    My first visit—an unforgettable, wonderful stay.

    Before arriving, we got a little lost, but friendly locals kindly spoke to us. Even before check-in, we felt the warmth of the people and it made us smile. At the entrance, the cool sound of wind chimes welcomed us. We were impressed by how beautifully maintained this historic building is—many original elements remain, yet everything is kept in excellent condition. Thanks to the staff’s thoughtful explanations about the origin of the transom designs, hidden features within the building, and local history, we enjoyed our tour far more deeply than we could have on our own. The garden in the Omi-associated “Donketsu-ryu” style was unlike anything we had seen before. With many tall trees, we could enjoy a beautiful layered view not only from the first floor but also from our Room on the second floor. There was also a pond shaped like Lake Biwa and a tea-room-like space—an outstanding setting that made us want to relax outdoors in other seasons as well. We were also very satisfied with our meal at “Kokarokkon,” which came highly recommended by the Facility. Not only was every dish exceptional, but we were moved by everything—from the displayed art and attentive care from the staff to their explanations of each course and enjoyable conversation. This was a wonderful Accommodation filled with history, gardens, great food, and warm hospitality. We would love to visit again during a season when it’s comfortable enough to spend more time outside.

    Everything is wonderful—the streetscape, the garden, and the residence.

    Renovated from a charming old mansion, it preserves its original atmosphere while incorporating modern conveniences. This was my first time staying with NIPPONIA, and it was even better than I expected. NIPPONIA Accommodations are scattered throughout The whole country, and I’m confident each one will be just as promising. “Gokasho: Town of Omi Merchants” feels like a work of art, including the streetscape itself. I’m very satisfied to have been able to stay in such a place at a reasonable price. I would love to stay again.

    I had a great experience.

    We stayed with two adults and two elementary school children. As expected, we had an extraordinary and wonderful experience. The facility, service, and breakfast were all satisfying, allowing us to relax as a family. There was only one minor concern regarding the toilet. The accommodation is a maisonette style with the living room on the first floor and bedrooms on the second floor, but there is only one toilet located on the first floor. The sound of opening sliding doors or going down the stairs was quite loud, so we felt sorry for disturbing other guests when using the toilet at night or during midnight hours.

    A unique experience where the modern and the past coexist

    From the moment I arrived at the accommodation, I felt a strong sense of the local atmosphere. Starting from Osaka, as I left the city and was greeted by the quiet scenery, I felt a sense of excitement. Even though I arrived later than the scheduled time, the staff warmly welcomed me and provided detailed guidance. Thank you very much. The accommodation was even more organized and satisfying than the photos. While maintaining the charm of the traditional house, the bathroom, toilet, and kitchen were modernized in harmony. The view from the window was truly impressive. The yukata provided in the accommodation was lovely, and wearing it the next morning to stroll through the nearby alleys and greet the locals was a unique experience. The koi fish along the promenade were also a major highlight. However, there were three points of disappointment. First, I was unable to access the garden, which was unfortunate. I understand this is due to preservation issues as the house is part of a cultural festival, so it wasn’t a major problem. Second, there was an issue with insects in the open-air bath. While it’s understandable that insects are inevitable due to the nature of an open-air bath, having a system to selectively open and close a screened area might create a more comfortable environment, especially for women and children. Lastly, the yukata provided in the room was only available in adult sizes. It would have been a better experience if there were yukata for children as well, especially for families traveling with young children. Please note that I do not speak Japanese.     Spacious and Relaxing

    The townscape, featuring a stream where koi swim, was charming. The Room, though in a traditional old house style, was clean, spacious, and comfortable. The open-air bath and the view of the Japanese garden from the veranda were stunning, leaving my family very satisfied. The amenities were also high-quality.

    It was a wonderful trip.

    Originally limited to two groups, the accommodation was offered as a whole rental since we were the only reservation. The tasteful design preserved its vintage charm, and the on-site security ensured a safe and comfortable stay. Breakfast the next morning was provided by a stylish nearby restaurant, making for an entirely satisfying trip. The town's atmosphere is full of charm, and this is an accommodation we would love to visit again. Highly recommended for adult travelers.
