We stayed here with our family of four during Golden Week.\nIt was a comfortable Accommodation that was very well cleaned, and the bath we were worried about was separated for men and women, so we could relax without worrying about the time.\nThe highlight, above all, was the incredibly luxurious boat platter and Boshu spiny lobster. The Boshu spiny lobster was still moving when it came out, and we heard cheers from other guests as well.\nAll of the May dolls displayed in the dining area were made by Tokyo Kyugetsu, and they were even made of pure silk. We enjoyed a luxurious time savoring delicious food while admiring these magnificent dolls, making it a wonderful memory.\nAt checkout, the proprietress said, “Please come again when abalone is in season,” so we plan to visit again.\nIt’s a great Accommodation and highly recommended.

This was my third stay. The bath, of course, and the meals are truly delicious—I’m completely satisfied every time. However, since it’s a cold mineral spring, I don’t have the courage to visit except during the warmer months. I hear mushroom dishes are served in autumn, so I’m thinking of taking the plunge and making a Reservation, but it’s such a popular Accommodation that it’s hard to secure one. The proprietress is even cuter than the cats—I hope she stays well and keeps this place going for a long time. I’ll be back.

I am a company owner and stay at accommodations in the Kanto area for business twice a month. Over the past 18 years, I have stayed at more than 300 accommodations. I started using this accommodation on November 17, 2025 (Reiwa 7). This is the fourth accommodation I've stayed at in Shirako Onsen, and for me, it was "the best." The quality of the onsen water and the atmosphere of the open-air bath were perfect for me. The meals were also outstanding—the variety of dishes was excellent, and I was deeply moved when they brought out a rice cooker so we could enjoy unlimited servings of freshly cooked rice. Their thoughtfulness truly touched my heart. I believe this is likely a family-run hotel; everyone was kind-hearted and gentle, which made my stay very comforting. However, aren't some reviews too harsh? To those who gave low ratings to this hotel—do you even understand their accommodation fee? Personally, I found this hotel to be excellent and will definitely stay here again. Thank you to all the staff for your hospitality!

Everything was perfect, beyond expectations. I was truly moved by the exceptional hospitality—it might be the first time I've experienced such flawless service. The appliances and items provided were clean and beautifully arranged, and the traditional crafts were deeply captivating. The open-air bath and stone sauna created a truly relaxing atmosphere. I also found it to be very cost-effective.

The Facility has a nostalgic Showa-era feel, and because multiple buildings have been combined, the elevator only goes up to the 3rd floor; the top (4th) floor is accessible by stairs. However, if you don’t mind that, it’s a very comfortable stay. Even the standard meals offer a wide variety of dishes and are truly delicious. The Onsen has a mineral quality I’ve never experienced before—so impressive it made me think, “So this is what therapeutic bathing is.” The indoor bath has five washing stations and feels too small for six people at once, but as long as you choose your time wisely, it wasn’t an issue. This is one Hotel I’d love for you to experience at least once. It’s hard to describe, but I can confidently recommend staying here—ideally for a Multiple Night Stay.

Excellent value for money! The meals were especially good.

There is no bathtub—only a shower—but I was very satisfied with the clean Facility, healthy meals, and the open, nature-rich surroundings. There is a day-use Onsen nearby.

Honestly, I thought the price was very reasonable considering the in-room open-air bath. All the Ryokan staff were incredibly kind and attentive. I was surprised to see so many young attendants, but they were very professional and clearly well trained. The meals featured carefully prepared mountain cuisine rather than seafood, and you could really feel the attention to detail. The in-room open-air bath had a wonderful atmosphere, and we had an amazing time. Because each building is connected by covered corridors, you can stroll through the garden even when it rains.

We stayed as a family of four. The bath was very relaxing, and both breakfast and dinner were delicious. All the staff were friendly, and we had a very pleasant stay.

We stayed as a couple. Many Accommodations today try to satisfy guests by having everything fully equipped, but this place isn’t about that. Instead, the landlady who handles everything on her own offers such thoughtful care, warm hospitality, and attentive service that it more than makes up for it—an Accommodation that left us truly satisfied. The food was delicious, and we enjoyed local sake as well. They prepared an irori hearth and even set up a brazier outside so we could enjoy stargazing, and they also provided hot-water bottles—unique pleasures different from the usual stay. An Accommodation that satisfies the eyes, ears, stomach, and heart; we’d love to visit again.

