Dinner was enjoyed at the neighboring Hanamusubi, and we also used their baths in the evening, including both Kin-no-Yu and Gin-no-Yu. It was delightful to experience both types of hot springs in a single visit. Since it was just a short walk from Kotori, moving to Hanamusubi's main building was not inconvenient at all. The food was very delicious. Breakfast was served at Kotori, and we also used the private bath there. Despite the rain, we had a relaxing time until departure without any inconvenience. The tofu hot pot for breakfast was excellent. We would love to visit again!

We took a 3-night, 4-day trip to Oita with our 4-year-old daughter and stayed here in Yufuin on the final night. Since we had spent the previous two nights at a large Hotel in Beppu, we chose this place because we wanted to relax somewhere quiet in Yufuin. Each guest room is set apart like a separate annex, and the nostalgic atmosphere—like visiting a countryside grandparent’s home—was wonderfully calming. For our daughter, everything felt new and exciting since she doesn’t have things like shoji screens, sliding doors, or a kotatsu at home, and she really enjoyed it. The meals were beautifully presented and delicious, and the baths were not crowded, so we could fully enjoy the spacious open-air bath at our own pace. It was also great that even though it’s in such a convenient location with easy access to Yunotsubo Kaido just a short walk along the river, we could still stay in peace and quiet. I’m glad we were able to end our Oita trip at this Accommodation—it became a wonderful memory for us.

The Asama Onsen district spreads across the eastern part of Matsumoto City, climbing up the foothill slope. The Accommodation is built on the hillside, and the road in front of the entrance is only one lane wide. After leaving your luggage at the Accommodation, you move to the parking area via a narrow alley-like passage about 2 meters wide. If you have a larger car, it seems better to enter from another wider road, park there first, and then carry your luggage. This is an old Accommodation; the furniture and fittings are also old but of good quality, carefully maintained, and immaculately cleaned. The hospitality feels heartfelt; while some younger staff may seem a little awkward, they are poised and dignified. You can sense the refined quality of a prestigious Accommodation. The Room—created by combining two rooms into one—has well-chosen furniture and furnishings. It is calming and comfortable. In the in-room bath, hot natural spring water flows directly from the source; unless you truly love very hot baths, you will want to add cold water to adjust it. For smaller guests, it is deep enough to soak up to your shoulders and long enough to stretch out your legs. Opening the large window facing the garden lets in wonderfully refreshing air. The large public bath and private bath are spacious with a comfortable temperature. The lockers are solid as well. A table adapted from a lacquered low dining table is paired with chairs that are easy to sit on. The dishes brought to your Room one after another at just the right timing are genuine gourmet cuisine—anticipation and satisfaction continue throughout. Allergy accommodations and requests regarding disliked ingredients were handled perfectly. Interestingly—and elegantly—the menu does not list the head chef’s name. There is a separate bedroom with very comfortable beds. It is quiet.

Thank you very much for taking such great care of us during our stay. It was our first trip to Shikoku, and it became a truly memorable journey. The warm welcome at check-in helped us relax after sightseeing in the heat. We really appreciated the drink service in the lobby. The Onsen was clean and very pleasant. The meals were delicious, and we strongly felt we want to eat them again—especially the dashi (shabu-shabu), which was outstanding! The Room was a good size, but we noticed a slight odor in the Room. We weren’t sure what it was—possibly alcohol or something from the Facility—but that part was disappointing. Thank you for your heartfelt service. There’s no doubt many more guests will continue to visit Shikishimakan—it’s a wonderful Accommodation!

Room We made a Reservation for a Japanese-style Room with a toilet. The Room was spacious, very clean, and comfortable. They provided two layered futon mattresses, so we slept well. Meals There was a wide variety of dishes, and everything was delicious. The flounder sashimi was especially impressive. Children There was a ball pit in the Room, and we could choose DVDs from many options such as Anpanman, Studio Ghibli, and Disney. We were also able to borrow various items such as toys, bath toys, bath soap for children, a bath chair for children, and an indoor low chair—everything was excellent.

I was able to get away from everyday life and truly enjoy my stay. The duck hot pot at dinner had a comforting broth, the rice was delicious, and the local sake Hanatomoe was easy to drink and paired perfectly with the meal. And the water is wonderful—I believe you mentioned that you use spring water from underground. We enjoyed so many blessings from the mountains and river and finished everything. Thank you for the feast. The Dorogawa Onsen bath was also soothing and relaxing. Thank you for everyone’s warm hospitality and thoughtful care.

Booked a great-value room at the last minute. There is an Onsen, free tea in the lobby, and all the staff were very helpful. They also introduced us to the stone-paved streets of Ochiai, which made our trip very fulfilling. Thank you.

