    Your First Visit to Otaru

    We stayed here during the Obon holidays as a family of three. The bed was comfortable and we slept well. Breakfast was delicious, and it made our trip truly wonderful.

    Travel is life

    Great location.

    The staff service was not very good, but the Facility was very clean, perhaps because it is new. It was in a great location, very close to the Otaru Sakaimachi Shopping Street and the canal. Dining could not be booked because it was fully booked at the time of Reservation.

    The Hotel was conven...

    The Hotel was conveniently located near the Otaru Canal. The front desk staff seemed inexperienced and often could not provide clear answers to questions, giving an overall impression that they were not handling things smoothly.

    The location is excellent.

    It is in a very convenient location near the canal for sightseeing in Otaru. The Hotel is bright and has a nice large public bath, but the Room felt small for a tourist Hotel and there was no space to open a suitcase, which was inconvenient. The bed was also quite high, so I would like to see that improved as well.

    For stays near the Otaru Canal

    I chose this property because it was newly opened. The Facility is new, and the large public bath was great. I ate out, so I can’t comment on the meals, but I thought the location and amenities were very good. Given the great location and newness, here are a few points that would make it even better: 1. Front desk service: This may have been partly due to how I explained it, but regarding issuing a Receipt, my request didn’t come across properly. In the morning I didn’t have time at the front desk to discuss it further. It was disappointing. 2. The bath is excellent, but despite being a new Facility, there was an odor from the drain in the washing area. That’s the one thing I’d like to see improved. 3. The canal is nearby and you can see it from your Room! At night the lights come on and I tried to take photos from my Room, but unfortunately the glass was dirty. I’d like to visit again, so I hope these points can be improved.

    Expectations

    The Hotels I’ve booked through IKYU so far have exceeded my expectations, but this time I reserved without thinking too much and stayed there. I assumed we would have a canal view from the Room, but it turned out to face the gravel side, so my husband and I couldn’t help but laugh. I regret not checking carefully when making the Reservation. It was disappointing because I had high expectations. The lounge was accessible even without a Reservation, and the staff were very pleasant. We were able to fully enjoy the canal night view there. And it was incredibly affordable, which impressed me.

    Very comfortable.

    The Otaru Canal was right in front of us, and we could even see it from the Hotel. Everything we wanted to visit was within walking distance, so we were able to fully enjoy Otaru! Breakfast was also very delicious, with such an appealing selection that we wanted to try everything. We were happy to be able to have a seafood bowl in the morning. Thank you very much.

    Many disappointing points

    As a new Hotel, it is generally clean. However, the sterile hallways clearly reflect cost-cutting and feel like an office, which was disappointing and not relaxing. The staff also seemed like part-timers without even basic hospitality skills, which was disappointing. Breakfast may look like it offers many options, but the selection is simple and obviously pre-made commercial items, which was disappointing. The highlight was the bath: the very deep open-air bath was great for adults to soak in properly. Overall, it offers good value for money, but if you are considering it as part of a special trip to Hokkaido, it may be worth reconsidering.

    It’s a wonderful Hotel.

    The Hotel is relatively new, and like other Granbell Hotels, it features a refined interior. In particular, the design incorporates elements inspired by Otaru’s streetscape throughout, and the well-planned layout made it very comfortable and easy to use. The large public bath and open-air bath were also very pleasant. The lounge happy hour was much appreciated, and the view of the Otaru Canal was wonderful. We enjoyed our stay so much that we would love to return again.

    We are truly sorry.

    Having stayed at Sapporo Granbell several times, I couldn’t help comparing, and it was deeply disappointing. We stayed two nights in a Corner Suite, but clothing left behind by the previous guest was still in the Room. There was no apology from the front desk at check-out. Breakfast also looked on the website as if it would be reminiscent of Sapporo Granbell, but the quality was at a business hotel level and terrible. That level may be fine for first-time guests or inbound travelers, but I was shocked by how poor the value for money was. The restaurant staff service was also awful—facial expressions, attitude, and overall demeanor. I think retraining is needed, including the front desk staff. Sorry for being so harsh. However, since it is on the former Nord site, the location is excellent. Access to major sightseeing spots was very good. The Facility is new and felt clean. That’s all.

