It was the best meal I’ve had in a long time. I ordered the eel set meal, and every dish—from the appetizer to the final course—was delicious and exceeded my expectations. The daily set meal was also outstanding, with each dish prepared personally by the chef. The quality rivaled Michelin-starred restaurants, and even the tableware showed great taste.

We stayed here two days after the memorable grand opening. The Facility, amenities, and meals were all high quality, and we were very satisfied. As it was right after opening, there were a few moments when the staff seemed slightly inexperienced, but we received heartfelt hospitality that more than made up for it, and it became a wonderful memory for our whole family.

[From Check-in to the Room] We arrived by car and were warmly welcomed. After check-in, we were escorted to our Room while enjoying tea and sweets. [Attractions] We chose one of the two activities and whisked matcha ourselves, then enjoyed tea on the Sky Corridor for a perfect digital detox. There was also a surprise arranged by my wife and the staff for me, which truly moved me—thank you so much. [Dinner] As the title suggests, the meal featured carefully selected ingredients gathered along the Tokaido route and a strong focus on water quality. We’ve enjoyed excellent cuisine at many places (Sekaie, Miwa, Karaku, Mayufutahari, Honbako, Hoshino Resorts, etc.), but this surpassed them all. From the dashi to rice served multiple ways with different textures and aromas, everything delighted all five senses—and our conversation with the staff made time fly by. Personally, I especially loved the rare bonito cutlet and Tajima-Gen beef shabu-shabu with chilled chawanmushi. [Breakfast] It began with wake-up tea. We had two kinds of dried fish (including horse mackerel), both outstanding. As with dinner, rice cooked in a clay pot was excellent—not only as white rice but also as crispy scorched rice enjoyed in hot water (“kogashi-yu”), which was a new discovery for us. Personally, I especially enjoyed the dried fish and simmered vegetables. [Room] A functional Room with thoughtful touches such as aroma oil for stone warming and three types of tea. Since it’s designed for digital detoxing there is no TV. We relaxed slowly in the semi-open-air bath in our Room. [Service] Everyone provided exceptional service—from those who helped arrange our surprise from Reservation through arrival day, to those who whisked matcha together with us as beginners; from dinner service by someone who shared my wife’s name to breakfast staff who kindly accommodated an unexpected request. Each moment became a lasting memory. [Overall] We will definitely return—next time in autumn or spring would be ideal. With such comfortable hospitality from everyone here, this Accommodation is deeply soothing and easy to recommend. Since it has only recently opened up: personally speaking it would be nice to have insect screens on the outer windows by the semi-open-air bath; also given how much care goes into tea and ingredients it might be great to have a small space where guests can buy souvenirs such as tea leaves teaware or dried fish as keepsakes.

I made my first Reservation at this Hotel because a friend staying with me wanted to bring their dog. The owner and his wife were very friendly and easy to talk to. The Room had a standard unit bath, but the large stone communal bath was spacious and very relaxing. The best part here is the food. Both dinner and breakfast were delicious, and we left completely full. It’s a Hotel I’d visit just for the meals. I’d definitely like to stay again.

I couldn’t forget how moved I was when I visited 30 years ago, so I came back this time. I worried that many things might have changed, but what has been carefully preserved over the years and what has been thoughtfully improved have come together in harmony, making this stay an even more precious memory than before. The food was excellent, the Room furnishings were wonderful, and the spring water felt gentle on the skin. The bath size was just right—not too big or too small—and with only five parties accepted, we could truly relax as guests. Calmly put, that’s how it felt. If I add a bit of personal feeling: first of all, the cuisine is outstanding. Many guests must come back in every season just to eat here. It’s rare to feel so full and still not want to leave a single bite—this made me realize that truly delicious food somehow still goes down. Tomato hot pot, char grilled on magnolia leaf (yamame trout), chilled peach soup, chicken meatball hot pot, Japanese pepper rice, and more…every item on the menu was creative and impeccably tasteful, with superb seasoning throughout. From the sweets served on arrival onward, everything is handmade; hearing that five parties per day is their limit honestly earned my deepest respect. That spirit of hospitality—never sparing time or effort—can be felt everywhere inside the Ryokan, and it reminded me that the very essence of this Accommodation that captivated my mother and me 30 years ago continues unchanged. Another thing they have protected without changing is the mineral spring bath. At first I was confused because the shower flow was weak and lukewarm, but there was a proper rinsing area with hair-washing amenities set out; thinking “why not,” I moved there and washed my hair using buckets of water for rinsing. I could rinse thoroughly, and my hair became smooth and moisturized. It made me smile at how “washing with a shower” had become my default assumption—and at the same time it was fun to imagine different ways to use the bath space as a guest. Both the open-air bath and indoor bath were so comfortable I wanted to stay in forever. There’s much more charm—like the beautiful valley view from the window—that I can’t fully capture here, but this is a beloved landmark Ryokan that I hope will remain for many years to come.

