We have stayed with our dog at many luxury hotels in Japan and abroad, and this was honestly one of the very best—easily competing for No.1 or No.2. If I were to compare it overseas, it’s hard to say which is better: this or the Manor at Capella Singapore. It was a truly outstanding detached villa suite that stands shoulder to shoulder with the world’s top luxury hotels. We stayed for two nights from 9/20 with three family members and our dog. Because a typhoon was approaching, we arrived early, but the staff handled everything politely and smoothly and kindly escorted us to our room about two hours earlier than usual. Before our stay, I read every review on Ikkyu, and it felt like many of the past concerns had been addressed. I was also impressed by how sincerely you seem to take guest feedback. Since this two-night stay cost around JPY 1,000,000, I was slightly worried about whether it would truly feel worth the price—but the sense of exclusivity in the detached villa (No.100) exceeded all expectations. A dedicated parking space, an approximately 300 m² private dog run, a two-story/two-bedroom layout, in-room dining available only for this villa, complimentary champagne and drinks in the refrigerator, private dining rooms when using the restaurant—every detail felt thoughtfully elevated in a way that made perfect sense. The meals were especially exceptional—clearly a step above any hotel we’ve stayed at before. The matsutake course and clay-pot rice were superb, and on our second night you prepared an entirely different menu from the first. To truly experience RETONA at its best (ideally in this villa suite), I strongly recommend staying at least two nights. (I’m sure other rooms are wonderful as well.) It became an unforgettable three days worthy of my daughter’s 12th birthday and our dog’s 6th birthday. We are deeply grateful to all staff members for your warm hospitality—including your attentive email communication even before arrival. If I may mention just one small point: there was a spider web on the ceiling above the sink area. We fully understand that insects are common given the natural surroundings—and it was minor enough for us to remove ourselves—but checking higher areas as well would make everything even more perfect. Next time we will definitely return as a family to stay in the same room again—perhaps in spring or summer—to enjoy seasonal dishes in another time of year. This has become one of my favorite luxury hotels; thank you very much for everything.

Thank you for your hospitality the other day. Your attentive service was outstanding, and we were completely satisfied in every way. This is an Accommodation we would love to stay at again. The in-room Onsen was also excellent.

We stayed with a family of four and one Maltipoo. The spacious hinoki bath was incredibly relaxing, and we were able to enjoy it together as a family. The bathroom and other water areas were also very clean and well maintained, making them comfortable to use. Perhaps thanks to the air purifier, there was no noticeable odor even with our dog, and the well-equipped trash bins made it easy to keep things sanitary. We felt reassured staying here with our pet. Both the kaiseki dinner and the breakfast bento were delicious—we were very satisfied. Being able to eat slowly in the Room was wonderful, and it gave us more time for great family conversation. Although it’s conveniently located near a main road with supermarkets and convenience stores close by, it was very quiet at night, which made for a calm stay. It truly felt like being at home, and our whole family could relax comfortably. When we visit Kyoto again, we would love to stay here again. Thank you for such a wonderful time.

I stayed with my Chi-poo. The Room was clean, and it was great to have a private open-air bath. It would have been perfect if we could dine in the restaurant together with our dog. The on-site dog run is covered with wood chips, which is a thoughtful, dog-friendly touch. The staff were pleasant, and it was a wonderful Accommodation. At check-out, we also received a discount voucher for our next stay, which makes it easy to return.

This was our second stay, following last year. Spacious and comfortable—our 7- and 5-year-old kids were thrilled and kept saying, “This place is the best!” Last year breakfast was Japanese-style, but this time it was Western-style, which seemed easier for the kids to enjoy.

We checked in after doing some shopping at a nearby AEON. The Accommodation had everything we needed for cooking, including a pot and even a small hot plate, so it was easy to prepare meals (though you’ll need to bring your own seasonings). Complimentary drinks were also stocked in the refrigerator. Since it was our child’s birthday, we projected a birthday video with the projector and celebrated—it was a huge hit. The third-floor bath was spacious, and the Onsen water made it incredibly relaxing. The first-floor sauna was low-temperature, so my husband found it a bit mild, but I enjoyed taking my time and felt very satisfied. There was also a table on the balcony where we could relax, so we had breakfast there. Overall, everything was very clean, and having a washing machine was really helpful—everything about our stay was great. It’s an Accommodation we’d love to visit again.

