I booked this the day before with breakfast and dinner included because the Accommodation I originally wanted was fully booked, and I wanted to watch the fireworks festival from Sakurajima. It was my first time on Sakurajima, and there’s an abandoned Hotel nearby—when I first drove past, I mistakenly passed by this place too (laugh). Check-in is normally from 3:00 PM, but since I arrived early, I called and was kindly told I could check in from 2:30 PM. After a short walk around the area, I checked in at 2:30 PM. I was also able to reserve the private bath for 3:30 PM, so I relaxed in my Room for a while. About the private bath: if you unlock the seaside door, it connects to the men’s open-air bath area. Also, it shares a wall with the men’s changing area with about a 10 cm gap at the top, so please be cautious about privacy. The Onsen water is extremely hot; there are instructions advising you to pour water over yourself with a bucket to get used to it before entering. Passing beyond both the men’s and women’s baths and heading outside down a short slope, there is also a mixed-gender bath located about 1 meter from the sea. Meals are not served in-room; breakfast and dinner are served at a dining venue past the front desk, and both were very delicious. The Room is a Japanese-style tatami room with futon bedding. The in-room bath is an old-style light-blue unit tub of about 1.2 m square. The toilet feels like a Western-style seat added onto an original squat toilet setup, so it’s quite small. The balcony offers stunning views of Kinko Bay, but due to volcanic ash and being close to the sea, railings and other metal parts are quite rusty. Still, considering how thoughtful the staff were as well as the price overall, I think it’s a very good Hotel. By noon that day when I went to scout Sakurajima Lava Nagisa Park and Yunohira Observatory Deck, many spots were already being held with sheets and camera tripods—so after dinner we drove to the Sakurajima Ferry parking lot, parked there, walked to the pier area instead, sat comfortably at our own pace while watching fireworks—and we were very satisfied.

We stayed for one night with breakfast included. The Accommodation accepts only three groups per day, and the bath and toilets are shared; however, the bath is a private family-bath style. Since we have a daughter who dislikes large public baths with strangers, this was the deciding factor. We were able to book a two-room suite-style Room, with a separate living area and bedroom—spacious and relaxing. Perhaps because it used to be a traditional restaurant, the entrance area of the Room (shoe-off space) is open, and each Room is secured by locking its sliding doors (fusuma). The locks are screw-type locks for sliding doors rather than typical cylinder door locks, so younger guests unfamiliar with them may be confused at first (as our kids were). Also likely due to the building’s traditional structure—with fusuma and shoji screens—soundproofing is somewhat limited, and TV noise or conversations can be heard from the hallway (according to our daughter). That said, the property itself is generally quiet. The layout also seemed designed with noise in mind—for example, keeping relaxation spaces separated. There was one other family with small children staying that day, but it didn’t bother us. There is no washbasin inside the Room; instead, paper cups are provided at the sinks in the bath area and by the toilets for brushing teeth and washing up. Everything was well maintained and pleasant to use. Breakfast the next morning was served in a large hall on the second floor. It was an excellent Japanese-style breakfast—delicious.

The Room was very clean. However, the heating was not very effective, and it took time for the Room to warm up. The basement bedroom had no heating at all.

This is a room in a resort condominium used as an accommodation. It includes a small kitchen for simple cooking and a larger refrigerator compared to regular hotels, which is especially helpful during summer. There is also a large public bath that you can use as many times as you like during your stay. The security is reliable, and the room key code will be sent via email! A slightly larger shelf in the bathroom would be convenient for placing cosmetics and other items.

There are some things that make you think "a bit off" as mentioned in the reviews, but considering the cost performance and being able to stay with my beloved dog, I personally think this is the best accommodation! It’s definitely one of the accommodations I’d love to visit again.

This time, we booked the Itan Bitchu dinner course, and our Room was “Ginkgo,” a beautifully renovated traditional Japanese house. Both dinner and breakfast were incredibly delicious. The staff’s thoughtful hospitality was also wonderful. I would love to stay again if I have the chance.

