    Everything is wonderful.

We stayed as a family of three. We were extremely satisfied with every aspect of our stay—the atmosphere of the Facility and the attentive service from the staff. The French course featuring duck, which we had requested in advance, was carefully prepared dish by dish. Not only was it delicious, but the presentation and ingredient pairings were outstanding—truly showcasing the chef’s talent. Recently, we often choose “Sakagura,” and in any case it is wonderfully quiet. The entire building has a calm presence, allowing us to relax and enjoy unhurried time away from everyday life. As always, all staff members were kind and courteous. Their thoughtful attention to detail could be felt throughout our stay, and we were comfortable from start to finish. Once again, we felt this is a truly wonderful Accommodation where the cuisine, Facility, and service are all in perfect harmony. Thank you very much.

The French cuisine I enjoyed for the first time in a while was exquisite.

It had been a while since we last enjoyed Honjin’s French cuisine. Each dish, carefully prepared using local ingredients, was delicious from start to finish. Not a single course was the same as last time—everything was outstanding. Even in Tokyo, it’s rare to find French cuisine of this quality. And with no dress code, it didn’t feel intimidating at all; we were able to relax and truly enjoy the meal. That’s one of the great things about Honjin. The sake I had for the first time in a while was also excellent. Another great point is that if you visit a few times, you may occasionally receive pleasant surprise services. We’re already looking forward to the next French dinner.

I’d love to stay here again in another season!

This was our first stay on a trip with our family of four. The historic building has been renovated to preserve as much of its original character as possible while ensuring a relaxing and comfortable stay, and our 2-night, 3-day visit in the quiet satoyama countryside became a truly wonderful memory. Being guided through the property and hearing the explanations—about the stately beams in the main house, the timeworn floorboards, the covered corridor once used by a lord on his way to the restroom, the earthen walls inside the storehouse, and even ball marks on its exterior—was an invaluable experience for me as a lover of historic architecture, beyond even the delicious meals and the breathtaking view of the Northern Alps from the back garden. The building itself tells a story and invites you to imagine life in another era, and it was clear how carefully all staff cherish it. I can only imagine how challenging it must be to preserve and maintain such a place as an Accommodation, but I sincerely hope it will continue to be loved by many guests. We also truly appreciated that you kindly accommodated meal requests made after our Reservation. We enjoyed a leisurely breakfast, had a delicious hot pot dinner, and received thoughtful care in many other ways. Once again, thank you very much to all staff for your hospitality.

Staying overnight with our family of four for the first time in a while.

We stayed again for the first time in a while as a family of four. We have tried several Rooms, and personally, the “Sakagura” Room is my favorite. On the first floor there is a table and chairs where all four of us can sit, and it’s quiet—perfect for relaxing together as a family. The children slept on the second floor, and looking out through the small window made them feel as if they had traveled back in time. Even though it was winter, the climate control—including underfloor heating—was perfect, making our stay very comfortable. The bed and pillows were high quality and exceptionally comfortable. The bathroom was also surprisingly spacious, with an interior that feels far larger than you would imagine from the Room’s exterior. In spring, this area hosts the Fukujuso Festival, and we can explore nearby using the Facility bicycles, so we will definitely stay again. I’d also love to enjoy the chef’s cuisine again after so long. The morning strawberries were delicious—thank you very much.

Relax and unwind with your family

This time, three of us in the family stayed here (with one person canceling at the last minute). Although we hadn’t informed you in advance about the change in number of guests (from two to three), you prepared everything for the additional guest while we were out. Thank you very much. We used the kura Room again, and it was arranged so our family could relax and spend quality time together. We were able to talk about things we normally wouldn’t, without any hesitation, which was very satisfying. It was an extremely cold night, but this Facility had far better heating than you would ever expect from the exterior, and we stayed comfortably warm. When we left, you also gave us homemade dried persimmons—they were delicious. You even served oyaki as well; these small touches are really appreciated. We will definitely stay here again as a family.

    A Lovely Storehouse-Style Room

This was my first time staying in a kura room. The interior has been renovated in a stylish, modern way, with a large bathroom on the first floor and a bedroom on the second floor—an exceptionally luxurious setup. It felt almost too indulgent for a solo stay. The air conditioning was set so I could relax comfortably in loungewear, and it was very cozy. I was able to rest well in the quiet bedroom and recover from a week’s fatigue. Since there are several variations of this kura room, I’d love to try staying in another one as well.

