The food was absolutely delicious. We were also very satisfied that the private Onsen bath was available 24 hours a day. The hostess kindly told us about nearby sightseeing spots, which made our trip even more enjoyable. We would love to visit again with my husband.

I chose “Garrya Nijo Castle Kyoto by Banyan Tree” as my Accommodation when visiting the Gion Matsuri (Saki Matsuri). I live in Nishinomiya, so it’s close enough for a day trip, but since it was the Gion Festival, I decided to stay overnight. After considering several options, I finally chose Garrya, which I’d been curious about for some time. I checked in in the evening, and as soon as I passed through the entrance and reached the lobby, I was breathless at the beautiful green garden framed by the large windows. I was even more moved by how the trees were reflected on the large stone table—it felt almost like being in an art museum. The calm atmosphere instantly eased my fatigue, and I truly felt glad I had chosen this place. My Room was on the third floor—Room 305 (Nijo Castle View Twin). The reflection of greenery even appeared above the window, creating an unexpectedly spacious feel that really impressed me. The use of stone flooring also gave it a wonderfully solid, luxurious presence. The raised area featured black tatami mats—something we Japanese guests especially appreciate. From the furniture and cushions to the bedding, every detail felt carefully considered, and I was completely satisfied. For breakfast, I chose their “Wellbeing” concept option—it was genuinely delicious and deeply impressive. The staff were flawless as well. Although it may seem like a high-end property at first glance, there were many younger staff members too, and their warm hospitality made me want to chat with them naturally. You’re sure to have a wonderful stay here.

I visited Hiiragiya again. I had made a Reservation for a Room with a bath and toilet, but I was first shown to a Room without them. It was still very comfortable, but when I asked to Check Reservation, I was told there had been a mistake, and you kindly arranged for me to stay in the Room associated with author Yasunari Kawabata. Thank you for your thoughtful care. Once again, I enjoyed Kyoto’s summer flavors—chilled edamame soup topped with sea urchin, pike conger sashimi, grilled tilefish with crispy scales, jellied soft-shelled turtle broth, Kamo eggplant with sesame sauce, and more—then fully enjoyed Yoiyama and fell asleep thinking of Mr. Kawabata before continuing on to the Gion Festival. Kyoto is changing little by little, but this is the beauty of Japan—and the spirit of Japanese hospitality—that I hope will be passed on to future generations.

Staying amid the vineyards and enjoying the warm hospitality of everyone who supported us made for an exceptional time. This is an Accommodation we will definitely want to visit again.

It was a wonderful Accommodation, just as the Reviews said. The food, the interior throughout the property, and the furnishings in the guest rooms were all tastefully chosen, and since there were only six groups of guests, we were able to relax even though it was peak season. The staff’s service was also excellent. It was an Accommodation that made us want to come back again after a long time.

It was wonderful. The Room was spacious, and the in-room Onsen was excellent—I enjoyed it many times. The private bath had no time limit, and I could use it anytime as long as it was available, which made me very satisfied. The staff greeted me with smiles. Above all, every meal was delicious and made me feel truly happy. I have stayed at various Accommodations before, but I think this one was the best. During my stay, I already wanted to come back again. It was truly great. Thank you very much.

Its kaleidoscopic beauty resonates deeply in the heart. Exquisitely prepared with sincere care, the cuisine is truly delicious. A beautiful garden that reflects the seasons—so captivating you could gaze at it forever. Elegant summer décor that lets you fully experience Kyoto’s traditional culture. Hanging scrolls, ikebana, and a beautifully arranged Room down to every detail. The head chef, attendants, the young proprietress, and the proprietress herself offer warm, attentive hospitality with genuine grace. Thinking that all of this beauty is an expression of love for each guest fills me with freshness and gratitude. At Kikkawa, you can feel the refined spirit of Kyoto—an appreciation for making everyday life beautiful and joyful. It began as an Accommodation I hoped to stay at at least once in my life; before I knew it, this was my 11th visit. A superb culinary Ryokan I wholeheartedly recommend to anyone who truly loves Kyoto.

We traveled with my elderly mother-in-law, and as on our previous stay, everything—such as preparing chairs—was arranged with extra care, allowing us to spend a very comfortable time. The meals were consistently excellent as well. Since we stay around the same time every year, we would appreciate it if you could consider adding a bit more variety to items such as the hassun. To all the staff, thank you very much for your help and thoughtful attention.

We stayed as a family of three. We were extremely satisfied with every aspect of our stay—the atmosphere of the Facility and the attentive service from the staff. The French course featuring duck, which we had requested in advance, was carefully prepared dish by dish. Not only was it delicious, but the presentation and ingredient pairings were outstanding—truly showcasing the chef’s talent. Recently, we often choose “Sakagura,” and in any case it is wonderfully quiet. The entire building has a calm presence, allowing us to relax and enjoy unhurried time away from everyday life. As always, all staff members were kind and courteous. Their thoughtful attention to detail could be felt throughout our stay, and we were comfortable from start to finish. Once again, we felt this is a truly wonderful Accommodation where the cuisine, Facility, and service are all in perfect harmony. Thank you very much.