    This was my first st...

    This was my first stay, and the accommodation is conveniently located near the canal, Otaru Sakaimachi Street shopping area, and Sushi Street, making it easy for sightseeing and dining. The hotel is clean with excellent facilities including a large public bath (with an open-air bath), sauna, and a lounge exclusively for guests. Breakfast offered a wide variety of Japanese and Western options, which was very satisfying. The room was also clean, and I appreciated being able to store luggage under the bed.

    Hmm

    The building is new, but the exterior feels dark, and the entrance is hard to locate. The room itself is not about size but rather that the bed is too high—even for someone tall like me, it was surprisingly high. It might be even more challenging for shorter guests. Additionally, I bumped my forehead on the bay window wall multiple times. Breakfast was average, though I found staff chatting among themselves distracting. However, the bath was very pleasant to use. Unfortunately, I wouldn’t choose to stay here again.

    The Room and location are wonderful, but

    We used two rooms as a family, and both rooms were clean and comfortable, likely because they were new. We were looking forward to enjoying the lounge on the top floor at night, but at the entrance, we were asked if we had a reservation. All seats were fully booked, so we couldn't use it in the end. If the lounge is often crowded, it would have been helpful to be informed during check-in that making a reservation is recommended. The public bath was supposed to be available from 5 AM, but when I went there, the lights were off and I had to bathe in complete darkness. Both the changing room and bathing area were dark, and two other groups who came to use the bath seemed surprised as well. The location was excellent and convenient for sightseeing, and while the rooms were beautiful, these issues left us feeling disappointed.

    Highly Satisfied

    I recently stayed for 2 nights and 3 days. It takes about a 15-minute walk from Otaru Station, but the comfort at the hotel more than made up for it. Since it is a relatively new accommodation, everything was very clean with an efficient room layout. The breakfast had fewer sashimi options, but there were plenty of other dishes to choose from, and they were all very delicious. The front desk staff were friendly and left a positive impression. I would love to stay here again if I have the chance.

    A clean and comfortable Business Hotel

    Conveniently located for Otaru sightseeing, the newly opened accommodation was clean and comfortable. As a Business Hotel with a reasonable price range, I initially did not have high expectations for meals, but the breakfast buffet exceeded expectations with a wide variety of dishes, including seafood and desserts, which were very delicious. While the guest room only had a shower, the large public bath included an open-air bath and was very relaxing. We stayed in a twin room for two people this time; however, I noticed there was only one chair in the room, no refrigerator, and the hotel's AI guide was difficult to understand and use. That said, this quality at this price is truly impressive. Due to Otaru's popularity among international tourists, we missed out on making reservations at restaurants outside. It would be reassuring if dinner options were available within the hotel for guests.

    Parking and Bath Facilities

    A unique type of multi-story parking requires reversing into a narrow space between tires in dim lighting without mirrors. Staff only operate the lift for moving cars up and down, with no guidance provided, which may cause concern. The number of guests staying is unclear, but the bathing area has only 7 washing stations placed back-to-back, making it cramped. Standing and waiting to wash can feel uncomfortable for others.

    I was satisfied.

    The newly opened hotel offered excellent value for early reservations. The location was convenient for visiting tourist spots, and I was satisfied with the staff's service, the cleanliness of the room, and the rooftop public bath. The buffet breakfast, in particular, had a wide variety of dishes and was very delicious. However, perhaps due to being newly opened, cardboard boxes (possibly containing supplies) were noticeable in areas like the elevator hall, which caught my attention slightly. Next time, I would like to stay in a larger room. Thank you very much!