    Warm hospitality

This time we stayed without meals, but in the past we enjoyed an outstanding breakfast catered from a nearby place that prepares handmade bento featuring local vegetables. The staff kindly arranged it in advance again, and we were able to enjoy another delicious breakfast. We truly appreciate this thoughtful care. As the season has quickly moved on and it has gotten colder, the Facility’s climate control is excellent as always, making it very comfortable. We are grateful to the staff for their warm and friendly support every time. It’s been difficult to secure a meal-included Reservation due to timing, but we would love to enjoy the chef’s French cuisine with our family again. There are several Room types, and we’d also like to stay in one we haven’t tried yet.

Thank you for the wonderful time!

This was my first stay, and it was a far more wonderful place than the impression I got from online searches. The accommodation itself, as well as the staff's hospitality, made me realize the importance of excellent service. Thank you for such a truly delightful experience. Please continue your efforts to make this accommodation an even better place.

The True Pleasure of French Cuisine in a Traditional Japanese House

It was my first visit in a while. Dinner this time was a celebration of the chef’s appointment, and we enjoyed innovative French cuisine. Having French cuisine in a traditional old house was wonderfully atmospheric, and it felt truly luxurious. This time, we stayed again in the Room on the second floor that we had used before, and an additional bed set had been prepared for us, which we were happy to use. We really appreciated this thoughtful consideration. At breakfast as well, we were able to enjoy the chef’s cooking, which made staying here even more appealing. We were very satisfied with this stay too.

    Stayed for 3 nights ...

Stayed for 3 nights without meals, cooked breakfast using Azumino ingredients, and dined at restaurants in Matsumoto and Azumino in the evening. With the provided IH stove, pots, plates, etc., I could cook at my own pace. The peaceful atmosphere of the accommodation allowed me to relax deeply. The staff were all kind and welcoming, providing helpful local information when asked, making my stay enjoyable. I was unaware of the chef's appointment at the time of reservation but would love to try dining here next time. Although summers in Matsumoto have become hotter compared to before, mornings and evenings are still cool enough to sleep without air conditioning—truly refreshing for the body. Looking forward to experiencing a different room on my next visit!

    Accommodation filled with exceptional hospitality

I stayed for one night and two days. Since it was also to celebrate my girlfriend's birthday, I requested a birthday cake in addition to the meals, and they kindly accommodated my request. On the day of our stay, the concierge warmly welcomed us. From detailed explanations about the facility to serving meals, everything was provided with great care, and we were able to enjoy the birthday cake without any issues. On the second day, we felt so reluctant to leave that we stayed until the very last moment of check-out time. At the end, not only did the concierge see us off but also the chef came out to bid farewell. Seeing them wave until they disappeared from view in our car's rearview mirror will surely remain an unforgettable memory for me. It was a wonderful stay. I would love to visit again!

It was a truly enriching experience.

The ambiance and the hospitality of the staff were both excellent. It was very quiet, with no unnecessary distractions, allowing for a relaxing time. I thought it would be nice to have a slightly wider selection of local Nagano sake and wine on the menu. Next time, I would like to stay in a different Room.

    Spent a relaxing summer vacation.

A summer vacation for a family of four. We enjoyed a relaxing stay in a spacious room. The two rooms are connected by a corridor. The kids worked on their homework, while the parents enjoyed their hobbies—no need for TV with Wifi available. Mornings and evenings were cool, perfect for walking and exploring nearby areas. During the hot daytime, both Matsumoto and Azumino were just 20 minutes away by car, allowing us to enjoy sightseeing. The meals were all satisfying, prepared by an exclusive chef. The full-course creative dishes using local ingredients were delicious, and the hot pot was more than enough to finish. Even our growing kids left feeling full! The staff was incredibly kind as well. While we were out walking, an evening shower started unexpectedly. As we took shelter at the Nio Gate of Hohukuji Temple, one of the staff members arrived in their car to bring us umbrellas! They had driven around likely walking spots to find us when they noticed the sudden rain—such thoughtful service! Thank you so much; it truly felt like heartfelt hospitality. This accommodation follows a homestay style with no staff present at night; however, they arrive early before breakfast time so there’s no inconvenience at all. In winter, it seems they use wood stoves for warmth—we’d love to visit again during colder months!

