I visited Hiiragiya again. I had made a Reservation for a Room with a bath and toilet, but I was first shown to a Room without them. It was still very comfortable, but when I asked to Check Reservation, I was told there had been a mistake, and you kindly arranged for me to stay in the Room associated with author Yasunari Kawabata. Thank you for your thoughtful care. Once again, I enjoyed Kyoto’s summer flavors—chilled edamame soup topped with sea urchin, pike conger sashimi, grilled tilefish with crispy scales, jellied soft-shelled turtle broth, Kamo eggplant with sesame sauce, and more—then fully enjoyed Yoiyama and fell asleep thinking of Mr. Kawabata before continuing on to the Gion Festival. Kyoto is changing little by little, but this is the beauty of Japan—and the spirit of Japanese hospitality—that I hope will be passed on to future generations.

Despite being located in a lively part of town, the property felt like a different world—wrapped in serene tranquility. The cool breeze drifting through the reed doors and the pleasantly textured ajiro weaving, which I experienced for the first time, deeply moved me as part of Japan’s beautiful “summer setting.” Listening to the gentle sound of the shishi-odoshi echoing through the impeccably kept garden and spending time in the dignified tea room were truly luxurious moments that soothed my soul. The food and drinks were also exceptional—everything felt wonderfully satisfying to all five senses. Thank you sincerely for your thoughtful touches throughout. It became a wonderful summer memory, and my first visit back to Kyoto in a while was made even more special.

The female staff member at reception during check-in impressed me with her proactive, exemplary hospitality. I stay at Hotels for a change of pace, and this Hotel made me feel at ease in every way—facilities, staff, and overall comfort—with no small discomforts. It was part of the Plan, but I gladly took them up on it and stayed for 24 hours. At reception, they said, “Please let us know if there is anything you need,” showing a positive attitude. At the restaurant as well: “Please relax and enjoy your stay.” They even asked, “Did you sleep well?” You don’t often hear that elsewhere. It had been a while since I stayed at a major international chain Hotel, and their training truly showed. The Room design is also charming. I can see why it’s popular with guests from both Japan and abroad.

Its kaleidoscopic beauty resonates deeply in the heart. Exquisitely prepared with sincere care, the cuisine is truly delicious. A beautiful garden that reflects the seasons—so captivating you could gaze at it forever. Elegant summer décor that lets you fully experience Kyoto’s traditional culture. Hanging scrolls, ikebana, and a beautifully arranged Room down to every detail. The head chef, attendants, the young proprietress, and the proprietress herself offer warm, attentive hospitality with genuine grace. Thinking that all of this beauty is an expression of love for each guest fills me with freshness and gratitude. At Kikkawa, you can feel the refined spirit of Kyoto—an appreciation for making everyday life beautiful and joyful. It began as an Accommodation I hoped to stay at at least once in my life; before I knew it, this was my 11th visit. A superb culinary Ryokan I wholeheartedly recommend to anyone who truly loves Kyoto.

For the past several years, it has become my tradition to stay here alone for one night after finishing work in Kyoto every six months. After check-in, I head straight to the Premium Lounge to relax with a drink and enjoy some well-deserved “me time.” This time, the snacks to go with the drinks felt a little upgraded too... The breakfast buffet is another highlight. The many Kyoto-style obanzai dishes, neatly served in small plates, soothe me the next morning... It also feels like there were even more options than last time—what a treat! I take my time and enjoy a kind of luxury I can’t usually have in everyday life as a homemaker. Now, back to work—so I can look forward to this happiness again in six months!

This was my third stay, and each time I visit, I’m reminded of how wonderful this Ryokan is. The staff’s warm smiles and thoughtful hospitality, the comfortable Room, the soothing Onsen, the breathtaking views from the guest rooms and rooftop terrace, and the beautifully crafted dishes served at the dining venue “Higashiyama”—everything made for a truly satisfying stay. The location is also very convenient. On the day of my stay, I was also able to enjoy seeing a Gion Festival mikoshi procession, which made it an unexpectedly lucky experience. I would love to visit again.

