I visited for the first time in three years. It was a cold day, so I was quickly guided to the bath and warmed up. The meal, which I had been looking forward to, was served one dish at a time with explanations, making it an enjoyable experience and leaving me completely satisfied. I would love to visit again if I have the chance. Thank you very much!

The more you travel, the more your 기준 for choosing an Accommodation shifts from “luxury” to “essential comfort.” Tucked away in a mountain gorge at 1,000 meters above sea level in Kokonoe, Oita, Tabinoyado Yamatsubaki feels like the final paradise discerning travelers eventually find. Its greatest value lies in its intentionally limited number of rooms. Far removed from the bustle of a large Ryokan, it offers complete privacy—paired with perfectly judged hospitality that is attentive without ever feeling intrusive. From the moment you arrive, you can feel everyday life quietly fade away. The open-air bath is simply unforgettable. In crisp, unobstructed air, soaking in superb free-flowing Onsen while watching the starry sky shift moment by moment becomes more than a bath—it’s an indulgent sense of oneness with nature. For an Accommodation with such a private atmosphere, the generous space throughout is exceptional and especially appealing to wellness-minded travelers. As I was visiting after business and didn’t want to inconvenience the owner couple, I booked a stay with breakfast only—but each dish at breakfast told its own story. Every bite was spot-on and far beyond expectations. I regretted not ordering dinner so much that I could only think afterward: “Why didn’t I?” I also learned that at nearby Komatsu Jigoku—reopened for sightseeing after restoration completed in summer 2025—you can make Onsen eggs yourself. They kindly sold me eggs upon request and graciously accommodated my last-minute favor. I visited in early summer, but reaching Kokonoe’s mountains when they are covered in snow will likely require some preparation. Even so, that challenge only adds to the thrill of heading into a hidden retreat. Nature, renowned hot springs, and outstanding cuisine—Yamatsubaki brings them together in near-perfect balance. It isn’t just somewhere to stay; it’s a destination in itself—a truly one-of-a-kind Accommodation worth traveling for.

Both the meals and the Onsen were excellent. During our one-night, two-day stay, we were able to relax and unwind. The carefully prepared meals were delicious, and the portions were just right—we finished everything without leaving any. The Onsen was available 24 hours a day, and the gentle water left our skin feeling smooth. It was an Accommodation we would love to visit again. The only reason I rated the Facility 4 out of 5 was that there weren’t enough power outlets in the Room, so we had to take turns charging our phones.

Based on past Reviews, it looked great, so I decided to book. It’s been a few years since I last stayed at a pension. It was my first time in Himekidaira, and there seemed to be quite a lot of pensions (with a few closed here and there). There are quite a few stairs from the parking lot to the entrance, so it might be a little tough if you have heavy luggage. The Room we stayed in was a deluxe twin with an en-suite bath and toilet. From the photos I thought there wouldn’t be a washlet toilet seat, but it was included, which was nice. The Room was spacious, and since it was also a corner room, the view surrounded by trees felt very relaxing. The interior design is tasteful and everything is clean. There are two private baths; both are the same size, and we were able to unwind in the soft water of the artificial Onsen. The dinner dining area had even more wonderful decor. Each table has fabric partitions, giving it a semi-private feel. It also helped that each person can choose an all-you-can-drink option for beverages. Just as the Reviews said, every dish was delicious, with more volume than expected. For breakfast you can choose an egg dish, and the bread is thick-cut toast. Several drinks and yogurt are self-serve. In short, we were simply impressed by how stylish and spotless everything throughout the property was. The owner couple were kind as well—it’s easy to see why they have so many repeat guests. Thank you very much for taking such good care of us. It’s not somewhere we can visit casually due to the distance, but we’d love to return when traveling in Shinshu again.

The dining area had a wonderful atmosphere, and every dish was delicious. The Onsen baths also switch between the women’s and men’s sides each day, so it was great to enjoy different types of baths. I would love to stay here again.

