I stayed here solo just before the Obon holidays. The detached Room was very spacious, and I really enjoyed the Onsen a lot! I didn’t use the stairs connecting the scenic-view bath to the open-air bath because they felt a bit unstable, and it was scary being able to see below. Dinner had many dishes, and I ate until I was full. It was delicious, so I finished everything. The breakfast basket was adorable. I ate a lot as well—thank you for the wonderful meal. I was very satisfied because I could stay for just over 40,000 yen as a solo traveler! I always brew and drink rooibos tea, so having a Daiohs water dispenser was really appreciated! For future improvement: as others have mentioned, it would be great if the glass windows in the scenic-view bath were kept cleaner so you can enjoy the view more. Also, the door leading from the scenic-view bath out to the wood deck seemed to fit quite poorly. If staying at full price, I feel maintenance should be improved a bit more. It’s a small thing, but having some local drinks in the refrigerator would add a special touch, so it might be worth considering. That said, despite all my comments, I’d definitely like to visit again. Thank you!

Black mineral bath after a long time This was my fifth visit. The black water is stronger at the day-use spa than at the Hotel, so I went there first—but has it been getting lighter year by year? The first time I bathed, there was sediment built up and it felt like soaking in mud. The smell was like a rotten ditch. I got hooked and came back many times, but… does it feel more diluted now? The smell was still incredibly strong, though. But that’s fine. Because I love it.

This was an Accommodation I had long wanted to stay at. The staff were kind and attentive, and the view of Lake Shikotsu from the room was wonderful. The Onsen water quality was excellent and kept me warm. Thank you for taking such good care of me.

All the staff were incredibly kind, and it was a warm, welcoming place. You can take a walk to Muruku Beach, and it’s also conveniently located for driving to sightseeing spots such as Kahou Banta. The time spent gazing at the ocean from the Room was wonderful. There are only stairs, but the staff carried all of our luggage, which was a great help. I will definitely stay here again when visiting Okinawa. Thank you very much.

The Western-style room was spacious, and the bed was comfortable. There was a wide variety of dinner options, making it easy to choose. The Shinshu salmon was delicious. The soft-serve ice cream machine was self-serve, and the ice cream was rich and tasty. I’d like to visit again during the autumn foliage season.

Unfortunately, due to cloudy and rainy weather, we couldn’t see the starry sky, but we’re already thinking about when to come back for another try. There was a warm, homey atmosphere among guests as well—people asked questions and helped each other out. The drink corner was a great idea, but even after trying many times, no ice came out, and there were a few things that were unclear. An elderly guest seemed troubled because the coffee wouldn’t stop dispensing. I think it would be helpful to post easy-to-understand instructions. At mealtimes, the staff serving us were all foreigners, but they were very polite. Their Japanese was quite limited at times so we didn’t always understand what they said, but we could generally guess from the context and had no issues. One thing that stood out compared with other hotels I’ve stayed at: since it’s a quiet Hotel I thought this might be normal here, but I was surprised that none of the staff said “good morning” to guests in the morning. When my husband passed by the front desk he greeted them first; they may not have heard him, but they were chatting among themselves and didn’t greet guests even as people walked right in front of them. In contrast, the foreign staff in the restaurant—even with limited Japanese—did say “good morning.” Also, the Onsen was wonderful, but there is no fan in the changing room. Having one would help guests cool down more easily and might reduce crowding there. The large public bath and open-air bath are very comfortable and warm you up well. The green view from the open-air bath—and in the morning, clouds or mist drifting over the mountains—felt truly unique. The meals were a good portion size and showed creativity within their price range. Dinner offered an enjoyable mix of Japanese- and Western-style dishes with plenty of variety. Breakfast was buffet-style with many options including both Western and Japanese items as well as desserts; everyone seemed to be enjoying it. The highland area is beautiful—it feels like it could even become a villa resort area someday. We also visited Relaxia Forest next to the Hotel (apparently used as a movie filming location). It’s a lovely forest where we could enjoy forest bathing too. There don’t seem to be any other Hotels around this area, so we’d like to stay again.

I stayed one night on 8/23 with breakfast included. The men’s bath has a spacious indoor bath, and the open-air bath is designed to feel very open, with the outside scenery visible up close. The sulfur scent enhances the Onsen atmosphere, and it’s such pleasant water that you’ll want to soak again and again. At around 1,500 m elevation, it stays very cool in summer and is comfortable to spend time here. I’d like to visit again in a different season. It seems that Shogi title matches have been held here many times as well, so Shogi fans might enjoy that too.

