    Even though it was t...

    Even though it was the day of the Gion Festival Yamaboko Junko parade and there were many guests, I had a comfortable stay. I went to the Onsen early, so it wasn’t crowded and I could relax. Breakfast offered a wide variety of options and was delicious—I ended up eating too much. I would like to stay again.

    Subtle Kyoto!

    I’m a returning guest. Last time I didn’t really notice, but the rabbit figure in a chirimen outfit displayed in the niche along the hallway to the Room felt like a lovely touch that instantly evokes the atmosphere of Kyoto. Of course, the flowers arranged on the wall are also wonderful! If possible, it would be perfect to have fresh ikebana at the entrance.

    The bath and breakfast are excellent!

    Within walking distance of Kyoto Station, with an excellent breakfast and bath. In particular, I really appreciated being able to use the bath late at night, when other Hotels are already closed. The breakfast buffet was outstanding—freshly fried tempura, sukiyaki, and seafood rice bowls—possibly No. 1 in this price range. Also great value: Yakult in the morning, and free ramen and ice cream at night. It’s easy to see why it was fully booked and busy. This time I stayed for business, but I’d like to come back with my family someday.

    Very satisfied.

    It was my first visit to Kyoto in two years, timed for when inbound tourism had settled down. I stayed at a Hotel I had wanted to try for a long time and was almost completely satisfied. I hadn't made a Reservation for breakfast, but they kindly accommodated me, and it was very delicious.

    Overall satisfied, but if I had to...

    Stayed for 3 nights at the end of the year. I had read reviews about the entire accommodation being tatami-floored, and while I thought it wouldn't bother me as I'm not particularly sensitive, I noticed suitcase wheel marks even inside the room. Seeing others wearing cloth slippers made me wish I had brought my own from home. Since it was year-end, breakfast was understandably crowded. On the first day, arriving at 6:45 AM meant a 45-minute wait. From the next day, having figured out a strategy, I avoided waiting by returning to my room or enjoying an onsen in the meantime. The breakfast itself was good but could have been even better with options like noodles or porridge. The baths were varied and enjoyable; "Meditation Bath" was exceptional. The foreign guests were considerate with their manners, making for a pleasant experience. The staff were all kind and made my stay enjoyable and comfortable overall. However, having tatami flooring throughout turned out to be a bit of an inconvenience for me personally.

    Thoughts from a True Fan of Dormy Inn

    I was surprised to find that the Ryokan required guests to remove their shoes upon arrival. Despite this, suitcases were rolled inside with their wheels untouched. The lobby was filled with many stored suitcases, including those from inbound travelers. It’s unclear where these suitcase wheels had been—possibly even public restrooms at train stations. Although there were cleaning cloths at the entrance for shoes, the suitcase wheels were not cleaned and remained in their outdoor state. This was the most shocking aspect for me and did not feel hygienic or clean. Guests entered rooms directly after this, which made me uncomfortable about cleanliness even inside my room. I felt uneasy about my socks and could not trust the hygiene of the space. Other reviews have mentioned similar concerns, but no improvements seem to have been made. There were no disinfectants available in either the lobby or rooms, which was disappointing as I usually love Dormy Inn hotels. That said, all staff members were kind and hospitable—a hallmark of Dormy Inn service. Disposable slippers are available upon request, so I had to make do by being creative during my stay. Another issue worth mentioning is how some foreign guests behaved during their stay. In the women’s bath area, a group of Chinese guests spoke loudly without pause—it felt overwhelming just listening to them shout as if they were arguing loudly rather than conversing normally. What shocked me most was seeing a Chinese guest enter wearing disposable paper underwear in place of proper bathing attire! Although a staff member cleaning near the changing area noticed this behavior, they did not intervene or provide guidance on appropriate conduct for using shared facilities like baths properly (e.g., whether entering water while still wearing such items might occur). This lack-of-enforcement raises questions regarding overall hygiene standards maintained within communal spaces like baths when rules aren’t strictly communicated/enforced among international visitors unfamiliar w/ Japanese customs/traditions surrounding public bathing etiquette specifically designed around maintaining cleanliness/safety universally across all users equally regardless nationality/language barriers present potentially causing misunderstandings/misinterpretations leading unintended consequences negatively impacting experience quality overall detrimentally affecting reputation long-term sustainability success future growth prospects ultimately resulting decreased domestic customer retention rates significantly jeopardizing profitability margins operational     No shoes allowed inside the facility.

    Shoes are not allowed inside the accommodation, and only thin socks commonly provided at Onsen accommodations were available. The same socks are worn in front of the reception, in the elevator, along the hallways, and even in the room. While I was concerned about how hygiene is maintained in such a large facility, seeing people rolling their suitcases all the way to their rooms made me feel dissatisfied with this environment. If I had known beforehand, I would have brought my own; however, for an accommodation in this price range, I did not expect this to be necessary.

    It was relaxing.

    It was a scorching trip to Kyoto, but thanks to this accommodation, I was able to relax and recover from the fatigue of walking. I was surprised that most of the other guests were foreigners, but the hotel's hospitality was excellent, making it a satisfying stay. Thank you very much.

    The accommodation had a wonderful traditional Japanese ambiance. The onsen was spacious and excellent. The breakfast offered both Japanese and Western options, making it a highly satisfying stay.

    I was able to relax.

