I visited Hiiragiya again. I had made a Reservation for a Room with a bath and toilet, but I was first shown to a Room without them. It was still very comfortable, but when I asked to Check Reservation, I was told there had been a mistake, and you kindly arranged for me to stay in the Room associated with author Yasunari Kawabata. Thank you for your thoughtful care. Once again, I enjoyed Kyoto’s summer flavors—chilled edamame soup topped with sea urchin, pike conger sashimi, grilled tilefish with crispy scales, jellied soft-shelled turtle broth, Kamo eggplant with sesame sauce, and more—then fully enjoyed Yoiyama and fell asleep thinking of Mr. Kawabata before continuing on to the Gion Festival. Kyoto is changing little by little, but this is the beauty of Japan—and the spirit of Japanese hospitality—that I hope will be passed on to future generations.

Its kaleidoscopic beauty resonates deeply in the heart. Exquisitely prepared with sincere care, the cuisine is truly delicious. A beautiful garden that reflects the seasons—so captivating you could gaze at it forever. Elegant summer décor that lets you fully experience Kyoto’s traditional culture. Hanging scrolls, ikebana, and a beautifully arranged Room down to every detail. The head chef, attendants, the young proprietress, and the proprietress herself offer warm, attentive hospitality with genuine grace. Thinking that all of this beauty is an expression of love for each guest fills me with freshness and gratitude. At Kikkawa, you can feel the refined spirit of Kyoto—an appreciation for making everyday life beautiful and joyful. It began as an Accommodation I hoped to stay at at least once in my life; before I knew it, this was my 11th visit. A superb culinary Ryokan I wholeheartedly recommend to anyone who truly loves Kyoto.

Thank you very much for a wonderfully comfortable Multiple Night Stay of three nights. When I returned from shopping, a male staff member in the lobby kindly asked, “Shall I take your luggage to your Room first?” Thanks to that, I was able to relax and enjoy sweets and coffee at the café. He was an excellent staff member. As expected of Okura Hotel. I will be staying for another three-night Multiple Night Stay at the beginning of the year, so I look forward to seeing you again.

My family stayed at The Gate Hotel when it first opened near Kaminarimon, and we became fans. After staying twice at The Gate Hotel Kaminarimon, time passed, and we were finally able to stay at the Takasegawa Gate Hotel, which we had long wanted to visit. Both my mother and I were deeply moved by the thoughtful hospitality; the high level of service was just as wonderful as when we stayed in Kaminarimon. Breakfast was even more delicious than expected, and we were also impressed by the attentiveness of the young staff.

With Sanjo Station nearby, the location offers excellent access to sightseeing spots, and strolling along the Takase River and the Kamo River just steps away is very pleasant. The breakfast selection was extensive with both Japanese and Western options, and everything was delicious. This is a Hotel I would definitely like to stay at again.

I stayed for four days starting July 13. -Front Desk Staff- First of all, my sincere thanks to everyone. Due to personal circumstances, I consulted in advance about arriving earlier than planned. You kindly offered thoughtful suggestions, and at check-in the information had been accurately shared and handled perfectly. You also saw me off pleasantly at check-out. -Location / Surroundings- An excellent location in the heart of the city—Teramachi-dori, Shinkyogoku Shopping Street, Rokkaku-dori, and Sanjo-dori. Very convenient for dining and all kinds of shopping. -Hotel- Although it is a very busy area with many visitors (including international travelers), once you step into the Hotel everything changes—there is a quiet, relaxing atmosphere. The toilet and bath are completely separate. The bath is spacious and comfortable. The room is fully equipped with everything needed, including amenities. *Some amenities are available at the front desk In the North Building, the convenience store on the 1st floor is directly connected to the elevator. You can access it using your room key. -Sightseeing / Shopping- Shijo-Kawaramachi is about a 15-minute walk away. Thanks to the great location, various public transportation options are also close by for sightseeing and shopping. On the last day I checked out around 8:00 a.m. I headed to Kyoto Station from the Kawaramachi-dori bus stop about a 5-minute walk away; there were fewer passengers than expected, and I arrived in about 15 minutes. -Finally- I was disappointed that I couldn’t try your well-reviewed breakfast because I don’t eat much. It was during the Gion Festival (Yoiyama) period before the main parade—hot every day… no, very hot! (lol) But staying at such a wonderful Hotel made my time in Kyoto truly excellent. I look forward to visiting again next time. Thank you very much.

