I’ve stayed at various Vacation Villages, but Retreat Azumino Hotel was completely different from any of them! This Hotel is too good to enjoy in just one night. It made me want a Multiple Night Stay. It’s quiet, spotless, and I have nothing to complain about.

You can really feel the dignity of a long-established Ryokan. It had the distinguished atmosphere of an Accommodation that hosts the Kisei title match. After arrival, my companion was delighted with the welcome beer (or soft drink). We used the complimentary beer voucher during our stay after bathing and enjoyed a delicious post-bath beer. Dinner was served in our Room, so we could relax and take our time. I had breakfast in the dining area, though it seems in-room breakfast is also available. I say that because a staff member mistakenly came to deliver breakfast to our Room (an error). Both dinner and breakfast were enjoyable, making great use of local ingredients. Breakfast in particular was simple but delicious. At checkout, the staff apologized for the breakfast mix-up, and the proprietress also offered her apologies. That kind of thoughtfulness felt like true Japanese Ryokan hospitality.

It would be great if guests could check the availability of the private bath from their Room. Personally, I was hoping for delicious sashimi, and it was served in beautifully crafted dishes and tasted excellent. Haruna Shrine has a wonderful atmosphere and is highly recommended.

We stayed during the Obon holiday season with my parents and my child, and the connecting rooms gave us plenty of space to relax. The magic show was really entertaining, and my child loved it! The Facility had just been renovated, so everything was clean and we had a very comfortable stay. There was a Reproizer hair dryer in the large public bath, which was a nice touch for women. I did notice the shampoo didn’t lather as well as I expected, so I wish I had brought my own. There were many families with children, and we appreciated the welcoming atmosphere where we could enjoy ourselves without feeling self-conscious even with kids. We had a wonderful time as a family. We’d love to come again!

The Room, service, bath, and meals were all excellent—we were very satisfied and would like to come again. The only disappointment was that fine feathers came out of the duvet and floated around, causing sneezing and itchiness when sleeping. A fully enclosed duvet cover might be better.

We stayed as a family to celebrate my husband’s birthday and our wedding anniversary. From the moment we checked in, we were amazed by the spacious, wonderful Room you prepared for us. When we checked out, we learned that it had been upgraded free of charge, which truly moved us even more. At dinner, you even prepared a fruit platter to celebrate my husband’s birthday and our anniversary—thank you so much. Our whole family was touched by your warm thoughtfulness. The Onsen also offered a great variety, and we enjoyed bathing many times. Most memorable of all was the dinner buffet. Not only was every dish delicious, but each time limited-quantity items were announced one after another, we found ourselves excitedly wondering what would come next as we enjoyed our meal. Thanks to the Room, the Onsen, the meals, and above all the warm hospitality of your staff, this trip became an unforgettable memory for our entire family. After returning home, my husband and children told me, “Thanks to you, Mom, it was such a wonderful trip. Let’s do it again.” That made this trip especially joyful for me as well. I sincerely appreciate all of your kindness and consideration. We look forward to visiting again as a family someday. Thank you very much.

We stayed here for our elementary school-aged daughter’s birthday trip. She requested a buffet, so we looked for a place with a menu that both kids and adults could enjoy, and this is where we ended up. The buffet offered a wide variety of dishes featuring local ingredients, and we were very satisfied with both dinner and breakfast. Not only that, but check-in and check-out were smooth, the welcome service was excellent, and the playroom—clean and well stocked with plenty of activities—was always lively with guests. The Onsen was slightly lukewarm, which was perfect for our family since we don’t like very hot baths. The staff kept a comfortable distance; there wasn’t much small talk, but whenever we asked something they responded very politely, which made our stay pleasant. The next day we took a walk through Sosenkyo Gorge right in front of the hotel. It was easy to access, and we were able to enjoy ourselves even after checking out. Thank you very much. If I had to mention one drawback, it would be that the parking lot felt small for how busy it gets; when larger cars line up, getting in and out can be difficult. It would be even more comfortable if it could be expanded or improved.

I’ve stayed at many Accommodations where I thought, “This looks different from the photos on the official website…,” so I tried not to expect too much, but I was completely satisfied with everything. The Room was spacious and clean, and the in-room toilet had been renovated—large and comfortable. The footbath was also very relaxing. Both breakfast and dinner were buffet-style and delicious. The staff were all very pleasant as well. By chance, there was a summer festival nearby on the day we stayed, so we enjoyed Bon dancing, food stalls, games, and even a small fireworks display. I would love to stay again. Thank you very much.