We stayed for one night in Yayoi in July with our dog as a couple. We’ve stayed at many dog-friendly Accommodations, and this is the best one for us. I especially love sulfur Onsen, and while other dog-friendly Accommodations we’ve stayed at had Onsen, none had sulfur springs. Here, there is also a free-flowing natural hot spring bath in the Room, so we didn’t have to leave our dog waiting to go to a public bath. Even though many places don’t allow dogs in the bathroom area, this Accommodation provided a dog bathtub, shampoo, and towels—I've never stayed anywhere so thoughtful. Our senior large dog kept coming to watch us enjoy the Onsen with curiosity. Just walking through the spilled water from the free-flowing sulfur spring at the washing area turned his rough, cracked paw pads into smooth ones—just like the Reviews said. It’s truly an amazing Onsen. The Imabari bath towel after bathing was fluffy and very comfortable. Since it was a No Meals Included stay, we mainly brought takeout from Nasu restaurants. We also bought Nasu cheese and sausages along with drinks and snacks, and picked up bread and yogurt for breakfast at a nearby shop before heading to the Accommodation. With the best sulfur Onsen, delicious food and drinks from Nasu, a quiet setting, we were able to relax completely. Our dog also seemed very satisfied with the cool highland climate, peaceful greenery-filled surroundings, and private feel without running into other dogs—he looked truly relaxed. All of us were soothed by both nature and the Onsen and went home extremely happy. My husband said he wants to come again in winter too—so we’ll be making another Reservation. The carefully prepared, healthy cuisine; the clean and stylish Room; the luxurious amenities; and the bath where you can soak and relax while listening to the gentle murmur of the river—everything was deeply satisfying, making for a truly wonderful stay. What stayed with me most was the hospitality of all the staff. There were several international team members as well, and seeing them warmly serve guests in Japanese with great effort, while striving to embrace Japanese culture, was truly heartwarming. This is an Accommodation I would love to visit again. Thank you very much for such a wonderful time.

This was an Accommodation I’d wanted to visit for a long time. I was hoping for the riverside bath and a starry sky, but due to the river running high and cloudy weather, it didn’t happen. Still, the Accommodation was wonderful, so I was completely satisfied. At check-in, we were served delicious homemade sweets: hanamame beans with shiratama in kinako and kuromitsu. The proprietress and staff were very pleasant, and the hot spring bath—fed directly from the source—overflowed generously and felt amazing. The meals were beautifully presented using local ingredients, and we were happily full. The Room was clean and relaxing, with the sound of the river (it was quite loud this time because of the high water, but I’m sure it’s usually soothing). It was also lovely to see small wildflowers displayed throughout. It’s an Accommodation I’d love to stay at again and again. We will definitely return.

This is a Japanese-style suite reached by stairs. As you enter, folk-art furniture sits on the wooden-floored entry area; open the vermilion-lacquered double-sided kumiko shoji framed by carefully crafted natural-wood pillars and rails, and you step into a tatami Room scented with fresh rush. Seasonal hanging scrolls and flowers, and a large low table complete the setting. From the wide north-facing window, you can see the river surface and the temple’s great roof. By the window are a box hibachi used as a table and a small rocking chair. At the back of the south-side wooden-floored area, it seems an extension has been added: a large, bright bath area (a thick, oversized hinoki cypress tub big enough for about four people to soak together, washing space, footbath, and washbasin). Through the glass door you can view mountain ridges; open it to step onto the veranda and feel the breeze. The water flows continuously 24/7 despite concerns about humidity affecting wooden construction. Everything is kept very clean and well maintained—an indulgent bathing experience. After finishing an excellent meal at a calm small dining room table facing the garden, we returned to find our futons laid out. A bed would be easier, but it would probably feel out of place in this Room. I adjusted the futon orientation to my preference. In addition to air conditioning there is also a gas fan heater, so it should stay warm even in winter. Renovation work seems to be progressing in stages, and I’m looking forward to seeing newly refurbished Rooms.

This was my first stay. With only three groups per day, it’s a private pet-friendly Accommodation with a gentle, welcoming atmosphere. The cuisine was excellent, as you’d expect from a Ryokan—especially the sesame tofu and soba. Meals were served in a private dining room. Our dog happily ate the dog pizza. We stayed in the “Kuu-chan” tatami Room on the first floor, which felt a bit too spacious, but it was comfortable with no odors. The bath was a private reservable bath assigned to each Room. Since we visited in August, it was too hot outside to do much. We heard bears may appear around places like Enakyo Gorge. One downside was that a belly band (manner belt) is required inside the Room.

