It was excellent. In particular, making my own breakfast was very relaxing. I was tired of overly attentive city Hotels, so this place met my need to stay in a minimalist environment like this.

Away from everyday life, I was able to relax while listening to the sound of the waves. For dinner, I enjoyed a bento packed with many local regional dishes on the terrace. Breakfast was self-catered: rice cooked in an iron pot, with very simple side dishes. I was able to spend a spiritual, calming time. It had a different kind of charm from any Accommodation I’ve stayed at before. It also felt like staying at a vacation home and camping at the same time.

    It was amazing!

This Accommodation I found on IKYU was amazing! I stayed in a Room called “Olivier,” which doesn’t have a bathtub, but instead comes with a steam sauna (with shower) and a meditation room. I was a bit worried because there wasn’t much information and there’s no bath, but it wasn’t an issue at all. My first steam sauna experience was incredibly relaxing, and everything you need after the sauna—oils, toner, face masks, drinks, gowns, etc.—was provided. Spending cool-down time on the terrace sofa was the best. I didn’t think I’d use the meditation room, but since it only has a small window and very little visual stimulation, just being there (even without actually meditating) made my mind feel clear. I also realized I’d forgotten my yoga mat—but they had a premium Manduka yoga mat available, so I enjoyed morning yoga on the terrace. We didn’t add dinner; instead we bought ingredients at nearby supermarkets (Marunaka and Maruyoshi) and cooked simple meals. The kitchen is in the Room next to the bedroom. There are only pots for cookware, so having a frying pan would be helpful. Also, the dining table is small and you eat sitting on floor cushions, so it would be nice to have a more comfortable space for meals. The towels, gowns, loungewear/pajamas, and sheets were high quality and felt wonderful. In addition to the thousand-year-old olive tree(s), there are olive groves and terraces on site—so if you stay here, I recommend not rushing around sightseeing too much and instead taking your time enjoying this Facility. The view from the Room was incredible—I’d love to come back again just to relax!

It was a relaxing, unhurried trip that felt like an escape from everyday life. The Room location was amazing—the sound of the waves, the wind whispering through the forest, and the chorus of insects made it truly wonderful... However, there were simply so many insects that it took courage even to open the windows. They were especially common in the bathroom. Since it’s in the middle of a forest, it can’t be helped, but there were so many insects that I couldn’t fully relax.

    Relaxing maternity getaway

We chose this place because we wanted to travel as a couple before our baby is born. The view from the Room was truly one of a kind and very calming. The service was excellent, and they responded quickly to our requests, which was a great help. The meals were also delicious, and we were very satisfied. Receiving energy from the thousand-year-old olive tree, it was a wonderful trip that refreshed both body and mind. Thank you very much. P.S.: Since it is surrounded by nature, there are various insects, but the staff responded promptly and we were able to stay comfortably!

    It was absolutely amazing!!

It was an incredible location beyond words! The balcony was exceptionally spacious, and we enjoyed both the Warigo bento dinner and the iron-pot rice breakfast out on the balcony. The Warigo bento, prepared by a top-class traditional restaurant, was beautifully crafted dish by dish with gentle flavors—absolutely satisfying. For breakfast, it was simply rice cooked by ourselves in an iron pot, along with tsukudani, olive oil, soy sauce, and salt—but it felt more than luxurious enough. We were told we could take the olive oil made from Shodoshima olives and the soy sauce home, so even after returning home we’ve become hooked on olive-oil-and-soy-sauce rice! This olive oil is truly delicious. Dining while taking in the view from the balcony was time beyond compare. We could also feel the attention to detail in everything—from the amenities to the bowls and soup cups—and even the drinks in the fridge were anything but ordinary. Everywhere we looked there was thoughtful care, all curated with great taste. The sparkling wine we bought at Gate Lounge and the sake made from Shodoshima-grown rice were both truly excellent. We ended up drinking away while looking out at the sea! All of your staff were so warm—we regret not staying sooner!! We will definitely be back. Thank you very much for everything! We truly appreciate it!!

It didn’t feel worth the price, so I was disappointed because I had high expectations.

