This is a small, traditional Japanese-style Ryokan with just six Rooms, but it was very well maintained with attentive cleaning and service, creating a wonderful atmosphere. When I told them I was coming by train, they surprised me by picking me up at the station—perhaps because it was drizzling. I was satisfied with both the quality and quantity of the meals, and the Onsen was at just the right temperature—so comfortable I could stay in forever. The riverside open-air bath had a great view and felt amazing. I’d love to stay again.

I stayed at this Onsen Accommodation for a Multiple Night Stay of two nights. Both breakfast and dinner were served in the same private dining room, and we had the same staff member each time, so we could enjoy our meals in a very relaxed and calm atmosphere. The food was excellent and very satisfying. However, there was no accommodation guidebook in the Room, so I would have appreciated having one.

Everything—from the meals, baths, and Room to the staff’s hospitality—was absolutely satisfying. Both breakfast and dinner were beautifully presented and truly delicious. In addition to what was served at the table for dinner, a separate table was set up with obanzai (Kyoto-style small dishes). Everything I tried was delicious. The broccoli salad, marinated tomatoes, and pickled quail eggs in particular were so good I wanted to try every single dish. Breakfast offered both Japanese- and Western-style options, which I really enjoyed. The baths and Room—and in fact the entire Ryokan—were spotless and very clean. Thoughtful touches were everywhere: trays for jewelry in the bathroom and at the sink in the Room, as well as a warm note about what to do if insects appear along with insect spray provided. It made me feel genuinely happy. And at this price point—I’m truly grateful. I don’t usually want to return to the same Accommodation, but this is a wonderful place that makes me want to come back.

We stayed here at short notice so my son could attend a rugby training camp. Even with rising prices and during summer vacation, we were able to stay at a great rate—with dinner and breakfast included. Dinner (including chicken hot pot) came with an all-you-can-drink option, and we left completely satisfied. Breakfast was also just the right amount. The Onsen temperature was perfect as well. One thing that concerned me was the surroundings—not the building itself, but the area around it. It’s a shame, because the food and Onsen are excellent. With a bit of tidying up, I think it would feel much nicer. The scenery really matters—atmosphere and charm, too. With hopes for improvement, I’d like to stay again. Thank you as well for accommodating my son when his plan suddenly changed to No Meals Included.

On August 5, 2026, our family of five—three generations (my spouse and I, our two sons, and their grandmother)—went glamping for the first time. Right after we arrived, our older son was a bit startled by some insects, but the Facility was very clean and well equipped. What impressed us most was the wood-fired sauna by the river. My younger son and I alternated between the sauna and a cold plunge in the stream, and two hours flew by. The refreshing feeling in the middle of nature was truly exceptional! Dinner was a luxurious BBQ featuring local meat, fish, and vegetables, and breakfast was also hearty. In the forest we even encountered rhinoceros beetles and Miyama stag beetles, fully enjoying Hokkaido’s nature. Grandma loved it too, and everyone in our family was completely satisfied. The staff’s thoughtful hospitality was wonderful—rather than “glamping,” it felt like we truly immersed ourselves in Hokkaido’s great outdoors. My younger son rates it five stars! The wood-fired sauna is especially recommended. Wakka no Mori Campground was amazing!

We booked the Birthday Plan for our first family glamping experience, which also celebrated my wife's birthday. With the meal-inclusive plan, we enjoyed unlimited soft drinks and alcohol from the drink server in the management building, which we could take back to our tent—a very convenient feature. The nearby mountains, river, and park provided great opportunities for exploration and fun with our kids. We visited in early September and enjoyed listening to cicadas while spotting dragonflies, lizards, crickets, and more. It seems that stag beetles can also be found around July to August.

