We stayed as a family with our 18-month-old child. The staff were incredibly considerate toward our child, and we were able to spend our time comfortably without any issues. From the entrance, there was a gentle scent of incense, and the bath also had a soothing woody aroma—this was a wonderful Accommodation that truly put us at ease. Thank you very much.

I stayed with my wife's mother, making a group of three. It was an excellent property where only one group can stay per day at a restaurant converted from a 200-year-old samurai residence. The dinner was luxurious and delicious, and the president personally came to greet us. After the meal, the chef also came to greet us and shared some stories, making it an impressive dinner. The male staff on the first day and the female staff on the next day were both polite, well-mannered, and knowledgeable, making our stay at the property very pleasant. If there is an opportunity, I would like to stay again. Thank you very much.

This was my first time staying at a temple Accommodation, and it was comfortable with no inconveniences. The vegan meals were also very delicious (especially the sesame tofu). The Room was warm even in winter, and the bath warmed me up well; the changing area was warm too (I would appreciate signage for international guests asking them not to bring hair or towels into the bath). The morning service was easy to join, not too long, and never boring. Being shown the Buddha’s relics left a strong impression on me and made me feel the history. It would be even better if there were an opportunity to try zazen meditation.

We thoroughly enjoyed delicious local mountain vegetables and river fish, paired with sake that complemented them perfectly. It was an Accommodation where we could truly feel time slow down, and one we would love to visit again in a different season.

The house was very clean and spacious, allowing 8 of us to stay comfortably without feeling cramped! The staff were wonderful and kindly provided detailed explanations and information about the surrounding area. I would definitely stay here again if I visit the area in the future!

A magnificent traditional Japanese house standing quietly in a hilly area. It seems to have opened recently, and with no Reviews at all, we made our Reservation based on the photos and description on the booking site. The result: absolutely the right choice! It brought back memories for the first time in decades of visiting a relative’s beautiful old home when I was a child. Spacious, spotless, and so much fun—we adults found ourselves walking around the Accommodation again and again. All Facilities, including the bathroom areas and appliances, are completely up to date. The price is unbelievably reasonable, so I honestly wasn’t expecting much in terms of amenities (sorry!), but everything is provided—you don’t need to bring anything. We also gratefully enjoyed the water, breakfast bread, and coffee. If the weather is nice, I highly recommend having a barbecue in the garden. There’s also a supermarket nearby. Basically it’s self-service. However, since everything you need is there, I think this is an ideal Accommodation for anyone who wants to do things at their own pace. By the way, it was online check-in so we didn’t get to meet them, but we heard it’s run by a couple. Their warm personality really came through in our email exchanges beforehand—I would have loved to meet them in person—so that’s my only regret. It isn’t an easy trip from Kanto, but it’s a wonderful place I’d love to visit again someday. Finally, I’m sorry this Review is so late.

Thank you for hosting us during the Obon holiday period in 2026. - Since the Accommodation is a member of the onsen association, you can use the public bath (Hakoyu) about a 2–3 minute walk away for half price (350 yen). If you like public baths, you may feel there’s no need for an in-house bath. There is also a shared shower at the Accommodation (Reservation required at the front desk). - There is paid parking about a 5-minute walk away for 500 yen per night. Even if you stay at a large Hotel, it’s common to have parking that’s a similar walking distance, so I didn’t find it inconvenient that this Accommodation doesn’t have on-site parking. It was 500 yen per day, and the parking attendant told me it’s the same price through the next morning after your stay, which I appreciated. - The interior seems to have been renovated in recent years—simple, clean, and well kept. Compared with what I expected from the name “shukubo” and the price, it was very comfortable and I’d like to stay again. - The second-floor triple Room had a nice view of the park and Shuzenji Temple from the window, with good airflow as well. - It’s best to pack light; the stairs are steep and narrow. - Soundproofing is limited. Being considerate of noise feels important to avoid issues. It may not suit guests who want to be lively in their Room late into the night. At normal hours with normal conversation volume, I wasn’t particularly bothered by voices from neighboring Rooms. I hope this helps.

We stayed here recently to coincide with my elderly mother’s visit back home. The Accommodation was very clean, and we were able to spend our time comfortably and pleasantly. We had made a Reservation for a Plan without dinner, but my mother was tired from the long journey and found it difficult to go out to eat. When we were unsure what to do, the owners kindly prepared dinner for us. Their flexible and thoughtful support truly helped us. Breakfast the next morning was also delicious, and we enjoyed it while having a pleasant chat with the owners. When we return home again, we would definitely like to stay here. Thank you very much.