I stayed for a Multiple Night Stay of three nights, and I was very satisfied that you prepared a different dinner menu each day. You also served trout-based dishes as the main course, and I really enjoyed the drinks as well. In addition, I was able to park my motorcycle under a roof, so even on the night the typhoon passed through, I felt at ease knowing it wouldn’t get wet in the rain. When the weather wasn’t good, I returned to the Accommodation early and enjoyed trout fishing at the fishing pond. You even cooked the trout I caught as salt-grilled fish and fried fish to enjoy with drinks after dinner—this trip truly let me fully enjoy Nagano. I would love to stay again if I have another opportunity.

Thank you very much for today. This was, without a doubt, the best glamping Accommodation we have ever stayed at. First, the Room was very spacious, spotless in every corner, and extremely comfortable. What impressed me most was the bath. The jacuzzi bath was amazing, and amenities like ReFa shampoo and a hair dryer were provided as well—I could really feel the attention to detail. We were also completely satisfied with the meals. There was an incredible amount of food—meat, rice, rainbow trout, vegetables, and more—and it was the most generous portion size we’ve ever had at any BBQ facility. I’m honestly disappointed that we could only finish about half of the meat and rice because there was just so much. It truly felt luxurious and exceeded our expectations. Outside the Room there was a hammock that was wonderfully relaxing. Also, the barrel sauna—my first time trying one—was available 24 hours a day. Going back and forth between the sauna, the jacuzzi bath in our Room, and the hammock allowed us to enjoy an incredibly indulgent time. Within the Facility there were many activities for both adults and children—hands-on athletic courses like zip lines, a fishing pond, vegetable harvesting experiences, and more. It was so fulfilling that we didn’t have enough time to do everything. At the premium lounge, we could freely enjoy alcohol, soft drinks, snacks, and more—which made us very happy. Breakfast was excellent as well. Not only was everything delicious; even the tableware—including bowls—was beautiful and showed great care in every detail. It was my first time enjoying a breakfast where even the dishes themselves were part of what made it special. Above all else, what moved me most was how wonderful all of your staff were. In particular one female staff member greeted us with a smile throughout our stay and kindly answered all of our questions. Also when we accidentally booked/mistook our Room due to our own Reservation mistake (and ended up with another Room), you kindly changed it for us without hesitation—we are truly grateful. The Room(s), meals/food/dining experience , Onsen & sauna , activities , lounge , staff hospitality —everything about this place is outstanding . This is an Accommodation that genuinely made us think: “We will definitely come again.” It’s a bit far from Tokyo or other parts of Kanto; however it’s absolutely worth traveling specifically to visit . I would highly recommend it not only to travelers from Tohoku but also those coming from Kanto Kansai Kyushu—and even from overseas . The cost performance/value for money is truly exceptional ; this is easily one of those places where you can sincerely say “I’m so glad we came.” We will definitely return . Thank you very much .

This is a small, traditional Japanese-style Ryokan with just six Rooms, but it was very well maintained with attentive cleaning and service, creating a wonderful atmosphere. When I told them I was coming by train, they surprised me by picking me up at the station—perhaps because it was drizzling. I was satisfied with both the quality and quantity of the meals, and the Onsen was at just the right temperature—so comfortable I could stay in forever. The riverside open-air bath had a great view and felt amazing. I’d love to stay again.

This Accommodation offered pleasantly attentive service with just the right amount of distance, and we had a very comfortable stay. If you check the Facility details and amenities on the website in advance, I think you’ll find the price and service extremely satisfying. That said, the final road leading to the Accommodation is quite narrow, which was a bit nerve-racking… We booked a standard two-meal Plan, and both meals were delicious with plenty of river fish. It was my first time trying yamame trout sashimi, and even my son—who usually doesn’t like sashimi—was surprised and said, “I can eat this.” Also, just as other Reviews said, the kimchi (kakuteki) was outstanding. The bath at this Accommodation is not an Onsen, but there are 13 unique public baths just outside. Because of that, I felt that having an in-house bath where you can soak slowly at a comfortable temperature is definitely a plus. For rating purposes, however—since this is an Accommodation in Nozawa Onsen Village but not an Onsen—I deducted one star. Overall, this is an Accommodation with a very high level of satisfaction.