This was my 8th stay at the FAUCHON Hotel Kyoto—my absolute favorite in Kyoto, which I love so much. I was visiting Kyoto for a friend’s grand opening celebration, and at the perfect time I received a birthday coupon from the FAUCHON spa. So I decided, “Let’s treat myself to a special birthday FAUCHON hotel stay!” I planned it with excitement—booking the towel cake I’d seen on Instagram and in Reviews on IKYU.com for the first time, along with the spa’s pink bubble bath that had made me unbelievably happy before. It was my third time staying in an East Higashiyama-view FAUCHON Suite, but the sofa and table layout had changed. The moment I entered the room, I couldn’t help cheering at how adorable the towel cake was—I took tons of photos and enjoyed it to the fullest! The handwritten “Happy Birthday” message on my key card, and the illustrated birthday card placed with the towel cake, became precious keepsakes that I brought home as treasured memories. The cute hand-drawn illustrations on both the full-length mirror and bathroom mirror also made me feel endlessly happy every time I saw them. I’m truly glad I chose to spend my birthday hotel stay in a FAUCHON Suite! Since my Plan included lounge access, I spaced it out from my spa appointment and enjoyed an early dinner and drinks. Along with my favorite champagne and umeshu, after enjoying the Shigaraki-ware bathtub in my room once, I topped up fluids and sugar with cola and sweets before heading to the spa. Even for the pink bubble bath at the spa—which I had been looking forward to so much—they prepared another towel cake with a heart. After having my tired feet massaged, I returned straight to my bed in the room and instantly fell asleep—I was blissfully happy beyond words. The next morning, I woke naturally before 4:00 a.m., watched dawn during magic hour, wrote myself a birthday card using one of the room postcards (and mailed it at a postbox at the end of my trip), enjoyed tea and coffee, and savored that Higashiyama view from by-the-window table. The steamed breakfast served in bamboo steamers at restaurant breakfast, as well as a birthday message cake after checkout—and even iced tea brewed by Grandy Master—everything was delicious. It was simply amazing. After buying souvenirs, even tag message attached to tote bag when they stored luggage were adorable too. Until leaving The FAUCHON Hotel Kyoto at last , this is best lingering feeling remained; It was best-ever FAUCHON hotel stay of mine! Thank you so much for such an overwhelmingly happiness-filled time!

I stayed at this Hotel for the first time after wanting to for a long time. I stayed in a Room with a terrace, and it was spacious enough to relax comfortably on the terrace or sofa. The Room was also kept very clean, which I was happy with. Breakfast was delicious as well. I would like to stay again.

The Room, Onsen, and service were all excellent, and we had a very comfortable stay. Just one thing: the welcome drink was served on the rooftop terrace, which was a wonderful service. However, it was simply too hot during summer, so we would be even happier if it could also be offered in an indoor space.

I think this Accommodation is perfect for a stay during the Gion Festival. I also enjoyed both the Italian and Japanese cuisine. Watching a maiko dance during my stay became a wonderful memory—thank you very much. It seems that, in exchange for opening the lounge, the drinks in the refrigerator have been limited to mineral water only. However, because the lounge has short opening hours, it was not very convenient. I usually stay at Hiramatsu-level Accommodations, but this was the first time I had to buy sparkling mineral water at a convenience store during my stay. That said, it is still a great Accommodation, and I would be happy to stay again.

We often stay at Hotel Monterey properties in Osaka, and Kyoto is another outstanding location after Okinawa. With a large public bath as well, this is definitely an excellent Hotel!

I was able to fully enjoy the Gion Festival. Last year I stayed at a Hotel near Kyoto Station, and getting around by subway was a hassle, so this time I chose this place near the Yamaboko-cho area. I had stayed here back when it was Mitsui Garden, so I already knew my way around and had a comfortable, stress-free stay. All of the Hotel staff were pleasant and greeted me with smiles. Just one thing: after the first night, housekeeping may have been missed—there was only a bag of towels hanging on the doorknob, and the trash bins in the Room were left as they were. Also, the loungewear and bath mat weren’t in the bag, so I went to pick them up myself. The next day, I proactively put out the trash bins and used towels into the hallway before going out. I wasn’t sure how the housekeeping system worked, but it was within what we could handle flexibly on our side, so it wasn’t an issue. For the Gion Festival, this is my only choice—I felt like it’s a Hotel I’d like to return to again next year. Thank you very much.

The location and the Room were truly wonderful. The staff’s greetings and service were very attentive, and they interacted with us at just the right distance, so we had a comfortable two-day stay. While many Hotels are cutting back on amenities, I was happy that everything here is high quality and provided in the Room so guests can relax and enjoy their time. This time we had lunch at the Chinese restaurant Hisuien, and both the food and atmosphere were excellent. It’s a place I’d love to visit again. Breakfast at Amber Court was also delicious. I will definitely come back to stay again. Thank you very much.

My birthday is July 17, so for decades I’ve made it a tradition to go see the Gion Festival around my birthday. I’m used to the festival, but… I had always stayed at a well-known large Hotel with parking. However, it wasn’t very convenient for getting around, and this year I was traveling with my elderly sister, so I decided to try The Gate Hotel Kyoto in the float district. And wow—my old ideas about Hotels were completely overturned. The layout and flow inside the building were excellent, and even though check-in and check-out were pleasantly efficient, the staff were wonderful. The lounge and restaurant were also very comfortable. What I appreciated most was the late-night snack: an ochazuke (bubuzuke) buffet. We were exhausted from walking around the festival and couldn’t really eat much, but being able to have a light meal at the Hotel was such a relief. The ochazuke was easy to eat, and the broth was delicious. I’ve stayed at many Hotels, but this truly let me experience how things are done today. It’s an Accommodation that makes me want to stay there even when it’s not Gion Festival season. Thank you again—I’ll be back.

