  A stylish Hotel & café with exceptionally delicious coffee

  The standout feature of this Hotel is the Common Well Cafe on the first floor, a Melbourne-style cafe. The coffee is exceptionally good, and even the drip coffee in the Room comes from this cafe. I liked it so much that I made a second Reservation just to enjoy it again. Both the cafe and Hotel staff are friendly and attentive, with an international feel. In fact, many of the guests were foreigners. The Room is simple yet stylish. Perhaps because it caters to international travelers, there’s no bathtub—only a shower booth—which was a bit disappointing for someone who loves soaking in a bath, but understandable. Amenities are minimal: disposable brush, razor, toothbrush (wooden!), cotton pads and cotton swabs, plus hand wash and face wash. There are no basic skincare items for women. In the shower booth you’ll find shampoo, conditioner, and body wash—all with an organic feel. The pajamas and towels were very comfortable. Breakfast is served as a one-plate set with a choice of regular or vegan: Kyoto vegetables, bacon, sausage, bread, yogurt, and minestrone soup. Simple but delicious. For drinks I chose the charcoal latte—black because it contains charcoal—but it didn’t change the taste. I would stay here again.

We are particular about offering a healthy yet satisfying breakfast, featuring Melbourne-style coffee, Kyoto-style minestrone, bread from Yoshida Pan Kobo, and Kyoto vegetables. We also carefully select high-quality green coffee beans with a focus on freshness from coffee-producing regions around the world, including Ethiopia and Brazil. You can choose your preferred milk and temperature as well, and we hope you enjoy finding your perfect cup. We are very sorry to hear that the shower booth did not meet your expectations. All Rooms at our Hotel are equipped with an approximately 30 cm rain shower. Compared to a standard handheld shower, it provides a greater volume of water and offers warmth comparable to soaking in a bathtub. If you would prefer a Room with a bathtub, only our Executive Twin type includes one; please consider it for your next stay. Thank you as well for sharing your feedback regarding amenities. One of our concepts is contributing to the SDGs. For this reason, we provide environmentally friendly amenities in guest Rooms, including shampoo made with naturally derived ingredients and bamboo toothbrushes. These toothbrushes are original to our Hotel and feature our name engraved on them. You are welcome to take one home as a souvenir—perhaps as a keepsake of your stay.   In any case, the location is excellent.

  I probably stay here almost every year. This year it felt like many of the front desk staff had changed, but as always, the service was attentive without being intrusive—just the right balance. What makes this Hotel especially appealing is its location. When I’m in Kyoto for a short stay and need to get various errands done, this area is the most convenient, so I’ve been returning for several years. This time I came from Osaka, and by taking the Keihan Line from Yodoyabashi to Keihan Sanjo, I didn’t need to use Kyoto Station or the subway at all, which made everything stress-free. The Room is always kept clean and well prepared, and it’s also nice to be able to sit down in a shared space and enjoy a cup of tea—something I really appreciate when I’m tired. There’s also a lovely cafe on the first floor where you can have great coffee and breakfast, but since there are several long-established Kyoto coffee shops just a few minutes’ walk away, I didn’t eat at the Hotel this time. I’m sure I’ll be back again next year. Thank you in advance when that time comes.

  As comfortable as ever

  This was my first stay in about two years, and I was satisfied as always. However, I did not include meals either last time or this time, so I can’t comment on that. Cleanliness, which is my top priority, met my expectations. That said, like many typical hotels, the bed isn’t very long, so as a tall person it wasn’t ideal. The pillow quality also isn’t very good. Other than that, everything was good, and I’d like to stay again next time.

In addition to thorough room cleaning after each stay, we carefully clean our Facility and amenities every day, and we also work with professional cleaning contractors for areas that are difficult to handle manually, so that we can keep both the interior and exterior of the Hotel in beautiful condition at all times. We also maintain a clean first-floor lobby and lounge to welcome our guests, so we are very pleased to read your kind comments. Regarding the bed, we sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused. Our mattresses are approximately 200 cm in length; however, as two pillows are provided, some taller guests may feel it is slightly short. As for pillows, in addition to the two types provided in each room (soft and firm), we also offer memory foam pillows, high-resilience pillows, pipe pillows, and wide pillows.   Convenient Hotel clo...

