A truly quiet retreat worthy of being called the ultimate villa—so peaceful you can hear only birdsong. I was able to relax deeply and feel completely at ease. The food was exceptionally high quality; the corn consommé soup and the eggplant-and-tempeh caprese were unbelievably delicious. I bought the flower-shaped cheese on top of the caprese at a roadside station. Thank you again for taking such great care of us.

My first visit to Hakone in decades. I stayed at Matsuzakaya Honten, an Accommodation filled with elegance and tradition. From the warm welcome at the entrance to the farewell, everything was impeccable. The staff were wonderful—always smiling and greeting us. In particular, I was amazed at how fluent the international staff were in Japanese; it felt completely natural. All-you-can-drink alcohol and soft drinks were included, and both dinner and breakfast were delicious. Especially memorable was the grilled dried horse mackerel at breakfast—it was wonderfully rich and flavorful. Even in these times when costs are rising, I could really feel the Accommodation’s efforts. Thank you very much. P.S. This is my favorite Accommodation. The bath in the Room is very spacious, with plenty of hot water flowing 24 hours a day—this is truly an Onsen Accommodation! There are also a private family bath, an open-air bath, and separate large public baths for men and women (indoor and open-air), so you can enjoy an Onsen tour without leaving the Accommodation. The meals feature satoyama cuisine with carefully balanced seasoning—exactly to my taste. Thanks to the staff’s explanations and conversation, dinner was especially enjoyable. The futon bedding was clean and wonderfully fluffy; it felt so comfortable that I was already asleep by 9:00 PM. In the quiet middle of the night, I woke up and went back for another bath… it was pure Onsen bliss. I relaxed at a leisurely pace while admiring the fresh greenery from the Room window. The tatami mats were spotless, and amenities like the ReFa hair dryer and even the toilet were new and comfortable. After seeing photos of Kiyasuya in its winter scenery, I definitely want to visit again. Thank you very much.

We stayed for one night and two days. It was truly a wonderful Accommodation, and to fully enjoy this space (as someone else also mentioned), one night was not enough! Every Room was thoroughly cleaned, and the bathroom areas were very clean! The bed was comfortable, and I slept incredibly well. The bath was also very relaxing. It makes you want to live here! The staff were very kind, and when we told them what we wanted to eat, they immediately recommended restaurants. The place they suggested was delicious... We got to try various cuts of tuna, which became a great memory. We will definitely stay again! Thank you for such a wonderful time!

It was a calm, adults-only Accommodation with a relaxing atmosphere. The attentive service, guest room, and bath facilities were all high quality, and we were very satisfied. The meals were not too much—just the right amount for seniors—and truly excellent. Finally, I sincerely appreciate your honest and considerate response when I mistakenly thought I was a Diamond member. Thank you very much.

We’re repeat guests for the cats, delicious food, and the cozy comfort of having everything you need right in the Room. This time my husband came with us too. The kids were thrilled with the maisonette and the open-air bath. We also love the skincare amenities such as lotion—they’re from a brand we like. We were so happy to finally spend time with the cats again. Since this was our first summer stay, we were told, “You might find stag beetles on the balcony,” and there were so many (surprisingly)! We took some home and are taking good care of them. Thank you for all your thoughtful consideration. Dinner was served at perfect timing—hot dishes hot and cold dishes cold—and my husband really enjoyed how delicious everything was. For breakfast we chose Japanese this time; the clay-pot rice selected by a rice meister was outstanding. Our child asked for seconds again and again. Everything was perfect except that the children’s pajamas we borrowed felt smaller than expected for their size. Thank you as always for your warm welcome—it made for an amazing start to our summer vacation. We’d love to come back again.

I first learned about this Accommodation in a travel magazine and had wanted to visit for years. From the moment I made my Reservation, the staff reached out several times with thoughtful messages, which felt truly warm and welcoming. I’m grateful for their kind advice on transportation as well as nearby recommended spots and restaurants. Set on a vast property, the Accommodation offers wonderful views, and I was thrilled to encounter deer while strolling around. The Onsen had excellent water quality, the Facility was well maintained, and I was able to unwind and soothe my fatigue while enjoying the scenery. A local regular I spoke with in the bath said they stay here every month—I couldn’t help but envy them. It was an outstanding Accommodation where both mind and body could fully relax. I would love to visit again. Every staff member was gentle and attentive, and their hospitality made it possible for me to truly feel at ease throughout my stay—each day felt happy. Thank you very much for such a wonderful time.

