Because my husband is from Nagaoka, we come from Tokyo to Niigata every year during the Obon season. Our usual routine is to go swimming at Kakudahama Beach first, then stay at Hotel Asuka. The made-to-order dinner buffet is delicious, and the food comes out quickly. The dishes you can pick up anytime are also great, so I always end up eating too much. Both the long-time staff and the newer team members are truly pleasant and welcoming—it makes me feel at home. This is my favorite hotel that I look forward to visiting every year. We’ll be back again next year, so thank you in advance.

While waiting for the Shuttle Service to the station after check-out, they kindly offered cold drinks and showed thoughtful care in many ways, providing truly attentive hospitality. The meals were delicious, and the tableware was stylish—both the taste and presentation were very satisfying.

The bath and in-room dining were both excellent. This is an Accommodation we would definitely like to visit again.

We were blessed with wonderful weather and arrived early, but we were shown to our room right away. After strolling around Kitamuki Kannon Hall, Anraku-ji Temple, and Joraku-ji Temple, we came back and headed straight for the baths. We used the 7th-floor bath in the evening and again in the morning; since it alternates between men and women morning/evening, both times felt completely private. We especially enjoyed the spectacular views from the open-air bath and the sauna. The water is silky-smooth and leaves your skin feeling wonderfully soft. Before checking out, we also enjoyed the private indoor bath in our room. We had a chance to see both rooms; although their layouts were completely different, both were spacious, with comfortable beds and excellent in-room baths. And then there was dinner—the highlight of our stay. This year’s matsutake harvest was abundant, and we were served an incredible variety and quantity of matsutake dishes unlike anything we’ve ever had before. Everything was outstandingly delicious—we were truly moved. The couple we invited was also amazed far beyond their expectations. When we asked our attendant, she told us that even in poor harvest years, thanks to 300 years of tradition and long-standing relationships, they can still secure plenty of matsutake even when they don’t appear on the market. The proprietress—often mentioned in reviews—was just as wonderful as everyone says. It all made sense: you can feel how her thoughtfulness naturally carries through to every member of staff. Since retiring, we travel almost every month, but this is the first ryokan that has impressed us so deeply. We would love to return at this time next year with the same group to enjoy matsutake again. Thank you very much.

This was a wonderful place to stay. First, when I mentioned foods I couldn’t eat at the time of booking, I was surprised to receive an email right away with alternative suggestions. Everyone was very kind. Every meal was truly delicious and beautifully presented, and I was completely satisfied with everything, including the tableware and presentation. The baths were excellent. Including the day-use hot springs in Shibu Onsen, the water quality was wonderful, and I enjoyed soaking many times until it felt like it seeped into my skin. The carbonated spring in the indoor bath was also great. The property was spotless, and both the lounge and baths were always neat and well organized whenever I went. The pillow height and firmness were just right, and I slept very well. Above all, the staff were truly outstanding. They immediately noticed that I had caught a cold and felt chilly, and kindly brought me a lap blanket. They also remembered what we briefly talked about during dinner and even took the time to look things up and share helpful information with me. Thank you very much. From welcome to farewell, I sincerely appreciate everyone’s heartfelt hospitality. I highly recommend this accommodation.

Every season, I’m moved by the nature, the cuisine, and the hospitality. This time, even the rainy scenery felt mystical. Even a single dish reflects its history and background and its connection to the region; together with the staff’s gentle warmth and the atmosphere, it feels like something unique to this place—carefully preserved over a long time. This was a return visit. I stayed here to visit my family’s grave and Koryu Shrine. The warm hospitality from the proprietress and all the staff was truly pleasant. The meals were delicious for both the eyes and the palate. Breakfast included a partially buffet-style setup, and everything was always kept beautifully arranged. The baths and changing area were also consistently clean and well maintained, which impressed me with how attentive the staff are. This is an Accommodation that makes you want to stay again!

A ryokan next to Suwa Taisha Shimosha Akimiya, where you can relax in gentle hot springs and spend time wrapped in tranquility. From the room we stayed in this time, through the window we could see the roofs of buildings within Akimiya’s grounds and the surrounding grove. The season’s coldest autumn weather this year made the feeling of cleansing both body and mind even stronger. We didn’t have time to walk around on this trip, but it takes less than a minute to reach Akimiya’s parking lot. Its charm, different from modern accommodation facilities, reminded us of the pride of being Japanese. Thank you very much.

Although we arrived in rainy weather, we were warmly welcomed by many staff members, making for a wonderful start that almost felt more than we deserved. The building, designated as a Tangible Cultural Property, has a rich sense of history, yet it is meticulously maintained throughout, allowing us to relax in complete comfort. In addition to the pleasantly warm and soothing Onsen, the cuisine was truly outstanding. On departure, they even took a complimentary commemorative photo and later sent it to our home—such a thoughtful gesture that made this an unforgettable memory. Everything was exceptional, including the hospitality, and this is an Accommodation we would love to stay at again. Thank you very much.

About three months ago, we stayed here for the first time, and both our dog and we were completely satisfied in every way. This time, our two children—who couldn’t join us last time—came along as well, and it became a wonderful memory. We would love to stay again.

I stayed here once and loved it so much that I booked again right away. This was my second stay, and it was just as satisfying as I expected. The meals—both the inn’s signature dish (beef grilled on a hot stone) and seasonal items—were excellent in both quality and portion size. The hot spring has a faint sulfur scent that really highlights how good the water is. Our family’s favorite is the beer service time in the lobby. Having a refreshing drink before dinner after a bath is the best. It’s a much-appreciated service in these times of rising prices. I hope you’ll keep offering it for my next stay!