We visited during Golden Week for a birthday trip. From the warm welcome to the lounge, Room, baths, and meals, everything throughout our stay was wonderful and made it a truly unforgettable trip. The view from the Room was beautiful, and we were able to spend a relaxing, luxurious time. Every dish was genuinely delicious; even though the portions were generous, it was so good that I finished everything for the first time. All of the staff were consistently kind and attentive, which made our entire stay very comfortable. We also went to an outside bath, but it was quite crowded—so much so that we felt completely satisfied with just the Ryokan’s baths. In particular, the in-Room bath had perfect temperature and excellent water quality, and it was incredibly soothing. I’ve been traveling about once every two months for many years, but this is the first Ryokan that truly made me think, “I definitely want to come back.” Next time, I’d love to visit during crab season. The parking lot is less than a 1-minute walk from the Accommodation, but since we couldn’t bring the car right up to the entrance, the proprietress came to the car to pick up our luggage. Dinner was the Shige-no-Ya group dining Plan. The hot pot was served with their homemade broth instead of ponzu or other sauces, and it was very delicious. The soba rice porridge served at breakfast was also excellent. However, we chose a room with an open-air bath, and perhaps because it’s old, one tile had come off and there were stickers inside and quite a bit of dirty debris floating around, which was disappointing. There were several spots where things felt loose when touched, so I think they should be repaired before more tiles come off. My husband said both the Onsen and the garden were wonderful and he really liked them, but my daughter and I couldn’t use it because it felt unclean, which was unfortunate. All of the staff were easy to talk to, and they spoke to my daughter every time they saw her. Everyone was very friendly, which we appreciated!

We stayed here as a couple during the Obon holidays. Even though it was the hottest time of midsummer, Tenkawa Village was wonderfully cool—a top summer retreat in Kansai where we could stay comfortable without using the Room air conditioner and without breaking a sweat. We had long admired the charm of Dorogawa Onsen and had wanted to stay there at least once, and choosing Hanaya Tokubei was absolutely the right decision. The whole town has a lovely atmosphere, but Tokubei stands out for its especially distinctive and tasteful building. Because there are few guest Rooms with private indoor baths in the area, we stayed in “Higashi no Tenku” with an indoor bath. The view is mostly of the courtyard, so if you are used to resort-style Onsen facilities it may not exceed expectations. Still, considering this is traditionally an Accommodation used by ascetics, we felt it was a true luxury and enjoyed it. The meals were delicious Japanese cuisine featuring plenty of local ingredients, with thoughtful touches throughout that kept our Multiple Night Stay from ever feeling repetitive. We were completely full but couldn’t bear to leave anything behind—and finished every last bite. Spending time on the veranda at dusk with a beer in hand while watching people pass by was simply wonderful. After sunset, strolling around the area in yukata is also great fun. Wherever you walk, the lantern lights feel magical, and Tokubei lends out portable lanterns as well. It was like stepping back into a period drama. There were also foreign staff members, and they were genuinely kind and attentive—we truly appreciated it. This is an Accommodation we would love to visit again. Highly recommended if you are sightseeing in Dorogawa Onsen.

I have stayed here many times. Although it is an older Accommodation, the Room and baths are always kept very clean, which makes for a very pleasant stay. The staff are attentive and considerate while maintaining a comfortable sense of distance—truly a wonderful Accommodation. The early-summer dishes this time were also delicious. They looked refreshing and beautifully presented. I would love to visit again in winter. Thank you very much.

After visiting Kamikochi, three friends and I stayed here. It’s a 10-minute walk from Sawando Bus Terminal. After arriving, we fully enjoyed the Onsen— the large public bath, meals, the private bath, and the open-air bath in our Room. The free-flowing private bath and the open-air bath in our Room were exceptional. Both dinner and breakfast featuring local ingredients were delicious, and there was also a great selection of drinks. The Room was thoughtfully appointed with local furniture and tapestries, a massage chair, a Dyson Airwrap dryer, and many other touches that made our stay comfortable. What impressed me most was how impeccably clean everything was. From the garden on arrival to the baths and guest room, everything felt fresh and serene, making our time there truly relaxing. This has become an Accommodation we would love to visit again. Thank you very much.

I stayed here for a concert trip this time. Because of the concert end time and traffic, I didn’t arrive until 9:00 PM, and I ended up getting to dinner very late, but you welcomed me with a smile and I had a wonderful time. Breakfast was also delicious, and since I had some time before checkout, I was able to take a walk in Kenrokuen Garden across the street. The location is excellent, and above all, every staff member was smiling and seemed genuinely happy—I would definitely like to stay here again the next time I visit Kanazawa.