We used this Accommodation for a three-generation trip. There were 7 adults and 4 children (ages 10, 8, 5, and 1), all boys. For a two-night, three-day stay, we booked three Rooms in Sukumotei on the front-desk floor, which was very convenient. We were able to dine together as a large group, and because the dining area felt like semi-private seating with some separation from other guests, it was great. The half-buffet was also nice and delicious. There wasn’t the kind of crowding you get at a large Hotel, so we could relax. On the second day, our one-year-old grandson developed a fever, and they made rice porridge for him and helped us find a hospital—we truly appreciated all their support. We can’t thank the staff enough for their warm care. During our stay, the children were loud—running around in the Rooms—and I’m sure it was noisy. But thanks to the unique comfort of this place, we were able to spend our time without feeling self-conscious. Thank you for making it such a memorable trip.

You can also enjoy the Onsen in the main building, offering excellent value for money. The staff's hospitality is very pleasant.

This was my first stay, and the Accommodation was very clean and great! There was a convenience store nearby, plenty of restaurants in the area, and many coin-operated parking lots next door or close by, which was very convenient. Amenities such as contact lens cases and solution were available at the front desk for guests to pick up what they needed, which was also convenient. The eye mask was nice too. The washroom/bath area had a curtain instead of a door. Some guests may be bothered by noise when using the hair dryer, but if that doesn’t concern you, I recommend it. Also, I was surprised that the toilet seat was cold! It would have been perfect if it had been turned on after cleaning. If I visit Matsuyama again, I’d love to stay here next time as well!

Our family of three stayed in a loft log cabin. As you’d expect from a log cabin, it has a charming handmade feel. The Room was thoroughly cleaned and felt very fresh and spotless. It came with a mini kitchen, a microwave, and a private bath and toilet. The beds were on the smaller side, but soft and comfortable, so we slept well. My husband slept on the futon in the loft and seemed to really enjoy it. The homemade bread at breakfast was incredibly delicious and made us feel warm and happy. Through the large open windows, we could watch the trees swaying in the morning and enjoy the peaceful view of gentle rain—it was wonderful. The staff at Hoshinoko Accommodation were also kind and very pleasant.

This was my first time staying here. Since this trip was mainly for sightseeing and dining, I booked a No Meals Included plan. There is a sign at the entrance that reflects the property’s history, and it offers great access to Karato Market and Kamon Wharf, making it ideal for a sightseeing stay. At check-in and check-out, the staff were courteous and friendly, which made me feel very welcome, and I would like to stay again next time. The Room and Facility are a bit dated and show their age, but the Room was clean and comfortable. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

Although I stayed in a familiar area, I was able to enjoy a little escape from the everyday. Thank you very much.

The Facility may look old, but it has a pleasantly aged charm, and it is thoroughly cleaned, so it never feels dirty. The fireplace atmosphere is wonderful! The service was very courteous, and everyone greeted us with a smile, which felt great. When we contacted the front desk, they came to our Room right away—truly attentive. The meals were very generous and we couldn’t finish everything, but we also enjoyed the game meat. The bath was well cleaned, and the open-air bath was especially relaxing with a view of the night sky!

The Hotel building seems old, but it was well cleaned and very tidy. The meals were among the best I have ever had during my stays. Each dish was carefully prepared. Both dinner and breakfast were excellent. I would like to stay here again if I have the opportunity.

The place was clean and well-maintained, allowing for a very comfortable and relaxing stay. I appreciated the availability of bicycles and made good use of them. I understand that maintaining a traditional house can be challenging, but I hope you continue to preserve and manage this building. Thank you very much for everything this time.

The room had a nice atmosphere in a quiet location. It was raining on the day, so it was convenient that the room was located just above the parking area. The washing machine comes with detergent, and there is also a gas dryer. Dishes, dishwashing detergent, and amenities are provided. Please note that pajamas are not included, so you will need to bring your own.

It was excellent. The staff at the accommodation were polite, the room was clean, and it turned into a wonderful and relaxing trip!