We were very satisfied. The Room was clean, and the amenities were well stocked. The kids were really happy and had a great time playing, so we were glad. We would like to stay again if we have the opportunity. Thank you very much.

We stayed here to visit Mount Koya. The meals were delicious, and desserts and drinks were all-you-can-eat and all-you-can-drink. The bath water was soft, and everything was excellent.

The views are outstanding. The Onsen is spacious and includes an open-air bath; the spring water is a bit hot, so you can enjoy both. Meals are buffet-style, and the steak, soba noodles, and soft-serve ice cream were especially delicious. The Room is simple, and the bathroom area feels like a typical Business Hotel unit bath. I wanted a draft beer after the bath, but there was no such Facility in the lobby, so I bought canned beer from a vending machine. Satisfaction changes greatly depending on whether you can see the Northern Alps. I’d rate the facilities and Room as 3/5, but considering the price—about ¥30,000 on weekdays for two people with two meals—I’d give it 4/5 overall. With the Onsen and Northern Alps view, I was very satisfied. Choose a Room with a view on the 3rd floor or higher.

The Room, baths, and meals were all wonderful. Both the in-room bath and the private Kashinoki-no-Yu Onsen were excellent. When I mentioned that the handle on the bath basket had come off, they responded immediately. As for the food, when I told them I have gout and can’t eat pork, they adjusted part of the meal. Every dish was delicious, and you could really tell how carefully everything was prepared. The soba was also great. All of the staff we spoke with in various situations were very pleasant, and it truly became a memorable trip. The view from the Room was amazing as well. There was a light mist over the mountains, and we enjoyed the beautiful scenery. It rained at night, but that actually made it even more relaxing with the sound of rain—I didn’t feel disappointed at all even though it rained. The American who traveled with me was impressed by everything and happily said they will definitely come again! I rarely write a Review no matter how much I travel, but Tsuruya was truly outstanding. If you’re considering a trip to Gunma, this is an Accommodation I would highly recommend—so I decided to write this Review. Next time, I’d love to enjoy the winter scenery along with the Onsen and meals. We will definitely visit again! Thank you very much.

I stayed in a Room with an open-air bath with a two-meal plan. I only realized after arriving at the station that there was no shuttle bus in the 2 p.m. hour, so I took a city bus instead. It was very helpful that you were able to process my check-in early.\nThe bath in the Room had a pleasantly silky texture and I could use it anytime. I also love manga, so having them set up right outside the Room was perfect.\nBreakfast and dinner were buffet-style. Dinner was enjoyable enough, but I wish breakfast had offered a bit more variety. There wasn’t much I wanted to eat, and even the salted bread—the one item I did want—sold out while I was waiting in line, even though it wasn’t yet 8:00 a.m.… which was disappointing.\nI assume the shuttle bus schedule avoids peak times for check-in and check-out because it gets crowded, but the timing feels a bit awkward. If you arrive early to enjoy Manyo Club, or if you plan to continue using it for an additional fee after check-out, then it shouldn’t be an issue.\nI liked this Onsen Facility more than the one in Kobe, so I would like to stay again.

One member of our party required special consideration regarding meals, and when we contacted you by email in advance, you replied promptly and accommodated us as much as possible. We truly appreciated your kind response despite it being a busy season. The meal prepared for our family member did not look sparse or reduced in portion, was delicious, and above all, they were very happy with the care shown. Of course, any health impact related to meals is ultimately the guest’s own responsibility (I would like to emphasize this for the sake of everyone at the Hotel), but we were genuinely moved by how considerate your approach was. Not only at the restaurant, but also from the staff who welcomed us, at the front desk, and at the shop, your attentiveness and perfectly comfortable sense of distance made us feel at ease. We were able to experience the calm elegance and excellence of a prestigious Hotel with a long tradition. We are sincerely grateful. Thank you again—we would love to visit again.

From the sophisticated design at the entrance to the Kyoto-style streets leading to the accommodation, everything lifted my spirits. Inside, it felt like a cozy home with its two-story structure, making it very relaxing. I stayed with a dinner and breakfast included plan. First, I enjoyed unlimited Kyoto sweets and drinks in the lounge, then indulged in a meat-lover's dream dinner. For a late-night snack, I had an egg sandwich, and in the morning, I savored a luxurious and hearty breakfast before leaving fully satisfied. I regret not arriving hungrier! The complimentary drinks provided in the room were all delicious—one night wasn't enough to enjoy them all. The staff's hospitality was exceptional, making this stay truly outstanding. I would love to stay here again if given another opportunity!

