Since around February this year, I’ve stayed here whenever I visit Kita-Karuizawa for work, and I’ve already returned for more than 10 nights. It’s a long-loved pension, so the building shows its age, but it’s kept very clean. Surrounded by beautiful trees, it feels like an especially perfect location in the coming season. The biggest highlight is the food. Even after staying many times, I can’t recall ever being served the same menu. The owner couple seem to thoughtfully create new dishes each time for repeat guests like me, and I truly appreciate their care. Not only do I look forward to every meal, but chatting with them after dinner has also become a wonderful travel memory. It’s located in Tsumagoi Village, but if you’re traveling to Karuizawa or Kusatsu Onsen, I highly recommend going a little further and staying at Motown. A pension I can wholeheartedly recommend!

A free gondola ticket was included, and although it was only operating in the morning, we managed to catch it just in time (we couldn't see the outside scenery due to rain and fog). I think it would be pleasant if it were sunny. I intended to just complete the check-in process, but they kindly allowed us into the Room quite early, which was very helpful! That alone lifted my spirits. During the check-in process, we were offered tea and a hand towel. The food might have mixed reviews, but it's similar to what you find at any Club Med. They cut dragon fruit for us and served it generously, making me feel like I was abroad. Unfortunately, the beer server closest to our table was broken.

Booked a great-value room at the last minute. There is an Onsen, free tea in the lobby, and all the staff were very helpful. They also introduced us to the stone-paved streets of Ochiai, which made our trip very fulfilling. Thank you.

About 10 years ago, I stayed here when it was operating as a “weekly apartment,” and this time was my first stay in quite a while. While feeling nostalgic, I also had an extremely comfortable stay. ■ Outstanding hospitality Most impressive of all was the service from the female front desk staff member. Her explanations were very thorough, and she made check-in feel refreshing from the start. Although I work in customer service in a different industry, her attentive care and demeanor were so wonderful that I genuinely felt, “I want to learn from this.” ■ Cleanliness The Room was meticulously cleaned throughout—no dustiness and no unpleasant odors at all—spotlessly clean. The unit bath and toilet (no bidet seat installed) do feel dated as Facility features, but they are polished so well that it more than makes up for their age. Given Yamagata’s many excellent Onsen facilities nearby, if you plan to enjoy bathing outside, it’s not an issue at all. ■ Dining and location It was a little disappointing that the kitchen that used to be available is now unusable, but there are plenty of restaurants in the area. In particular, “Sakaeya Honten,” famous for hiyashi ramen (cold ramen), is right across the street—an unbeatable location! You won’t have any trouble finding somewhere to eat. ■ Advice for future guests Check-in hours are relatively tight (15:00–18:00). I recommend planning your schedule with plenty of buffer time. (They seem able to accommodate flexibly if you contact them in advance, but arriving early is safest.) I felt this is a very trustworthy Accommodation where older facilities are more than compensated for by careful cleaning and warm service. I would gladly stay again when visiting Yamagata.

It was very clean and comfortable. I could really feel the attention to detail and thoughtfulness in the amenities. The number locks at the entrance to the Accommodation building and on the Room door were a bit of a hassle, but they make sense from a security standpoint. There were only a few guests, so it felt almost like having the place to ourselves and we could use it spaciously. At night in the BAR (shared living room), I had a short chat with the owner at the counter. If there had been more guests, I think I could have enjoyed even more interaction. Just note that meals are not provided. How you use the dining/drinking space (shared living room) is up to you. It isn’t cheap for private Room use, but it was an Accommodation I felt was well worth it—and I was very satisfied.

Five of us stayed here while walking the Nakasendo from Tokyo Nihonbashi. We washed our clothes in the washing machine and enjoyed nicely chilled drinks. Since it was during extreme heat, the thoughtful care for our tired bodies truly meant a lot. The basic seasonings were all provided. We couldn’t find a supermarket nearby, so we ate out at nearby restaurants, but with a larger group it would be fun to cook for ourselves. It’s right by the station, so access was excellent. The Room was spacious, and the next morning we all watched the FIFA World Cup final together on a large screen. It was so comfortable it felt like home, and I accidentally left my mobile battery pack behind while it was charging. When I called, they promptly mailed it back to my home. I’m sorry for the trouble. I’d love to stay again when I have the chance.

