Dogo Onsen
The hotel felt more stylish and distinctive than others nearby, and it was very clean and comfortable. The artwork throughout the hotel was also a lovely touch. There were few foreign guests in the baths, so I was able to relax without feeling stressed. Breakfast had plenty of variety, and I was satisfied. It was also conveniently close to Dogo Onsen’s main attractions. I would like to stay here again.

It’s a bit cramped for two, but I love this place.
We stayed in a double room. I was so pleased with my previous stay that I invited my husband along, but it did feel a little cramped for a middle-aged couple. I stayed for several nights myself, so it would have been helpful to borrow a basket for clothes and small items rather than having to take everything out of my suitcase each time. The hot spring was kept at a comfortable temperature. It opens at 6 a.m., but as a middle-aged guest visiting mainly for the hot spring, I would appreciate it opening about 30 minutes earlier. I love the efficient setup and the design of the building and rooms, and I plan to return on a solo trip.

Absolutely delighted!
The entire hotel was sleek and stylish, and our room was spacious and comfortable. The communal baths were quiet, and we loved the amenities and ReFa hair dryer! The hotel’s signature vinyl records seem to get mixed reviews, but we thoroughly enjoyed borrowing a variety of nostalgic records. We hope they keep them! In the evening, we enjoyed craft beer and a mandarin sour in the complimentary lounge, along with plenty of treats we picked up from nearby shops. Strolling around in yukata with a cute borrowed basket was also a special experience. In the morning, we visited Asuka-no-Yu, the Dogo Onsen annex. The website showed a 15-minute wait, but we got in right away, and it wasn’t busy. It had been crowded at night, so morning might be the best time to go!

Ideal for a business-style stay in Dogo Onsen.
All the staff were friendly and welcoming. The room was a little small but clean and good value for the price. My only disappointment was that the bath did not seem to have continuously flowing hot spring water. One minor point: the plastic laundry bag was hidden under the hair dryer bag, so it took a little while to find.

Absolutely fantastic!
The front desk staff were kind and attentive, with thoughtful touches such as towels for visiting the local public hot springs. The building itself was modern, clean, and stylish.

It was very clean.
The hotel and the room were clean. The downside was that the Wi-Fi was slow, which was disappointing. However, they lent us a pocket Wi-Fi device.

Not worth the price.
I added breakfast because so many reviews praised it, but it was completely average—just a typical business hotel breakfast. All rooms face either the parking lot or the neighboring building, so this hotel is not ideal if you dislike feeling boxed in. The hot spring baths also have a strong chlorine smell, so I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone hoping to enjoy the hot springs or the views. I don’t think it offers good value for money. Disappointing overall. The best I can say is that the service was decent. The record players crammed into every room just get in the way.

Hot Spring Hopping
I stayed in Dogo Onsen (Dogo Hakuro) for three nights in Ehime to enjoy a hot-spring tour. It’s a stylish, spotless onsen hotel, and I had a very comfortable stay. Breakfast was just as highly rated—everything, especially the vegetables, was very fresh and delicious. Dogo is also famous as Japan’s oldest hot-spring town, with free-flowing natural spring water that truly leaves your skin brighter and silky smooth. (My skin was in terrible shape from hay fever, so I especially felt the benefits.) There are also footbaths and day-use baths around the hotel, including Dogo Onsen Honkan, Asuka-no-Yu, and Tsubaki-no-Yu. It was great fun going from bath to bath in a yukata. They also lend you a basket to carry towels when you go out, which was very helpful. I’m currently traveling solo with the goal of visiting all 47 prefectures of Japan, and Ehime (Dogo Onsen), my 43rd prefecture, became a wonderful memory as a town with truly effective hot springs. Thank you very much.

Because I had always wanted to visit Dogo Onsen.
I had always wanted to visit Dogo Onsen, and this hotel made for an easy, comfortable stay, with its own hot spring bath. When I asked in advance about getting to the hotel, I was told it was such a short taxi ride that drivers might be reluctant to take me, and that most guests walked. I walked with my luggage, but pulling a suitcase was very difficult, especially over the cobblestone sections. I would definitely recommend taking a taxi if you have luggage. Although it is a business hotel, yukata robes, wooden sandals, indoor slippers, and even socks were provided, which was a lovely touch. When I requested a smaller yukata, the staff also brought smaller sandals. Thank you for being so thoughtful. The room is small, but there is enough space to open a small suitcase, and it is perfectly comfortable for one person. The sink and toilet areas were clean and well designed. I appreciated the toiletries, including skin lotion, available both in the hot spring bathing area and at reception. It was also nice to have brown rice tea and roasted green tea bags in the room. Hotels usually only provide coffee and green tea, so I always bring my own roasted green tea. This was a very welcome touch. The water at Dogo Onsen did not really feel like hot spring water to me at all, and family members staying at another hotel felt the same. While the water itself was not particularly impressive, I enjoyed exploring the surrounding area.

