    A relaxing Shodoshima stay that begins with a ferry journey

    From the moment we boarded the Jumbo Ferry and quietly headed to Shodoshima while gazing out at the sea, it already felt like we were leaving everyday life behind and unwinding. When we arrived, we were soothed by the welcoming staff’s smiles. Everyone was very kind, and we were truly able to take our time. I think this Accommodation is perfect for getting away from daily life and relaxing both body and mind. The building is a renovated former soy sauce wholesaler’s residence, so rather than feeling like a Hotel, it felt cozy—like staying in a stylish country home belonging to relatives or friends. There was a platform in the garden for stargazing; behind the house there were chickens and a vegetable patch, and it was wonderfully quiet. The night sky was beautiful, and we enjoyed a pace of time that felt uniquely Shodoshima. The corn we received from the garden was also delicious. The kitchen was well stocked with cookware and seasonings; there was also a washing machine and detergent. The bath was spacious, and there were two toilets. Even with four people staying, it was comfortable with no stress at all. In the morning, bread, fruit, yogurt, and more were prepared for us. Once you actually visit Shodoshima, having a car makes sightseeing much more convenient. Since we don’t drive, we asked the Accommodation to arrange a paid sightseeing tour for us, which let us enjoy the island very efficiently. If you’re visiting without a car, I think you’ll feel more at ease if you discuss transportation options in advance. The bar—created by renovating an old storehouse behind the main house—was also a calm and lovely space. We had stocked up at supermarkets and liquor stores before arriving; but if we had known beforehand how well equipped both the kitchen and bar are, cooking dinner at the Accommodation with local ingredients would have been fun too. On Shodoshima in the evening, restaurants may close early and taxis can be hard to secure at times, so enjoying an unhurried meal at your Accommodation is also recommended. Because this is an older residence thoughtfully preserved as part of its charm، there are steps inside، so some guests may need to take extra care۔ And since it’s surrounded by nature، there are mosquitoes、 horseflies، etc., but insect repellent ointment (such as Muhi) was properly provided. More than anything else، what stayed with me most was the staff’s warm consideration۔ Rather than simply accepting their kindness， it made us want to cherish this place as well while staying here—this kind of Accommodation. Including the Jumbo Ferry journey， it was a stay where we could savor “the luxury of doing nothing.” I’d love to stay again when I want to slow down on Shodoshima once more.

    Birthday Trip

    We stayed here to celebrate a birthday!! The food, Room, and Facility were all perfect! In particular, harvesting vegetables and collecting eggs from the chickens were truly valuable experiences! We’d love to come again.

    My in-laws and toddler were very satisfied.

    Simply the best. My in-laws also raved, saying it “felt like a dream.” [Building] Among all the traditional Japanese houses we’ve stayed in, this Accommodation blended historic charm with modern amenities better than any other. There are plenty of Rooms (including on the second floor), and they’re spaced out well enough to maintain privacy—so it felt easy to stay even with a large group. No musty smell or dustiness, and it didn’t feel overly modern either. With a fully equipped kitchen, tableware, and a washer-dryer, it was very convenient for families with small children. The 150-year-old kura bar was also something truly special. If our child were a bit older, we would have loved to play the board games there. The sauna is for one person, but it’s authentic and heats up to nearly 100°C. The bath is spacious and relaxing. We were warned in advance about insects, but honestly we didn’t notice that at all. [Meals] If you’re staying at such a beautiful estate-style property, I highly recommend the Plan that includes inviting a chef. The Japanese cuisine chef treated us to an outstanding meal. With rare ingredients like kuju and junsai, and finishing with sweets and matcha—it was incredibly satisfying. Breakfast was also amazing: vegetables we picked from the garden with our child and the provided fruit were unbelievably delicious—an eye-opener. [Hospitality] We were very satisfied with the quick responses and thoughtful care throughout. When our child got a nosebleed and slightly stained a pillowcase, they handled it kindly as well.

