We stayed here as a couple during the Obon holidays. Even though it was the hottest time of midsummer, Tenkawa Village was wonderfully cool—a top summer retreat in Kansai where we could stay comfortable without using the Room air conditioner and without breaking a sweat. We had long admired the charm of Dorogawa Onsen and had wanted to stay there at least once, and choosing Hanaya Tokubei was absolutely the right decision. The whole town has a lovely atmosphere, but Tokubei stands out for its especially distinctive and tasteful building. Because there are few guest Rooms with private indoor baths in the area, we stayed in “Higashi no Tenku” with an indoor bath. The view is mostly of the courtyard, so if you are used to resort-style Onsen facilities it may not exceed expectations. Still, considering this is traditionally an Accommodation used by ascetics, we felt it was a true luxury and enjoyed it. The meals were delicious Japanese cuisine featuring plenty of local ingredients, with thoughtful touches throughout that kept our Multiple Night Stay from ever feeling repetitive. We were completely full but couldn’t bear to leave anything behind—and finished every last bite. Spending time on the veranda at dusk with a beer in hand while watching people pass by was simply wonderful. After sunset, strolling around the area in yukata is also great fun. Wherever you walk, the lantern lights feel magical, and Tokubei lends out portable lanterns as well. It was like stepping back into a period drama. There were also foreign staff members, and they were genuinely kind and attentive—we truly appreciated it. This is an Accommodation we would love to visit again. Highly recommended if you are sightseeing in Dorogawa Onsen.

On my way back from a business trip to Tokyo, I planned a visit to Nikko Toshogu Shrine, which I had long wanted to see. I stayed one night at an Accommodation in Kinugawa Onsen. I chose it after searching with conditions such as having an in-Room Onsen bath and being reasonably priced. The lobby was well maintained, and the hallways were very clean as well. Our Room had an Onsen bath and two separate rooms, so my wife went to the large public bath while I enjoyed the in-Room bath. The meals were very delicious, and the portions were just right—slightly on the generous side. It was a quiet Accommodation where I could relax in the Onsen, which was wonderful. Many of the staff seemed to be from overseas, but everyone was polite and courteous. One thing that concerned me was that when I opened the window by the in-Room bath, there were quite a few spider webs. Also, insects gathered on the window at night so we couldn’t open it; I thought that if there had been a screen door or similar, we could have opened it. If I have another chance to visit nearby, I would like to stay again.

Since the full renovation, every facility has been spotless. I was satisfied with everything, but I was especially surprised at how spacious all four private baths were—and they were impeccably clean. The water was excellent, with no unpleasant chlorine smell overpowering the sulfur scent. The Nordic-style sauna was also very relaxing. The meals were delicious and just the right amount. This is a Ryokan I would definitely like to visit again.

I visited with my husband for a belated wedding anniversary. The welcome at the entrance by so many staff members was amazing—I was truly surprised. The grand lobby was wonderful, filled with the sound of a pipe organ and an indescribable atmosphere, and the classical furnishings were beautiful as well. We stayed in Building No. 8 in a Japanese-style room with beds. It was incredibly spacious, with a stunning view and the soothing sound of the river flowing below. There was also a TV in the bedroom. The vanity area was large, and even the private bath had Onsen water—pure luxury. The rooftop garden bath was beyond amazing, and all of the other baths were excellent too. Watching trains go by while soaking, seeing birds of prey spread their wings across the sky, and taking in the mountain range—it all felt mystical. I wanted to stay forever... Dinner was served in a semi-private room (almost completely private—and very spacious), and it was an outstanding kaiseki meal with incredible attention to detail worthy of a traditional restaurant. At the end, we even received an anniversary gift from the proprietress—it meant so much to us, and we are truly grateful. Breakfast was also delicious—especially the dashimaki tamago; I became a big fan. Each dish was beautifully crafted and tasted wonderful as well. We will definitely return—this became a truly special memory for us. Thank you very much. P.S. 1: The Asaya manju were unbelievably delicious—I made Reservations for four boxes, and everyone loved them. P.S. 2: The lounge was also fantastic—stylish interior design with wonderful craftsmanship; the sweets were delicious, and they even prepared matcha for us. The manju served with it were Asaya manju as well—an Accommodation that showed heartfelt care in every detail. I would like to order Asaya manju again.