The Facility itself was new, stylish, and had a nice atmosphere. The location was also excellent—the view of the sea from the hilltop and the birdsong from the surrounding forest were truly refreshing, and spending time in nature was genuinely soothing. I also appreciated the olive-based amenities. However, overall it felt overpriced and disappointing. From the moment I entered the Room, the floor felt sandy, and there were lots of lint balls on the blanket, which gave an impression that cleanliness in the details was lacking. Meals were served in-room for both dinner and breakfast, but the indoor table was small, and the terrace table wasn’t level, making it difficult to eat comfortably. Dinner consisted of a cold boxed meal and a soup you heat yourself; breakfast was rice you cook yourself with freeze-dried miso soup, nori seaweed, and only tsukudani that was identical to what came with the previous day’s boxed meal—honestly very basic. It felt less like an “experience” being offered and more like costs were being kept down. Although this Accommodation is said to be themed around “wellness,” I didn’t feel there were many unique experiences that set it apart. The olive oil tasting costs extra, and even touring the olive trees on-site appears to cost 1,000 yen for non-guests. There was no particular guidance at check-in about using the spa or sauna either. While services felt minimal as if effort had been reduced, pricing remained firm throughout, which came across as somewhat money-driven. The natural setting is appealing, but it’s not something exclusive to this Accommodation—it’s an experience you could also have at rural cottages elsewhere. If you’re promoting “wellness,” I think more substantial services or activities would have been appropriate. We paid approximately 95,000 yen for one night for two people in a Standard Room (with dinner and breakfast). At this price point there are many Accommodations where both meals and service would be far more satisfying. It was especially disappointing because my expectations were high.

    Relax and unwind. Excellent location.

The sunrise from the Room was wonderful. Dinner was a bento from Koyomi—very thoughtfully prepared. In the morning, rice is cooked for you in an iron pot. I wish I had brought eggs. There is no bath chair or wash basin in the bathroom, so it’s hard to relax and take your time. The view is great, but the steam fogged up the bath area and made it impossible to see outside, which was disappointing. Still, it was a lovely Accommodation where we could spend a relaxing time.

    This is a great accommodation.

The facilities were new, well maintained, and very nice. Dinner was delicious and more than filling. In winter, it seems they serve it as a small hot pot, which was also great. I saved the soup and added some tofu I bought to make a quick hot pot for breakfast. The olive tea also had an addictive flavor. I did think the road from reception to the Room could be improved. I would like to stay again if I have the chance.

    I was extremely satisfied!

From the moment we opened the door, we were impressed the whole time. Not only the design, but also the view, Facility, and amenities—everything was truly excellent. If I had to mention one thing, it would have been even better if the dinner bento had been warm. Thank you for a wonderful time!

An annual birthday trip with friends

With no clock and no TV, it was a peaceful stay where the sound of the waves and the warmth of the sun felt close.\nFreed from my busy daily routine, I took my time cooking rice in a clay pot and enjoyed a simple yet satisfying breakfast.\nOf course, dinner was also wonderful, and the Room was filled with thoughtful touches—I found myself wishing I could stay one more night.