A fresh take on a hot spring hotel experience
It felt like a casual-style hot spring hotel that’s easy to use and easy to return to. My friend and I each stayed in separate single rooms. At night, we visited the Dogo Onsen Honkan and went out for sea bream rice. The hotel was functional, had a hot spring bath, and the breakfast was just right. Recommended for trips with female friends as well.

Trip with Friends

I stayed one night in Dogo Onsen to see the Mantra Cave at Ishige Shrine. This is a clean business hotel at a reasonable price. There is a large public bath on the first floor, and it has a ReFa hair dryer. The young men and women at the front desk were very polite and handled everything calmly.

A Compact and Comfortable Space
It was a pleasantly compact hotel, and we had a comfortable stay. Not only the guest room, but also the hot spring bath and dining area were very clean, making it a relaxing experience. It was also close to the Dogo Onsen hot spring district, so we could really enjoy the feeling of being on a trip.

Stylish Dormy Inn
I stayed next door at Dogo Miyu in 2022 and it was wonderful, so I decided to stay at this sister property as well. This hotel is perfect for business trips or solo travelers—highly functional and thoughtfully designed, comparable to Dormy Inn. It’s also stylish, with a record player in the room and Casa BRUTUS magazines in the lobby. Breakfast is plentiful, and considering today’s rising prices, the overall value is very satisfying. The rebuild of Hoso happened before construction costs surged, so the building is impressive, and every time I pass by I’m reminded what excellent management this is.

A perfectly balanced hotel with attentive service
Thank you for your hospitality. The hotel is in a great location, close to Dogo Onsen Honkan. It’s a small hotel, which I actually liked, and the front desk staff were very pleasant and helpful. The large public bath was relaxing—great! Personally, I like the policy of having guests eat dinner out; there are plenty of restaurants nearby, and it’s fun to look around while taking a walk. Breakfast was just the right amount—simple with no waste, which I appreciated. Thoughtful touches like take-away coffee when leaving and towels to wipe car windows dirtied by snowy roads really stood out. This is a hotel that makes you want to stay again.

Best Value Hotel
I was amazed by the great value—at this location, it includes breakfast, yukata and a haori jacket, plus an onsen, all for under 14,000 yen per night for two people. The breakfast was delicious, and both the shared areas and the private room were very clean—nothing to complain about. I would love to stay here again.

Relaxing Dogo

The room was too small.
I was shocked at how small the room was. On top of that, a huge record player took up more than half of the tiny table. It got in the way so much that I couldn’t even have tea or do my makeup. It may have been intended to help guests “relax,” but it felt counterproductive. Wouldn’t it be better to provide it only for guests who request it? There was also a humidifier, but it had no water in it. I tried to fill it, but the sink faucet angle made it impossible, and since there was only a shower faucet in the bathroom, I had no choice but to use a mug and refill it multiple times. What was that all about…? I didn’t use the hot spring, so I can’t rate it. The food was okay. Considering the price, my overall satisfaction was low.

Favorite Accommodation
Whenever I have business in Matsuyama, I stay here every time. A bike-share station has also opened behind the property, making it even more convenient. Since smart TVs are still uncommon in hotels in Ehime, this is a valuable place to stay for anyone who wants to relax in the Dogo area at night while watching videos.

Comfort that matches the price
Conveniently close to Dogo Onsen Honkan, yet a little removed from the downtown area, making the setting ideal. Most of my pre-arrival requests seemed to have been accommodated; however, regarding “quiet,” there were fairly loud noises from either next door or upstairs for a while late at night—perhaps unavoidable due to the building’s structure? I also paid an additional fee to extend my stay by one hour, but the cleaning noise from the neighboring room (which had already checked out) was quite loud. As a result, my plan to get a bit more sleep during that extra hour didn’t work out. Please ensure staff are mindful when guests are still in-house and properly hand over such points. Breakfast was excellent—especially the freshly made French toast, which was delicious. The other dishes were also very good, and I was surprised there were three kinds of soup. Since I wasn’t expecting much, it exceeded expectations. In the breakfast area you stop noticing it after a while once inside, but there was a strong natto smell, which was the only disappointment. I can eat natto, but is it really necessary? As for the room layout and amenities, they felt about as expected. Given this is an onsen town and guests may bathe multiple times even on a one-night stay, it would be even better if two towels per person were provided. I appreciated the complimentary bottle of water. Now about the record player: perhaps it’s inspired by Ace Hotel-style setups, but the stylus is worn out and the records are poorly stored. I borrowed different records as well, but they skipped badly and kept repeating in places—making it essentially pointless. Without it, you could use more table space; if proper maintenance isn’t possible, why not remove it? I’ve stayed at the original property too—their equipment is very well maintained. I’ve written many suggestions for improvement; however, for a short stay it offers good value for money and I would like to stay again. I hope this feedback is helpful.

It was more comfortable than I imagined.
It was my first stay. Although it was a busy schedule with just one night, I was comforted by the kindness of the staff. Unfortunately, I couldn't use the record player in the Room due to exhaustion, but I hope to visit again if I have another chance. This Hotel offers a unique experience different from luxury hotels and is highly recommended.