Looking forward to enjoying your upcoming accommodation.

I stayed with my wife again this time. Since we had dinner with my parents before staying, we did not request dinner, but the breakfast delivered from a nearby organic shop was exquisite. It might have been the best breakfast I've ever had. We also enjoyed a small pastry after breakfast, and these occasional surprises are one of the unique features of this accommodation. The French cuisine I had previously was also excellent, and I heard that in the future there might be a resident chef instead of just for business trips, which could expand dinner options. As always, thank you to the staff for your thoughtful hospitality.

Enjoy the charm of a traditional Japanese house and scenic countryside.

Thank you for the excellent hospitality. I appreciated learning about the fascinating history of the building and enjoyed exploring nearby historical sites, as well as experiencing the serene beauty of the countryside. The view of the Northern Alps from the accommodation's garden was truly stunning. While there were some inconveniences due to the layout and fittings of this older facility, it offered a rare opportunity to experience an extraordinary and unique space. Maintaining such an old property, including weeding and garden upkeep, must be challenging, but I hope it will be preserved with care for many years to come. Thank you for this valuable experience.

    Excellent French Cuisine

I visited with my wife. While we usually enjoy hot pot for dinner, this time we opted for French cuisine. Experiencing French dishes in a space filled with Japanese history was a delightful and unique contrast. The chef prepared the meal on-site, and it was intricately crafted and absolutely delicious, giving us a sense of true luxury. We even had the chance to harvest shiitake mushrooms from the garden upon arrival to use as ingredients for dinner—a first-time experience that we thoroughly enjoyed thanks to the thoughtful arrangements by the staff. A magnificent May doll display added charm to our stay, and I appreciated how seasonal decorations change throughout the year, creating an atmosphere full of seasonal beauty. Once again, it was an exceptional stay that left us very satisfied. We look forward to visiting again!

Another pleasant stay at the accommodation.

I stay at this accommodation almost every month. This time, I was blessed with pleasant spring weather and enjoyed a two-hour exploration using a rental bicycle. It was incredibly refreshing. There is also an onsen facility nearby, and on the day of my visit, the Fukujusou Festival was being held, so there were plenty of activities to enjoy. The one-night, two-day stay flew by in no time. For dinner, it seems there are options like Japanese cuisine or French outside the main building, but personally, I prefer the meals served in the main building. The staff's thoughtfulness is always greatly appreciated. I look forward to staying again next month!

A property where you can enjoy tranquility.

I love the ambiance of this Property and the warm hospitality of the staff. During this winter season, it is about 10 degrees colder than Tokyo, but indoors it is very warm and comfortable. There is no sense of hustle and bustle at all; I really like how quiet and peaceful it is. As the name of the Facility suggests, it retains the atmosphere of an old lord's inn, allowing you to experience its history just by being inside. I will use it again.

A property where you can feel the history and soothe your heart.

This was my second stay. As the name suggests, it is a room where a lord once stayed, and this time I stayed with my family for one night. The staff are all courteous and provide warm hospitality with thoughtful attention. There is no unnecessary noise like TV, and the room is spacious enough for four people, allowing us to enjoy a long-awaited family gathering. Despite its appearance, the room has underfloor heating, so we didn't feel cold at all. Although it looks like an old house, modern touches are applied here and there, revealing that it is a well-maintained property. We had our meals at the property, which were delicious and satisfying. Since it is very close to my parents' house, I will use it again.

I had a luxurious time with wonderful hospitality.

First of all, I had to communicate several times before my stay because I forgot to arrange dinner at the time of reservation, and I was very grateful for the courteous response. I felt the thoughtfulness and hospitality even before my stay. After arriving at the property, I was impressed not only by the historical building but also by the warm yet dignified atmosphere of the property itself. The room, with its impressive beams and earthen walls, allowed me to feel the history while also being designed for a relaxing personal time, making me regret having booked for only one night. The most memorable part was the dinner. I highly recommend it to anyone staying. Hearing that the vegetables were sourced from local (kinrin shūraku) contract farmers, I was reminded of the importance of the deliciousness of the ingredients. I felt it was a place worth visiting to enjoy luxurious personal time and the changing of the seasons.