    A charming accommodation in Kusetsuyo

We stayed for two nights in the Tou room. However, this accommodation requires some prior understanding. After checking in at the front desk, you drive your own car to the room. There is no shuttle service or assistance with luggage, and you must navigate a bumpy off-road path with steep slopes on your own. On rainy days, the road can become muddy and challenging, as mentioned by a taxi driver. The entrance to the room is not barrier-free at all and would be difficult for those with mobility issues. Incidentally, we found it easier to use the staff's back entrance for access. The room itself was beautiful with an exceptional ocean view. However, there are no curtains on the large windows, so sunlight streams in early in the morning; by 8 AM, it feels like a greenhouse inside. You may even get sunburned while indoors. The bathtub is located on an extremely open terrace. While it's secluded from people, anyone could technically wander into this area—wild boars included! Fishing boats also pass very close by in the morning. There’s no changing area near the bath either, so privacy between companions is nonexistent. Although there are four bathtubs available, one of them is too deep and difficult to use safely for children or elderly guests. That said, gazing at the night sky from these baths was truly breathtaking. For washing up indoors, there’s a small shower booth that feels cramped and lacks a changing area as well. The sink provided is minimal—a tiny handwashing basin typically found inside toilets—making tasks like brushing teeth or washing your face quite inconvenient. On a positive note: you can enjoy making fires on the terrace—a fantastic experience—and while I didn’t personally use it much myself, I noticed that their sauna had great ambiance. Being surrounded by nature means insects are inevitable; if you're not comfortable around bugs, this might not be an ideal choice for you. Breakfast involves cooking rice yourself using an earthen pot after rinsing it manually—very much like being at home! However minimalist meals consist only of rice paired with condiments such as tsukudani (preserved foods), lacking protein or vegetables significantly needed nutritionally speaking . Dinner features traditional local bento boxes which taste good but may vary depending upon individual preferences . Security measures felt inadequate despite its rural location: large windows were secured merely via sliding rods ,and flimsy locks guarded entrances including poorly designed backdoor mechanisms .No overnight staff presence existed within reception areas leaving communication limited solely through LINE messaging apps during emergencies . Staff members themselves exuded warmth alongside friendliness throughout interactions overall though personally enjoyed treating stay akin towards luxury glamping rather than expecting full-fledged premium-level accommodations given numerous functional shortcomings requiring improvements urgently addressed moving forward

The view and the Room are excellent.

The ocean view from the room was stunning on a sunny day, and the sound of the waves was very soothing. The room had a warm, cozy atmosphere, and the bed was extremely comfortable. However, as an accommodation for travel, the bathroom was quite disappointing. It was cold, the water temperature was low, there was no reheating function in the bathtub, and since water temperature settings were managed by the facility, adding hot water didn’t make it warm enough. One of the joys of traveling is relaxing in a bath to relieve fatigue after a long day; not being able to do so caused significant stress. During this chilly season, perhaps staff could try experiencing what it feels like to use the bathroom themselves to understand how guests might feel?

It was a stay in the rain.

Arriving in the evening during heavy rain, we completed the check-in process at the front building and headed to our Room. However, while we were informed that nature is preserved as much as possible, the path from the front building to the Room was not paved or maintained with gravel. The deep ruts were further eroded by rain, creating large puddles on a steep slope. Driving down this path was quite nerve-wracking as the tires struggled for grip. On sunny days, it might not have been an issue, but some maintenance would be appreciated. The Room itself was very comfortable with cozy cushions, bedding, pillows, and loungewear that allowed us to relax completely. The amenities made with olive ingredients were also very pleasant to use. However, the lighting in the Room was dim; during dinner time it was hard to see without using a flashlight. A stand light would have been helpful. Additionally, since the table was small and couldn’t hold all of our dishes comfortably, dining felt a bit inconvenient. That said, everything tasted delicious and portions were just right! For breakfast on a clear morning after rain had stopped, we enjoyed dining on the terrace—it was incredibly pleasant! Initially worried about finishing such a generous serving of rice provided at breakfast but ended up eating every bite because it tasted so good. The fridge offered various drinks (though no alcohol), which could be purchased separately at reception—had I known earlier about this option beforehand would've planned better! As for bathing facilities: due lack-of-lighting inside bath area nighttime usage wasn’t feasible instead opted morning daylight hours instead enjoying experience fully then afterward stretched yoga mat available terrace overlooking luxurious scenic views leisurely atmosphere perfect relaxation overall stay

A hotel where you can experience the extraordinary

Located in a spot where you can enjoy the serene Seto Inland Sea and its islands right before your eyes, this accommodation offers a unique experience surrounded by stylish decor and furniture. The road from the front building to the accommodation building is unpaved and dusty, which might be slightly challenging for elderly guests, but the secluded atmosphere filled with nature is exceptional. Meals were beautifully presented in wooden boxes featuring local specialties of Shodoshima, both visually appealing and delicious, leaving us very satisfied. The drink service at the front building was also delightful. The olive skincare set was stylish and uniquely Shodoshima-like, which we appreciated greatly. Additionally, being able to try sample products like olive oil and soy sauce in the kitchen made it easy to decide on souvenirs at the front desk. One disappointing aspect was regarding a complimentary ginger syrup concentrate provided in our refrigerator. We opened it during our stay but left most of it unused after mixing it with soda water. Unfortunately, we forgot to put it back into the refrigerator before checkout and remembered this at the front desk upon departure. However, we were informed that housekeeping had already discarded it while soda water remained untouched and returned to us instead. It felt odd that only an unopened ginger syrup concentrate was immediately disposed of during cleaning while other items were not treated similarly. While I don’t expect a replacement or identical item as compensation, some form of follow-up would have left me with a perfect impression of this accommodation without any lingering discomfort about their service approach in this instance.