    I stayed with my mother. The spacious Hollywood twin Room had a simple interior. We were able to relax and unwind. We were pleasantly surprised by the drink and nighttime ramen service. I felt that it was a Hotel with many thoughtful touches. The bath was also spacious and clean! The hairdryers were from ReFa and Panasonic's Nanoe series. It was a fulfilling time for the heart.

    Kyoto-ness.

    The atmosphere from the front desk to each floor, and the tatami flooring throughout the facility, created a very relaxing space. The large public bath was enjoyable with various tubs available. Breakfast time was crowded. For some reason, you had to line up and take items in order, which was inconvenient as you had to pass by areas without what you wanted. It took time even though I wanted to quickly grab my favorite items. Other than that, everything was satisfactory.

    During my 3-night stay, I had breakfast included for 2 nights and no breakfast for 1 night. As it was my first time staying here, I was honestly worried about whether the price (which was about 10,000 yen higher than usual due to the January holiday) would be satisfactory, but I decided based on the very good reviews. ● Facility: The interior is very clean and well-maintained. ● Onsen: There were multiple baths with various water temperatures which were great. I thought there were enough washing areas, lockers, and sinks in the changing room. It was also nice to have a trash can in the washing area (since I brought my own cosmetics). ● Guest Room: Having a sitting space in the shower booth was excellent. It wasn't just convenient when taking a shower but also when wanting to wash just your feet after returning to your room. The towel rack, storage space under the TV, simple table etc., seemed designed for multiple night stays as well. Having a door when entering the bedroom is extremely good; it reduces noise from other guests in hallways etc., and improves air conditioning efficiency thanks to this door too. However, one star less because of slightly low bed height and hard chair in room. ● Amenities: Almost everything necessary was provided so I'm satisfied. ● Service: Being on a multiple night stay made me wonder if amenities or towels could be exchanged? But they kindly responded anytime allowing me cleanliness & comfort throughout my stay; every staff member approached with smiles & kindness—this aspect especially felt worth more than its price! Thank you very much. ● Facility/Equipment: Free ice cream bars & water dispensers (cold/hot), hot coffee etc., were nice; though having tea would’ve been appreciated too! Overall satisfaction nonetheless! ● Manners: There are notices regarding bathing manners inside bathrooms but nobody reads them while naked upon entering—they want quick entry especially if vacant! I've visited facilities handing out multilingual manner notices at check-in before—perhaps consider this? Though against paperless times seeing calmly might improve things further already done sorry >< Would like mobile use stopped within changing rooms including non-Japanese language calls being made there too please stop that happening again thank you!

However minus one star because bed height felt slightly low & chair inside room seemed hard. ● Amenities: Almost everything necessary was available so I'm satisfied overall though brought own razor/hairbrush since worried about quality otherwise. ● Customer Service: Was concerned whether amenities/towels/in-house wear could be exchanged during multiple night stay but staff kindly accommodated anytime allowing me comfortable clean experience throughout entire visit regardless whom approached always greeted warmly & helpfully exceeding expectations thank you! ● Breakfast: Went early morning avoiding crowds yet many others had same idea resulting moderate crowding depending date used approximately forty-five minutes before leaving noticing increased congestion glad went first thing seafood rice bowl tempura praised deliciously prepared enjoyed thoroughly! ● Facility/Equipment: Managed several visits onsens utilizing complimentary massage chairs rare occurrence apparently lol felt amazing free ice candy water server hot/cold coffee appreciated would've liked tea option though overall highly satisfied!!

    Concerned about breaches of etiquette.

    I stayed at Onyado Nono in Kanazawa twice before and liked it, so this time I stayed at the Kyoto Shichijo location for the first time. As expected from a representative tourist destination of Japan, most of the guests were foreign tourists. Perhaps due to not understanding the language or culture, there were several guests from the mainland who brought their bath baskets into the large public bath, getting them soaked. Some sat on the chairs in the dressing room's wash area while still soaking wet, and there were also guests with tattoos bathing. This is an issue of guest manners and not the fault of the property, but I don't think I will repeat my stay.

    It was really great.

    I didn't expect much because I thought it was a Business Hotel I wouldn't usually stay at. However, the tatami lobby from the entrance was refreshing, and the large public bath with its open-air bath and various types was enjoyable. The night soba after the bath was light and delicious, and even though I was really exhausted from the morning, it was soothing and relaxing. The staff were casually kind, and the whole Hotel had a very calming atmosphere, perhaps because there were many foreign tourists. Next time, I would like to stay alone.

    The bath is amazing.

    The large public bath is structured on two floors, and there are many bathtubs. It was an enjoyable bath. Although it was a Saturday, there were surprisingly few people using the large public bath, perhaps because there were many foreigners, so it was relatively empty. The breakfast is famous, but I would like to go again just to enjoy the bath.

    Stays were clean and...

    Stays were clean and the service was good. However, regarding the room, there was a body odor like sweat from the previous guest that remained in the room, and even after opening the window for ventilation, it did not improve, which was frustrating. I believe you can have a pleasant stay if you are lucky enough not to encounter such a room.

    It is average.

    Given the nature of Kyoto, it can't be helped, but the guests at this accommodation are mostly foreigners. At check-in, they occupied the very center of the entrance with their large luggage, making it quite a struggle to take off my shoes and enter. Even in the room, they opened the doors and talked loudly with their friends in the neighboring or opposite rooms, and the children were noisy, making it a terrible experience. While it's also a matter of morals, I felt that more consideration is needed in terms of room allocation and welcoming guests. Other than that, it was ordinary.
