The carefully prepared healthy cuisine, the clean and stylish Room, the luxurious amenities, and the bath where you can relax while listening to the gentle murmur of the river—everything was deeply satisfying and made for a truly wonderful stay. What left the strongest impression on me was the hospitality of all the staff. There were several international staff members as well, and seeing them serve guests earnestly in Japanese and make an effort to embrace Japanese culture was truly heartwarming. This is an Accommodation I would love to visit again. Thank you very much for such a wonderful time.

Because Typhoon No. 15 was approaching, I canceled once, but it looked like I could still make it, so I made a new Reservation. We got caught in a bit of rain, but the Accommodation had a wonderful atmosphere, the Onsen was amazing, the meals were delicious, and above all, the staff were so pleasant—I was completely satisfied. Soaking in the open-air bath while looking at mist-covered mountains, and enjoying complimentary coffee in the retro-style lobby while gazing at the greenery outside the window—those moments were truly soothing to end the trip. Since it’s deep in the mountains, visiting by private car is somewhat seasonal, but it’s an Accommodation I’d love to return to. Thank you very much.

Only 10 Rooms on a spacious property. The grove garden right in front of you is a private view (guests cannot enter), giving you the true feel of a vacation home. We were completely satisfied with everything—the Room, the semi-open-air bath in the Room, the open-air bath at the large public bath, and dinner featuring an array of premium ingredients considered luxurious in Japanese cuisine, as well as breakfast with just the right portion size. If we had to make one small request, it would be that the bath towels were a bit thicker.

We stayed here for a family trip during the Obon holidays. They kindly provided taxi pick-up and drop-off to Nagano Station, which was very helpful. The staff were attentive, and the facility was clean and pleasant, making our stay truly relaxing. The meals were also excellent. We would love to visit again in a different season. The building is showing its age, but it is carefully cleaned, and the furniture and furnishings are well maintained. The ikebana arrangements are beautifully displayed and are said to be rearranged each time by the staff. The chef is from Nemuro and sources fresh seafood from there. The vegetables and meat are locally sourced from within Hokkaido. Every time, both the presentation and the flavor are excellent, and we enjoy our meal with genuine admiration. We plan to visit again next year to celebrate our wedding anniversary.

We stayed here as a couple during the Obon holidays. Even though it was the hottest time of midsummer, Tenkawa Village was wonderfully cool—a top summer retreat in Kansai where we could stay comfortable without using the Room air conditioner and without breaking a sweat. We had long admired the charm of Dorogawa Onsen and had wanted to stay there at least once, and choosing Hanaya Tokubei was absolutely the right decision. The whole town has a lovely atmosphere, but Tokubei stands out for its especially distinctive and tasteful building. Because there are few guest Rooms with private indoor baths in the area, we stayed in “Higashi no Tenku” with an indoor bath. The view is mostly of the courtyard, so if you are used to resort-style Onsen facilities it may not exceed expectations. Still, considering this is traditionally an Accommodation used by ascetics, we felt it was a true luxury and enjoyed it. The meals were delicious Japanese cuisine featuring plenty of local ingredients, with thoughtful touches throughout that kept our Multiple Night Stay from ever feeling repetitive. We were completely full but couldn’t bear to leave anything behind—and finished every last bite. Spending time on the veranda at dusk with a beer in hand while watching people pass by was simply wonderful. After sunset, strolling around the area in yukata is also great fun. Wherever you walk, the lantern lights feel magical, and Tokubei lends out portable lanterns as well. It was like stepping back into a period drama. There were also foreign staff members, and they were genuinely kind and attentive—we truly appreciated it. This is an Accommodation we would love to visit again. Highly recommended if you are sightseeing in Dorogawa Onsen.

I stayed at this Accommodation to meet friends. From arriving in the lobby through check-in and check-out, the staff’s courteous and pleasant service was truly wonderful, and thanks to them I was able to spend my entire stay comfortably. For dinner, I had the “Tanchou” course. Enjoying a meal with wine while watching Sapporo’s beautiful evening sky shift into the night view was exceptional. After dinner, I finished the night at the “SKY J” bar. When I visit Sapporo again, I would definitely like to stay here.

The Room, bath, and all areas of the Accommodation were kept very clean. When we returned from going out, the staff stayed close by and even brought our key for us, which was a thoughtful touch. Breakfast starts at 7:00, but when we explained that eating then would make us miss our train, they prepared a breakfast we could eat in our Room at 6:30. It was extremely helpful. The canal-side view from the Room was wonderful, and the sunrise was truly beautiful. We would like to stay again.

I stayed here for a concert trip this time. Because of the concert end time and traffic, I didn’t arrive until 9:00 PM, and I ended up getting to dinner very late, but you welcomed me with a smile and I had a wonderful time. Breakfast was also delicious, and since I had some time before checkout, I was able to take a walk in Kenrokuen Garden across the street. The location is excellent, and above all, every staff member was smiling and seemed genuinely happy—I would definitely like to stay here again the next time I visit Kanazawa. Although this Accommodation is located along a major road, once you step onto the grounds you won’t notice it at all, and there is a lovely garden. A stroll is highly recommended. Various services, including the lounge, are thoughtfully arranged, and we really enjoyed our time inside the Accommodation. All staff were kind and pleasant; the meals were delicious; and not only the in-room open-air bath but also the large public bath was excellent. There were quite a few guests from Europe/Western countries and Asia as well, but everyone spent their time quietly. This Accommodation far exceeded our expectations.

Everyone was extremely kind and attentive. The Room was clean, and the Onsen temperature was just right, so we were very satisfied. There was a wide variety of dishes; in particular, the tempura made with mountain vegetables looked great and tasted wonderful, and the grilled sweetfish was plump and delicious. It is a quiet Onsen town, but we were able to relax and were very satisfied.