We stayed for one night from July 4 to 5. The building looks quite old from the outside, but the interior has been beautifully renovated, and we had a very comfortable stay. My spouse and I travel every year, and this place was a real find. Every dish was delicious, and there was so much food that we were completely full—very satisfying. Above all, the hostess’s personality made the biggest impression. Her warm, pleasant hospitality made our stay truly enjoyable. We would love to return if we have the chance again. I stayed here for the first time the night before climbing Mt. Myogi. The Onsen was a cloudy bath, and it was my first time experiencing its iron-like scent. I only had breakfast, but the miso soup in particular was delicious. The staff were pleasant, and the Room was spacious and clean. The futon and pillows were fluffy, so I slept soundly—overall a very satisfying Accommodation.

The weather was cloudy and rainy, so we could only catch a glimpse of the majestic view of Mt. Fuji, which was a bit disappointing... The location would have been amazing on a clear day. Since it was an entire villa, it felt like staying in a private vacation home and was very relaxing. Personally, I found it very convenient that there was a washing machine and the bathroom had a drying function. The meals were also delicious. Above all, the staff were kind and efficient in their service, which made our stay even better. Thank you for taking care of us!

Having grown up in the mountains of Nagano Prefecture, I love dishes made with wild mountain vegetables and river fish. The meal we were served here was far more delicious than I ever imagined. I enjoyed each dish with wide-eyed delight. Thanks to the Ryokan owner’s thoughtful consideration, we were able to reserve a private bath time, and my spouse and I could relax together in the Onsen. We plan to visit again in autumn.

We stayed for 2 nights and 3 days during Golden Week with my daughters and our pet rabbit. The sound of the stream from Reisenji River in front of the room and the chirping of small birds created a refreshing atmosphere, allowing us to spend our time peacefully. The meals were delightful, featuring dishes like mountain vegetable tempura, homemade tsukudani, green onion sauce, garlic-flavored grilled chicken skewers, and the specialty rainbow trout somen fry. We enjoyed every dish so much that we emptied the rice container. Each dish was explained to us in detail, and we felt warmth from the hospitality provided by your family. The Onsen was slightly lukewarm, perfect for a relaxing soak that left our bodies warm afterward. The private family bath with free-flowing hot spring water had an abundant supply and was truly enjoyable. Additionally, we could use the public bath right across from the accommodation for free to fully enjoy more Onsen experiences. This trip came right after a busy first month of the new fiscal year for our family; it felt like returning to a relative's countryside home where we could unwind and recharge ourselves completely. With limited accommodations available that allow pets to stay together in-room with meals served there as well, this place is incredibly appreciated! We would love to visit again!

This time, I stayed with a friend. Due to the earthquake, there were fewer tourists, so the Onsen town felt a bit quiet, but the Accommodation had a warm, homey atmosphere and the staff were kind, making it very comfortable to stay. The meal was my first irori kaiseki dinner; it was delicious and very filling. However, during our Onsen-hopping, several places were closed, which was the only disappointment.

This time, I stayed here as a preview visit. I wasn’t sure about the dinner options, and there was also a set-meal restaurant nearby, so I chose the Plan with one night and breakfast only. *I regret not choosing a Plan that included dinner. Facility: It isn’t new, but it was very comfortable. There are also lots of fun touches that both adults and children can enjoy! Onsen: The silky-smooth water quality was fantastic—I was completely satisfied. Exactly my kind of Onsen! Breakfast: Excellent in both taste and portion size—more than satisfactory. The after-coffee service was also wonderful. Dinner: I heard it was very delicious, with a wide variety of dishes including yamame (mountain trout) specialties. *This time, I also had the chance to drink together with other guests and the owner, which made for an incredibly fun time—truly the best.

This time, I stayed for the first time. There was information that the dinner was good, and I stayed with expectations, but I was very satisfied beyond what I imagined. The service was very good, and I had a pleasant stay. The bath and toilet washroom are shared, but even taking that into account, I would like to stay again next year.