    The finest Accommodation offering exceptional hospitality

    We stayed for 1 night with 2 adults on a birthday trip for my partner. We chose the Plan with a private chef service, and a local island chef made sushi right in front of us. He was friendly and kind, so we could enjoy the meal while chatting—it was a truly special experience. The food tasted exceptional, the portions were generous, and we were very satisfied. After dinner, we had drinks at the Kura BAR. Even if you don’t drink alcohol, there is a great selection of soft drinks, so you can feel at ease. We tried drinks unique to Shodoshima, and they were delicious. The Accommodation’s Facility is not only spacious—every corner is stylish and beautiful, and you can really feel the owner’s attention to detail. There are four bedrooms; we couldn’t use them all with just two people, but we used two rooms—one for naps and one for sleeping at night. While our meal was being prepared, relaxing in the tatami room while listening to cicadas was simply perfect. The stone bath is also large. It takes about an hour to fill with hot water, but the owner filled it for us during dinner time—his kindness warmed our hearts as well. With the window open, a pleasant breeze came in through the bath area. The morning bath was wonderful too, with sunlight streaming in. It seems you’re allowed to harvest any vegetables from the garden field as well—we picked four tomatoes in the morning. They were crisp and tasty! The fruit prepared for breakfast was sweet too. Having breakfast while looking out at the garden was truly one of a kind. More than anything else, what made us glad we chose this Accommodation was the owner’s personality. Even during Shuttle Service pickup/drop-off he responded flexibly to our needs, which helped us so much. He is very knowledgeable; whenever we asked questions about the island he could answer anything. He laughed that “the birds will eat them,” referring to his vegetables—I felt he has such a calm nature (in a good way). He also took several commemorative photos for us—and he’s genuinely great at taking pictures! You can really sense his taste there too. In any case, he is incredibly kind and offers far more hospitality than I can possibly fit into one Review…! If I have another chance to visit Shodoshima, I would love to stay at Oyashiki Stay Sachi again. One night wasn’t enough—next time I hope we can stay two nights.

    The ultimate relaxation time with your siblings.

    We chose this entire-home Accommodation to relax and spend quality time as siblings, and it was even more comfortable than we imagined. Listening to the rain and taking things slow made our time at the Accommodation truly special. The living room with its large beams, the comfortable chairs, and the tasteful items passed down from an old family home created a wonderful sense of calm in a charming, traditional setting. For dinner, we arranged a private chef. Every dish was carefully prepared with great ingredients and absolutely delicious. We also enjoyed chatting with the chef, and it was such a joy to be able to relax together like this. It was pure bliss. By morning the rain had stopped and the weather was beautiful. We strolled around the garden and fields and even said hello to the chickens. The scrambled eggs were exceptional. Next time, I’d love to come with our grandchildren for vegetable and fruit-picking experiences. We had also booked a private tour, and the owner responded thoughtfully and flexibly throughout, making it a wonderful trip to Shodoshima. We were truly impressed by Yuki’s hospitality during our stay at this residence. Next time, we’d like to visit in a different season with our grandchildren.

    It was an unforgettable experience! Highly recommended.

    We stayed for one night as a birthday trip with my partner. It was simply amazing—highly recommended. [What we especially loved] - Facilities A huge traditional house, a BAR renovated from a storehouse (with a projector!), four bedrooms, a vegetable garden and chicken coop, and a semi-open-air bath with sauna…everything was fully equipped, well maintained, and spotless. As this Accommodation is limited to one group per day, it’s naturally private, but every time the staff introduced another Facility at check-in we were amazed and kept thinking, “Are we really allowed to use all of this?” The kitchen is spacious and there are two toilets as well, so I think even a larger group of around 7–8 people could stay comfortably. The decorative items displayed throughout were also wonderful! - Meals We chose the shabu-shabu Plan and the meat was incredibly delicious! Many items—such as drinks in the storehouse BAR, soy sauce and coffee beans in the kitchen, and bread for breakfast—were also made on Shodoshima, which showed great attention to detail. - Hospitality Right before our stay I asked several questions via LINE (such as whether we could buy snacks on the island to enjoy with drinks), and they replied kindly and thoroughly. At check-in they guided us carefully through the Facilities and shared recommended sightseeing spots on Shodoshima—we truly appreciated their warm hospitality. [Things that might bother some guests] - Steps/level differences There are small steps in several places inside the building. Guests with mobility issues may find it slightly inconvenient. - Parking/access road It felt a little narrow even with a compact car. We were told there is also a slightly larger parking area for bigger vehicles. - Insects The property includes vegetable fields, fruit trees, a chicken coop, and gardens—surrounded by nature. Because of that we often encountered insects when looking around outside. If you’re not comfortable with bugs, please be aware (we didn’t see any insects inside the building). Overall, it was such an amazing Accommodation that if we stay on Shodoshima again, this would be our only choice. It became an unforgettable memory—thank you so much!

