    A place you’ll want to visit every year.

    Stayed with a family of four and one dog. The view from the terrace was nothing but lush greenery, and we could truly enjoy a perfect resort atmosphere. Breakfast on the terrace while listening to birds and insects was incredibly soothing. The garden was spacious, and we were able to play badminton and other games with the kids. The amenities felt thoughtfully selected to include only what’s necessary, which left a great impression. There were washrooms on both the first and second floors, with two hair dryers provided. A washer-dryer and detergent were also available, so we had no inconveniences at all. If I had to mention one thing, as others have noted, the sauna temperature is low so it may feel a bit underwhelming—but considering various factors, I can understand why it’s set up that way. The disposable slippers were nice, and everything was thoroughly cleaned down to every corner—exactly what you’d expect from Rakuten STAY Villa. There is a large nature park across the street where dogs are allowed, so morning walks were very pleasant. Dog supplies are somewhat limited: a few pee pads, two types of food bowls, wet wipes, and something like plastic bags for picking up waste are provided. There wasn’t a dedicated trash bin for dog waste, so we ended up throwing used pee pads into the kitchen trash bin; it would have been nice to have one for dogs. Our whole family agreed that we’d love to stay here again next year.

    A bit disappointing

    The sauna and open-air bath provided a unique experience that was highly satisfying. However, it was disappointing to find the cleaning on areas like the sofa insufficient. Additionally, some wallpaper was torn in places, and the sandals for going out to the garden were dirty. Please pay attention to detailed cleaning as well.

    One-night stay with pets

    I have used the Villa series several times, but this was my first time at Lake Kawaguchi. While it’s not new and there were signs of repairs on the floor and stains on the sofa, everything was clean and comfortable. Dog amenities were well-prepared. Although the weather wasn’t great, we enjoyed a relaxing evening indoors with the Onsen and sauna. The second-floor bathroom has two sinks side by side, making it spacious to use. One issue we encountered was that the BBQ grill plate was old with peeling Teflon coating, causing food to stick easily. Without additional oil provided, cleaning it afterward was also challenging. However, the meat and shrimp ingredients were delicious. It would be even better if facial soap, makeup remover, or lotion were available as amenities—not just here but in general accommodations too! Overall, we had a wonderful trip with our dog!

    Cleaning...

    Previously stayed at Rakuten Villa in Nikko and loved the beautiful room, so decided to stay here as well. However, there were hairs on the floor in the room (in several places), and some plates and glasses were dirty. There were insects everywhere, which made me wonder if windows are left open during cleaning. There was even a net for catching bugs placed in the bathroom, which was unsettling. It’s not an open-air bath, so how many bugs are getting inside? I couldn’t bring myself to use it at all. It was very disappointing compared to how clean the villa in Nikko was. The only thing better than Nikko was the food.

    I chose Rakuten STAY...

    I chose Rakuten STAY TERRACE Hakone Kowakudani because I had a great experience using it before. As mentioned in other reviews, there were several areas where the room cleaning seemed insufficient. Since I brought my dog, I noticed leftover food crumbs on the floor. There was also a stain resembling ketchup on the floor. On the first floor, part of the flooring was damaged and temporarily fixed with transparent tape. Regarding the garden, it felt slightly under-maintained. Due to its open structure, voices might echo, but I didn’t find noise from neighbors particularly bothersome. This time, I stayed with no meals included. The refrigerator had strong carbonated water stocked inside, and there was Matsuyama Yushi hand cream placed in the second-floor washroom. With two bedrooms upstairs, a shower room on the first floor, and a bathroom on the second floor, it’s convenient for group stays. The bathroom area and washroom were very clean. Laundry detergent was also provided this time, which was very helpful.