I was deeply impressed by the heartfelt hospitality of everyone at Kajikaso. During my stay, I lost track of time and enjoyed a truly fulfilling experience. The kaiseki dinner was exceptional—each dish was carefully prepared, and I savored it with all five senses. I’d love to have it again. The Onsen was also wonderful; the water felt silky and moisturizing like a beauty serum, leaving my skin smooth. Since the bathing areas rotate by time, the scenery changes completely, which was great fun—I soaked in the Onsen four times during my stay and felt completely refreshed. Conversations with everyone at the Ryokan were delightful, and my mother was very satisfied as well. (Thank you)

The entire property—including the Rooms and Onsen—was clean and stylish. The food was delicious, and it was a place where we could truly relax. The lobby also has a great view, making it perfect for unwinding. The Onsen in particular was clean and refreshing, with a view of the Kinugawa River flowing in front of it. They also prepared a kids’ meal that children will enjoy. Adults will be satisfied as well—the portions are generous, the flavors are excellent, and you’ll leave feeling full. We would definitely like to stay again.

My daughter and I stayed here together. We had a luggage issue before arriving at the Hotel and ended up arriving an hour late for dinner, but you kindly accommodated us, for which we are truly grateful. For the meal, although it was already past the time when it would normally have been served as a boxed meal, you were considerate enough to serve us as planned, and I was nearly moved to tears. Every dish was not only beautifully presented but also thoughtfully prepared with seasonal ingredients and flavors that guests of any age can enjoy. The seasoning and portions were just right, and everything was truly delicious. We chose the plan with breakfast included, and it was very lavish—yet never heavy—and before we knew it, we had finished everything. The rice was especially delicious; my daughter and I even said afterward that we should have asked for seconds. The Onsen bath was very clean, and it felt so wonderful that we forgot all about the day’s troubles. We also used the open-air bath; since it was a full moon that night, we enjoyed a blissful time soaking while looking at the moon peeking through the trees. The Room was very spacious, with a Japanese-style room plus a separate bedroom with beds. It’s a layout where you can relax in comfort in the Japanese-style room and then sleep soundly in bed afterward—something guests of any age can enjoy. Above all else, every member of staff provided outstanding service. When we arrived at Kinugawa Onsen Station there were hardly any taxis available, and we were worried about whether we could reach the Hotel on foot along dark roads. You picked us up by car from the station, which helped us tremendously. You also drove us to the station again the next day—thank you so much. Thanks to you, we made our scheduled train on time. Your kindness in every respect truly moved us. There are many Ryokan out there and we have stayed at several before, but this is a Hotel where we were satisfied with everything: staff service, cuisine, baths, and Rooms. This time it was only one night because there were other places we wanted to visit as well; however, if we travel to the Nikko area again next time, we will definitely choose this Hotel. And since we had your wonderful food rather hurriedly this time due to our late arrival (laugh), next time I’d like to arrive on schedule and savor each dish more slowly. We sincerely appreciate all your kindness. Thank you very much. We look forward to staying with you again in the future.

It’s very convenient to reach from the train station with a single bus ride. There is a local products shop nearby, but no convenience store, so it’s best to buy anything you may need in advance. The Accommodation staff were truly kind—checking on us during meals and assisting us carefully at check-out as well. The Room on the 3rd floor does not have a toilet and uses shared facilities, which means stepping out of the Room and changing into different slippers each time—so I felt it might have been better to make a Reservation for a 4th-floor Room with a private toilet. The Room was spotless, and even the washbasin bowl was polished perfectly. The building itself shows its age, but it’s clearly maintained with great care. Outside of cleaning hours, we could use the large public bath, the open-air bath, and two private baths as much as we liked—it was fantastic. The hot spring source is very hot and continuously flowing, so some of the private baths were too hot without adding water, but it was extremely relaxing; my skin also felt wonderfully moisturized afterward. It was also lovely to hear the sounds of the river and mountains from the Room. Dinner featured many river fish and mountain vegetable dishes, making for an excellent experience—nothing like meals that only look luxurious. Breakfast was also great: healthy food that gave me energy for the day. I recommend buying souvenirs at the nearby local products shop.

