—it made us think, “Now we understand why it’s so highly recommended!” The sweetfish, shellfish, and vegetables were all excellent as well, and we were completely full and satisfied. Breakfast was also great—the freshly baked bread and sausages were especially tasty, and it made us feel happy from the morning. It’s a wonderful Accommodation where you can relax and refresh surrounded by nature. We’d love to come back again in a different season!

The baths are wonderfully relaxing. The open-air bath is outstanding, with a view of autumn foliage, the well-formed sulfur-steaming valley of Owakudani, and the lush green grass of the former Mt. Asahi ski slopes all coming together right before your eyes. The meals are carefully prepared and delicious across the board. I also remember a dinner from over 40 years ago, when a hotel staff member told me that this place sits at a higher elevation than Takenokoyama in Naeba. The building is old but solid, and I think it would be even more appealing with some updates to the interior.

I stayed on the Shinshu Beef Plan. The meat was more generous than expected and absolutely delicious. There were also plenty of fresh vegetables, and the simple preparation let me fully enjoy their natural flavors. The Facility is old, but it has many furnishings that convey its history, and the overall atmosphere lets you immerse yourself in a Showa-era vibe. Perhaps due to energy-saving measures, some corridors and the post-bath lounge felt a bit dark at night and were slightly unsettling, but I can imagine how challenging it must be to maintain such large-scale facilities. The Onsen is one I want to visit again and again—please keep up the great work!

Blessed with great weather, we arrived at Happu Onsen via Kusatsu. The autumn leaves—something we hadn’t expected much from when planning—were unexpectedly beautiful, and we stopped many times along the way to enjoy the scenery. We arrived a little early, but they kindly allowed us to check in and enter our room. The room “Tougetsu” had been beautifully renovated, and we were completely satisfied. The moment we stepped inside, we could faintly smell sulfur, and we were moved by the stunning autumn colors of Bunadaira visible from the window! Both the room and balcony were meticulously cleaned, making our stay very comfortable. It was a bit disappointing that only one person can fit in the bathtub, but the sulfur spring water—with yunohana drifting through it—was always kept at a perfect temperature. Both dinner and breakfast were excellent! The portions were generous as well. All of the staff were very pleasant, which made us happy. Thank you for the wonderful meals. After dinner, when we went outside to look at the stars, someone at the front desk lent us a flashlight, which was very helpful. Under ideal conditions on a new-moon night, I was able to see the Milky Way for the first time in my life. Our stay at Higashitate became an unforgettable experience. Thank you so much to all of your staff. We will definitely be back again.

- They flexibly accommodated our request to change the Room location, considering convenience for the bath and dining room. - We appreciated the warm hospitality of the woman in charge of meals. - The female front desk manager kindly agreed to take a commemorative photo for us. We left the Accommodation with a very positive impression.

This was my third stay, and as always I was very satisfied with the meals, the baths, and the hospitality. The dinner in particular felt like a course meal, which made it enjoyable to savor at a relaxed pace. Being able to enjoy a variety of wines and sake with the coin system was also a real treat for anyone who loves alcohol. They also provided guidance on recommended spots for firefly viewing, and I was able to see countless fireflies dancing in the night. The mornings and evenings were cool, so the duvet came in handy. I would love to stay again.

We stayed in the Pine Building to spend some relaxing time as a family. The manager was very friendly and kindly explained everything, so we were able to enjoy a comfortable stay. We had planned a barbecue in the very spacious garden, but unfortunately it rained. We were told that rain-cover Facilities will be added soon, and this time they provided us with a parasol, which allowed us to enjoy it. The open-air bath exclusively for the Pine Building was spacious enough, and since it is fed directly from the hot spring source and runs slightly hot, we were able to adjust the temperature using the provided yumomi paddle and even try yumomi ourselves. We also enjoyed an evening stroll of about 10 minutes on foot to Yubatake and experienced Kusatsu at night. The surroundings were very quiet at night, allowing us to relax. As this is a relatively new Accommodation, everything felt very pleasant. We would love to stay again.