I made a last-minute Reservation the night before and stayed here. The Room had dog amenities, and there was also a trash bin for dog waste in the shared area outside the entrance, which was very helpful. The private bath while looking out at the greenery was also incredibly relaxing. Every meal was delicious, and there was more than enough food even for someone with a big appetite like me—I was very satisfied! I worry that my dog might bark if left alone in the Room, but I could bring my dog along to meals and the bath, so I felt at ease throughout my stay. Thank you for such a comfortable stay from check-in to check-out.

This was our first time staying here as a couple. We truly felt that the mountain village scenery and the clear stream flowing nearby are all part of what makes this wonderful inn so special. The French cuisine, expertly served right in front of us by the chef, was outstanding and deeply impressive. Thank you for giving us such wonderful memories in Nishimera Village.

Our family of four stayed in the Black Ship Suite for two nights and three days. We found this room last year and had been wanting to stay ever since. It was spacious and very clean, and outside the window was the black ship (the Susquehanna). It truly was an amazing space! Because we stayed two nights, we spent the entire second day in the room, enjoying the open-air bath, hinoki bath (cold plunge), and sauna all day long. We cooled down on the reclining chairs in the large changing area, relaxed in the massage chair, and lounged on the Yogibo—each of us was able to enjoy a wonderfully luxurious time. It was also great that amenities included CHANEL, Dior, Shu Uemura, and more. We were happy that on the second day they replenished not only bath towels but also mineral water, beer and juice in the refrigerator, plus different snacks and sweets from day one. The meals offered a wide variety of dishes with beautiful presentation; everything was delicious. The menus were completely different over the two days (with different ingredients as well), and we could really feel the chef’s thoughtfulness. All of the staff were kind and courteous, and we felt their hospitality came from the heart. Everyone’s smiles were wonderful. After breakfast on our third day, as we were leaving the restaurant they said to us, “Thank you for staying with us for two days,” which surprised us—and made us feel grateful as well. The hotel itself has a Showa-era retro feel to it due to its age, but it became a place we definitely want to return to. (It’s a shame I couldn’t upload photos for some reason.)

We arrived in the evening and chose the plan with two meals included. The only convenience store within walking distance is a Lawson about 10–15 minutes away. Since you have to cross a national highway at night, it feels far. We were glad we added meals. The carefully prepared dishes were unique both to look at and to taste, and we really enjoyed them. I definitely recommend adding meals. We went early in the morning to Ritsuunkyo, came back for breakfast, rested in our Room, and then hiked up Takeda Castle; being able to take breaks along the way was great. This is a recommended Accommodation. Since it is an old traditional house Hotel, I would not recommend it to those who cannot enjoy an older building or who expect perfect Facilities.

This was our first trip with our pet. They loved the private dog run and didn’t want to come back into the Room. It became a truly memorable trip for us.

Although the villas are connected in a row of three and ours was on the end, it was very quiet and we couldn’t hear any noise from next door at all. It’s a two-story villa, with two beds prepared in each of the two bedrooms. Since we were co-sleeping, a larger pet bed was also provided. Each room had its own sink and closet, and there was also a toilet on the second floor, so we were able to relax and take our time. Staying at Forest Villa during the Halloween season has become our family’s annual tradition! This is the most reasonably priced option compared to any other site. We haven’t used it yet, but there’s also a discount available through hometown tax donations (Furusato Nozei), so we’d like to try that someday. We look forward to staying again next year! This Silver Week, we hadn’t planned to travel, but our family days off lined up again, so we hurriedly searched—without high expectations—for a pet-friendly Hotel… A room opened up at Alpenblick, so we made a Reservation. Since we’d never stayed in a trailer house before, we were pretty anxious… But it was incredibly clean, with no noise from neighboring rooms and plenty of space inside! We could park our own car right next to it, which was very convenient. It really felt like having a secret hideout, and the whole family loved it. Highly recommended!!

This year, the heavy rain that continued from the Obon holidays was really tough. It was the day of the Ichinomiya Festival, but along the coast it suddenly cleared up, so we were able to take a relaxing stroll around a newly opened mall nearby and a roll cake shop. Thank you again for this year.