This was my first stay. The atmosphere was warm and homey, and all the staff welcomed us with bright smiles. The Facility is a bit old, but it is well maintained and spotlessly clean. The meals featured locally sourced ingredients, were beautifully presented, and absolutely delicious. The Onsen warmed me through to the core and left my skin glowing. I soaked in it many times. I felt refreshed for the first time in a while. I’m happy to have found an Accommodation I’d love to stay at again. Thank you very much.

When visiting Utsukushigahara and Matsumoto Castle for the first time, we chose Miyamaso mainly because it had the best room rate. Since it was so reasonably priced, we were a little worried at first... But after staying there, it was great!! The meals were especially good. There was more than enough food, and everything was delicious!! Next year we’d like to visit Kamikochi, and we’re hoping to stay here again.

Thank you very much for everything. The space was wonderful, and the meals were so delicious that I was truly moved. Since we originally planned to visit Ghibli Park on the second day, we stayed with dinner included and no breakfast. The entire place felt as if it connected to Ghibli Park—the garden, ornaments, furnishings, and even Baron!? in the dining room all resonated deeply with me. I will definitely come again to enjoy breakfast. Thank you very much.

We stayed here for our daughter’s 3rd birthday trip. Our main plan was Yunessun, but perhaps because we told them in advance that it was a birthday trip, the staff prepared a handwritten birthday card and even a birthday plate at dinner—our daughter was so happy! There was also a kids’ space, which helped us make good use of our time, and the baths were very relaxing. During the rock-paper-scissors event, all the staff crouched down to her height to talk with her, which meant a lot to us. There was such a wide variety of food that we couldn’t finish everything. The facilities were clean and well maintained. We’re glad we made such wonderful memories! There were many other families around, so even if our child cried or got fussy, it felt normal and we didn’t have to worry too much. We’d love to come again!

I made a Reservation for my family’s stay. They said the breakfast was delicious, there was soft-serve ice cream, and the Room was comfortable.

Thanks to booking through IKYU, we received several perks, which we truly appreciated. The pool is all-weather, so we could play safely without worrying about sunburn or rain. While the Facility shows some age, it is a wonderful piece of architecture and has been carefully maintained, allowing us to stay comfortably. Through the activities, we were able to see our children full of energy—an ideal setting for a family trip.

We stayed for 2 nights and 3 days. Overall, it was comfortable. The bath on the 7th floor had a fairly lukewarm tub, which was great because soaking in it after the hotter tub let us enjoy a longer time without overheating. On the other hand, the bath on the 1st floor has only four washing stations. While there are multiple tubs, most are so small that they barely fit one or two people, so I wouldn’t really recommend it unless you visit on a quiet day or specifically want to try several small baths. Meals (both breakfast and dinner) changed between the first and second night, so even with a Multiple Night Stay we didn’t get bored. You can enjoy many different dishes in small portions, and there’s also a special, creative feel to them. Everything was tasty, but not so impressive that it’s worth setting your expectations too high. The fish dishes were average; the meat dishes were very good. It was also nice that you can order Fukushima sake and other drinks for an additional fee. All staff were warm and welcoming. The Room was clean and spacious, and the bed was comfortable. We could see nature through large windows, and the amenities/Facility were well equipped: a large desk with a sturdy chair, a powerful hair dryer, a full-length mirror (stand mirror), tea and coffee, etc. However, it was disappointing that the desk drawer hit the chair armrests making it hard to pull up close to the desk, and that the light on the stand mirror had dead batteries. Since we stayed during Obon season there were many families with children, so it may not suit those looking for a quiet adults-only atmosphere. Also, since it said “no cleaning unless requested” for Multiple Night Stay guests we didn’t ask for anything—but staff still entered our Room to replace amenities without warning us first. This part of their guidance is unclear. There are hardly any shops nearby such as convenience stores, so it’s not ideal if you plan to sightsee only in the immediate area. It seems better suited either for going out toward the station area or for relaxing at this Accommodation. We didn’t use it ourselves, but they also appear to offer a free Shuttle Service bus to another affiliated Onsen.

