    I discovered this pl...

    I discovered this place on YouTube and got interested, so I traveled from Osaka just to stay overnight. Because it was raining during my stay, I didn’t go out onto the terrace or up to the rooftop, but I really enjoyed the beer and wine during cocktail time from 3:00 PM. I also tried the unlimited breakfast the next morning, but I couldn’t eat an unlimited amount (lol). After checkout, I went to Umekoji Fermentation Lab, and it seems that if you’re staying at the Hotel you can drink alcohol there as well… so I’ve decided to come back for a retry. For now, I had a set of three sake tastings and then headed to the aquarium! It’s close to the Railway Museum and Kyoto Aquarium, and inside the Hotel there are table tennis, games, and more—so it’s packed like an amusement park and was plenty of fun even in the rain. Thank you very much. I think I’ll be back again!

    A Hotel with Plenty to Enjoy

    I checked in late and didn’t get to explore the property much, but the public bath was very charming and relaxing. Next time, I’d like to take it easy with a workshop or at the on-site cafe. Rather than a Hotel just for sightseeing, I felt it’s a place to enjoy the Hotel itself. Breakfast was delicious too—the fact that you can have as much as you like is great. I’d love to stay longer next time.

    The unlimited breakfast is amazing!

    I arrived exhausted from the heat, and I was so happy to be given a frozen hand towel. No matter how many luxury Hotels I’ve stayed at, there’s always been some dust or an area that wasn’t cleaned properly—but this Room was spotless in every corner! I stayed alone, but they even provided beer and snacks on arrival, so I had more than enough to enjoy my stay. Best of all was the breakfast you can eat anytime, anywhere, as many times as you like! It was delicious and fun—I couldn’t help getting excited. I didn’t use the public bath, so I can’t comment on it—sorry… I’d love to visit again!

    A fun stay with everything you need.

    It isn’t overly luxurious, but the building and Facilities are beautiful and very clean. I stayed on the third floor, and the pleasant aroma from the coffee corner filled the entire floor. The coffee is delicious! There are many related books such as Kurashi no Techo, and you can feel a strong sense of aesthetics throughout. There were many families with children, and I think it’s a place where kids and toddlers can spend time freely and comfortably. Features include Rooms with wooden flooring where you can take off your shoes, beer that you can casually pour from a dispenser, and a ceiling-mounted shower whose angle can be adjusted. I’m past the child-rearing stage myself, but even with small children you can relax in a stylish setting—highly recommended.

    It was excellent.

    The Room was clean—just as you’d expect from IKYU. The price felt fair. We were also very satisfied with the drinks, including alcohol. The area around the beer server tends to get dirty, but it was cleaned frequently, which was appreciated. However, the shower in the large public bath was fixed in place, and my wife slipped and fell while trying to twist her body to rinse off. Also, I wish the parking fee could be a bit cheaper.

    I’d love to stay here again.

    There was so much to enjoy during my time at the Hotel that it was good enough to become one of the main purposes of my trip. The “unlimited breakfast” ingredients and menu—such as Shindo’s bread, curry, and Ochazuke Lab—are carefully selected, making me want to stay again and again.

    I thoroughly enjoyed...

    I thoroughly enjoyed the Hotel from check-in right up until just before check-out. I was especially impressed that the staff kept the soft drink, alcohol, and snack areas clean at all times. The coffee was also great—you grind the beans yourself, and I loved being able to enjoy a delicious cup with a wonderful aroma. I planned to relax in my Room and read, but there were so many things to do—board games, table tennis, Jenga, and more—that I ended up having a lot of fun (lol). The hot bath was very relaxing, and the self-serve beer afterward tasted amazing! The “unlimited breakfast” was completely satisfying as well. Comparing four different curries was a highlight. I also appreciated being able to take it back to my Room in takeaway containers and eat at my own pace. Next time, I’d like to visit when the weather is pleasant and enjoy a meal on the terrace. Thank you for upgrading my Room—I truly appreciate your thoughtfulness. Thank you for such a wonderful stay.

    Unlimited Breakfast

    I used to stay here because I loved this Hotel’s breakfast, but since it changed to the “Unlimited Breakfast,” it has become very crowded and the quality has noticeably declined, which was disappointing. I understand that the service style has changed, but the previous breakfast had more variety and tasted better.

    Enjoy it your way.

    This was my first stay. Having a public bath and sauna was very appealing. The lounge was lively with many families, and the walkways felt a bit narrow. However, there were several areas to use, and I enjoyed it. Dinner was delicious. It was wonderful to enjoy a great meal without having to go out. Upgrading the main dish to beef for an additional fee was the right choice. Breakfast was fairly busy, but there were many ways to enjoy it, and I’d like to stay again if I have the chance.

    To celebrate my daughter’s birthday.