We visited as a couple and stayed in a Room for two with a private bath. The view from the bath was amazing—we were able to see a sea of clouds, which was the highlight of our stay. If I had to wish for something, it would be for the window to open wider. At first, it seemed like there weren’t many staff members, but every time we passed someone, they greeted us warmly. The Accommodation was quiet, and we could also enjoy complimentary drinks on the balcony, which was wonderful. The road getting there was quite tough, so it felt like an accomplishment! It was such a warm Accommodation—they even checked in with us about the weather.

I had the pleasure of revisiting the enchanting Sasayuri-an. After an unforgettable experience at "Kozuno," this time I stayed in another building, "Zao." About a month ago, I was fortunate to connect with Sasayuri-an and was deeply touched by the warmth of the owners. Since then, I eagerly anticipated my return. My expectations were high due to my previous wonderful stay, but this visit exceeded them in every way. The moment we stepped inside, everyone let out a gasp of awe—it felt like stepping into another world. This 150-year-old traditional thatched-roof house is a perfect blend of historical beauty and modern comfort, truly a hidden gem. The stunning terraced rice fields visible through the windows and the star-filled night sky created an extraordinary atmosphere. The space is both majestic and refined yet evokes a nostalgic sense of comfort. Above all, the exceptional hospitality from the owners provided deep relaxation. The owner's passion for detail is evident everywhere—from beams relocated from a 400-year-old structure to speakers once used by Ryuichi Sakamoto—making every conversation with him fascinating and inspiring. Despite visiting in February's cold weather, thoughtful touches like fireplaces, discreetly placed air conditioners that preserve aesthetic harmony, and oil heaters along hallways ensured warmth throughout this spacious accommodation. The owner also practices as a Yamabushi (mountain ascetic) alongside managing his business. During our stay, we had rare opportunities to experience waterfall meditation and fire rituals under his guidance while enjoying stories about Shugendo around an irori hearth—a truly memorable experience! Evenings were spent chatting by irori flames or soaking in herbal baths within cypress tubs to unwind completely; mornings began with delicious coffee paired with breathtaking views of Japan’s timeless rural landscape—a blissful retreat indeed. Sasayuri-an offers an unparalleled escape from urban chaos where both mind and body can rejuvenate fully—a genuinely special place worth cherishing forever! Although we rarely revisit accommodations multiple times ourselves here feels different; it’s somewhere precious enough always wanting return alongside loved ones again someday soon! With facilities such as pizza ovens BBQ setups campfire areas ready springtime glamping plans already excite us looking forward next visit ahead!

I made a reservation as a birthday gift for my beloved. Wanting him to refresh from daily fatigue in the countryside, we enjoyed the perfect space and time. The place was clean, calming, and comfortable even though it was our first visit. The indoor charcoal grill experience was fantastic. Ingredients were well-prepared and easy to use, with the option to bring additional items for cooking—meals were truly satisfying. At night, we enjoyed drinks together, had deeper conversations than usual, and spent an incredibly fulfilling time. We definitely want to come back here together again!

I made a Reservation for “Uchiko no Yado Kokoro” and traveled there, but the building was apparently under renovation and, without any prior notice, my stay was changed to “Uchiko no Yado Kura.” I stayed at “Kura” last year, and this time I came all the way from Kobe to Uchiko specifically to stay at “Kokoro.” If I had been informed in advance, I would have changed my plans for Kochi and Kagawa afterward. This Accommodation does not offer meals, and several nearby restaurants put up “Private” signs—probably prioritizing local residents—which made things extremely inconvenient for travelers. Even when seats were available, I was bluntly turned away with “Someone will be coming soon.” It may have been because it was a weekend. I won’t be returning to Uchiko.

