This is a Japanese-style suite reached by stairs. As you enter, folk-art furniture sits on the wooden-floored entry area; open the vermilion-lacquered double-sided kumiko shoji framed by carefully crafted natural-wood pillars and rails, and you step into a tatami Room scented with fresh rush. Seasonal hanging scrolls and flowers, and a large low table complete the setting. From the wide north-facing window, you can see the river surface and the temple’s great roof. By the window are a box hibachi used as a table and a small rocking chair. At the back of the south-side wooden-floored area, it seems an extension has been added: a large, bright bath area (a thick, oversized hinoki cypress tub big enough for about four people to soak together, washing space, footbath, and washbasin). Through the glass door you can view mountain ridges; open it to step onto the veranda and feel the breeze. The water flows continuously 24/7 despite concerns about humidity affecting wooden construction. Everything is kept very clean and well maintained—an indulgent bathing experience. After finishing an excellent meal at a calm small dining room table facing the garden, we returned to find our futons laid out. A bed would be easier, but it would probably feel out of place in this Room. I adjusted the futon orientation to my preference. In addition to air conditioning there is also a gas fan heater, so it should stay warm even in winter. Renovation work seems to be progressing in stages, and I’m looking forward to seeing newly refurbished Rooms.

It was a wonderful stay. I hope to visit again someday. If I could make one request, I would have preferred the bedside water to be a Japanese brand as well.

We were extremely satisfied with everything—the service, the meals, and the Room. Every dish was delicious, and both dinner and breakfast were outstanding. The service was excellent as well and made us want to come back. It was hot this time so we couldn’t take a walk around the garden, but we’d like to visit again in a different season and enjoy a stroll through the garden. The food looked so good that we only managed to take photos of the appetizers.

We visited during Golden Week for a birthday trip. From the warm welcome to the lounge, Room, baths, and meals, everything throughout our stay was wonderful and made it a truly unforgettable trip. The view from the Room was beautiful, and we were able to spend a relaxing, luxurious time. Every dish was genuinely delicious; even though the portions were generous, it was so good that I finished everything for the first time. All of the staff were consistently kind and attentive, which made our entire stay very comfortable. We also went to an outside bath, but it was quite crowded—so much so that we felt completely satisfied with just the Ryokan’s baths. In particular, the in-Room bath had perfect temperature and excellent water quality, and it was incredibly soothing. I’ve been traveling about once every two months for many years, but this is the first Ryokan that truly made me think, “I definitely want to come back.” Next time, I’d love to visit during crab season. Thank you very much for such a wonderful time.

Pickup service The Room atmosphere—everything was wonderful. The food was absolutely delicious, and we were able to spend a lovely time; we were truly happy and had a great time. We also appreciate the attentive care from the staff. Thank you for making our Miyajima trip unforgettable.

It had been a while since we last enjoyed Honjin’s French cuisine. Each dish, carefully prepared using local ingredients, was delicious from start to finish. Not a single course was the same as last time—everything was outstanding. Even in Tokyo, it’s rare to find French cuisine of this quality. And with no dress code, it didn’t feel intimidating at all; we were able to relax and truly enjoy the meal. That’s one of the great things about Honjin. 　The sake I had for the first time in a while was also excellent. Another great point is that if you visit a few times, you may occasionally receive pleasant surprise services. 　We’re already looking forward to the next French dinner.

This was a wonderful guest Room worthy of the “Special Suite Annex.” In particular, the Japanese-style Room facing Lake Shinji was a corner Room with a small Japanese garden, and we were able to relax while sitting on the veranda. It was unfortunate that we couldn’t go out onto the terrace due to the rain, but we were able to take our time soaking in the Onsen in the in-Room scenic-view bath while looking out over Lake Shinji. Each dish was excellent, and the sea bream rice at breakfast was outstanding.

I enjoyed exceptional cuisine and the Onsen at this small luxury Accommodation. The staff’s warm, attentive hospitality, the well-appointed Facilities and amenities, and the beautiful selection of tableware by Kyoto artisans all made for a wonderful holiday.

Due to bad weather, we changed our travel destination and ended up staying here at short notice as a family of five. Everyone except the person who made the Reservation wasn’t very enthusiastic until we arrived, but our stay here won them over and they were extremely satisfied. We felt truly relaxed by the meals, the atmosphere of the Room, and the hospitality. Personally, I was thrilled to find several types of Isamu Noguchi lighting in the traditional Japanese house-style Room. Next time, I’d love to spend time here during the rainy season or when the fresh greenery is at its best.

This was my second stay. Last time, I stayed during a snowy season, so this time I was able to relax until dinner and fully enjoy the sight of green trees swaying and the gentle calls of evening cicadas from my clean, refined Room. The meals here are delicious both in the morning and in the evening, with plenty of vegetables. Of course, the fish and meat were also excellent—everything was flawless. Above all, the staff’s smiles were wonderful, and their service was attentive and professional, which made me feel truly happy. I will definitely come back to stay again when I have time. This was our eighth stay. Ever since our first visit, the Room, the private bath, and the surroundings of the Hotel have been very comfortable, and the meals are delicious. We stay about once a year, and it has become something my wife and I truly look forward to. This time as well, the food was excellent—especially the Chateaubriand, which was outstanding. Although it was rainy and we didn’t go to Mount Koya this time, we were able to see exceptionally beautiful flowering peach trees and weeping cherry blossoms around Sanso Amanosato.