Everything—the views, the Room, the baths, the meals, and the hospitality—was outstanding. My whole family kept saying again and again that we had never stayed at such a wonderful Ryokan. First of all, the baths! The view of Otaru spread out below from the open-air bath was breathtaking. (We also really appreciated that the amenities were from a well-known cosmetics brand and that towels were always available.) Inside the Ryokan, there were furnishings that evoked the former prosperity of the Herring Mansion, making it an irresistible place for history lovers. Both dinner and breakfast were delicious, and I especially can’t forget the potato with butter sauce—a long-loved specialty of this Ryokan. It was such an incredible time that I almost didn’t want to recommend it to others. I definitely want to come back again next time.

My spouse and I stayed here in mid-May 2026. It’s a soothing Accommodation where you can truly relax without any fuss. All the staff were gentle and friendly. The resident “signboard” rabbit was adorable, and it also seems like a pet-friendly Accommodation. This time we chose a Plan with breakfast only, but the breakfast was so delicious that next time we’d like to stay on a Plan that includes dinner as well. One disappointing point this time was part of the baths. When I dipped my feet into the tub on the second floor—the one that looked whitish, like a carbonated bath—it was so hot that it startled me. In the open-air bath as well, the added hot water seemed to be set too high; when a lot of water came out periodically (?), it was too hot to enter unless we stirred it first. I wish I had asked whether the temperature adjustment for the added water just didn’t go well that day, or if the spring temperature changes daily. Still, overall there was hardly any odor, my skin felt smooth, and it was very pleasant water.

It was my first time staying in Zao Onsen. The meals and the Onsen were excellent. In particular, I really enjoyed relaxing on my own in the private family bath; with its high metasilicic acid content, it left my skin smooth and felt wonderful. The food suited my taste and was delicious. I’ll be back again, perhaps in autumn.

The staff service, the comfort of the Room, the high-quality meals, and the convenient location—not too far from the station with a convenience store nearby—always make for a fulfilling holiday. The elevator also shows the next floor it will stop at, offering a small but thoughtful touch.

The wash area has a retro feel, but it is clean, and the Japanese-style three-way mirror and small desk give it the character of a long-established Ryokan. In addition to floor chairs, there were also comfortable cushions, showing thoughtful attention to relaxing in a tatami Room. Since we chose a Room along the gorge, we spent time simply gazing at the rocks and river below or lounging on the tatami. The Onsen was of course wonderful, but above all, the meals were outstanding. The dashi broth was truly delicious, and with every bite I felt glad we came here. Every dish was carefully crafted, and I was impressed by combinations I had never tasted before. The staff’s hospitality was attentive as well, making our stay very comfortable.

As this is a historic, traditional Accommodation, there were a few aspects of the building that stood out, but the meals, Onsen, and location were excellent, and we were more than satisfied with our Multiple Night Stay. Many of the staff were from overseas, but everyone worked very hard and left a great impression. In particular, the gentleman who assisted us at the front desk spoke fluent Japanese and had a wonderful smile—good! We travel three to four times a year as a hobby, and this became a truly memorable trip. PS. After we left the Accommodation and started driving, you found something we had forgotten and kindly called my mobile phone—thank you so much for your help.

This was our third stay, and every year it exceeds our expectations. We checked in at 2:00 PM, and when we came out of the large public bath, it was raining. I had planned to go for a walk, but instead I was able to relax in the Room with a beer, which was great. The ReFa hair dryer in the Room was excellent as well. As for the food, the pumpkin fondue was outstanding—both the concept and the ingredients were wonderful. Every year there is some kind of surprising dish that delights us. I’ll work hard so we can come again next year!

This Hotel is very cozy and located in a quiet riverside area. It’s a short walk to the center of Jozankei, but it’s perfect for a post-meal stroll, and you can also enjoy the illuminated Toyohira River. The meals focus on quality over quantity; each dish made the most of its ingredients, and everything was delicious. The Onsen bathing area is on the smaller side, but since this Ryokan has only a few Rooms, it never felt crowded (weekday Monday stay during Obon week).

Because it is located a little away from Yubatake, we were able to spend a very quiet and relaxing time. The interior has a refined, design-forward atmosphere, yet since the building was originally a cottage and has been renovated, it also feels wonderfully cozy with the warmth and scent of wood. The guest-room bath with free-flowing Onsen water direct from the source was a bit hot at first, but once we got used to it, it felt amazing and allowed us to fully enjoy Kusatsu’s Onsen. After bathing, we felt warmed through to the core and our skin felt pleasantly moisturized. Even the amenities such as lotion were high quality, and we could sense attention to detail throughout. Both dinner and breakfast were truly outstanding, and each dish reflected great care in ingredient selection. The vegetables, shiitake mushrooms, and Joshu beef grilled over a wood fire had an especially fragrant savoriness that left a strong impression. The octopus rice at dinner and the white rice cooked in an earthenware pot at breakfast were also exceptional—perfect with grated yam and bonito flakes. It was a meal where you could really appreciate how delicious the rice itself is. We are not very knowledgeable about wine or sake, but there was an impressive selection, and the well-informed master recommended options tailored to our preferences—making this Accommodation particularly appealing for those who love drinks. Some past Reviews included harsh comments, but after staying ourselves, we could clearly see sincere efforts to improve; it felt like this Accommodation continues to evolve into something even better. Even understatedly put, it was an exceptional stay. We were completely satisfied with everything—the Facility offerings, Onsen baths, cuisine, and hospitality. It was such a wonderful Accommodation that we would absolutely want to stay again when visiting Kusatsu.