As it’s a new Hotel, everything is spotless. I have lower back pain, but the mattress firmness was perfectly comfortable. The Room key uses a PIN code system, so I recommend taking a photo of the number you receive at check-in on your phone—it will be useful later. At the bar counter there were Black Nikka, Kurokirishima, Nanawarai, and more, so I had a glass of Kurokirishima. I think it’s a good idea to buy cup ice and soda water as well. There didn’t seem to be any restaurants within walking distance; however, there is a drugstore and a supermarket across the street. The only disappointment was that at 6:40 there was an extremely long line for breakfast! We were told we could take it back to the Room to eat, but due to my son’s event we gave up waiting and checked out. That’s why I deducted one star. I would like to stay again if I have the opportunity.

I stayed here during my visit to the Expo. The staff were very friendly and provided excellent service. The large public bath was a great relief after a tiring day of walking. However, the changing room was crowded, possibly due to peak hours, and I couldn't use the hairdryer. The breakfast was delicious. Conveniently located with good transportation access, this Hotel is highly recommended.

I had a very comfortable stay! Both the property and the Room felt clean overall, and it seemed well maintained down to the smallest details. Above all, I really appreciated the sense of privacy that let me relax without worrying about others. This time I stayed in Room C, and with its high ceiling it felt open and more spacious than it actually is. With its calm atmosphere, I think it’s perfect for anyone who wants to take things slow and unwind. The amenities included all the essentials, so there was nothing I found myself missing, and I was able to stay comfortably. Personally, I also liked that there weren’t too many unnecessary items. The location is great as well—you can enjoy exploring Niigata city while still having a quiet place to relax at the Accommodation. Overall, it was a Hotel where I felt truly at ease and would love to stay again. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a relaxing stay or who values privacy!

This was my second stay. This time, I chose the plan with breakfast included. There was a wide variety of options, and I left feeling very full. It was delicious!

I stayed at this accommodation during a solo ski trip. Accommodations near the slopes during the season often avoid single guests or charge higher rates, but the price here was very reasonable, and the meals were excellent. I personally appreciated that dinner featured hot pot dishes with fewer fried items. The futon was fluffy and clean. This is an accommodation I would love to stay at again.

I was looking for an affordable hotel close to the venue to support my child's match. After reviewing the details, I decided to make a Reservation because of the appealing services such as organic amenities, a large public bath, breakfast buffet, and a selection of pillows. Upon arrival, I was greeted by the scent of aromatic herbs at the entrance, and the front desk staff provided excellent service. This Hotel is highly recommended for women due to its secure women's public bath area, which ensures peace of mind during use. If I recall correctly, the showerheads were Refa brand. It’s a comfortable place even for women traveling alone.

It was a stylish and photogenic accommodation. The room, shower room, washbasin, and toilet were all very clean and comfortable. I would love to stay here again.

The staff welcomed us so warmly, and even when we were leaving, they took such great care of us that we didn’t want to go home! We decided to add breakfast at the last minute, and it was wonderful—having breakfast in the courtyard was amazing, and everything tasted fantastic. The view is beautiful and the Hotel is very clean, so I think you can truly relax and enjoy a peaceful stay. Also, when we called the taxi company you recommended, we were lucky to get a kind driver who told us about lots of sightseeing spots—it was great! Even when we forgot something, a staff member ran outside to help us, and thanks to them our trip stayed wonderful right until the end. It was so lovely that words can’t really do it justice—so please just try staying here! We’ll definitely come again! Just one last thing: I’d be very happy if the hair dryer had a stronger airflow.

I hadn’t stayed at hostels very often, but I can truly recommend this one as a safe and comfortable place to stay. Because of the typhoon, the trains for the next day were canceled. When we were in trouble and panicking, they kindly worried about us, looked up transportation options, and suggested alternatives—they really went out of their way to help. Thank you very much. The Facility included a proper kitchen where it seemed you could cook and eat anything you like, and there was also a bar counter—at night it felt like you could chat over drinks with the Accommodation staff. We didn’t try it ourselves, but it seemed they offer a healthy breakfast made with freshly picked vegetables. The Room only has a shower (no bathtub), but the design includes a small seat, which made it easy to use. It was an Accommodation that would be a waste to stay at for just one day. If you’re planning a slightly longer stay, definitely consider it. Also, it sounds like the Accommodation staff plan various events to entertain guests, so I’d love to visit again on another occasion.

