We stayed for 2 nights and 3 days with three family members and one small dog.

Perhaps this was originally a surfer’s vacation home—there are plenty of Hawaii-inspired photos and decorations in the entryway and throughout the house. Seeing the sticker on the range hood and the wooden paddle displayed in the bedroom, it seems the owner may have had ties to Buffalo Keaulana, a famous Hawaiian waterman (legendary lifeguard/surfer). There’s also a surfboard displayed in the dining area. This entire home is located at the foot of a mountain, slightly away from the village, so you can stay without worrying about neighbors. You can also see the ocean from the dining area and kitchen, and if the weather is good you’ll likely be able to catch sunrise as well. The house was very clean, and we were able to relax as if we were at home. Our dog was a bit unsettled at first but got used to it within about half a day; however, we couldn’t find the dog amenities set that was supposed to be provided. We didn’t order meals, so we bought groceries at a supermarket about 5 minutes away by car (ODOYA). There’s also a roadside station where you can buy seafood and more. Tateyama is about a 30-minute drive away and has AEON and a larger ODOYA, so if you’re coming from Tokyo it might be convenient to shop there beforehand. The kitchen is fully stocked with seasonings and cooking utensils. It takes about 10 minutes on foot to reach the beach. Since it was our dog’s first time seeing the ocean, he seemed to love running around on the sand. Near Chikura Station there’s a dog-friendly restaurant (Casa Marina). The building is old, but the food was delicious. Because it rained we couldn’t use the restaurant at Roadside Station Chikura, but about 15 minutes away by car there’s an organic restaurant called Tulsi with a dog run. We didn’t have any major complaints during our stay; if I had to mention something, it would be that both kitchen and bathroom faucets worked in reverse (lift up for water / push down for water), which made me accidentally run too much water in the kitchen several times. Also, there was one window where people could see straight into part of upstairs from outside; I thought a roller shade would have been helpful. Please note that the toilet clogs easily. Since this used to be a surfer’s vacation home, there’s an exterior door that leads directly into one of bathrooms—which surprised us at first—but bathroom itself is clean and nice. My family even said we’d like to stay one more night next time—so I hope we can come back again.

    I had a pleasant stay.

We stayed with four adults and two dogs. By the bedside, there were a cot bed for the dogs, pet pads, and dog diapers provided, which was very helpful. The meals were separated for dinner and breakfast and stored in the refrigerator, and instructions were included, so preparing them was easy. We were very satisfied with both the portion size and the taste! The hayashi rice was delicious. The sauna also got properly hot—very satisfying as well. Convenience stores and supermarkets are nearby, so it’s easy to buy extra drinks. We bought spiny lobster at Roadside Station Chikura, and it was great that the provided cookware and tableware were large enough to handle it easily. It was so comfortable that we relaxed until right before checkout—sorry we couldn’t tidy up much. It was a wonderful break for us (and our dogs). Even before our stay, your email communication was very courteous, which made us feel at ease. We’d love to stay again. Thank you very much.

    Overall, it was good.

We stayed with three generations, seven people, and one small dog. The space was very spacious and comfortable. The cleaning seemed thorough. The beds were comfortable to sleep on, but we felt a bit of humidity. Since the bedrooms are on the lower floor, it might be due to the structure of the building. The kitchen was also spacious, but it would have been nice if dishcloths were provided. Additionally, there were no chopsticks at all; disposable chopsticks would be appreciated. There is a dishwasher available; however, the provided dishes are not suitable for it due to their shape, so we ended up washing everything by hand. The bathroom was large with good amenities. Since we had a toddler with us, having a stool and washbasin in the bathroom would have been even better. The BBQ ingredients provided were quite good quality; however, I was slightly surprised that there was no beef included. For drinks, only cartridge-style coffee was available; tea bags for green tea or black tea would have been appreciated as well. Also, having recipes for the food items in the refrigerator would be helpful since photos alone made it somewhat unclear what goes together or how to prepare them properly. Although pet supplies weren’t initially prepared for us when we arrived, after calling about this issue they responded sincerely and promptly which I greatly appreciated! Overall satisfaction: We were mostly satisfied overall! Although weather wasn’t great during our stay this time around—we’d love returning again someday under different seasonal conditions too! Thank you so much!!