    The meals are incredibly delicious.

I stayed here during a trip with my mother. As the hotel had just opened, all the staff provided excellent and courteous service, making it a truly memorable experience. The food was absolutely delicious, and the variety of amenities made for a very satisfying stay. I would love to visit again!

    I felt very relaxed.

It was an amazing experience. I would love to stay again. The view of the ocean from the terrace is breathtaking. The room has a pleasant wooden scent, and relaxing background music plays softly. Located about 10 minutes by car from Tonosho Port, it offers a private space surrounded by nature where you can enjoy the sound of waves and tranquility. The hospitality is also excellent. Breakfast is a self-prepared style where you cook rice yourself, giving it a homely feel that was very enjoyable. I will definitely stay here again when visiting Shodoshima!

    The view is spectacular.

The view was truly amazing. I visited in the summer, and the color of the sea and the sunrise were especially beautiful! It would be even better if there were desks or tables on the terrace. The meals were prepared in a traditional style and were very delicious. In the morning, I could cook rice using an iron pot myself, which allowed me to enjoy authentic white rice—this was a wonderful experience. Additionally, I enjoyed various activities such as relaxing by the fire on the terrace while experiencing an open-air bath—it was perfect. Regarding meals, it might be interesting to have options like course meals served in a separate Room for a different dining experience alongside traditional dishes.

Experience the ultimate mindfulness retreat on Shodoshima.

Visited for the first time while attending the Setouchi Triennale (Spring Session) and searching for accommodation near the venue to relax with my partner. This unique accommodation, highly rated in reviews, consists of three rooms and a recently built spa building on a vast property, offering an exclusive space. The room had no TV, with ambient music softly playing in the background. From the spacious terrace, I enjoyed a stunning view of ships silently passing in the distance over the southeastern sea of Shodoshima. The only sounds were birds chirping and gentle waves lapping—an incredible view that soothed my tired eyes and mind from work stress. The weather changed from cloudy to rainy to sunny during our stay, but each condition offered its own magical scenery. The bath was not an onsen but heated water, which was slightly disappointing. Additionally, as it was set at a lower temperature (43°C), I would recommend requesting a higher setting if preferred. Meals were exceptional; dinner resembled bento boxes inspired by rural kabuki intermissions—rich in variety and flavor while highlighting fresh ingredients with ample portions. Breakfast on the first morning involved cooking rice ourselves—a simple yet memorable meal featuring rice, pickled condiments, and miso soup full of natural flavors. However, breakfast on our second morning consisted of nyumen noodles alone; adding something like rice balls would have been more satisfying. Overall, this is a place worth visiting just for its breathtaking views that encourage mindfulness meditation experiences. I look forward to returning again in autumn!

    We had a wonderful time.

We had a wonderful time on the terrace with a beautiful view, free from noise, enjoying the sound of waves and birds. In the Room, healing music was playing, and we could stretch on yoga mats or experience mindfulness for a refreshing time. The Room was stylish, clean, and equipped with amenities like olive-based cosmetics that were pleasant to use. Although insect repellent items were provided as insects might appear occasionally, there were no insects in the Room during our stay at the end of April. While the Room was comfortable, we enjoyed dining on the terrace because it felt so nice there. The stars at night were also stunning! The freshly cooked rice for breakfast was incredibly delicious; adding olive oil made it perfect (you wash and cook your own rice). We had an extraordinary experience and left very satisfied!

It was an exceptional experience, to say the least.