The Japanese-Western style room was spacious and perfect for relaxing as a family. The buffet menu changed slightly each night, and the local vegetables were especially delicious, making every meal both tasty and enjoyable. Lunch was an additional charge, but we appreciated it as well. The pool isn’t very large, but there were plenty of inflatable rings and kickboards, and locker keys and swim caps were lent to guests free of charge. It was open for long hours (7:00–21:00), which was great—we went to the pool whenever we had some free time as a family. Perhaps because swim caps are required, there wasn’t any hair floating around, and it felt very clean. There was also more than enough to do—Mölkky on the lawn, sledding, exploring the observation deck via the lift—and our child looked so happy. Table tennis was fun too! We enjoyed the Dinosaur Museum, Eiheiji Temple, and Tojinbo as well, but the Hotel itself was excellent. We’d love to visit again as a family. If I had one request: our child always sends postcards to grandparents while traveling, so it would be nice if the shop had more Fukui postcards available and if stamps could be purchased at the front desk.

This Accommodation offers heartfelt hospitality throughout—and you even get to stay in a rare, registered cultural property building. As you step through the entrance, you’re welcomed by a traditional architectural space with a high-ceilinged hall and the gentle smolder of firewood in the irori hearth. The cuisine is prepared with great care, with no shortcuts. There are three Onsen baths, with fresh spring water welling up directly into them, and separate time slots for men and women so you can relax at your own pace. We chose a Plan without an in-room toilet or bath, but it was a wonderful Room filled with the soothing sound of the river. Thank you very much.

All of the meals were delicious. The Room had a wonderful view of the mountains and nature, which was very refreshing. All of the staff were kind and welcoming. The Room was thoroughly cleaned and very comfortable. The Onsen was great, but the changing area was hot because the air conditioning wasn’t working well. To get to the large public bath you need to go down a few stairs, so it would be nice if an elevator could take you right to the entrance. The welcome-drink coffee in the lobby was very tasty, but I would be even happier if it were free. The honey apple vinegar in front of the restaurant was freely available and very delicious. The ropeway is right in front of the Hotel, and there is also a Lawson convenience store and souvenir shops nearby, which made it very convenient. The hot spring water was excellent and offered great value for money—overall, it was a truly wonderful Hotel. Thank you very much!

I stayed here with my daughter on a trip to Yamaguchi. We drove from Shin-Shimonoseki to the Ryokan by rental car. Right after arriving, we enjoyed the footbath, then the granite bath. After a walk around, we returned to the Ryokan for the open-air bath. After dinner, we used the bath in our Room. In the morning, we went to the hinoki-wood bath. After breakfast, we used the Room bath again. We really enjoyed all the Onsen. It may just have been how I felt, but when I woke up in the morning my fingers weren’t stiff like usual—maybe it was an Onsen effect. The food was delicious, the riverside scenery was beautiful, and there were few tourists, so it felt like a hidden gem. The staff at this Ryokan were also very welcoming and made it feel homey. The building showed its age, but that gave it character. The only disappointment was that the air conditioner in our Room didn’t cool well and it was uncomfortable. Maybe it’s an older unit? Also, there was a musty smell in the Room (different from sulfur) that bothered me. Still, I’d like to visit again if I have another chance, and if friends ask me for recommendations for a good Onsen getaway, this is an Accommodation I’d suggest.

My second stay, following last winter. Last time I came by car. After sightseeing at Owakudani and other spots, I followed the navigation system and didn’t really know where it was, but this time I used the mountain railway and was surprised to find it was very close to Sounzan Station. Even on the walk from the station, I felt welcomed by a pleasant breeze and birdsong, and arrived at the Accommodation in great spirits. The attendant who looked after us was the same as last year. Their cheerful manner and excellent timing in serving meals were unchanged. The Room and shared areas were just as spotless as before—not a speck of dust—making everything feel wonderfully refreshing. The open-air bath assigned to each Room is located a short distance away, and ours was excellent again this time. With cuckoos calling more beautifully around this season, I could truly relax in both sound and hot water. The meals were delicious as before: a soup with pike conger eel (hamo) and junsai; seasonal ingredients like Manganji peppers with superb seasoning; gourd “kaminari-boshi,” which I hadn’t tasted in ages; plus breakfast highlights such as the vegetable salad and dressing, perfectly grilled salted salmon (both seasoning and doneness), and fresh yuba served at just the right moment. An Accommodation I’d love to return to for its hospitality.

The complimentary drinks in the lobby lounge, the Room, the Onsen, the parking service, and access to the shopping mall were all excellent.