Stayed in a cottage with dinner and breakfast included. The cottage was spacious and very relaxing. I initially worried that relying on the Shuttle Service to the restaurant and Onsen Facility might feel restrictive, but it was completely stress-free. Whenever we needed anything, they picked us up in about five minutes, which actually added to the sense of luxury. The staff provided top-tier service throughout, including in the restaurant. Room service was also available, and anything we needed was delivered promptly. When Wi-Fi didn’t connect, they quickly brought a pocket Wi-Fi. The lamb BBQ course dinner featured exceptionally tender meat with a great variety of cuts. The food—both dinner and breakfast—was outstanding in quality and flavor, far beyond expectations. The drink selection was excellent as well; I especially enjoyed being able to try local wines. As it’s attached to a prestigious golf course, the buildings—including the clubhouse—are beautifully appointed and worth appreciating from an architectural perspective too. The biggest pleasant surprise was that the Onsen is free-flowing natural spring water with no added water—it truly warmed me through. There’s also a proper sauna. If it hadn’t been such heavy rain, I would have loved to take a walk through the woods. I also wish I could have tried feeding logs into the stove (not possible in summer). Those are my only regrets.

We stayed at Kinugawa Onsen “Kizuna” from July 31 to August 2, 2026 (2 nights/3 days). We checked in with two adults, one child, and two Chihuahuas. I thought I had made a Reservation for a Room without an open-air bath, but due to what seemed to be a communication issue, we were instead shown to a Room with an open-air bath (a lucky surprise). Having an open-air bath in the Room meant we could enjoy the Onsen anytime, day or night, and our whole family had a truly happy time. For every meal (breakfast and dinner), we were able to dine in a private room (rather than the usual shared dining area). The menu changed each time, so we looked forward to every meal and headed there excitedly. Each dish was refined and absolutely delicious. With drinks as well, we felt completely satisfied after every meal. By chance, the Nikko Fireworks Festival was held on Saturday, August 8, and we were able to enjoy spectacular fireworks from our Room as well (another lucky moment). Above all else, what made our stay so comfortable was the attentive service from the manager and staff members—and their genuine hospitality in accommodating guests’ requests. That level of professionalism seemed to fill the entire Ryokan, allowing guests to relax completely and enjoy an exceptional experience. For three days, we fully enjoyed an extraordinary getaway both physically and mentally. It may sound childish, but it was such a wonderful Ryokan that I didn’t want to leave—I wanted to stay forever. Everyone in our family kept saying “Let’s come again,” so we will definitely return. My heartfelt thanks go out to everyone who took care of us at “Kizuna.” Thank you very much for everything.

We stayed for 2 nights and 3 days with 7 adults and one small dog. With toilets on both the first and second floors, even our elderly family members were able to stay comfortably. The property was well maintained overall and very clean, and the kitchen—especially the sink area—was particularly convenient to use. Tsuruya Miyota Store is a 4-minute drive away; by avoiding the peak crowds during a three-day weekend, we went grocery shopping easily and cooked dinner ourselves on both nights. While it’s a bit away from central Karuizawa, more new and lovely shops have been opening nearby, so we think it’s a great area to relax at a slower pace while avoiding traffic. Cooking is done on an electric IH cooktop, but as it gets colder in the coming season, it would be nice to have a tabletop cassette stove and hot pot set available. It was a wonderful dog-friendly place that we’d love to visit again!

On our first trip to Hokkaido, we stayed here as a family. We were placed in the main building, which made it easy to get to the baths and dining area, and our 86-year-old grandmother was especially delighted. The meals were outstanding, featuring plenty of ingredients from Biei—far more delicious and distinctive than a typical hotel buffet. In particular, the potato soup, whole grilled carrots, and rich soft-serve ice cream were unforgettable. We had a wonderful time together as a family. When we visit Hokkaido again, we would love to stay here again. Thank you for your warm hospitality.

Our first glamping experience. We went as a family of four. We stayed in a villa. We arrived late due to traffic, but the staff kindly helped us with chopping firewood. The BBQ was completely hassle-free, and the staff even explained the starry sky to us—it was an incredibly well-cared-for 2-day, 1-night stay! We’d love to come again.

Excellent service, excellent meals, and excellent baths & sauna. This was our first trip with our dog, and we made wonderful memories. We’d like to come again in summer. It was an outstanding Accommodation.