Thank you very much for your hospitality. We decided to go to the Shikoku area with our family during the New Year holidays and found this property on IKYU while looking for a nice stay (a small inn by the sea). Initially, we didn't plan to go to Shodoshima, but we added it to our itinerary because we wanted to visit this property. Looking back, I think it was very fortunate that we were able to make a reservation at a stay with only three rooms on New Year's Eve. We stayed for one night from New Year's Eve to New Year's Day, and the sunrise from the terrace of the room was the most moving experience of my life (we were blessed with good weather). The view from the bathroom is also excellent. If you sit on the terrace sofa wearing a down jacket, you can only hear the very quiet sound of the waves and the chirping of birds. The simple and brand-new room has no TV (Wi-Fi is available). Since dinner could not be prepared during the New Year holidays, we only had breakfast here. At first, I was puzzled by the idea of cooking rice myself using an iron pot, but it turned out to be incredibly delicious. Rice, freeze-dried miso soup, and small bowls of seaweed and tsukudani are provided, but above all, I never thought rice with olive oil and salt could be so delicious. In the evening, during bar time, we enjoyed sparkling wine from Shodoshima in the lounge. My wife, our eldest son who became an adult a week ago, and I toasted with gratitude for the past year. I think this is originally a place to slowly enjoy various experiences related to olives, but this time both check-in and check-out were rushed, so I hope to visit more leisurely next time. Thank you very much for accommodating our various unreasonable requests.

We were able to enjoy the unique scenery here.

The calm sea stretches out just a short distance from the balcony, allowing for a truly luxurious time. The night sky full of stars and the morning sunrise have left a deep impression on my heart. The morning rice cooked in an earthen pot was exceptional. I think the Room's bathtub could be a bit more spacious for a more relaxing experience. The on-site facial treatment is recommended as it revitalizes the skin and helps reduce puffiness.

The thousand-year-old olive tree was breathtaking, and the view of the sea from the terrace was also very beautiful. The service was excellent, and we were introduced to various tourist spots on the island. Both dinner and breakfast were very delicious, and I was particularly surprised by the taste of the rice cooked in a pot. The sauna is expected to be completed soon, and I am very much looking forward to it. The road was a bit narrow and rough, which was a concern, but it was an amazing experience that more than made up for it. I would like to visit again in the spring. Thank you for your hospitality.

    The path to the Room...

The path to the Room is unpaved and extremely steep, making it challenging for vehicles other than SUVs. Check-in is done via a tablet in the Room, but you need to input personal information like your birthday to proceed, which might feel uncomfortable. The dinner bento offers a variety of options, but matching them with the menu can be tricky. If you'd like alcohol with dinner, please bring your own in advance. For breakfast, you need to cook rice yourself early in the morning; however, the effort pays off as you enjoy delicious rice on a pleasant terrace (the rice topped with olive oil and herb salt was exceptionally tasty!).

I'm sorry, but it was not an experience worth the price.

The room was newly built and had a refreshing feel. It seems that various facilities are planned to be constructed in the surrounding area. When we stayed, there was traffic from construction vehicles in the morning, and we were woken up by the exhaust noise from the trucks. For breakfast, rice and preserved foods for self-cooking were pre-set in the refrigerator. The bath was smaller than I expected. When stepping out onto the terrace, there was a scent of sesame oil. The smell was too strong for me, so I couldn't keep the window open. When I asked the staff, they said the scent was from a nearby sesame oil refining factory. If you dislike sesame oil or have an allergy, it might be better not to stay here. The SPA is for women only. The conversation proceeds on the assumption that the user is female. There is a wide range of original goods. I was also recommended by the staff to try the online shop, but personally, I found the service disappointing. I do not recommend it for gifts. The online shop might be operated by a different company.

    First Trip to Shodoshima

Each group is guided to one building. It was a new and clean building. You can park your car right next to it, but if the road were a bit wider and better maintained, it would be easier for larger cars. The rental car we got on the island didn't show up on the GPS, perhaps due to the model. There is no TV in the room, so TV lovers should be cautious. The appliances and furnishings are all the latest models. The bento in a tiered box was delicious, but I also had a desire to eat warm rice for dinner. In the morning, we cooked rice ourselves. The freshly cooked rice with olive oil was delicious. The kitchen is well-equipped, so I thought it would be even more enjoyable if they sold fresh vegetables and fruits nearby. For those who want a typical travel experience, it might be better to research the concept thoroughly beforehand. I found myself detoxed, making it quite an interesting experience. The olive oil amenities were also lovely.