A last-minute cancellation opened up, and I was truly lucky to get a Reservation at this Accommodation—often said to be “the hardest to book in Japan.” I’ve stayed at many Onsen Ryokan across Japan, and I think this one is the best. From the parking lot to the Room, I was surrounded by beautiful greenery the entire way. It was such an atmospheric Ryokan—like stepping into another world. At check-in, enjoying the greenery and the sound of the river while having delicious welcome snacks instantly made me forget the day’s busyness, fatigue, and even the intense summer heat. It felt as if time had stopped, and I became completely calm. The Room was spacious and spotless, and it even had a CD player, so I could truly relax. The indoor bath, their signature cave bath (“Cave Onsen”), and “Musou,” a private Onsen—all of them were outstanding. The food was probably the most delicious meal experience I’ve ever had during any stay. In particular, the salt-grilled ayu sweetfish, brown rice soup, and Shinshu Orein pork shoulder loin were exceptional. After check-out, it was also fun to take a walk along the promenade trail. Thank you to all the staff for your kind hospitality. This is an Accommodation that exceeds expectations—I had a deeply satisfying stay. Now I understand why it’s so hard to get a Reservation. I’d love to come back in another season!

The comfort of falling asleep while gazing at the stars. The bed sheets also felt like towels and were very pleasant. Since it’s in the mountains, I wasn’t expecting much from the meals, but everything was delicious. All of the male staff who served us were friendly, and their smiles were wonderful. It’s an Accommodation I’d love to visit again in a different season.

I was impressed by every aspect of this stay. First, the food was truly outstanding. Not only were the ingredients excellent, but the menu featured an abundance of seasonal items that are hard to come by in everyday life—such as longtooth grouper (kue), Shizuoka-brand eel “Deshiko,” pike conger (hamo), kuruma prawns, and Kamo eggplant—and I was moved by each dish. There wasn’t a single miss: the dashi flavor came through beautifully, and the balance of ingredients and seasoning in every course was exquisite. The overall satisfaction was so high that it honestly felt surprising to be able to stay at this price while being served cuisine of such a high level. The Onsen was also wonderful. The bath area is new and kept very clean, so it was comfortable to use. In particular, Umenoya’s unique natural spring water at around 30°C was perfect for this hot season. Alternating it with the indoor bath at around 40°C left me feeling refreshed after bathing and made for a truly relaxing time. I highly recommend trying it this way. Above all, what left the strongest impression was the hospitality of the staff. When I accidentally dropped my chopsticks during dinner, one staff member immediately noticed and picked them up, and another staff member who saw this brought me a fresh pair. Their seamless teamwork showed how well they communicate on a daily basis, which really moved me. The proprietress has such a warm presence—always smiling and speaking to guests in a friendly way. Despite her young age, her attentiveness to guests and her awareness of everything throughout the Ryokan are exceptional; I don’t often encounter someone capable of providing hospitality at this level. It was an Accommodation that left me completely satisfied with its cuisine, Onsen, and service. I would love to return in another season to enjoy more delicious food and the Onsen again.

It was a wonderful Accommodation, just as rumored. The Onsen on the first floor was especially impressive. The staff were very courteous, and since we arrived 30 minutes before our scheduled meal, they kindly adjusted the dining time for us. When making the Reservation, I had ordered a birthday cake, and they also prepared a birthday melody on a music box, a small flower basket, and even celebratory bite-sized sekihan and sweets—it was truly touching.

My friend and I stayed for one night and two days. When we arrived at the front desk to check in, an insect flew toward us and I let out a small scream, but the woman at reception smiled and said, “I’ve lived on Yakushima for a long time, but you never really get used to the insects,” which put me at ease and was very comforting. The lobby was spacious and clean, and the Room was also extremely clean with an amazing ocean view. Meals were buffet-style for both breakfast and dinner; in particular, the Margherita pizza and mushroom risotto made to order by the chef were delicious. The bath also had a luxurious ocean view, and the silky-smooth water soaked into my body after all the trekking. This time we stayed only one night, but I’d love to come back and stay a bit longer next time.

This was our first stay here, and among all the places we’ve visited, it was the best Accommodation for Western-style cuisine. Thank you to all the staff for your hospitality from welcome to farewell. The Room (very relaxing) and the bath (the in-room bath was more than enough) were both excellent. Above all, the meals were outstanding—both dinner and breakfast. Each dish was beautifully presented (including the tableware) and delicious, and we were amazed by how many items there were in the Japanese breakfast (we finished everything). We will definitely visit again during the autumn foliage season. One request: it would be nice to have body wash towels available in the bath area.

This was our second stay. Since our third son (our beloved dog) joined our family five years ago, we only choose Accommodations where we can stay together, so we’ve stayed at many pet-friendly places around the Kanto area. With new Accommodations opening all the time, there are only a few we’ve actually revisited—but this one is exceptionally satisfying, so we returned during the Obon holiday period. With pet-friendly Accommodations, there’s often something you have to compromise on, but this place is almost perfect. The balcony of our Room had an open-air Onsen bath, a sauna, a cold plunge bath, a relaxation area with a shower, and even an open-air bath for dogs. Inside the Room there was a theater room with two massage chairs and a dining room where you can enjoy your meals in-room—the French cuisine served there is truly delicious. Recently there have been more Accommodations with excellent Facilities, but I don’t know any other place where you can enjoy food of this quality in your Room together with your dog. Once again, everything we ate was outstanding. If you’re looking for the best Accommodation to stay with your dog, I highly recommend visiting.