    Relaxation

    This time, I stayed with my husband during our trip to Hokkaido. The bath was clean, and there was a relaxing area after bathing. After the bath, we enjoyed cocktails at the bar on the top floor while admiring the illuminations and had a relaxing time.

    Overall Review

    The breakfast buffet offers a wide variety of delicious and high-quality options. Overall service was excellent. It would be even better if there were water in the Room and a coffee maker at the entrance. The sauna, including its Facility and outdoor air bath, was fantastic, but the cold bath could be colder for an even better experience.

    About the Bath

    A new and functional Hotel, but some aspects are inconvenient. Regarding the bath, since there are many international guests, it might be necessary to provide instructions for rinsing before use or cleaning terrace chairs before and after use. The sauna temperature is also quite low. Parking takes time for entry and exit, so using a nearby parking lot might be more convenient. Close to the canal, I would like to stay again.

    The rooftop bar was excellent.

    Storage space is limited, so it might not be very convenient for Multiple Night Stay guests. However, the large public bath, the bar with its affordable prices and sophisticated atmosphere, and the canal night view were delightful. The breakfast had a wide variety of dishes and was delicious.

    The Hotel's parking space is limited, which is disappointing.

    The accommodation is newly opened, and the room was very clean. The rooftop large public bath was also great. The corner twin room was spacious and comfortable. However, while there’s no issue if arriving by train, the hotel parking spaces are very limited. When I arrived after 4 PM (the check-in time), it was already full. In such cases, you’ll need to park at an uncovered private parking lot near the hotel. These lots are a bit far from the hotel and may cost over 1,000 yen per day. Since it rained on both my stay date and the following day, it was quite inconvenient. If traveling by car, I might not choose this accommodation due to its inconvenience for drivers.

    Some details are disappointing.

    The hotel is new, clean, and has a modern design, which was great. However, there were many areas where detailed services were lacking, which felt like a missed opportunity. ◯ Positive Points - The bath on the upper floors had a spacious open-air area with stunning views of the canal and Ishikari Bay. The uniquely designed sauna was also impressive. - Breakfast offered more variety compared to nearby hotels of similar level and tasted good as well. Although breakfast hours were short (2-hour reception), capacity was not an issue despite concerns about crowding. - Having a smart speaker in the guest room instead of a phone felt modern and interesting. ◯ Areas for Improvement - Issues such as water dispenser cups frequently running out, vending machines being out of change or not working at night, and hair dryers that wouldn’t turn on stood out as minor inconveniences. - There were no sauna mats in the bath area, which caused some confusion. It seems guests are expected to bring towels from their rooms for this purpose, but it felt slightly inconvenient. - In the Hollywood Twin room I stayed in, there was a desk space by the window; however, an overhanging wall above made it feel unsafe for adults to use (I hit my head twice before giving up). - The provided loungewear was an open-front gown type without bottoms—this might make some people uncomfortable when moving around inside the hotel. - For Multiple Night Stays (two nights in this case), cleaning service wasn’t provided at all. While hotels with default no-cleaning policies are becoming more common these days, not even having an option to request cleaning was surprising and slightly inconvenient.

    The room was clean, but the management seemed overwhelmed. The parking lot was full with no affiliated parking options available. Check-in was inefficient and time-consuming. Breakfast required a long wait despite empty seats, food replenishment was slow, seafood was placed in direct sunlight, and the buffet area lacked proper cleaning with food left on the floor. Soup bowls were unavailable; when staff were informed, only one bowl was brought without further restocking. The café latte tasted like bitter coffee as if milk had been omitted. Overall, it was a stressful stay that did not justify the price charged. Being newly opened is no excuse for this level of service—it’s unacceptable to charge guests under these conditions.

    The bed was amazing!

    Recently opened, providing a fresh and comfortable stay. The large public bath and open-air bath were very relaxing, perfect for washing away the sweat from the intense heat of the day—absolutely wonderful! Next time, I’d like to include breakfast as well. Thank you for your hospitality.