I visited with my 22-year-old daughter. We chose this place because we heard the Onsen water is silky and good for your skin. The Accommodation is old, but it is kept very clean. All the staff were friendly, and a cat welcomed us. My daughter has a cat allergy, but she had no symptoms. We didn’t have high expectations for the meals, but the hell-steamed vegetables and fish were very delicious, and we were completely satisfied with every dish. Breakfast was also healthy and felt detoxifying. The Hells of Beppu tour spots and Okamotoya pudding shop are also nearby by bus. We also recommend the pizza and apple pie at a café called Apple near the Accommodation. We’ve been talking about coming again together.

We stayed at “Konpira Machiya Maru” with three adults and one dog (medium-sized). This is a fully renovated, entire-home rental Accommodation, and everything—from the building itself to the Facility, amenities, and supplies—exceeded our expectations. The beds were very comfortable, and everyone said they slept soundly. The location is about a 1-minute walk from both JR Kotohira Station and Kotoden Kotohira Station, making it an ideal base for visiting Konpira Shrine. We traveled by car (HiAce Long), and the parking area is adjacent to the Accommodation with plenty of space even for a large vehicle. We only interacted with the staff at check-in, but they were polite and warmly welcoming without being intrusive. It was a wonderful Accommodation that I would confidently recommend to friends—and I will definitely be returning.

We stayed for one night with No Meals Included just after the Obon holiday season. The location is almost in the center of the Onsen town, right next to Ichino-yu, making it perfect for visiting the public baths and strolling around town. Our Room was on the 3rd floor facing the Onsen street, with two beds. Some details felt a bit dated, but overall it was clean and pleasant. You can clearly hear the sound of people’s geta outside, but I found it atmospheric and didn’t mind much. During summer vacation in Kinosaki Onsen, fireworks are launched from 21:00, and it was wonderful to be able to see them from our window. There are two indoor baths: the left one is quite lukewarm and may be good for soaking for a long time. The right one is a bit hotter and also has a cold bath, which I really appreciated! Since Kinosaki’s public baths don’t have cold baths, this was especially welcome for me. The water also pours like a waterfall from a lion-shaped spout (maybe), so you can let it hit your stiff shoulders like a water massage. For parking, the Ryokan’s information points to nearby paid parking lots, but there is also a municipal lot very close by that is cheaper at JPY 1,000 for 12 hours. However, when we arrived there was a waitlist line up, so we used “Kinosaki Motor Pool” listed in their guidance (JPY 1,700). The municipal lot is cheaper and allows longer stays, but if you take your car out during your stay you’ll be charged again each time—so if you plan to drive out for shopping or similar errands, Kinosaki Motor Pool may be more convenient. The young proprietress was very friendly and charming (according to my wife), and we enjoyed chatting with her. One small disappointment was that the air conditioner in our Room didn’t seem well cleaned—the airflow smelled slightly musty and there was visible dirt around the vent. A different Accommodation we stayed at last year had a dirty air conditioner too; maybe places where each Room has its own unit tend to struggle with keeping up with cleaning? Also, I didn’t notice while we were using toilets at the public baths during our outings—but when I used our toilet the next morning, the washlet function wasn’t working properly. Overall we were very satisfied, and we’d like to stay here again when we visit Kinosaki next time.

The Room was clean and well kept. Above all, dinner was outstanding. Freshly prepared dishes—such as sashimi of Seki horse mackerel and steak—were served at just the right time. The timing was perfect. This time we chose the in-room dining Plan, and thanks to the thoughtful service from the staff, it was a wonderful one-night stay.

We stayed in both the West and East rooms as a three-generation family. The historic building has been renovated with modern facilities, making it very comfortable. Thanks to the detailed guidance provided the day before, we were able to arrive without any worries. This was especially helpful as there is a parking lot just before the entrance, which can be tricky to find due to the busy pathway filled with people. My parents, who are nearly 80 years old, used handrails for going up and down the stairs but mentioned they had a comfortable stay. The staff were all very kind and accommodating; they helped us by making a reservation at "Bone-in Chicken Tanaka" for dinner upon request and provided information about taking a taxi to Daimon when we expressed concerns about my parents' mobility. Thanks to their support, my parents could visit Hongu Shrine while we made it all the way to Okunoin Temple—a truly memorable experience!

We were warmly welcomed even though we informed them of our late arrival. The room was spacious, bright, and had a clean atmosphere. Futons are self-service, so you set them up yourself. The TV is slightly small but sufficient for basic needs. The bath is not very large, but considering the number of rooms, it feels almost like a private Onsen experience—perfect for Onsen lovers! Amenities are well-prepared, making the stay very comfortable. However, one minor issue was the lingering smell on the haori likely worn by someone who smoked; if that were resolved, it would be perfect! I would definitely stay here again when visiting Sakata!