We stay here mainly for Arashi no Yu, and every time it’s one moving experience after another—thank you again for this visit. The table tennis & darts Room was a hidden gem, and the kids were thrilled! If I had one request, it would be to have some board games the kids can enjoy (even something like UNO) in the table tennis Room or at the front desk—then children wouldn’t get bored even during a Multiple Night Stay. In any case, thank you as always for another wonderful experience.

This was my first time visiting Togura Kamiyamada Onsen. The proprietress kindly showed me to my room, and I was already in relaxation mode after being served delicious pickles and tea. The hot spring is 100% free-flowing from the source, available 24 hours a day. The water was wonderfully smooth with a gentle sulfur scent, and I enjoyed it many times—after arrival, at night, and again in the morning. And then the meal I had been looking forward to! Every dish was carefully prepared and truly delicious. I also tried the seasonal strawberry liqueur; it wasn’t overly sweet, and the fresh strawberry aroma was delightful. The proprietress served me with a warm smile, and our small conversations were so enjoyable that even though I was traveling solo, I had a wonderful time dining. I also appreciated being able to relax over my meal in the newly renovated private dining room. This was my first visit to Togura Kamiyamada Onsen, and both the baths and the cuisine were outstanding—I’d love to return in another season. Thank you very much.

Surrounded by magnificent nature, with breathtaking sunsets and a sky full of stars, I was able to forget everyday life and feel truly refreshed. The hot spring and sauna were outstanding, and the meals were delicious—I was completely satisfied. If you dislike insects, please be aware, but it didn’t bother me at all; I had an exceptional stay.

We visited as a three-generation family trip, with the oldest at 77 and the youngest at 3. This inn is truly filled with hospitality, and they were so kind to our daughter as well. (Even though they were busy serving meals, whenever our daughter shouted “It’s delicious!”, everyone always responded—so sweet!) The food was also prepared with great care using quality ingredients, and it was unbelievably delicious. I don’t think I’ll be able to eat river fish anywhere else after having it here. My whole family kept saying how amazing the meals were, and choosing this place was absolutely the right decision! On a personal note, we’re deeply grateful for all the warm hospitality shown to our entire family in so many ways. Since it was our first visit we packed in lots of activities, but next time we’d love to come back just to relax and take things slowly.

I stayed in a newly renovated Room, and it was wonderful. The in-room perks were excellent. In particular, the all-you-can-eat gelato was an incredibly generous service—perfect after the Onsen—and I enjoyed trying many different flavors. Everything was delicious. The pre-dinner aperitif can be chosen from the menu, and the lounge coffee machine is truly high-quality, so I used it many times. Both the quality and quantity of the meals were very satisfying, and what impressed me most was the staff. There were many young team members, but everyone’s hospitality was outstanding. Some staff members spent a long time chatting with elderly guests because they were approached for conversation, yet they responded without showing any displeasure at all—I was genuinely impressed. You can also enjoy two different types of Onsen water, and I think this Accommodation offers excellent value for money. I will definitely return again. Thank you very much for taking such great care of me.

At dusk after arriving at the inn, I noticed one of the rear tires on our rental car was flat. There was no spare tire, and when I called the rental car office, they told me to drive slowly to a service station or similar place and have it repaired. When I asked at the front desk, the owner kindly listened and even arranged a repair through an acquaintance. As a result, it was fixed safely before checkout—and at a friendly price. Car trouble that suddenly strikes in an unfamiliar place can be stressful. For a moment I thought our sightseeing plans for the next day were ruined, but thanks to their help we were able to enjoy our trip as planned. I can’t thank the owner enough. Thank you so much. About the inn: it’s an older building, but it’s very clean and well maintained. There are lovely fresh flowers arranged here and there in the rooms and hallways. We used one of the private open-air baths—the larger corner bath—in the morning. The view was wonderful, and I highly recommend bathing in the morning! Most noteworthy is how excellent the meals were. The Shinshu Premium Beef for dinner had sweet marbling and was absolutely delicious—I strongly recommend choosing the “Luxury Meal Plan” so you can enjoy it! The sashimi included Shinshu salmon and char (iwana). Both dinner and breakfast featured many delicious local specialties. Thank you for such wonderful meals. We chose this inn somewhat casually for sightseeing in Obuse, but it became a truly great memory. Thank you very much.

Everything was exceptional from pick-up to send-off. I stayed here after a weekend trek, and upon arrival we were welcomed with a welcome drink, along with a clear and courteous explanation of the Accommodation—brief yet thorough at all the key points. As for dinner, to put it in gourmet terms: “a blissful dining experience woven from artfully presented plates and a refined atmosphere.” In my own words: the ambiance was wonderful, everything was delicious, and I couldn’t wait to see what would come next! The private bath we used after the meal was also perfect—an open-air bath of just the right size, stocked with popular in-bath amenities that were gentle on the skin—so I could truly relax. The futon was very comfortable, and breakfast was healthy and vegetable-focused with delicious rice; the after-meal coffee in the lounge was excellent as well. Thank you for seeing us off so pleasantly at the end. We’ll be back! It really was an amazing weekend.

The food was delicious and wonderfully unique! Clear soup with junsai and clams (in addition to a hearty miso soup!), plus plenty of seasonal fruit (Shine Muscat grapes, red and green-fleshed melon), Matsumoto watermelon, and more. Everything felt more thoughtfully prepared than what I’ve had elsewhere, and I enjoyed it very much. Thank you for the wonderful meal!

Everything was excellent. The hostess’s hospitality was especially wonderful. The staff also kindly introduced us to local spots and were very helpful, so we were able to fully enjoy Nagano. The Onsen was very relaxing, and the meals were truly delicate, beautifully presented, and delicious throughout. There was no excessive service like at a luxury Ryokan, which made it very comfortable. We would love to stay again when we visit Matsumoto.