The proprietress and staff were very kind, and we were extremely satisfied. My husband mentioned that a female staff member (perhaps) who walked over from the parking lot early in the morning greeted us properly, which made him feel very welcome. Dinner was excellent—the Kurokaba beef steak was absolutely delicious. My husband said he especially enjoyed the sliced raw carp, yamame trout sashimi, Kurokaba beef shabu-shabu, and the overnight-dried yamame trout at breakfast. We also used the private Onsen in our Room four times, and our skin felt wonderfully smooth. It was a truly satisfying stay. Thank you very much.

The amenities were excellent, and the items provided in the Accommodation were far more extensive than expected—everything you’d hope for was there, including insect repellent and coffee and tea—so we were very satisfied!! There were also loan items like manga and board games, and it seemed you could buy handheld fireworks at reception as well! Even if you’re not a fan of insects, it’s great that you can relax in nature without having to worry about them.

I visited for the first time in three years. It was a cold day, so I was quickly guided to the bath and warmed up. The meal, which I had been looking forward to, was served one dish at a time with explanations, making it an enjoyable experience and leaving me completely satisfied. The more you travel, the more your 기준 for choosing an Accommodation shifts from “luxury” to “essential comfort.” Tucked away in a mountain gorge at 1,000 meters above sea level in Kokonoe, Oita, Tabinoyado Yamatsubaki feels like the final paradise discerning travelers eventually find. Its greatest value lies in its intentionally limited number of rooms. Far removed from the bustle of a large Ryokan, it offers complete privacy—paired with perfectly judged hospitality that is attentive without ever feeling intrusive. From the moment you arrive, you can feel everyday life quietly fade away. The open-air bath is simply unforgettable. In crisp, unobstructed air, soaking in superb free-flowing Onsen while watching the starry sky shift moment by moment becomes more than a bath—it’s an indulgent sense of oneness with nature. For an Accommodation with such a private atmosphere, the generous space throughout is exceptional and especially appealing to wellness-minded travelers. As I was visiting after business and didn’t want to inconvenience the owner couple, I booked a stay with breakfast only—but each dish at breakfast told its own story. Every bite was spot-on and far beyond expectations. I regretted not ordering dinner so much that I could only think afterward: “Why didn’t I?” I also learned that at nearby Komatsu Jigoku—reopened for sightseeing after restoration completed in summer 2025—you can make Onsen eggs yourself. They kindly sold me eggs upon request and graciously accommodated my last-minute favor. I visited in early summer, but reaching Kokonoe’s mountains when they are covered in snow will likely require some preparation. Even so, that challenge only adds to the thrill of heading into a hidden retreat. Nature, renowned hot springs, and outstanding cuisine—Yamatsubaki brings them together in near-perfect balance. It isn’t just somewhere to stay; it’s a destination in itself—a truly one-of-a-kind Accommodation worth traveling for.

Based on past Reviews, it looked great, so I decided to book. It’s been a few years since I last stayed at a pension. It was my first time in Himekidaira, and there seemed to be quite a lot of pensions (with a few closed here and there). There are quite a few stairs from the parking lot to the entrance, so it might be a little tough if you have heavy luggage. The Room we stayed in was a deluxe twin with an en-suite bath and toilet. From the photos I thought there wouldn’t be a washlet toilet seat, but it was included, which was nice. The Room was spacious, and since it was also a corner room, the view surrounded by trees felt very relaxing. The interior design is tasteful and everything is clean. There are two private baths; both are the same size, and we were able to unwind in the soft water of the artificial Onsen. The dinner dining area had even more wonderful decor. Each table has fabric partitions, giving it a semi-private feel. It also helped that each person can choose an all-you-can-drink option for beverages. Just as the Reviews said, every dish was delicious, with more volume than expected. For breakfast you can choose an egg dish, and the bread is thick-cut toast. Several drinks and yogurt are self-serve. In short, we were simply impressed by how stylish and spotless everything throughout the property was. The owner couple were kind as well—it’s easy to see why they have so many repeat guests. Thank you very much for taking such good care of us. It’s not somewhere we can visit casually due to the distance, but we’d love to return when traveling in Shinshu again.