The meals—especially the BBQ dinner—were delicious. The Maeda beef steak was outstanding. Since we stayed at the Super Premium Site, it was convenient that we could drive directly onto the site. The spacious grounds also made our dogs very happy; seeing them run around excitedly was truly satisfying. It felt like a luxurious private dog run experience. The beds inside the tent were also extremely comfortable. The large public bath in the clubhouse was fairly standard, but I appreciated the free massage chair in the changing room. One downside was that although there is an air cooler and a fan inside the tent, they didn’t work effectively at all. (It was comfortable from sunset until early morning, but during summer daytime it felt like a greenhouse—unbearable!) I recommend staying outside the tent during the day. It was also very inconvenient that there is no toilet on-site; if you see this as part of embracing outdoor inconveniences (no toilet, no refrigerator, no air conditioning, etc.), then it might be acceptable—but if you advertise it as a Super Premium Site, I honestly wish basic comfort (at least a toilet and heating/cooling) were provided. (Especially given that it wasn’t cheap.) There is a small cabin on the site with air conditioning and it was wonderfully cool, but it’s so small and empty that I did wonder whether it makes sense to pay such a high rate only to spend most of your time in that cabin… After check-in there isn’t really anywhere else cool within the site, so you end up taking refuge in this cabin, staying in your car with A/C on, or going to the clubhouse… Since the tent itself is so lovely, it would have been ideal if we could have spent most of our time comfortably inside it. I also strongly felt how convenient it would be if there were a toilet inside that air-conditioned cabin. Since you have to walk to the clubhouse restroom each time, you need to keep reminding yourself to go before it becomes urgent. (Waiting until your limit might be tough!) Unfortunately we couldn’t see the starry sky at night because of bad weather—it was disappointing—but I’d love to come back for another try next time, aiming for a more comfortable season! All staff members were very kind and made our stay pleasant. Thank you very much.

The meals were delicious. The morning coffee was also delicious.

I visited here as a child, and the exterior hasn’t changed. It’s an old building, but the inside is very well cleaned and everything was spotless—especially the wooden hallways, which were shiny everywhere. The Onsen baths—the semi-open-air cave-style bath and the family bath with plenty of yunohana—were very hot, and I personally couldn’t get in without adding cold water. The large public bath was just slightly on the hot side. The meals were reasonably tasty—a typical mountain Ryokan menu with a bit more wild vegetables than usual. The grilled fish with soba miso in the photo was especially delicious. Because of the antenna, TV reception wasn’t good, so I’d really like this to be fixed. I heard this Ryokan has been operating for over 400 years, and I hope it continues for many years to come.

We visited as a family of nine. The moment we entered the Room, everyone got super excited! The grandkids were having a blast (lol). It had a calm, kura-style atmosphere, the garden was beautifully maintained, and the open-air bath felt great. This kura-style Accommodation was amazing! We’ll definitely stay again when we’re in the area. Thank you for your kind hospitality and for taking such good care of us. The only minor issue was that the open-air bath uses recirculated water, and we noticed a slight chlorine smell.

We stayed for one night with breakfast and dinner included. The staff were kind, and the meals were delicious—we were very satisfied! Our child was thrilled and said, “I want to stay here again!”

The more you travel, the more your 기준 for choosing an Accommodation shifts from “luxury” to “essential comfort.” Tucked away in a mountain gorge at 1,000 meters above sea level in Kokonoe, Oita, Tabinoyado Yamatsubaki feels like the final paradise discerning travelers eventually find. Its greatest value lies in its intentionally limited number of rooms. Far removed from the bustle of a large Ryokan, it offers complete privacy—paired with perfectly judged hospitality that is attentive without ever feeling intrusive. From the moment you arrive, you can feel everyday life quietly fade away. The open-air bath is simply unforgettable. In crisp, unobstructed air, soaking in superb free-flowing Onsen while watching the starry sky shift moment by moment becomes more than a bath—it’s an indulgent sense of oneness with nature. For an Accommodation with such a private atmosphere, the generous space throughout is exceptional and especially appealing to wellness-minded travelers. As I was visiting after business and didn’t want to inconvenience the owner couple, I booked a stay with breakfast only—but each dish at breakfast told its own story. Every bite was spot-on and far beyond expectations. I regretted not ordering dinner so much that I could only think afterward: “Why didn’t I?” I also learned that at nearby Komatsu Jigoku—reopened for sightseeing after restoration completed in summer 2025—you can make Onsen eggs yourself. They kindly sold me eggs upon request and graciously accommodated my last-minute favor. I visited in early summer, but reaching Kokonoe’s mountains when they are covered in snow will likely require some preparation. Even so, that challenge only adds to the thrill of heading into a hidden retreat. Nature, renowned hot springs, and outstanding cuisine—Yamatsubaki brings them together in near-perfect balance. It isn’t just somewhere to stay; it’s a destination in itself—a truly one-of-a-kind Accommodation worth traveling for.

The lovely couple who returned to their hometown and newly built this Accommodation as their home runs it, and we were able to relax very comfortably. Having previously operated a restaurant in Tokyo, they served wonderful dishes using local ingredients, and we were very satisfied with their carefully curated wine selection. It was such a wonderful Accommodation that I’d love to see featured on “Jinsei no Rakuen.”

We planned to visit Kamikochi the next day and looked for Accommodation in Matsumoto City, but gave up because it coincided with the Suwa Lake fireworks festival. We found this Accommodation closer to Kamikochi; it was a little off our route, but my wife—who is very particular about Facilities and cleanliness—praised it highly. Our friends traveling with us were satisfied as well. The only disappointment was that the bath felt a bit small when five women used it at the same time, perhaps due to the Accommodation’s capacity. Breakfast was delicious, and we enjoyed a very calm overnight stay. We would like to thank everyone at the Accommodation.