Everything was excellent.

A hideaway-like rental villa nestled in the forest, the chic yet comfortable space was very pleasant. The sauna heated up well, allowing us to relax while enjoying the forest view during the outdoor air bath. The bath is home-sized. As it is unmanned, there are no particular services, but the pre-arrival email guidance was very clear, allowing us to enjoy a comfortable stay without any inconvenience. I would love to stay again next year!

We stayed as a group of 6 adults. First of all, the owner was very kind and considerate, even before our stay. Thank you so much! The plan included breakfast, which featured delicious items like bread, roast beef, fruits, and Hakone rusk provided in the room. The portions were generous and we were very satisfied. The bath was spacious, the room was clean, and we had an extremely comfortable stay. The sauna was also great! It would be nice if the issue with BS channels not being available and the difficulty in figuring out how to fill the bath could be improved, but other than that everything was perfect. It’s a wonderful place!

Stayed for 2 nights and 3 days at the end of July 2025. Surrounded by lemon groves and located near the seaside, it was a perfect spot to relax. The optional sea kayaking experience was enjoyable even for beginners, thanks to the kind guidance provided, and our children were thrilled. For meals, we had a barbecue on the first day and ordered a gourmet box on the second day, which included fresh vegetables and wild boar meat—absolutely delicious! We also enjoyed the sauna and campfire, making it a wonderful summer vacation!

With just the right level of attentiveness and quick responses to our needs, we had a very comfortable stay. While many pet-friendly Facility use resin floor tiles, this one features solid oak flooring, creating a wonderfully relaxing space—and together with the feeling of staying in a natural forest, it was simply perfect. The dinner prepared by the owner was delicious, and they even let us take any leftovers to go, which made us very happy. We would love to stay here again!

We often stay in this type of villa because we’re a big family and we have a dog, and this place was the best. It’s a spacious single-story villa with a large garden, a fire pit, a sauna, and a clean, relaxing bath. The BBQ came with great-quality meat from a yakiniku restaurant, and the breakfast bread was from a proper bakery. It’s right in front of Lake Biwa. I’ll skip the small details, but everything was thoughtfully provided—we had no complaints at all. We felt truly refreshed.

There is a swallow’s nest above the entrance, and when you step inside, a wide earthen-floored space opens up in front of you. Although it’s a traditional Japanese house, it has been renovated in a modern style, with an up-to-date kitchen, refrigerator, and other appliances lined up in the earthen-floored area. When you open the Room door from there, you enter an irori hearth and tatami Room. It’s very spacious—almost too large for just two people. Air conditioning is installed everywhere except on the second floor above the bath area, so it stays comfortable even in summer. The Room also has games and play equipment such as shogi pieces, ring toss, a frisbee, and badminton. There is also a garden large enough to play badminton in. At night we enjoyed fireworks and even a bonfire despite it being summer; when we looked up, we could see the starry sky and the Milky Way. There is no light pollution. Meals were not included on the first day; on the second day, staff carefully grilled vegetables and meat over the irori hearth for us. The meat slowly grilled over charcoal was incredibly delicious. The staff were very kind—they prepared our meal and explained the background of this traditional house—and we truly felt their hospitality. We were able to savor the happiness of simply spending time at ease. Next time I’d love to return from autumn into winter!

We were truly impressed by the breathtaking views that let us fully enjoy Lake Kawaguchi, the sauna and open-air bath, the campfire, the teppanyaki grill table, drink-inclusive service, and more than ample Facilities/amenities—above all, by the heartfelt hospitality of the staff. We would love to stay again.

A very warm family-run accommodation! The host, his wife, and their children were very friendly and approachable, leaving a great impression. Additionally, the bread baked by the wife was exceptional, making for a wonderfully tasteful breakfast. It was such a pleasant accommodation that I would love to stay here again if given the chance.