The natural Biwamasu trout, proof of its orange color from feasting on plenty of shrimp! It's incredibly delicious!! Served as sashimi, grilled, fried, and more in generous portions. Living in the Kanto region makes it hard to visit often, but next time I’d love to try the eel hot pot (Jun-Jun). Thank you so much to everyone at the accommodation for your hospitality.

The hotel feels a bit dated, but the staff are wonderful. They kindly offered a free shuttle service to and from the station. We enjoyed the view of the ski jump, as well as the onsen and complimentary massage chairs. It’s also very close to the cable car and has convenient vending machines for drinks.

It was said that it had been snowing until the day before, but there was no snowfall on the day of our stay, allowing us to enjoy a pleasant visit. The light layer of remaining snow added to the charm. We were able to relax in the Onsen and enjoyed a delicious meal. Thank you very much!

From the moment we arrived, everyone greeted us with smiles and the service was very pleasant. However, only the two young female staff members at the evening BBQ area seemed to be working in a very unmotivated way. While everyone else provided great service with a smile, that was disappointing. Also, the bath drain in the Room did not work very well. Still, the food was delicious and the Facility was clean, so overall we were satisfied.

We stayed for one night before the three-day weekend. As we had heard, the lukewarm sulfur-scented water was so relaxing that we could soak in it forever. Besides us, there was only one other couple, so we practically had the bath to ourselves. The beds in the Japanese-Western style room were firm and very comfortable to sleep on. The handmade dishes were delicious, and everything about this accommodation was absolutely satisfying.

Dinner offered a wide variety of dishes, all very delicious, and we were completely satisfied. I only wished the tempura had been served freshly made, but it was still tasty and satisfying. Breakfast was a healthy Japanese-style meal with many small side dishes that went perfectly with rice, and I was happy to be able to have three extra bowls of rice. The private bath was a bit hot, but we could adjust the temperature. The large public bath was also clean, and we were able to relax in the Onsen. The waterfall shower is right in front of you, and they even provide coins for it—excellent. The balance of food, price, and overall satisfaction was very good. We also received discounted ski tickets, which made our ski experience great value as well. They are flexible with breakfast times for hikers and can accommodate bento lunches too, which I found very convenient. I would like to stay again. Thank you very much.

A secluded Accommodation in the forest—quiet, with crisp, clean air. The Room was spacious, and the Japanese-style room with beds was wonderful. The meals were carefully prepared with quality ingredients, and everything we had for both breakfast and dinner was delicious. The accommodation rate was also affordable, and for this price we were able to enjoy a relaxing stay. I’d love to stay again.

We checked in after 6:00 p.m. because we came after the Gokase River canoeing experience, but thank you for accommodating dinner service starting at 6:30 p.m. The meal was very delicious, and we were completely satisfied. A small stream also ran right beside our Room, and its sound and atmosphere were very soothing. Next time, I would like to visit during the season when fireflies are dancing. At night we used the indoor bath, and in the morning we used the bathing Facility on site; both had great water quality and were very relaxing. I wasn’t sure whether the indoor bath was fed by Onsen water, but it had a wonderful atmosphere, and since the ceiling was a glass window, it felt like a semi-open-air bath. (It was also fun to see a gecko clinging to the outside of the glass.)

I stayed here for the first time the night before climbing Mt. Myogi. The Onsen was a cloudy bath, and it was my first time experiencing its iron-like scent. I only had breakfast, but the miso soup in particular was delicious. The staff were pleasant, and the Room was spacious and clean. The futon and pillows were fluffy, so I slept soundly—overall a very satisfying Accommodation.