    An exceptional experience beyond just Accommodation

    We stayed as two families with children. What surprised us on arrival was that one group can rent the entire expansive grounds and buildings exclusively. The garden and the house were beautifully maintained, and everywhere we looked there were thoughtful touches and little discoveries—you could feel the spirit of hospitality in every detail. Items originally from the old family home, things harvested from the garden, and handmade pieces by the owner were casually placed throughout, and their natural presence was truly wonderful. There are also plenty of comfortable Facilities that make use of the charm of this traditional home—delicious well water, a naturally silky bath, and a sauna where you can enjoy löyly. For dinner we arranged a visiting Italian chef. Every dish was delicious, bringing out the natural flavors of the ingredients with a gentle taste that felt good for the body—so we ended up enjoying quite a bit of wine. Both the owner and the chef were friendly and warm, allowing us to relax and enjoy our meal in complete privacy. After dinner we headed to the kura bar. The adults enjoyed Mamemame Beer at the first-floor counter, while the kids used upstairs like a secret hideout—bringing snacks and toys and watching anime on the projector. Both adults and children were able to spend time exactly as they liked. Our kids usually rely on digital devices, but during our stay they didn’t touch their phones at all—they were completely absorbed in exploring inside the house and around the grounds. They even learned all three chickens’ names at once in front of them (and went back to see them again and again). They wanted so badly to see freshly laid eggs that they woke up early the next morning just to wait. The vegetable garden is full of vegetables and fruit trees, too. We were told what was best to harvest that day, so we got to enjoy picking produce together with our children. On departure we had to move our schedule forward for our own reasons, but they kindly accommodated us with great flexibility—we’re very grateful. The place they stopped by along our route was also wonderful. Throughout our trip as a whole, it’s rare to find such attentive care during a stay. Thank you for an amazing experience that went far beyond Accommodation. We would love to visit again.

    We were able to relax and enjoy our stay as three generations.

    We stayed on our Shodoshima trip with three generations—10 people in total: my parents, our family, and my sibling’s family. The estate grounds were truly spacious, and it was wonderful not having to worry about disturbing anyone even when the kids got loud. The children had a great time exploring the house and garden together with their cousins. Being able to harvest vegetables in the fields and feed the chickens—experiences you can’t have in the city—was another big plus. I’d always wanted to give them opportunities like this, so it was a great chance for food education as well. Inside, everything was spotless and very clean. The impressive house paired beautifully with the display of antique furnishings, making this an outstanding Accommodation where we could experience refined living. With four separate bedrooms, each family could enjoy their own privacy, which we really appreciated. Honestly, one night wasn’t enough to fully enjoy the Accommodation, so next time we’d like a Multiple Night Stay and try out the Kura Bar too. We will definitely be back!

    The Best Experience

    We had an amazing experience. Spotless cleanliness like a top-class Hotel, a variety of Rooms full of fun, and experiences you can’t get at a Hotel. For dinner, we chose the style of cooking for ourselves and enjoyed Olive Beef and Olive Pork. Because we could do everything ourselves, we saved a little of the ingredients and enjoyed them again the next morning. In the morning, we drank coffee while listening to birds singing. Before breakfast, we went to collect eggs from the chickens and fed them. We also picked and ate fresh vegetables. It was a wonderful time for both kids and adults. *Location If you have a large vehicle, please be mindful of the vehicle width. I don’t think there’s much that can be improved due to the location... The owner is present and will guide you, so it feels reassuring. If you have a large vehicle, it may be best to consult in advance.

    It exceeded my expectations.

    I was looking for an out-of-the-ordinary stay—somewhere not like a typical Hotel or Ryokan—and this place was exactly what I wanted. It’s a renovated former residence of someone who made their living producing soy sauce, and it beautifully blends old and new: the historic building has been preserved while modern Facilities have been added for comfort, making our stay extremely pleasant. My personal highlight was that the water isn’t from the tap but from a well—the cool water in the morning and evening tasted wonderfully fresh. Since we wanted to relax at our own pace, we chose a Plan with shabu-shabu dinner included, and we were able to enjoy delicious local beef and pork whenever we liked. With the unfortunate rain, it turned out to be the perfect choice. They also offered a wide variety of soy sauces and ponzu, so we could compare different seasonings as well. At the bar converted from an approximately 150-year-old storehouse, they served drinks from wineries and breweries we couldn’t possibly visit within our limited time there, which made for a great experience. We were unsure how to adjust our sightseeing plans before and after checkout since the rain kept us from going everywhere we wanted, but the owner was very flexible. By settling payment remotely via PayPay without being tied to a fixed checkout time, we were able to plan our schedule much more freely. This time we stayed as a family of three, but with plenty of Rooms available, it seems suitable for many different types of trips.

    Birthday Trip

    We stayed here for a birthday trip. The grounds are very spacious, surrounded by fields and trees in a quiet setting. The plum blossoms were in bloom, and the garden was wonderful, letting us truly feel the season. The building is a renovated former soy sauce shop, and its charming character and calm atmosphere were so comfortable—an unusual getaway that still felt warmly nostalgic. For dinner, an island chef came to cook for us on-site, and we were able to enjoy a relaxed meal in complete privacy. Every dish made with local ingredients was truly delicious, and it was a special experience you can only have here—perfect for an important anniversary. The owner couple and the chef clearly love Shodoshima, and they kindly shared recommended sightseeing spots and places to eat, which made our time exploring the island even more fulfilling. We would definitely like to stay here again when we visit Shodoshima. Thank you very much.