This was my first time staying at a guesthouse, and the Room was truly clean, spotless, and spacious—very comfortable. It was much cleaner than some mediocre Hotels. Above all, I really appreciated being able to use the bath 24 hours a day (Reservation required for 1-hour slots). I could relax and bathe both in the evening and in the morning. The bath was of course very clean as well. There are three toilets (?) and two sinks. The owner is friendly, easygoing, kind, and happy to chat. I enjoyed our conversation over breakfast. When I stayed there happened to be no other guests, but if you eat in the living room it seems like it would be easy to interact with other guests. A few things to note: there aren’t any dinner places nearby, so if you plan to go out to eat you should be prepared to take a taxi. Also, since it faces a main road, you can hear traffic noise fairly often—something to keep in mind if you’re sensitive (it didn’t bother me and I slept fine). For breakfast, I heard there’s a bakery nearby, but if you prefer Japanese-style breakfast you’ll need to prepare your own. There’s a 24-hour supermarket close by, so for a Multiple Night Stay it might be nice to cook for yourself. The kitchen has basic equipment such as a simple stove. Overall, because it’s so clean and the Room is spacious, it may actually be more comfortable than a Hotel in some ways—and very reasonably priced. Next time I’d definitely like to stay for multiple nights. Thank you very much!

First of all, the location was excellent, close to the teahouse district. It was also just a short distance from other spots such as Omicho Market, making sightseeing very easy. The Room had everything we needed, and having an Onsen with a stone bath made it perfect. Breakfast was a very delicious Japanese set meal. The staff were kind and attentive. Free drinks, plus complimentary laundry and parking, made it exceptionally well equipped in every way. This is an Accommodation I would gladly stay at again when visiting Kanazawa.

I stayed at the end of February. There was a courtyard inside the room, allowing me to experience the atmosphere of Kyoto while staying indoors, which was a special experience. This time it was a short stay, but next time I would like to take my time and enjoy it more.

I stayed with my sister at this accommodation. The hotel is a special space where you can feel attention to detail throughout the premises, allowing us to enjoy an extraordinary time away from the noise of the city despite being in the heart of it. My sister and I often travel together, but we felt our time together was especially meaningful here, which we believe is due to the charm of this hotel. After check-in, we spent happy hour at the bar, discussed our plans for the next day on the rooftop after dinner, and used the open-air bath before breakfast. Although there was no TV in our room, it encouraged more conversation and made us cherish our time together even more than usual. Breakfast featured a healthy menu centered around salads. What left a particularly strong impression during our stay was the smiles of all staff members. We also appreciated their friendly conversations when leaving or returning to the accommodation.

I love traditional Japanese houses and had been looking forward to this stay for a long time, and it turned out to be an outstanding Accommodation that far exceeded my expectations. As soon as we arrived, the hostess warmly welcomed us and carefully explained every detail of the property, which made me happy from the very start. The view from the Room—overlooking the Kamo River and pine trees—was truly charming, and I felt deeply relaxed, losing track of time. Each dish was delicious, one after another, and it was a constant delight. The location was also very convenient, so we were able to spend our time in complete comfort without any inconvenience. This has become my favorite Accommodation, and I will definitely stay again. Thank you for such a wonderful time.

Both dinner and breakfast were delicious. There are no nearby houses, and although we had heard that muntjac sometimes damage the fields, we enjoyed a salad made with freshly picked lettuce and herbs from those very fields. I was hoping to see a muntjac. The bamboo grove behind the property was beautiful.

The Room’s greatest highlight is the ocean view from the bath inside the guest room. In many places, the bathroom and Room are separate, but being able to step straight into the bath within the Room felt truly special and gave a wonderful sense of escape. There is also an outdoor sauna, making this stay feel far more unique than most other Facility options. Honestly, I didn’t expect that much at first, but having “my own private sauna” was even better than I imagined and left me feeling deeply refreshed in both body and mind. One small thing to note: because the sauna is outdoors, you need to pass across the balcony briefly. At that moment, you may occasionally make eye contact with people walking along the seaside, so it’s worth being a little mindful. Another personal favorite was the selection of books in the Room. It seems to vary by Room, which adds a small pleasure—wondering what kind of books will be there this time. There are no meals provided, but the extra-paid curry in the refrigerator was much better than expected and very satisfying. You can also purchase coffee beans and enjoy taking time to grind them and brew coffee—something I don’t usually do. Staying here wasn’t just about spending a night; it was time to engage thoughtfully with everyday acts like sleeping and eating. Because of its simple space, it naturally made me reflect on life itself—and what happiness means. It truly felt like a special place.

If you're visiting Kyoto and prefer staying at a Ryokan instead of a Hotel, you might want to consider an even more luxurious experience at this Accommodation. Upon arrival, you'll be awed by the grand gate of Kinkakuji Temple. Walking through the wooden door and along the gravel path in the front garden feels like stepping into another world, far removed from everyday life. In addition to clean, modern Japanese-style rooms with new facilities akin to those of a high-end Ryokan, you can enjoy exclusive access to a beautiful garden surrounded by nature. Although it's called "Shukubo," it is open to everyone and allows for casual participation in comfortable attire. The resident monk and his wife are incredibly friendly as well. This Accommodation offers an affordable yet luxurious experience comparable to that of high-end Ryokans. Memorable activities include making bracelets with natural stones, enjoying Shojin Ryori (traditional Buddhist vegetarian breakfast), and participating in morning prayers—all adding up to an unforgettable stay.
