    Time Slip

It unfortunately rained on the first day, but it almost stopped as soon as we arrived. The large old house, together with the calls of frogs and Japanese bush warblers and the gentle sunlight, made us feel as if we had traveled back in time. The spacious earthen-floored entryway, the quietness, and the scent of the earthen walls and wooden pillars somehow gave us a comforting sense of being back home. It was refreshing in a way quite different from an Onsen Accommodation. Most noteworthy was the wonderful hospitality of the host. They were incredibly knowledgeable about ingredients and cooking, and warmly welcomed our dog with a smile even when he jumped up in excitement. We were completely satisfied with the irori kaiseki meal. (It felt like a dream to be able to savor such refined flavors slowly together with our dog!) Not only that—when we prepared things ourselves, such as baking pizza or making breakfast, their careful guidance beforehand allowed us to enjoy everything deliciously without any worries. I truly believe it was such an amazing experience because of them. This time we enjoyed the fresh greenery of early summer, so we would love to visit again in another season. Thank you very much for taking care of us.

You can always feel at ease with the Roofu group!

[Pros] - I was happy to be able to enjoy so many activities for free (campfire, grilling rice crackers over the irori hearth, and playing with paddle ball and a Frisbee). - The dog run is securely fenced, so I was satisfied that my dog could run off-leash. - Although it’s a fully renovated traditional house, it was very clean and comfortable to stay in. - The cleaning staff were very pleasant. [Cons] - The Accommodation parking area is a bit narrow (Jeep Wrangler RUBICON).

The best accommodation for both dogs and people

The dog run is very spacious and pleasant. As soon as we arrived, my dog happily ran around, and I felt glad to have chosen this accommodation. It's an environment where dogs can relax freely, which naturally puts owners at ease as well. The traditional Japanese house has a calm atmosphere, allowing for a very peaceful stay. We enjoyed experiences like making miso and koji, as well as roasting rice crackers over the irori hearth—much more fun than expected! Roasting rice crackers over the irori was surprisingly challenging; adjusting the heat while slowly roasting them was a fresh experience. However, the rice crackers I made myself were far more delicious than I imagined. For dinner, we had an irori kaiseki meal prepared by the staff while we relaxed by watching the fire—a leisurely dining experience without any rush that allowed us to savor every bite. At night, we spent time by the bonfire without doing much of anything in particular. Just watching my dog relax nearby filled me with contentment. This is an accommodation that naturally makes you think, "I want to come back again."

    A Relaxing Traditional Japanese House

A traditional Japanese house with a historical charm, where relaxing on the veranda and gazing at the garden was incredibly soothing. Dinner by the irori (sunken hearth) was a luxurious experience, as staff grilled each item right in front of us, making it feel like having a private chef. The pizza oven experience was also delightful. Stretching out the handmade dough prepared in advance and baking it resulted in an authentic pizza that tasted surprisingly delicious despite being made by ourselves! Grilling rice crackers over the irori was fun too—even though I slightly burned mine (laughs), it added to the enjoyment. The room was impeccably clean and comfortable, and before I knew it, I found myself thinking, "I don't want to leave..." It’s such a healing space that I can’t wait to visit this accommodation again.

Experience the extraordinary with an inspiring Irori Kaiseki meal and a stay at a traditional Japanese farmhouse accommodation.

Stay at Suginoya, a serene and tranquil accommodation surrounded by a historic traditional house and a spacious garden. Although it is a private rental, we were warmly welcomed by smiling staff upon arrival, who carefully explained how to use the facilities, making us feel at ease from the start. Opening the heavy wooden door felt like stepping back in time. The beams, shoji screens, and antique furniture were meticulously maintained, creating a warm space that embraced us with its cherished history. For dinner, we chose "Irori Kaiseki" over "Irori Skewers," which turned out to be an excellent decision. The luxurious style of having each dish grilled right in front of us by attentive staff was unforgettable—Kazusa beef fillet, thick-cut tongue, salt-grilled sweetfish (ayu), shrimp, scallops, Spanish mackerel—all exquisite! The scallops' aromatic and melt-in-your-mouth texture was particularly impressive. Each item was perfectly cooked to bring out its best flavors. The course lasted about two hours—a truly indulgent experience enjoying the flames and aroma of the irori hearth while savoring each bite. Leftover rice from the final clay pot dish was kindly made into rice balls for us to enjoy later as a midnight snack. During our stay, we also participated in the winter-exclusive "Haruko Farm Miso-Making Experience." Local expert Haruko shared her knowledge about vegetables and koji fermentation as we joyfully prepared miso together—a process that takes one year to complete but gives something exciting to look forward to after returning home! Additionally offered were salt-koji and soy sauce-koji making experiences; these take only about one week before being ready for use—perfect for incorporating into daily life while exploring fermentation's depth. Breakfast featured self-serve steamed dishes using bamboo steamers—simple yet delightful flavors freshly steamed without any cleanup hassle made mornings effortless. In addition to all this culinary delight came outdoor "Band Yoga" sessions held in their beautiful garden—a relaxing way of harmonizing breathwork gently while refreshing both body & mind thoroughly. Having stayed at several traditional accommodations before now—it’s clear Suginoya stands out above them all! From meals & hospitality through unique activities provided—it has become my favorite place ever visited—and I can’t wait until next time!

Relax and spend quality time with your family.

We stayed as three generations with our dog! We mostly relaxed indoors, only going out for short walks nearby. Our dog had a great time running around the lawn in the front yard. The meals were carefully prepared with just the right amount of service, and the menu changed daily—luxurious! Even though it was winter, the accommodation was equipped with air conditioning and heaters, so we stayed very warm. Next time, we’d love to visit an accommodation in Yamanashi!

    The dog run is excellent.

I stayed at a traditional Japanese accommodation in Chiba with a spacious lawn dog run! To sum it up, it was the perfect environment for traveling with dogs and kids. First and foremost, the expansive lawn dog run. When traveling with dogs, finding a place for them to play can be challenging, but here there's no need to worry! During our stay, our dog could run around freely whenever they wanted, which made them very happy. The dog run was also fantastic for kids! The wide grassy area was ideal for children to run around. They enjoyed playing ball games and racing with the dogs without getting bored. As parents, this was incredibly helpful. The accommodation itself had a charming and relaxing atmosphere. The wooden interiors provided a warm and nostalgic feel where even the children felt at ease. The spacious living room allowed us to unwind as a family comfortably. Overall, this accommodation truly embodied the "ideal trip" for families traveling with dogs and kids. Dog-friendly accommodations are surprisingly rare, especially ones that also provide such an excellent environment for children to play freely. If you're looking for a comfortable place to stay with your beloved pet, I highly recommend giving this place a try!

    Very nice

I stayed with two dogs and my husband. The staff were kind to the dogs, and I could tell they love dogs! Thank you very much for being so kind. My dog is not good with other dogs, so I usually can't take him to a dog run, but since the garden was very spacious, he was able to run around as much as he wanted and seemed to really enjoy it. I plan to visit again soon! If you want your dog to run freely, please come here at least once! Thank you for a wonderful time!

The trip with my dog was fantastic.

I made a reservation for a property where I could stay with my dog. It became the best memory for a family trip! The dog run was spacious and clean, and the dog was happy. The food was delicious, and the activity using the pizza oven was also fun. The hospitality was simply the best. The service from the staff member who assisted us was very pleasant, kind to the dog, and one of the reasons we want to visit again. The room was spacious, and I think even a large family can stay comfortably. The bath being ordinary made it feel a bit less extraordinary, which was a little disappointing for me, but other than that, we really enjoyed it. Thank you very much!
