The Room was a 6-tatami Japanese-style type; it does feel a bit dated, but it was thoroughly cleaned. The Onsen has no open-air bath, but the water quality is excellent. Even though I have dry skin, I didn’t feel itchy at night without applying anything. Meals are served in private dining rooms for both dinner and breakfast, so you can eat at a relaxed pace. The carp dishes were the main focus and were delicious. I had the sashimi with vinegared miso; it had no odor at all, was pleasantly firm, and very tasty. Breakfast rice was also excellent, and both the quality and quantity were more than satisfying. The dessert was great as well. The inn has been family-run since the proprietress’s grandfather’s generation, and the hospitality is outstanding—you can spend your time in a quiet setting.

Although it was a self-service stay in a traditional hot-spring therapy style, the host/manager provided very courteous service and clear explanations, so I felt at ease throughout my stay. In the Room, there was what seemed to be a protective mat for placing luggage (likely to prevent dirt from suitcase wheels), and an extension cord was thoughtfully placed by the bedside—small touches that really impressed me. The yukata selection included many sizes, so each of us could choose one that fit perfectly. I booked a no-meals Plan, but I had no dinner plans, and I was told nearby restaurants could deliver to the Room. Since it was hot outside and I didn’t feel like going out to eat, I really appreciated that (haha). The bath was nicely hot and felt great. I think it helped boost my immunity. Because of the timing, I didn’t run into other guests, so I could bathe comfortably without worrying about anything. Despite the reasonable rate, I truly felt their wholehearted hospitality and was very satisfied. I’d love to stay again next time.

This was our first stay as a couple. The building shows its age, but it has been beautifully renovated and kept very clean. On the day of our stay, there was one indoor bath, one open-air bath, and two private baths. After dinner we used a private bath, and the next morning we enjoyed the open-air bath. The water temperature seems to be adjusted by adding cold water; for me it felt a bit hot at first but quickly became just right and very relaxing. The food was excellent—everything was delicious, including salt-grilled yamame trout and wild herb chips—and after returning home I had gained 1 kg. We were worried about ferry service due to the typhoon, but there were no issues. At night, looking up at the sky felt so close, and Orion shone beautifully—it was truly moving. We would love to visit again.

This was our second stay, and this time we enjoyed a three-night Multiple Night Stay. The staff were welcoming and attentive, and the amenities and bath facilities were excellent. The Room was spacious and spotless, with beautiful interior design. Thanks to the thoughtful care shown to guests, we had a truly comfortable trip—thank you. Whenever we visit Azumino, this is the Accommodation we choose.

We stayed here for our first family trip. Tendo was a wonderful place, and thanks to the Room and baths at Sakaeya Hotel, we had a very enjoyable trip. Thank you very much.

From the very first welcome, to the softness of the bath water, to how delicious and generous the meals were—everything was wonderful. The portions may have been a bit too much; I’m sorry I couldn’t finish everything and ended up leaving some. The atmosphere was quiet and relaxing, which was great. There is also a matchmaking shrine in the mountain behind the property, and it was refreshing to visit in the morning. I would definitely like to come again.

My check-in was significantly delayed due to a long wait for a taxi at the airport, but I was warmly welcomed. The Onsen and the service were both excellent. Thank you very much.

After my wife was discharged from the hospital, she successfully passed two follow-up checkups, and we finally planned our first trip in a year. While searching for an exceptional stay as a surprise gift, we found this Accommodation. In a completely private setting, we were able to enjoy a blissful escape from everyday life. The Room filled with bright light through floor-to-ceiling glass windows, the vast grassland stretching out before us, the free-flowing Onsen and pool fed directly from the source, and the soothing sounds of nature—just what we could see and hear was enough to heal us. And yet, the chef’s warm personality reflected in every dish, along with stories full of love for Hokkaido, made it truly unforgettable. Using local ingredients along with freshly picked herbs and vegetables harvested right on the property, the unpretentious course allowed us to fully savor Hokkaido. From appetizers created right in front of us to a beautifully cooked main grilled over firewood rather than charcoal, every once-in-a-lifetime dish for that day alone moved us again and again—right through dessert. The wines thoughtfully recommended at just the right moments were also excellent. Small gestures—like turning our leftover corn rice into onigiri for a late-night snack—were deeply touching. The smooth, slightly thick Moor Onsen water left our skin silky soft, and I found myself soaking again and again after dinner, in the middle of the night, and at dawn (laughs). The steam rising into the night air under a sky full of stars was so calming I wished time would stop. Breakfast in the crisp morning air was also an array of homemade delights—we enjoyed every last bit of what this Accommodation has to offer. Spending time in an entirely private space where you can have endless views and the chef’s cuisine all to yourself—without anyone disturbing you—is truly one of a kind. Thanks to you all, it became the best possible surprise trip to celebrate my wife’s discharge. To the chef, manager/director (shihainin), and everyone on staff who helped make our stay so special—thank you very much.

The meals were absolutely delicious! This is an accommodation I would love to visit again.

We chose this historic Ryokan because of its highly praised Onsen. In particular, the private bath "Shotoku no Yu" is a historically significant bathing area, and experiencing it was one of our main purposes for staying here. We had no complaints about the Facility, and the staff's hospitality was excellent. The food was delicious, allowing us to enjoy a pleasant and relaxing time. We would definitely like to stay here again in the future.