My wife, my parents, and our dog stayed here. Some pet-friendly Hotels have lots of restrictions in the shared areas (like requiring a crate), so this time we chose this entire house rental. The Facility was clean and had a nice atmosphere, and the bath was very large for one person—very satisfying. There aren’t many items left out, so we felt at ease knowing our dog wouldn’t chew on anything. We didn’t include meals, but we ate out near Yubatake for dinner. For breakfast, we had bought various local foods at roadside stations during our trip, and we enjoyed them together as a family. There were hardly any people around the building, and it was wonderfully quiet—just the sound of insects—so we could relax. I also thought it would be a great place to bring friends visiting from overseas. Also, when we went to pick up the key, the foreign staff member was very kind and helpful. Thank you very much.

It was a wonderful Accommodation. The Room was spacious, and the open-air bath in the Room was large and continuously flowing, so I enjoyed it many times. There are two private indoor baths and one private open-air bath, so the bathing facilities are excellent. Dinner was served in the Room, everything was delicious, and I finished it all. Breakfast was served in a private dining room with partitions, and it was convenient to order refills of rice, miso soup, and tea via tablet. Breakfast was also very delicious. Having chawanmushi at breakfast made me very happy. I also appreciated that coffee after the meal could be brought to my Room. It stayed cool even in summer, and I was able to relax and fully enjoy both the Onsen and the meals at a leisurely pace. I would definitely like to visit again, and I look forward to staying with you then. Thank you very much for your hospitality.

I stayed here solo. The inn has a charming wooden design. The room was spacious, and when I opened the window, I could hear the soothing sound of the river flowing by. There are four private hot spring baths, and the meals were delicious and served in a private dining room, so I hardly had to see other guests. The parking area is a little far away, but they provide a shuttle service, so it wasn’t an issue. It was a wonderful place to stay.

I stayed at this Accommodation during the summer season.\nThe entire building had undergone major renovations, and it was very clean, making for a comfortable stay.\nThe food was delicious, and the chef-made omelets at the breakfast buffet were outstanding.\nIn addition to the large public bath, there was also a private family bath, and I could use the free massage chairs. After bathing, it was wonderful to cool off in the evening on the balcony on the third floor while enjoying a beer.\nIn winter, staying in the Ichinose area offers better access to the ski resort, so I would love to stay here again if I have another chance during summer.

With check-in at 2:00 PM, this Hotel is recommended if you arrive in Kusatsu early and want to sightsee around Yubatake first. However, it’s hard to tell from the map, but walking from the Hotel to the downtown area where Yubatake is located requires going up and down a very steep hill. It’s about a 10-minute walk one way, but the uphill stretch is quite tough. The in-house Facility, public bath, and Room had been renovated and were clean and comfortable, but I was unlucky with my Room—the sound of rain hitting the Facility roof outside the window was loud and made it hard to sleep—so I rated the guest room two stars lower and overall satisfaction one point lower.

The building’s atmosphere, the Room, and the service were good. However, the open-air bath is outdoors and the men’s and women’s baths are separated by only a single wooden board, which felt far too insecure. Meals were buffet-style; I felt the selection was somewhat limited, and the soba seemed either not properly chilled in water or overcooked—it was unpleasant, like eating lumps of flour. Also, it was disappointing that the sauna is not available in the morning.

We chose this Accommodation for our kids, who love buffets. The buffet used plenty of ingredients typical of Gunma Prefecture, which we found really interesting! The manga corner and table tennis were also a hit with the kids!

Recommended for guests who want to fully enjoy skiing. The paid First Track option before regular operating hours is well worth it. You can also take a bath after check-out, and there are four washing machines available free of charge, which is very helpful for longer stays. The Room is small, but if you think of it as a ski training camp, it’s comfortable.

The property located within the ski slopes offers excellent access. While the age of the building and facilities cannot be denied, the onsen, with its Yunohana, is quite pleasant. All the staff members are very nice. Perhaps it's the nature of the area, but it was very good.