    We stayed here to celebrate our daughter’s birthday while visiting the aquarium. The meals were as delicious as last time, but it felt like the portions had gotten smaller again, which was a bit disappointing. I forgot to mention foods my daughter doesn’t like, so she was a little down when dessert included melon, but we were happy with the birthday plate. This time there was amazake-koji ice cream after the bath, which was perfect after using the public bath. We also enjoyed the complimentary drinks (including alcohol), and had a lovely time. There was also a “Twilight” time from 10 p.m., which we enjoyed. We heard breakfast had changed to a concept where you can have it freely anytime and anywhere, and we planned to take dessert back to our Room or up to the rooftop. However, there was less than last time—only pancakes and dango—so we ended up eating in the dining area, which was also disappointing. Still, overall we were satisfied with our stay. The amenities bar also had tea bags and more, so my daughter who doesn’t like coffee could relax comfortably. We would love to visit again if we have the chance. Thank you very much.

    The Ultimate Staycation

    I enjoyed a 3-night, 4-day staycation in Kyoto. Day 1: The Royal Park Hotel Iconic Kyoto Day 2: Hotel Granvia Kyoto Day 3: Umekoji Potel KYOTO Each stay focused on the lounge experience. Overall, Day 3 offered the best value and was the most enjoyable for a staycation. They offer various thoughtful experiences, and I think guests of all ages can enjoy them. Personally, since I’ve already tried the breakfast and public bath once, I plan to book room-only next time. I also realized for the first time that Hotel Granvia and Potel are part of the same group—no wonder they both felt like excellent hotels. I’m glad my final night was such a great stay. Thank you as well for your warm, smiling service at the front desk.

    Thank you for letting us stay at such a very reasonable rate this time. The unlimited breakfast system was in place, and about half of the menu had changed; everything was delicious and we ate a lot. It was a shame there was no almond tofu dessert!

    Highly satisfied.

    I was extremely satisfied with everything, including the Hotel’s cleanliness, service, and baths. Just as the Reviews said, drinks and nuts are truly available to enjoy freely. What’s more, they are high-quality drinks and nuts. Breakfast is also of excellent quality. I also thought it was wonderful that containers are provided so you can take items back to your Room; however, since there are plenty of containers available, some guests may end up using more than necessary, so it might be worth adding a small limit on how they are used. Other than that, I think it’s perfect. I will definitely stay again.

    We had a great time!

    We stayed because there was an amazing summer vacation Plan where Child Sharing Existing Bedding and breakfast were free for elementary school children. With the Railway Museum and aquarium nearby and Umekoji Park right in front, the hotel had many families like ours. There were free drinks and light snacks available in various areas, and you could also take them back to your Room, so they were delicious—I went back for seconds again and again. When the pot at the self-drip coffee corner wasn’t working due to a malfunction, I told a staff member and they responded right away. We arrived drenched in sweat, so we took a shower in the bath in our Room immediately and felt refreshed. I was surprised by how great the Cow Brand body soap was—such a lovely scent and rich lather! The same one was also available in the public bath designed like a traditional sento, and even the shampoo amenities smelled wonderful, which made me happy. Since it’s a sento-style bathhouse setup, adjusting the water temperature was difficult. Also, because the stools are quite low, I think it would be even better if taller chairs could be placed near the entrance for people with back pain or elderly guests (I later noticed there were some further inside). One more thing: in the restroom inside the bathing area—on the inside of the door—there is a long vertical vent where quite a bit of dust had collected along airflow lines; that was my only disappointment. There were also a sauna, cold plunge pool, and an open-air-style bath. And because it’s built like a sento, you can hear noise from next door’s men’s bath as well (and vice versa). There’s also a game corner and a small book area—the selection shows great taste. My daughter and I enjoyed board games many times. Personally, I was especially happy to read very old issues of “Kurashi no Techo” (all from before I was born!), which my mother used to love. The park area we used later at night during “adult time” felt underused—even though it seemed such a waste! Maybe that’s because there were so many families with small children. The make-your-own syrup-and-soda drinks offered during that time were incredibly delicious!! And finally: unlimited breakfast—it really lived up to its name. Everything tasted great. In particular, I loved the charcoal-grilled bacon and all kinds of vegetables steamed in bamboo baskets—they were amazing. The Shindo bread was also excellent. That said, each item served is quite large, so I thought smaller portions (thinner slices) might be nice too. I went back for more rice several times. I’d love to stay again.

    Unfriendly staff, parking issues, and poor check-in service.