It was my first stay in a while. Aside from handling check-in and check-out yourself and picking up only the amenities you need at the front desk, everything was unchanged, and I had a comfortable stay. The Room was set to a pleasant temperature when I arrived, which made me forget Kyoto’s heat. This time, my purpose was to visit the Gojo Wakamiya Pottery Festival. It took less than five minutes on foot from the Hotel to Keihan Sanjo Station, so I could go by train and take my time looking around at the venue. It is also close to Pontocho and Kiyamachi, so finding places to eat was never a problem. Breakfast is buffet-style, and in addition to Western options, there were obanzai dishes, pork shabu-shabu, spice curry, and other satisfying choices. Despite being in such a convenient location, it’s also quiet and relaxing, so I would like to stay here again.

Everything was wonderful. I checked in feeling completely exhausted that day, but the staff kindly offered to show me where the restaurant was if I didn’t mind, and since they could seat me right away, I ended up having dinner there. As I was dining alone, I asked the staff about portion sizes while ordering, and it turned into a truly delicious and happy meal. The Room was just the right size, so I could relax and recover. The next morning I took it easy as well. I got some cake and bread to take out and went to a friend’s Hotel where they were staying to eat them, and they were so good that I regretted not having breakfast here. I’m sure I’ll stay here again next time!

This time, we stayed in a Room with a separate bathroom, and it was very relaxing to take a bath. The bed was very large and comfortable. The duvet was also very large, though it may have been a bit too big for sleeping. The location was great, the cleaning was thorough, and we had a comfortable stay. For breakfast, we enjoyed the pre-portioned side dishes and the white stew. We would love to stay again next year.

This was my second stay. It was a Multiple Night Stay, and I really appreciated that complimentary water was included along with the replacement towels. Many places don’t offer that these days. The building was clean and comfortable to stay in. However, the hallway felt a bit too dark.

I stayed here because I wanted to visit Kibune and Kurama, as well as Kuzuha where my relatives live, and it was convenient for accessing the Keihan Railway. The Room was spacious enough for three people to relax comfortably. Both the toilet and bathroom were large and easy to use. We ate dinner and breakfast outside the Hotel, but it was truly convenient because all the places we wanted to go were nearby. All the staff were kind and very helpful. Thank you very much.

I always stay here when visiting Kyoto. The staff are always quick and smooth in their service. This time, they gave me a Room with a view from the window, which made it bright and I was very happy!

Located in an excellent spot at Kawaramachi Takoyakushi, it is an ideal base for sightseeing in Kyoto. The Room is spacious, and the layout with a vanity sink in the center is very convenient. With a sliding door separating the bedroom and utility area, we were able to sleep very quietly.

I celebrated the New Year here after a long time. This was my third stay. As always, the room and bath were truly comfortable, and I enjoyed the delicious drinks and alcohol in the lounge. With fewer rooms, it’s quiet and perfect for a relaxing stay. Being part of the Tokyu Stay group, it naturally has a washing machine and microwave, but this accommodation even has a freezer, which is a great bonus! Highly recommended.

The location was right in the heart of the Kawaramachi downtown area. It was close to the station, with many restaurants nearby, which was great. The Room and bathroom were very clean, so I felt comfortable staying there. The wall-mounted TV felt a bit small. It’s a Hotel with great value for money, and I recommend it.

The travel schedule was postponed, leading to a need to rebook the hotel. By chance, we chose this place and it turned into a wonderful experience. The service was attentive, and every staff member greeted us with a smile throughout our stay. We also booked dinner here—what a surprise! The restaurant's reviews were so good that it felt like hitting the jackpot. Before dining, we were taken to the kitchen for an introduction to the day's ingredients. During meals, each group has their own private space without worrying about being disturbed by others (this applies to both breakfast and dinner). Unfortunately, due to language barriers (poor English and no Japanese), we missed out on opportunities for an even better experience. As expected with older buildings, soundproofing could be improved; activities upstairs caused some noise from above. The bathroom had only partial bamboo screens around the bath area—it felt slightly exposed as gaps allowed views of neighboring spaces... Overall though, it was an amazing experience! Next time, I’d love to try staying in a second-floor room if possible!