We checked in after doing some shopping at a nearby AEON. The Accommodation had everything we needed for cooking, including a pot and even a small hot plate, so it was easy to prepare meals (though you’ll need to bring your own seasonings). Complimentary drinks were also stocked in the refrigerator. Since it was our child’s birthday, we projected a birthday video with the projector and celebrated—it was a huge hit. The third-floor bath was spacious, and the Onsen water made it incredibly relaxing. The first-floor sauna was low-temperature, so my husband found it a bit mild, but I enjoyed taking my time and felt very satisfied. There was also a table on the balcony where we could relax, so we had breakfast there. Overall, everything was very clean, and having a washing machine was really helpful—everything about our stay was great. It’s an Accommodation we’d love to visit again.

Since my femur fracture, we’ve been staying in a Room with an open-air bath, and we’re completely satisfied with the meals, the Room, and the bath. The staff are wonderful as well, so we keep coming back. It’s a bit far away, but it’s our couple’s motto: “For birthdays, we come here.”

I made a Reservation because I was drawn to the Accommodation’s title, and it was absolutely the right choice! This is a simple, historic Accommodation, yet it feels spotless throughout. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with warm smiles from the staff, and we were very satisfied with the quality of the Onsen. The “Taste of Local Bounty” dining menu was especially enjoyable—above all, the experience of biting into a whole river fish from head to tail felt truly unique and unlike anything else.

Although it was the rainy season and we were concerned about the weather, we had good weather and enjoyed a comfortable one-night stay thanks to the excellent hospitality throughout the property. The meals were also delicious, with well-crafted creative dishes. We felt this is a Ryokan we would like to visit again in a different season.

We stayed at Kinugawa Onsen “Kizuna” from July 31 to August 2, 2026 (2 nights/3 days). We checked in with two adults, one child, and two Chihuahuas. I thought I had made a Reservation for a Room without an open-air bath, but due to what seemed to be a communication issue, we were instead shown to a Room with an open-air bath (a lucky surprise). Having an open-air bath in the Room meant we could enjoy the Onsen anytime, day or night, and our whole family had a truly happy time. For every meal (breakfast and dinner), we were able to dine in a private room (rather than the usual shared dining area). The menu changed each time, so we looked forward to every meal and headed there excitedly. Each dish was refined and absolutely delicious. With drinks as well, we felt completely satisfied after every meal. By chance, the Nikko Fireworks Festival was held on Saturday, August 8, and we were able to enjoy spectacular fireworks from our Room as well (another lucky moment). Above all else, what made our stay so comfortable was the attentive service from the manager and staff members—and their genuine hospitality in accommodating guests’ requests. That level of professionalism seemed to fill the entire Ryokan, allowing guests to relax completely and enjoy an exceptional experience. For three days, we fully enjoyed an extraordinary getaway both physically and mentally. It may sound childish, but it was such a wonderful Ryokan that I didn’t want to leave—I wanted to stay forever. Everyone in our family kept saying “Let’s come again,” so we will definitely return. My heartfelt thanks go out to everyone who took care of us at “Kizuna.” Thank you very much for everything.

This is a wonderful Accommodation that blends beautifully into Kakunodate’s townscape. The staff were very kind and helped us in many situations throughout our stay. Thanks to them, we had a memorable and enjoyable trip. We would love to visit again. Thank you very much.

I was pleasantly surprised by how excellent the all-inclusive offering was. The dining was also very satisfying—not a typical buffet, but with options like robatayaki. The Onsen is clear and colorless, but it leaves your skin feeling silky smooth. The only disappointment was that the loungewear pants were far too large. They can be adjusted with a drawstring, but I wish there had been a bit more variety in sizes.

The meals, the Room’s open-air bath, and the service were all excellent. We were able to fully enjoy a special getaway and relax at our own pace. We would love to visit again!

The hot spring water is simply wonderful. I soaked in the Onsen at night and again in the morning, and was amazed at how smooth my skin felt. The Accommodation staff were kind and supportive, offering helpful advice and speaking gently to our children, which made us feel truly welcomed. Dinner hot pot came with more meat than we could finish. The menu featured many local specialties, which adults enjoyed, though some dishes seemed a bit challenging for children. The Facility has a sense of history, but it is fully air-conditioned, so we stayed comfortably cool.