We stayed at Kinugawa Onsen “Kizuna” from July 31 to August 2, 2026 (2 nights/3 days). We checked in with two adults, one child, and two Chihuahuas. I thought I had made a Reservation for a Room without an open-air bath, but due to what seemed to be a communication issue, we were instead shown to a Room with an open-air bath (a lucky surprise). Having an open-air bath in the Room meant we could enjoy the Onsen anytime, day or night, and our whole family had a truly happy time. For every meal (breakfast and dinner), we were able to dine in a private room (rather than the usual shared dining area). The menu changed each time, so we looked forward to every meal and headed there excitedly. Each dish was refined and absolutely delicious. With drinks as well, we felt completely satisfied after every meal. By chance, the Nikko Fireworks Festival was held on Saturday, August 8, and we were able to enjoy spectacular fireworks from our Room as well (another lucky moment). Above all else, what made our stay so comfortable was the attentive service from the manager and staff members—and their genuine hospitality in accommodating guests’ requests. That level of professionalism seemed to fill the entire Ryokan, allowing guests to relax completely and enjoy an exceptional experience. For three days, we fully enjoyed an extraordinary getaway both physically and mentally. It may sound childish, but it was such a wonderful Ryokan that I didn’t want to leave—I wanted to stay forever. Everyone in our family kept saying “Let’s come again,” so we will definitely return. My heartfelt thanks go out to everyone who took care of us at “Kizuna.” Thank you very much for everything.

We stayed here for a trip to Yamanashi. We stayed two nights, and it was disappointing not to see Mt. Fuji from the first day, but on the last day we could see Mt. Fuji perfectly from the window! There are houses nearby, but it was my first time seeing Mt. Fuji so beautifully and I was truly moved. I think this is a log cabin with a spectacular view. The cabin has a cypress barrel bath, which feels wonderfully luxurious. This time we couldn’t see Mt. Fuji while bathing, but on a clear day it seems like it would be an amazing scenic bath! The public bathhouse directly across the street was also great.

Unfortunately, due to cloudy and rainy weather, we couldn’t see the starry sky, but we’re already thinking about when to come back for another try. There was a warm, homey atmosphere among guests as well—people asked questions and helped each other out. The drink corner was a great idea, but even after trying many times, no ice came out, and there were a few things that were unclear. An elderly guest seemed troubled because the coffee wouldn’t stop dispensing. I think it would be helpful to post easy-to-understand instructions. At mealtimes, the staff serving us were all foreigners, but they were very polite. Their Japanese was quite limited at times so we didn’t always understand what they said, but we could generally guess from the context and had no issues. One thing that stood out compared with other hotels I’ve stayed at: since it’s a quiet Hotel I thought this might be normal here, but I was surprised that none of the staff said “good morning” to guests in the morning. When my husband passed by the front desk he greeted them first; they may not have heard him, but they were chatting among themselves and didn’t greet guests even as people walked right in front of them. In contrast, the foreign staff in the restaurant—even with limited Japanese—did say “good morning.” Also, the Onsen was wonderful, but there is no fan in the changing room. Having one would help guests cool down more easily and might reduce crowding there. The large public bath and open-air bath are very comfortable and warm you up well. The green view from the open-air bath—and in the morning, clouds or mist drifting over the mountains—felt truly unique. The meals were a good portion size and showed creativity within their price range. Dinner offered an enjoyable mix of Japanese- and Western-style dishes with plenty of variety. Breakfast was buffet-style with many options including both Western and Japanese items as well as desserts; everyone seemed to be enjoying it. The highland area is beautiful—it feels like it could even become a villa resort area someday. We also visited Relaxia Forest next to the Hotel (apparently used as a movie filming location). It’s a lovely forest where we could enjoy forest bathing too. There don’t seem to be any other Hotels around this area, so we’d like to stay again.

This was my first stay. The atmosphere was warm and homey, and all the staff welcomed us with bright smiles. The Facility is a bit old, but it is well maintained and spotlessly clean. The meals featured locally sourced ingredients, were beautifully presented, and absolutely delicious. The Onsen warmed me through to the core and left my skin glowing. I soaked in it many times. I felt refreshed for the first time in a while. I’m happy to have found an Accommodation I’d love to stay at again. Thank you very much.

We were able to relax at the Aso Onsen. Both Dondoko-yu and the Hotel Onsen were great. We also enjoyed the meals, which included alcohol and drinks. We drove from the Yoshinogari Historical Park in Saga Prefecture to Aso, Kumamoto, and then to the Oka Castle Ruins in Taketa City, Oita, and it was comfortable and enjoyable.
