With no real knowledge of Tsuchiyu Onsen—I'd heard the name but that was about it—we visited as a group of three with my elderly parents, relying on the great Reviews. We parked and entered into the 5th-floor lobby. The beauty of the parquet woodwork and the lush green gorge took our breath away. We checked in while enjoying welcome drinks on the sofa. Our Room on the 3rd floor was just as modern as in the photos and came with a cypress open-air bath. Before dinner, we used the large public bath on the 1st floor. The water was amazing!! A faint sulfur scent and silky water that seemed to cling to your skin. My parents were impressed too, saying it was the best Onsen water they’d ever experienced. Apparently even the shower water is from the Onsen—I’d never seen that before, so I was surprised. We went to the public bath three times during our one-night stay, and only ran into another guest once (just one person). It felt almost private, which made it even better. Dinner was served in a private room on the 4th floor. We chose Japanese cuisine. The explanations were very careful and easy to understand, and everything—from taste to presentation (including the tableware)—was beautiful; you could really feel the chef’s attention to detail. The handwritten menu also had a wonderful charm. Breakfast was also Japanese cuisine, and we were just as satisfied as we were at dinner. This trip also celebrated my mother’s birthday and mine, so we booked an Anniversary Plan. After dinner they brought out a cake, but we were too full to eat it, so they delivered it to our Room instead. After relaxing in the Onsen for a bit, we still felt full—but said “Since it’s here anyway, let’s finish it tonight,” made some coffee...and ended up eating it all! It really was delicious!! We were also happy with the parquet coaster gift—thank you very much. To all of your staff: thank you for taking such great care of us. We truly appreciate all your kindness. We will definitely come again while my parents are still healthy!

ห้องพักสไตล์ญี่ปุ่นที่เรียบง่ายและธรรมชาติที่อุดมสมบูรณ์ ผ่อนคลายที่น้ำพุร้อนจากแหล่งธรรมชาติ

I made a Reservation for two nights, but it was so comfortable that I ended up staying three nights. From check-in, all the staff made a great impression—they were friendly and easy to talk to, so I felt relaxed right away rather than feeling like it was our first meeting. Since pets are welcome, I got to meet adorable dogs every day, and I also appreciated how kindly the staff interacted with them. They even took photos of visiting dogs, placed them in a mini album, and kept it in the lobby for guests to browse freely. The shop staff also seemed to love dogs—giving them treats and chatting with them created such a warm atmosphere. The staff were kind both to guests and to their dogs. Meals during a Multiple Night Stay can start to feel repetitive, but on both the second and third nights we received one special dish each as part of the Multiple Night Stay service—something not available at the buffet—which made me very happy. With the buffet, I treated it like “If I miss something today, I’ll try it tomorrow,” and managed to try everything over dinner (laugh). Breakfast included bread, yogurt, milk, and smoothies, so I mainly enjoyed bread-based options. At dinner there was unlimited soft drinks; at breakfast there were milk, smoothies, lemon water, and coffee. Alcohol at dinner cost extra, and there was also an all-you-can-drink Plan. My Room was a spacious Japanese-Western style room with two beds. Since I mentioned in advance that my knees aren’t great, they kindly arranged a Room on the 3rd floor near the elevator—I really appreciated that. The location of the Room was surrounded by trees and stayed quite dim even during the day (so we kept the lights on), but there is a free shuttle bus for hot-spring hopping to Mori no Soran iwa nearby. From when the shuttle started running until before dinner each day، I enjoyed their open-air baths، relaxed in their free massage chairs، or lay down on comfortable cushions in their bright spacious lobby. It seems you can use their indoor pool for free as well، but it sounded lively with children، so as an adult traveling alone، I chose instead to take my time enjoying my favorite open-air baths. I bought after-bath pudding and panna cotta at the shop, returned here for dinner, relaxed until bedtime, then went back into the baths again. This Accommodation has more varieties of baths than Mori no Soran iwa؛ if you walk further inside from within大浴場 along its corridor، you’ll find two open-air baths plus scented baths、 standing baths، and more—there’s plenty to enjoy. I’d love to visit again.

Although I often stay in Kirishima Onsen, this was my first time in Hitoyoshi Onsen, so I chose a relatively new Accommodation. It turned out to be the perfect choice, and on the way home my companion and I kept saying, “We’re glad we picked this place.” First of all, the Facility itself is new and very well cleaned, so check-in felt comfortable and pleasant. Next, the baths: both the indoor bath and open-air bath are stone-built with deep tubs; the water was pleasantly hot and gentle on the skin—truly a “beauty bath” quality—and I was very satisfied. Meals were served for both breakfast and dinner using local ingredients in thoughtful detail; everything was delicious in just the right portions. When visiting Kumamoto I had been hoping for basashi (horse sashimi), but it wasn’t included in this Plan; it was available to order separately, so I enjoyed it that way. What helped us most was assistance with making Reservations for lunch the next day and for activity facilities, as well as answering detailed questions. They kindly accommodated our requests—such as “I want to eat seasonal salt-grilled ayu” and “I’d like to try pottery on a wheel”—all with a smile. Thank you also for seeing us off even in light rain without opening an umbrella. The salt-grilled ayu at the restaurant you recommended was excellent, and we each made pottery pieces (a plate, a bowl, and a beer glass). After firing them in the kiln, they will be glazed in our requested colors that same day and then shipped to our home once finished—we’re looking forward to receiving them. I would love to visit again; however, there is one disappointing point: there is only one Room type available for stays of two or more people, so I would appreciate more options. Thank you very much for everything.

ห้องพักพร้อมออนเซ็นกลางแจ้งที่สามารถชมวิวทิวทัศน์อันงดงามของหุบเขาอิยะ

Warmly welcomed in the building next to a charming soba restaurant, I enjoyed Iya’s local culture and nature. Upon entering the Room, I immediately noticed the lush green view, the bath, and a massage chair. The bath was already filled so I could use it right away. They also explained how to use it and told me it takes 20 minutes to fill completely. I wanted to soak immediately, but since it was a season of strong sunlight, I waited until the sun slipped behind the mountains. The breeze was pleasant, and I relaxed in the Room. The next morning, I ran hot water for about 10 minutes and then kept it flowing as I bathed; the gentle sound of trickling water and the crisp air made it wonderfully quiet and atmospheric. The cuisine was refined local fare—perfected so that each dish tasted best at the moment you take your first bite. I enjoyed my meal slowly and peacefully in an irori (sunken hearth) dining Room. When I entered, salt-grilled river fish and “dekomawashi” were already skewered over the hearth, gently roasting. As I ate the first dishes while watching the irori right in front of me— “So this is how you place charcoal…” “The irori really warms you up…” “This is how far from the fire you set skewers…” —I found myself drifting into a world like old folk tales. It was such an enjoyable time. When they lifted the lid of the soba-rice porridge (zousui), its aroma rose beautifully, and its flavor on my palate was wonderful; I honestly thought, “I didn’t know zousui could be this delicious.” A bright, friendly staff member also adjusted one skewer’s angle midway while checking how it was cooking—and for that brief moment their gaze and hands looked like true craftsmanship. Both the dekomawashi and river fish were warm and perfectly plump. Every dish was timed impeccably; paired with sake, everything tasted excellent. Even though I felt completely full afterward, the soba at the end was so good that I thought, “I’m full—and yet it’s already gone.” By breakfast time the next morning my body felt refreshed and hungry again, so once more I truly enjoyed my meal. From check-in until seeing me off, I could feel their careful attention to timing in every detail. Thanks to that thoughtfulness, my stay was truly comfortable.