Following stays at Fufu Nikko, Atami, Hakone, and Jogashima, we were also able to stay in Ginza. There is nothing but complete satisfaction with everything—the Room, the bath, and the meals. Although we have stayed at Fufu many times, we felt thoughtfulness and warmth everywhere, and it was one moving moment after another. Being able to enjoy a drink while soaking in the footbath and taking in the city views truly felt like Ginza. My mother is currently undergoing treatment, but staying at Fufu also helps boost her immunity. We can only be grateful that we were able to spend such a happy time together as parent and child. I would like to express my sincere thanks to the General Manager and all of the staff who assisted us. We will visit again later this year. We look forward to seeing you all again.

I chose this Accommodation because I was drawn to the phrase “100% free-flowing natural hot spring,” and it truly lived up to the promise—it was a wonderful place to stay. The Onsen had only a mild mineral scent, yet the water felt silky and very pleasant. Because it’s on the cooler side, you can soak slowly without getting overheated, which is another great point. Most impressive of all, even the shower water was Onsen water—remarkable. The spring yield must be abundant. I’ve stayed at many hot springs over the years, but in terms of water quality, views, and Facility offerings, I genuinely think this is an outstanding Onsen. If I had to mention one thing, it would be helpful if drinking water were available in the resting area for those times when you end up soaking a bit too long. The Facility has the atmosphere of a traditional Ryokan, and I’d be lying if I said it didn’t feel somewhat old-fashioned—but rather than being a negative, I appreciated how they value what’s old while making up for any shortcomings with warm hospitality and service. The Room was thoroughly cleaned and felt very fresh; even the tatami mats were comfortable. The generous meals made with local ingredients were also delicious. Despite being in a landlocked prefecture, the sashimi was excellent—a pleasant surprise. My only regret is that there was so much food that I couldn’t finish everything. Finally, thank you very much for your wonderful hospitality during our stay. We visited to celebrate my father’s birthday; when I mentioned this at the time of Reservation, we received a lovely extra service at dinner on the day. Thanks as well for upgrading our Room—we were able to relax comfortably in a spacious setting. We were completely satisfied with everything—the Onsen, meals, and hospitality—and would love to visit again.

The food was absolutely delicious. We were also very satisfied that the private Onsen bath was available 24 hours a day. The hostess kindly told us about nearby sightseeing spots, which made our trip even more enjoyable. We would love to visit again with my husband.

I visited Hiiragiya again. I had made a Reservation for a Room with a bath and toilet, but I was first shown to a Room without them. It was still very comfortable, but when I asked to Check Reservation, I was told there had been a mistake, and you kindly arranged for me to stay in the Room associated with author Yasunari Kawabata. Thank you for your thoughtful care. Once again, I enjoyed Kyoto’s summer flavors—chilled edamame soup topped with sea urchin, pike conger sashimi, grilled tilefish with crispy scales, jellied soft-shelled turtle broth, Kamo eggplant with sesame sauce, and more—then fully enjoyed Yoiyama and fell asleep thinking of Mr. Kawabata before continuing on to the Gion Festival. Kyoto is changing little by little, but this is the beauty of Japan—and the spirit of Japanese hospitality—that I hope will be passed on to future generations.

It was a wonderful Accommodation, just as the Reviews said. The food, the interior throughout the property, and the furnishings in the guest rooms were all tastefully chosen, and since there were only six groups of guests, we were able to relax even though it was peak season. The staff’s service was also excellent. It was an Accommodation that made us want to come back again after a long time.

With no real knowledge of Tsuchiyu Onsen—I'd heard the name but that was about it—we visited as a group of three with my elderly parents, relying on the great Reviews. We parked and entered into the 5th-floor lobby. The beauty of the parquet woodwork and the lush green gorge took our breath away. We checked in while enjoying welcome drinks on the sofa. Our Room on the 3rd floor was just as modern as in the photos and came with a cypress open-air bath. Before dinner, we used the large public bath on the 1st floor. The water was amazing!! A faint sulfur scent and silky water that seemed to cling to your skin. My parents were impressed too, saying it was the best Onsen water they’d ever experienced. Apparently even the shower water is from the Onsen—I’d never seen that before, so I was surprised. We went to the public bath three times during our one-night stay, and only ran into another guest once (just one person). It felt almost private, which made it even better. Dinner was served in a private room on the 4th floor. We chose Japanese cuisine. The explanations were very careful and easy to understand, and everything—from taste to presentation (including the tableware)—was beautiful; you could really feel the chef’s attention to detail. The handwritten menu also had a wonderful charm. Breakfast was also Japanese cuisine, and we were just as satisfied as we were at dinner. This trip also celebrated my mother’s birthday and mine, so we booked an Anniversary Plan. After dinner they brought out a cake, but we were too full to eat it, so they delivered it to our Room instead. After relaxing in the Onsen for a bit, we still felt full—but said “Since it’s here anyway, let’s finish it tonight,” made some coffee...and ended up eating it all! It really was delicious!! We were also happy with the parquet coaster gift—thank you very much. To all of your staff: thank you for taking such great care of us. We truly appreciate all your kindness. We will definitely come again while my parents are still healthy!