It was quiet and very comfortable. Above all, the Onsen was excellent, and my body stayed warm for a while afterward. Since it is only available until 10:30 PM, I wish it had been open a little later.

As it was our first time camping/glamping, I think it was well suited for beginners. I won’t go into details as I don’t want to negatively affect the Facility, but when my child got burned, you took great care of us. Without showing any displeasure, you responded with such kindness in so many ways, and we are truly grateful. It was a little disappointing that it became pitch-dark at night with almost no streetlights and felt scary, and that there was no bathtub for the morning Onsen. Other than that, we had an amazing time: delicious food until we were completely full, very clean toilets and wash areas, activities like a campfire and roasting marshmallows, and the outdoor playground equipment. The Room was also lovely and comfortable. Every staff member was wonderful and made us feel warmly welcomed. Thank you very much.

The Facility and the Room felt a bit old, but everything was thoroughly cleaned and very tidy, so we were able to relax comfortably. The bath was also kept clean, and the Onsen felt absolutely wonderful. The meals were mainly mountain vegetables, but they were very delicious. This time we had kiritanpo hot pot, but according to the Reviews, game dishes seem to be popular, so next time I’d like to try them. The doburoku was also great. I’d like to stay at this Accommodation again if I have the chance.

This was my fifth stay. Despite the high price, it was the worst so far. What was good: The Onsen hopping was as good as always. What was bad: At dinner, I ordered a draft beer, but it took a long time to arrive. When I rang the bell to call staff, the female attendant said, “Was it not served yet?” in an extremely unfriendly manner. Also, although I requested the same Room as last time, I was given one where the sink and toilet were in the same space. There were also steep steps inside, which was difficult for elderly guests. There were no power outlets near the bed, which was inconvenient. The TV couldn’t play YouTube (even though I have an account), which was very disappointing. It felt like an ordinary Room with only a massage chair. I will think twice about staying again next time.

A deer figurine welcomes you as you step into the entrance. Next to the noren curtain at the men’s bath is a nostalgic vending machine with small shampoo & conditioner bottles, razors, and more. The retro lighting above the sink in the Room adds to the charm. It was a clean, calming Accommodation that retains the atmosphere of a classic Showa-era Hotel in Hokkaido. This time, we stayed with our dog. At the dining area where you can spend time together with your dog, we enjoyed wild mountain vegetables and a rare simmered oshorokoma (white-spotted char). The fresh venison was also very delicious. A Hotel we’d love to visit again!

The service was attentive and excellent from check-in to dining. Detailed explanations were provided throughout the accommodation, offering a sense of history everywhere. The quality of the hot spring water was exceptional and rare to find elsewhere. I would love to visit again in a different season.

I revisited this accommodation early because I had such a great experience last month. Although the Awazu Kaiseki did not include tempura, the delicious appetizers and eight kinds of fresh sashimi made the sake taste even better. By the time I finished the pork shabu-shabu and chawanmushi, I was already full, but the seasoned rice was so delicious that I ended up overeating. For breakfast, they served "Hyakumangoku" brand rice, which is often found in ryokan in Ishikawa Prefecture. However, their cooking method was exceptional, making it more delicious than any other ryokan I've stayed at before. While abalone, nodoguro fish, and Noto beef are available as additional orders, even without them, their delicately flavored dishes were more than satisfying. The bathwater quality was gentle on my sensitive skin and allowed me to soak for long periods without feeling overheated. The therapeutic waterfall shower relieved pain in my shoulders, neck, and back when applied to those areas—I even thought about saving money to come here for a week-long hot spring retreat someday! The room had been recently renovated; it was impeccably clean with a large LCD TV for added comfort. However, since we arrived early perhaps due to timing issues—the air conditioning wasn't turned on upon arrival during wintertime—it felt cold initially; preheating would have been appreciated during colder months like these! Lastly but importantly: homemade pudding by Okami (the hostess) tasted amazing too—overall providing excellent value exceeding expectations from this accommodation!

The staff were very friendly, and there was a lounge where we could relax and enjoy tea at our leisure. The food was delicious, with just the right portions, and we thoroughly enjoyed the desserts as well.

This time we came to Yugawara to see fireflies. It was truly magical and moving. Although this Accommodation is old, the bathroom and water facilities in the Room have been nicely renovated, and there are four private Onsen baths, so you can relax and enjoy them at your own pace. The meals can be served in your Room and were very delicious. We chose the smaller course, but it was more than enough for us seniors. However, perhaps because the building is old, we were quite bothered by noises such as footsteps at night and woke up several times. Next time, we would like to stay in a Room with a private bath. Thank you very much for taking care of us.

This was my second stay, and it was relaxing again. I have stayed at other accommodations in Zao Onsen several times, but this accommodation is highly recommended in every aspect—Onsen, meals, and price. During my previous stay, the elevator directly connected to the open-air bath was out of order, which was inconvenient. This time it had been repaired, making access from the room to the open-air bath smooth—I ended up using it five times. Both dinner and breakfast were served as set meals, and we were very satisfied with the quality and variety. We stayed as a family of three and felt refreshed in every way. We will definitely return.