The staff’s thoughtful attention to detail is wonderful! The Facility seems to be a renovated historic building, and we had a very comfortable stay. The private family bath had amenities such as lotion, which was a big help since we had used ours up while visiting different Onsen. We were able to relax and enjoy it at the end of our Onsen-hopping. The rice cooked in an individual pot at breakfast is absolutely delicious. Highly recommended.

My first time in Kurokawa Onsen. We stayed at Shinmeikan, famous for its cave bath. We drove there with a rental car, and on the way I was honestly surprised by how narrow the road was—like, “Is it really okay to go this way?” But that’s part of what makes Kurokawa Onsen feel special. Most of the staff are from overseas, but everyone was friendly and their Japanese was truly excellent. Even those who were a bit hesitant communicated their sincerity, and it made me want to cheer them on. Both dinner and breakfast were absolutely delicious. The entire building and our Room struck a great balance—keeping the charm of its age while updating what needed to be updated—so it was very comfortable. As for the baths, we managed to try all five: the famous cave bath, Iwato Bath, Kaze-no-Yu, Kajika-no-Yu, and an indoor bath. Each one had a completely different atmosphere, so we felt fully satisfied without needing to go Onsen-hopping at other Ryokan. The women’s cave bath is quite long, and it’s amazing to think this was actually dug out. I’d always wanted to visit Kurokawa Onsen, and staying at Shinmeikan left me truly satisfied—it became a wonderful memory.

We stayed this time with our dog. Both the property and the Room were very clean, and we also appreciated that it was a pet-friendly, fully flat Room. We were happy that free drinks, snacks, and bread were available in the lounge as well. The private open-air bath was spacious enough too! Just one thing: we thought meals would be served in the Room, but they were served in a private dining room. We happened to bring a pet cart, so our dog had a place to wait, but if we hadn’t brought one, there wouldn’t have been space for our dogs to wait during the meal, so we thought it would be nice if you offered cart rentals. Overall, it was a wonderful Accommodation to stay at with our dog!

I’ve been making regular Reservations at this beloved Accommodation for about 10 years now. They always welcome me warmly, and the atmosphere is homey and incredibly comfortable. The Accommodation is also clean and well maintained. On top of that, the proprietress and the head chef are both wonderful people. The Onsen uses pure natural spring water, so the quality is excellent—it warms you to the core and leaves your skin feeling soft and moisturized. And above all, the food is simply outstanding. Each dish is brought out freshly prepared, so everything is served hot. You can really feel the care in every detail—beautifully presented with refined flavors. Everything is delicious, but I was especially amazed by the breakfast miso soup. Personally, it was the best I’ve ever had! In every way, satisfaction here is consistently high—an Accommodation that makes you want to come back right away. I’ll be making another Reservation soon. Please take good care of yourselves—I’m looking forward to seeing you again next time.

This was my first stay, and it was simply wonderful. The Accommodation is old, but the amenities and Facility are well equipped. Having a cold-water pitcher in addition to the tea set was especially helpful. Being able to quickly drink cold water after the Onsen felt great. They also offer a free aroma diffuser rental, and I slept very well with the relaxing scent. The Room was more than spacious enough for just my husband and me, and it was spotless and clean. The staff were also very pleasant—nothing to complain about! Because it was during summer vacation season, the breakfast buffet was extremely crowded and a bit tiring, but aside from that everything was excellent, and it became an Accommodation I definitely want to stay at again. After my stay, I accidentally left something behind in the Room. Thank you for your kind help when I called—it arrived safely. I’m sorry for the trouble. Next time, I’d love to return with No Meals Included. Highly recommended. There are so many good points that I can’t write them all here, but I definitely want to visit again—thank you in advance when that time comes.

Thank you very much for kindly accommodating our request to change the number of guests after the Reservation, as well as our meal preferences. Both dinner and breakfast featured carefully selected, delicious dishes in just the right portions, and were of very high quality. The baths are small with only an indoor bath and an outdoor bath, but the water quality was even better than the day-use Onsen at a famous Hotel in Gero that I visited before check-in. Above all, the staff’s hospitality was outstanding. From check-in onward, they provided clear guidance about the property, were considerate toward my elderly mother, and at check-out they gave accurate answers when we asked about nearby sightseeing spots—truly excellent service. Thanks to this, this Accommodation left us with a wonderful impression. When we come to Gero again, we would definitely like to stay here again. Thank you very much.

The villa was more spacious and cleaner than we expected—almost too luxurious for just the two of us. The large open-air bath outside was wonderfully relaxing, and we enjoyed the Onsen while feeling close to nature, soaking many times. Mt. Yufu looked beautiful right in front of us, and the indoor Onsen bath was also great. We only had breakfast, but it was prepared in the refrigerator, so we could eat at whatever time we liked in the kitchen, and it was delicious. We’d love to stay again in a different season.