  Convenient Hotel close to the subway station and downtown area, with many restaurants within walking distance. The Hotel is quiet, as guests are rarely encountered except during check-in and check-out (mostly Westerners observed). Occasionally, footsteps from upper floors can be heard at night but do not disturb sleep. Sounds from neighboring rooms or hallways are not noticeable, and outside noise is minimal except for rain sounds, possibly due to low foot traffic. The hallway lighting is quite dim but not an issue if you don't encounter others (darker than it appears in photos). The Room is simple with limited amenities; however, additional items may be available upon request. Cleaning is thorough. A humidifier was provided but difficult to fill due to a shallow sink—curious how others manage this. The bathroom mirror was very clear and easy to use. Rooms with only a shower space might feel cramped for individuals around 170 cm tall. Shampoo and hand soap have a pleasant botanical scent. The welcome service of matcha tea and sweets was delicious, especially the rice crackers provided—they were exceptional! Opting for the breakfast-included Plan allowed me to enjoy meals at the café; however, nearby options like Inoda Coffee or other cafés and bakeries also seem worth exploring. Breakfast menus differed on both days and were delightful. The café offered a wide variety of coffee options and was always lively. Checking out around 10:30 AM revealed only one staff member at the front desk handling luggage shipping arrangements for another guest's next destination—a process that took some time. About three groups (including myself) waited approximately 10 minutes until another staff member emerged from a back room to assist us. There were two staff members present around 10:00 AM earlier in the day; however, unclear staffing arrangements left me feeling slightly disappointed after waiting during checkout time.

We are honored by your compliments on our location. As you mentioned, we are conveniently located near the station and in the heart of Kyoto, making it easy to access various tourist spots. You can also walk to Nishiki Market and Kawaramachi, Kyoto's bustling downtown area. Despite being in such a convenient location, we are situated a few streets away from the busy main roads, allowing for a relatively quiet stay. Many of our guests have praised this aspect of our accommodation. During your stay, we were fully booked; however, as each floor has a maximum of 10 rooms, there were likely fewer opportunities to encounter other guests. Your feedback on this point was unique and refreshing for us to read. Thank you as well for utilizing our lounge services. For our welcome drink service, we offer "Ikuyo no Mukashi" matcha from Ippodo Tea Co., paired with "Shinseimame" by Kanaya Masahiro and "Kogyoku" by Eirakuya. We are delighted that these suited your taste. The tea sweets provided change depending on the season or events; we’re glad you enjoyed them during your visit. Additionally, as part of our complimentary services, we provide snacks such as rice crackers from Busshuan and Yatsuhashi from Izutsu Yatsuhashi Honpo alongside tea from Ippodo Tea Co., all sourced from renowned Kyoto establishments—we hope they added to your experience. We apologize for any inconvenience caused by the bathroom setup and will discuss internally how to make humidifiers more accessible in future stays based on your valuable feedback—thank you again for sharing it with us. Furthermore, please accept our sincerest apologies if check-out left an unpleasant impression due to congestion during peak times. We will review staffing arrangements during busy periods while striving toward individual skill improvement among staff members moving forward. Your valuable input has been shared within our team as an important matter requiring attention so that future stays end smoothly without discomfort or dissatisfaction caused unintentionally like this instance did—we deeply regret falling short here but remain committed wholeheartedly towards ensuring better experiences ahead!   Overall, I was satisfied.

  I have been using this place since last year because it is close to the shop I want to visit. Overall, I am satisfied, but I always end up bumping my thigh on the armrest of the chair in the Deluxe Twin room, both last year and this year, which leaves bruises. The design might be nice, but the edges are a bit sharp and hard, so I think it could be a little dangerous. Also, during checkout, there was quite a delay in arranging for luggage shipment to my home. It would be great if this process could be more efficient.

  When I told the fron...

  When I told the front desk about leaving something in the taxi, they responded politely (all the staff were pleasant from check-in to check-out). The Room was spacious, with a separate bath where I could relax and soak. I would like to use this place again in the future. Thank you very much.