Stayed at the accommodation after a long time. The quality of the room, the garden view from the window—everything was truly wonderful. The location is also excellent. Additionally, it felt like the service has improved significantly compared to before. I was able to relax and enjoy my stay. I was delighted to receive a stollen for Christmas as well. This was a return visit because when I stayed last November, I thought, “I’d like to come back in a different season.” As it was the rainy season, I couldn’t see Mt. Fuji at all—though it should have looked magnificent—but it turned out to be the perfect opportunity to relax indoors at the Facility. Since I arrived a little before check-in time, I contacted you hoping to leave my luggage only, and you kindly agreed. When I arrived, being greeted with “Welcome back!” was a wonderful start to the warm hospitality. Last time, I left several comments on things I hoped could be improved if possible, and every single one had been addressed—this thoughtfulness impressed me even more. Breakfast was changed from last time; the main dish was Saikyo miso–marinated rainbow trout, and it was so delicious that it made me want more rice. I’d love to visit again in another season as well—partly because I want to try yet another breakfast option.

I was able to spend a luxurious time enjoying the view of the Kamo River from the stylish living room. The underfloor heating was also included, making it very comfortable. I also appreciated being able to adjust the lighting. At night, I dimmed the lights for a more relaxing atmosphere. The ambiance of the Japanese-Western style bedroom was nice, and I slept soundly. The owner kindly explained everything and had a wonderful personality. This time I stayed for only one night, but next time I would love to stay for a Multiple Night Stay!

The cleanliness was impressive and I was very satisfied. I would have been even more satisfied if there were amenities like coffee and pajamas, but the owner was very kind, so I was extremely pleased. It is quite spacious, so it is recommended for use by large groups.

In the heart of Higashi Chaya District, this Accommodation lets you stay as if living in a Kanazawa machiya townhouse, and it remains one of the most memorable Hotels I have ever stayed in. As soon as you step inside, the gentle scent of wood fills the air and naturally calms you. While preserving the charm of an old machiya, the interior has been refined into a modern, sophisticated space, and my stay was comfortable from start to finish. The passage garden leading from the entrance to the living room reinterprets a traditional machiya layout as a contemporary art gallery, creating a distinctive atmosphere from the moment you arrive. With part of one living-room wall opened up, it retains that classic machiya serenity while adding just the right sense of openness. On the first floor, warmth from natural wood is balanced beautifully with a palette of brown, white, cream, and black. Everything—from pendant lights to furniture and small details—has been carefully chosen for a cohesive look that shows great taste down to every corner. The table in particular stood out: its texture evoked Noto washi paper and kurikawa-zome (chestnut husk dyeing), and it felt like local culture and craftsmanship were seamlessly woven into the space. The bath and wash area are modern and spotless in crisp black-and-white tones, and even the scent of Aesop hand soap and bath amenities was wonderfully soothing. Upstairs retains even more of the original wooden character of a machiya, offering a different kind of quiet calm. The bedroom lighting—soft like moonlight—was especially memorable and perfectly suited to the mood. Another unique highlight is being able to whisk matcha in your room. The tea kettle, bowls, and other tools are thoughtfully selected; using vessels that reflect Kanazawa- and Noto-area traditional crafts made preparing matcha yourself feel truly special. With clear instructions provided, it’s easy to enjoy even for first-timers. Unlike having tea at a tourist spot, making matcha in this quiet machiya setting felt deeply relaxing. Open the windows and you can sense both the stillness of this teahouse district and hints of local daily life beyond it. Rather than simply visiting as a tourist, being able to blend into the neighborhood is an experience that’s hard to find at an ordinary Hotel. Breakfast was at Miso Soup Club just a short walk away; I enjoyed a nourishing Japanese breakfast with hearty miso soup packed with ingredients along with egg over rice (tamago kake gohan) and small side dishes. This is an Accommodation I would highly recommend for anyone who wants to savor Kanazawa’s culture, craftsmanship—and unhurried quiet time—with care.