I visited for the first time in January. When I arrived at the Accommodation, I was immediately captivated by the magnificent Nishikigoi in the large aquarium at the front. On the way to my Room on the second floor, I was amazed by the massive stone arrangements and found myself wondering just how much weight this building was designed to withstand. I was then shown to a Room called “Waterwheel.” The Room featured an impressive waterwheel set into the wall, and I was simply mesmerized by its exceptionally elaborate design. Even the sink in the washbasin area was lined with agate—an extraordinary touch that made me unable to help but wonder (pardon my curiosity) how much it must have cost to build this Accommodation. Of course, the garden is also wonderful. The hot spring water had a gentle sulfur scent and felt very pleasant on the skin. Meals were served in-room for both breakfast and dinner, and everything tasted excellent. Every staff member was attentive, allowing me to spend my time comfortably. I chose this place based on Reviews, and it more than lived up to them—I would love to return in a different season.

From the warm welcome to check-in, breakfast, and check-out, the service was truly pleasant at every moment. They even kept our stay history from four years ago, and I was genuinely impressed when they asked, “Would you like the same morning newspaper as last time?”—such thoughtful attention to detail. I also asked for photos many times, and every staff member kindly took them without hesitation. And the breakfast—what you expect from Brighton—was absolutely delicious and very satisfying! I understand renovations will be starting soon, and I’m truly looking forward to staying again at the newly refreshed Brighton Hotel.

Among several options, we visited this Accommodation for the first time in March after many people strongly recommended it, and it was the first time in a while that we felt completely satisfied in every respect. From the courteous and accurate communication during the Reservation process to the atmosphere, use of space, staff professionalism, and cuisine—everything met our expectations. With a Facility of this caliber, I wasn’t particularly worried about the food, and I had already seen the interior on the website so I assumed there would be no surprises—but in the end, what matters most is “people.” With group stays, requests often cause inconvenience and there are usually one or two small oversights on the day; here, everything was perfect. For that reason, this time we stayed as individuals. We returned both to confirm our impressions and to be moved all over again. The entrance—still fresh in my memory as a favorite—is spacious and serene. It harmonizes cutting-edge design with traditional charm despite being at opposite ends of the spectrum. Personally, it may be my favorite part. Our Room this time was more compact than last time but more than sufficient for one night. The open-air bath is well screened yet spacious and easy to use. The private dining room felt almost too large for two people. The timing of each course and the staff’s warm smiles made for an exceptionally comfortable meal that we truly enjoyed. Overall, what left a lasting impression is how well this Accommodation balances new and old—along with genuine warmth from its people and employees who approach their work with sincerity—all coming together in rare harmony. Newer Accommodations with a full resort feel are wonderful in their own way, but as an Onsen inn, this is a place I can recommend as distinctly Japanese—where timeless tradition blends beautifully with modern comfort. Thank you again for taking such great care of us. We are truly grateful for a restorative stay that healed both body and mind. Thank you very much.

We stayed as a family of three. This time, we chose this Accommodation for my husband’s birthday trip, and the thoughtful care from all the staff was truly wonderful, making it a trip we will always remember. They prepared a bed for our newborn daughter and showed such attentive consideration during meals as well, so we felt at ease throughout our stay. They also arranged a surprise dessert plate for my husband, and even gave us a heartfelt gift to take home when we left—we were deeply moved. Thanks to you, it became an unforgettable birthday for him. In the Room, we enjoyed watching movies at our leisure with the projector—something we don’t often get to experience—and we were also able to spend luxurious time in the open-air bath. We are sincerely grateful that we could spend such an irreplaceable time together as a family of three in such a lovely Room. We would love to visit again in another season. We had a wonderful time during our 3-day, 2-night stay. It was our first time trying the barrel sauna, a Weber BBQ, and a campfire, but thanks to your thoughtful support, we were able to enjoy everything safely and comfortably even with a small child. The views from the garden and the Room were beautiful, and the interior was spacious, clean, and very relaxing. The pesticide-free vegetables were also delicious. Next time, we will visit with our whole family.

Portom International Hokkaido truly lives up to the phrase “just like an art museum.” From the moment you step inside, you’ll be captivated by its gorgeous, sophisticated interiors. In the evening, we enjoyed Akkeshi whisky and expertly crafted cocktails at the wonderful bar, making for a blissful time. Breakfast was equally exceptional—every dish felt first-class and delicious—allowing us to forget everyday life and fully savor a truly extraordinary stay. It’s a place we’d love to visit again on a special occasion.

We stayed as a family of four. It was the perfect place to relax. Both the historic building and the garden were wonderful, but what stayed with us most was the warm hospitality we received. The large public bath is available from early morning, and we enjoyed multiple baths, making our stay truly fulfilling.

We made a Reservation to celebrate his birthday. I had requested a message plate in advance for our meal, and I was also delighted to find lovely towel art prepared in our room. The spacious, spotless room, the relaxing pool, and the delicious food—everything was perfect. After the trip, both of us agreed that “this time, the Hotel stay was the best,” making it a truly wonderful stay. Thank you for smoothly accommodating changes to the Shuttle Service schedule and arranging taxis for us. It has become a place we would definitely love to visit again.

My spouse and I stayed on June 19. The building was old, but it was well maintained, and the courtyard after the rain in the morning was lovely. All of the meals were delicious, and we both finished everything. The staff were also very pleasant. We were able to visit Amanohashidate, which we had wanted to see for a long time, and fully enjoy Kyoto by the Sea. Thank you very much.