I stayed for 2 nights with No Meals Included. I had a very comfortable stay. I was happy that the women’s large public bath had a ReFa shower head, and the Room amenities were well stocked, which was very helpful. There were also laundry facilities in several areas, making them easy to use.

I stayed for four days starting July 13. -Front Desk Staff- First of all, my sincere thanks to everyone. Due to personal circumstances, I consulted in advance about arriving earlier than planned. You kindly offered thoughtful suggestions, and at check-in the information had been accurately shared and handled perfectly. You also saw me off pleasantly at check-out. -Location / Surroundings- An excellent location in the heart of the city—Teramachi-dori, Shinkyogoku Shopping Street, Rokkaku-dori, and Sanjo-dori. Very convenient for dining and all kinds of shopping. -Hotel- Although it is a very busy area with many visitors (including international travelers), once you step into the Hotel everything changes—there is a quiet, relaxing atmosphere. The toilet and bath are completely separate. The bath is spacious and comfortable. The room is fully equipped with everything needed, including amenities. *Some amenities are available at the front desk In the North Building, the convenience store on the 1st floor is directly connected to the elevator. You can access it using your room key. -Sightseeing / Shopping- Shijo-Kawaramachi is about a 15-minute walk away. Thanks to the great location, various public transportation options are also close by for sightseeing and shopping. On the last day I checked out around 8:00 a.m. I headed to Kyoto Station from the Kawaramachi-dori bus stop about a 5-minute walk away; there were fewer passengers than expected, and I arrived in about 15 minutes. -Finally- I was disappointed that I couldn’t try your well-reviewed breakfast because I don’t eat much. It was during the Gion Festival (Yoiyama) period before the main parade—hot every day… no, very hot! (lol) But staying at such a wonderful Hotel made my time in Kyoto truly excellent. I look forward to visiting again next time. Thank you very much.

Since there were three adults, we really appreciated having a triple room option. The large public bath was clean and relaxing even late at night, and the complimentary treats like ice pops after bathing were a nice touch. Breakfast was luxurious and delicious: in addition to the buffet, you could choose a main dish, and even after three nights we never got tired of it (lol). We also had an incident where our child left an iPhone in a taxi, but the staff supported us without showing any annoyance. When the iPhone was found, they were genuinely happy with us, which meant a lot. It was a Hotel we were completely satisfied with as a base for sightseeing in Kyoto. Thank you very much.

We stayed from July 12 to 14. The staff were very welcoming, and my wife was also satisfied. We were especially impressed that our Room faced Shinmachi Street, allowing us to watch the first pulling of the Hoka-boko float from the Room. The festival music on the 12th was also wonderful and really enhanced the atmosphere of the Gion Festival. We would like to stay in the same Room again before the Gion Festival next time, and we appreciate your help when we do.

Kyoto offers many different ways to enjoy your stay depending on the area you choose and the character of each Hotel. This was my first time staying at this Hotel, and it is in a very convenient location just a short distance from Shijo-Karasuma, which can be considered the center of downtown Kyoto. It’s only a few minutes’ walk from the station whether you arrive by Hankyu Railway or the subway. Nearby are places like Goodman Roaster Kyoto and Unzen, as well as many wonderful cafes and coffee shops that have opened over the past few years—just visiting them is enjoyable in itself. Ogaki Shoten (Main Store), with its large and unique selection of magazines and books, is also close by, and Daimaru is within walking distance. There are also grocery supermarkets such as Fresco and Moritaya right nearby, making this a great area for spending time as if you live in Kyoto. Since the Hotel opened in 2019, both the Facilities and Room interiors still feel new and were very comfortable. The Room I stayed in wasn’t particularly large, but the layout was well designed so it didn’t feel cramped. It had a comfortable bed and a fairly large sofa, and the bathroom had a spacious bathtub, which made my stay very relaxing. I stayed on the 4th floor this time, and the view from the window wasn’t great due to nearby apartment buildings; however, that’s common for Hotels in central Kyoto and can’t really be helped. With that in mind, I felt it might even be fine to choose a Room on a lower floor. Breakfast didn’t have an especially wide variety of items, but everything gave me the impression of being properly prepared. I especially liked the large-bean natto. The staff at both reception and breakfast were very polite yet friendly. Overall, I found this to be a very satisfying Hotel. I was impressed that they maintain this level of service at this price point. In Kyoto I usually make hotels around City Hall or west of the Imperial Palace my regular choices, but I would like to add this Hotel to that list as well. Thank you again—I look forward to staying here again.

We made a Reservation because the bathroom has a washing area. The bathroom was so spacious that we could stretch out and relax in the tub. When we entered the Room, both the air conditioner and air purifier were already running, making our stay very comfortable. Thank you very much.