    I believe I’ve stayed here about five or six times. I like the concept: it’s great to relax in your Room with a drink, enjoy listening to records, or unwind on the rooftop. It’s enjoyable whether you’re traveling alone or with family. However, there are two things I always notice. First, the staff do not smile (truly not at all). At the front desk and in the restaurant—especially the restaurant—why are you working with such unfriendly expressions? If customer service is not a good fit, I would recommend changing jobs. Second, the Hotel parking is quite expensive (JPY 2,500 per day/per night), yet it isn’t limited to guests. During peak season, even if you arrive before check-in time, it can already be full (perhaps because it’s next to an aquarium and a transportation museum). As this is an Accommodation business, you should consider some kind of solution for guests (for example, partnering with nearby parking lots—many Hotels do this). Kaden Sho is about a 5-minute walk away; they have plenty of parking spaces (you can reserve) and it costs JPY 1,500 per day/per night. Lastly, in the past—even when I arrived a bit early—you allowed me to complete check-in procedures and enter my Room if cleaning was finished. Was it because Obon is peak season? This time everyone was made to wait in the lobby until check-in procedures started at 3:00 PM, and there was a very long line. Even if Room access must wait, check-in should start earlier. I was waiting near the front desk so I could complete my check-in quickly, but those waiting on sofas had to line up afterward; even though they arrived before 3:00 PM, it likely took them more than 30 minutes before they could enter their Rooms. I don’t want our valuable time wasted due to poor Hotel handling.

    Highly recommended for families with children visiting Kyoto—a Hotel well worth staying at!

    We stayed here for a trip to Kyoto (2 adults and 1 child, 18 months old)! The all-you-can-drink options (alcoholic and soft drinks) and unlimited light snacks were great. There is also a kids’ space, and our child had a lot of fun! I assume they are cleaned, but I was slightly concerned that the indoor slippers are reused, and also that the parking is first-come, first-served. Breakfast had a wide variety of choices, including Kyoto-style steamed vegetables, and our child ate lots of vegetables too! Kyoto Aquarium is next door, and the Railway Museum is within walking distance, so this Hotel is highly recommended for families with children!

    The Room was spacious and comfortable.

    The Hotel kindly upgraded us to a larger Room. Our Room was very close to the elevator. Since it was a high-traffic area, we could hear some voices from the hallway, but it wasn’t an issue for us. The Room had a bathtub. We had planned to use the public bath, but after dinner it seemed crowded, so being able to use the bath in our Room was very helpful. The bathtub was spacious enough for our two elementary-school children to bathe together. There were plenty of complimentary drinks and snacks, which made it great for relaxing inside the Hotel. The interior is stylish throughout, but unless you check a map and get familiar with the layout, getting around can be a bit difficult. Using the stairs is fine, but it may be challenging for small children who are not yet steady walkers. The breakfast curry was authentic and delicious, with four different varieties. There weren’t standard egg dishes like scrambled eggs, but we would still like to stay again.

    The views are great, and the staff are kind.

    The surrounding trees are beautiful. We booked a corner Room. From my parents’ Room, they could see To-ji Temple and the Shinkansen, which made them very happy. The cleaning is thorough. All the staff were smiling, and we felt their warm hospitality. We would like to come again.

    Packed with perks!

    This was my second stay, and just as when you first opened, the Facility and guest rooms were clean and beautiful, making my stay very pleasant. I was also impressed by how frequently the drinks and snacks were replenished. This time, things felt even more upgraded—you could enjoy complimentary alcohol at the liquor shop in front of Poteyu, and breakfast had become an unlimited breakfast. I was very satisfied to be able to enjoy so many things at a reasonable price.

    The worst ever.

    I stay here every year, but this year was the worst. It was our first time bringing our child, so we booked for three—but it felt like they forced an extra bed into a two-person Room. On top of that, the food quality had declined, and the staff’s attitude at checkout was poor. At the very least, a greeting would have been appropriate. It wasn’t a cheap Accommodation fee, yet it ended up being the worst birthday present.

    A Rainy Day Off

    My spouse and I stayed here to relax in Kyoto. We checked in in the early afternoon, left our luggage, and then visited the Kyoto Railway Museum across the street. After check-in, we spent a relaxing time in the lounge with coffee and a book.\nThe next morning, we left the Hotel at 5:00 a.m. for the Kyoto City Central Wholesale Market—about a 10-minute walk. If you walk from Umekoji-Kyotonishi Station to Hotel Emion Kyoto via the covered walkway, it connects directly from the second floor to the market’s viewing area. Auctions started here and there around 5:15 a.m., and we enjoyed seeing the lively morning atmosphere.\nWe returned to the Hotel around 6:00 a.m., watched the World Cup on TV, and had breakfast after 7:00. After relaxing again in our Room, we went back for a second breakfast after 10:00. The Japanese options were also excellent, and we ended up eating enough for lunch as well.\nThe staff at both reception and the restaurant were very kind, making this trip extremely satisfying. Thank you very much.

