  I stayed here while returning home during the summer holidays. Among the many traditional Japanese house accommodations, this one stood out for its elegance—originally a samurai residence, it has a refined presence. In particular, the garden is designed with a small stream running through it, giving charm not only to the building but to the entire property. Inside, fresh flowers of various kinds were arranged throughout, and despite being an unmanned accommodation, it felt thoughtfully cared for with attentive touches. The bath was not an Onsen, but there were so many other appealing qualities that it didn’t feel like much of a drawback. Perhaps because of its location it may be an area that’s harder for tourists to visit, but for travelers from Japan and abroad alike, this accommodation is well worth visiting with the stay itself as part of the purpose of the trip. I would love to return when I have another chance.

  Thank you very much for choosing to stay at TOKITOKI among the many Accommodations available. TOKITOKI is a renovated building that was originally the former Ito residence, built in the early 1800s. We have heard that, at the time, the Ito family served as inspectors for the Jindai Nabeshima Domain. While the building has no lavish ornamentation, features such as the tatami rooms have been restored to reflect the original design from when it was first built. We are truly delighted that you enjoyed the building. The pond and stream on the grounds had once dried up and some of the stones had collapsed before we began restoring them, but now crabs scuttle about and bitterlings and loaches swim again. This year, fireflies even came to visit the pond. The fresh flowers inside are arranged by our staff using seasonal blooms, so your kind words are a great encouragement to us. Jindai Koji is not a bustling tourist destination, but it is home to a samurai residence district with a unique atmosphere. We are very happy to know that you were able to relax with your loved ones in this quiet setting while enjoying rural nature. All of us on staff sincerely look forward to welcoming you again.

  Full of Firsts

  Everything about this accommodation felt unique and thoughtful, with all the amenities you could wish for perfectly provided. It truly gave the impression that they care about their guests! We stayed as a family of four, and having two toilets was very convenient. The beds and futons were all comfortable, ensuring a great night's sleep. The design and architecture showcased excellent taste, which left us deeply impressed! Even though it was our first visit, it felt incredibly relaxing. We will definitely come back again!

This accommodation was originally a samurai residence built in the early 1800s, and we have renovated it while preserving as much of its original charm as possible. Since the renovation, fish and crabs have thrived in the pond, and birds such as Japanese white-eyes and bulbuls now visit the garden. Although located in a quiet neighborhood, we are delighted to hear that you were able to enjoy a relaxing stay. We sincerely look forward to welcoming you again.

  I felt refreshed.

  We stayed with a family of 7. It was our second stay. In the room, there were kimonos and bows displayed in the alcove, flowers placed everywhere, and beanbags prepared... I was once again impressed by the traditional furnishings. It is no exaggeration to say that a place like TOKITOKI, where you can feel the care of the property everywhere without saying anything, is hard to find. The grandparents were engrossed in old stories while listening to records, and the children were fascinated by finding rare shells and medaka. (The breakfast brought from Matsuei Ryokan (Matsuei Ryokan) was also exquisite!) It is a property that I would really recommend to those who want to experience the original landscape of Japan away from the hustle and bustle. I would like to visit again. Thank you very much.