I was truly impressed by your attentive hospitality in every detail. In particular, the meals were all creative and full of seasonal flavors, and I enjoyed every dish. I did find the bath water a bit hot, but otherwise I was completely satisfied. Thank you very much.

As my father is elderly, I wanted to spend some relaxing time nearby while he is still well, so we came from Osaka and stayed for one night. Everything besides the Kuroge Wagyu shabu-shabu dinner was also delicious, but there was so much food that I’m sorry we couldn’t finish it. The breakfast was a very Kyoto-style Japanese meal, and it made me feel quietly happy. The Room was spacious and full of charm, and the staff were polite and welcoming. My father was truly delighted, so I feel I was able to show him proper appreciation. There were also plenty of amenities to choose from freely, which was great as well. At check-out, you kindly saw us off until we were out of sight, which really moved us. Thank you very much! It was still a little early for cherry blossoms this time, so we would love to stay again around cherry blossom season next year.

We stayed as a family on New Year's Eve to escape the year-end hustle and bustle. The small hall was crowded with guests, but the front desk staff and attendants welcomed us warmly with smiles. The room was not very spacious but was clean and comfortable, equipped with coffee and mineral water. The silver shiny walls, full-length mirror closet doors, and compact yet renovated bathroom showed thoughtful design throughout. Although the public bath wasn't very large, I had perfect timing to enjoy it all to myself, which made me very satisfied. However, it might feel cramped during busy hours. The women's colorful yukata were stylishly designed, while the alphabet-printed yukata for general use featured vibrant colors and patterns that added a cheerful touch—especially contrasting against men's typically darker attire—enhancing the travel experience's charm. Meals were served in our room; dinner was flavorful and delicious. On New Year's morning, we enjoyed traditional osechi breakfast along with otoso (spiced sake), poured in order starting from younger guests as per custom—a refreshing moment to start anew. It was my first time trying Kyoto-style white miso soup with round mochi for ozoni; it marked a wonderful beginning to Reiwa Year 8. The location is excellent—just a short walk from Nishiki Market—with nearby sweets shops and cafes scattered around. Unfortunately, many stores seemed closed on New Year's Day itself. Surprisingly enough though, we couldn't hear any temple bells ringing at midnight but managed to sleep soundly right after welcoming the new year. While Kyoto has many hotels available, staying at a ryokan truly offers an exceptional experience!

I was able to have a wonderful time again. Thank you very much. I stayed at AO in my favorite hotel this time. I thought blue might feel cold, but perhaps due to the color scheme and texture (such as underfoot), it was a stay that even changed the impression of blue while being calm. It's a space that somehow makes you feel like you've "come home." The bath is deep, allowing you to warm up thoroughly and relax in a wonderful space. The amenities are pleasant, and I really like the scent of the bath herbs and soap. If I may be greedy, I would be happy if I could have herbal tea in the room. However, there is a pot, and you can enjoy three-year bancha and coffee. It is mentioned from the beginning that there is no toothbrush, but I thought it would be nice to have body lotion. I generally like Babaghuri's amenities, but the shampoo & rinse just don't suit my hair (I end up using it because it smells good), and that's the only disappointment. Breakfast is one of the pleasures of this property that cannot be missed. It's full of vegetables, looks beautiful, and energizes you from the morning. The soup changes with the season, and it's really gentle and delicious. Having delicious soup in the morning feels luxurious, and I always think so when I come here. It comes in a stove pot, so you can reheat it in the room. The variety of vegetables makes for a really enjoyable meal from the morning. I chose bread, and there were three types, each delicious, and although it seemed like a lot, I wanted to have seconds. I am thinking of staying again next time. I was also very pleased with the various thoughtful gestures this time. Thank you very much!!