    A Fun Hotel One Stop from Kyoto Station

    We stayed on a weekday right after the start of summer vacation. There were a few children around, but during meals it was quiet, and we were able to enjoy dinner in a calm atmosphere. The service was attentive as well. With complimentary drinks available throughout the Hotel, an adjacent koji shop, and a bath styled like a retro Showa-era public bathhouse, it was such a fun place that we wanted to stay forever. I stayed with my elderly mother, and there wasn’t a single inconvenience; all the staff were kind, everything was clean, and the design sense was excellent. On our way home we said, “When we come to Kyoto, this is the place.” Unlike bland Hotels near the station, this is a Hotel that leaves you feeling warm inside.

    I always have a pleasant stay here.

    I had a very pleasant stay again for two nights. I liked that breakfast was available without time limits, so I could relax and eat at my preferred time without worrying about the clock. The housekeeping staff member was from overseas, but was friendly and worked very hard, which made me happy. The sauna clock was broken, which was inconvenient for three days. Please be prepared to respond quickly with issues like this in mind. The bath area and the air purifier were covered in dust, and cleaning staff did not come at all, so there was hair around and it felt unhygienic. I told the woman at the bath reception desk, but she was unfriendly and replied with just “Yes,” which left me with an unpleasant impression. That part was disappointing. I have been using this place for a long time, and you often make improvements and introduce new things, so I look forward to visiting. Thank you.

    The Facility was excellent.

    I’m in my 50s, originally from Kyoto and now living in Osaka, and I enjoy staying at a Hotel about once a month. I mainly stay in the Kansai area, and this year I became an IKYU Diamond member. On a weekday, I made a same-day Reservation for one night with breakfast included in a Wood Flat Twin Room for around the 10,000-yen range, and stayed with my high-school-aged daughter. The Room was very spacious compared with other Hotels in the same class, and the beds were on the firmer side and very comfortable. The service is generous—you can enjoy draft beer, alcohol-free wine, and coffee ground from whole beans. The Facility also includes a public bath and an area where you can listen to records, which was very relaxing. Overall, it’s a comfortable Hotel with great value for money. What disappointed me was that everything at breakfast was lukewarm—there wasn’t any piping-hot food at all. There is no live kitchen; steamed dishes, soup, rice, and side dishes were all lukewarm. Since this Hotel seems to target families with young children (so they won’t get burned even if something spills), this may be intentional—but for our family who wants hot food served hot, it was very disappointing. The selection isn’t large; however, there were some unique items you don’t often see elsewhere such as four kinds of Indian curry. The watermelon fruit was delicious. We stayed during the last week of July; perhaps because there was a campaign offering free Child Sharing Existing Bedding up to elementary school age, there were many families with infants/toddlers and elementary school children. We hardly saw families with junior-high or high-school students or elderly couples—the kind you often see at Hotels on weekdays. The location (Umekoji) may be part of it as well; however since it’s only one stop from Kyoto Station and the Facilities and services are comfortable overall, I feel that if the dining content improved as well then more older guests would likely visit on weekdays. That said, since there are many highly rated Hotels in the Umekoji area, I assume they are differentiating themselves by focusing on families with younger children—but given how well-equipped they are for adults too (alcohol-free drinks and coffee service, baths/spa-style bathing options), it also feels like a missed opportunity. I was very satisfied with the Facilities overall, so I’d like to stay again during a time when there are fewer children around.

    Wonderful

    The entire property had a bright, welcoming atmosphere. From the entrance staff onward, everyone was so kind and positive, and the other guests also seemed happy—it truly felt comfortable and relaxing. I also loved being able to help myself to drinks freely and spend time in various areas; it suited my travel style perfectly. Next time, I’d like to enjoy a Multiple Night Stay at a leisurely pace. The Room had no strange odors at all, and the toilet was very clean. Thank you very much. I’ll be back again. One small thing—sorry—but the breading on the beef cutlet was a bit greasy/sticky…

    Relax and unwind.

    The public bath was excellent, and the free-flow drinks were great as well. With the city just nearby, the location let us escape the bustle and relax at ease. We only used the breakfast option, but there was such a wide variety of Kyoto-inspired ingredients served in a gentle, thoughtful way that we ended up eating too much. It’s become a place we’d love to visit again.

    A fun hotel for the whole family.

    This was our second stay, following our visit in January. There are many Hotels in Kyoto I’d like to try, but when traveling with our 18-month-old child, we haven’t found any Hotel with better conditions than Potel. The playroom is spacious enough for a child to run around a bit, and it has a wooden ball pit and a picture-book corner. The breakfast menu is excellent and easy to share even for a baby in the later weaning stage. The Room size is great, the staff are kind to children, and the location—close to Kyoto Aquarium, the Kyoto Railway Museum, and Umekoji Park—is perfect. Everything is outstanding! On this stay, we were also happy that the alcohol service hours had been extended. We also appreciated being able to enjoy the breakfast buffet not only at the breakfast venue but in our Room as well, which made it easier to match our child’s eating pace.
