    [Half Board] PAO: BBQ CAMP Course—Start by Lighting the Fire

    The entire Facility was very clean, and not only the bedrooms but also the toilets, shower rooms, and even the large public bath were kept spotless, so we had a very comfortable stay. The meals were also delicious, and the experience itself—starting a fire ourselves and grilling and cooking—was truly fun and became a memorable time for our family. Above all, we were most impressed by the hospitality of the staff. We have stayed at many Hotels and Accommodations, but the team here was without a doubt among the very best. We visited with two small children and were worried about whether we could manage starting a fire and doing BBQ properly, but the staff kindly and carefully taught us what to do and naturally supported us at just the right moments. We really appreciated how they watched over us with perfect distance—never intrusive. It wasn’t luxurious like a high-end Hotel; instead, it offered warm human connection and time for our family to work together, giving us an incredible sense of happiness unlike anything we’ve experienced before. There aren’t many Accommodations that make you think “I want to come back,” but this is a place we genuinely feel like visiting even every month. It was an outstanding experience that left our whole family completely satisfied. We would love to stay again.

    Campfires are enjoyable.

    The campfire was enjoyable. Stayed in a yurt. Everything was average, neither particularly good nor bad. This is my third visit this year, but the cost-performance seems to be getting worse each time. The staff provided excellent service. It would be nice to have slippers available in the room.

    Second stay

    We stayed as a family of four, just like last time. The quality of the Facility and service remains excellent, and the well-maintained bath was particularly enjoyable. The meals were not exceptionally luxurious but offered consistent quality and sufficient portions. As before, the morning orange juice was a big hit with the kids. There were two young goats that were moderately friendly, which animal-loving children will undoubtedly enjoy. Their bleating was quite loud but did not cause any discomfort during our stay. We look forward to visiting again in another season!

    This was our 6th vis...

    This was our 6th visit! Every time we come, there’s something new to discover, making it an enjoyable experience. When we ask the kids where they want to go, their answer is always “Glamping!”—they absolutely love it here. This time, there were goats, and the kids immediately said, “We’re going to see the goats!” They spent a lot of time with them and even followed them during walks. The staff kindly shared information about the goats without hesitation and made it a memorable experience for us. The staff maintain just the right balance of attentiveness and distance, creating a very comfortable atmosphere. Thank you as always! We’ll definitely be back again soon!

    It was an ideal accommodation to comfortably experience almost camping.

    I was inspired by watching solo camping videos on YouTube, but since we have no outdoor experience, we thought camping on our own would be difficult and decided to look for a glamping facility. We chose the Kawaguchiko area because it offers views of Mt. Fuji and is easily accessible from Tokyo. Our stay exceeded expectations. We stayed in a Pao for two people, and the room was clean, stylish, and comfortable to sleep in. Each Pao had its own small washroom facility with a spacious shower that was very comfortable, and all amenities were provided so there was nothing inconvenient at all. We were pleasantly surprised by how few insects we encountered—perhaps due to the heatwave or effective pest control management. The most enjoyable part of our stay was starting our own fire for BBQs and enjoying private campfires at each Pao. Even in midsummer, the nights were cool and pleasant; we ordered extra firewood and enjoyed campfires and fireworks late into the night without worry. All necessary tools for cooking or starting fires were perfectly prepared, making it very convenient for beginners like us. The staff being nearby also gave us peace of mind as they helped us with various things when needed. Although we didn’t use the bath or Onsen this time, we’d love to try them during our next visit! Breakfast was luxurious and delicious; however, since breakfast is served between 7:00–8:00 AM where you prepare your juice or hot sandwiches yourself (and clean up afterward), checking out by 10:00 AM felt a bit rushed—late check-out on weekdays might allow more relaxation. We’re already talking about visiting again in autumn! Thank you so much for taking care of us during our stay!

    The Best Breakfast

    The breakfast buffet was amazing, with homemade bacon and sausages, and freshly squeezed orange juice. Enjoying breakfast while gazing at Mount Fuji was truly unforgettable! I forgot to bring pajamas, but the bathrobe provided in the Room was very helpful. My elementary school-aged sons were thrilled with the jacuzzi in the Room. Despite the intense summer heat during the day, mornings and evenings were cool, allowing us to enjoy a comfortable stay surrounded by nature. Next time, we’d love to try staying in another building as well. Thank you!

    We strive to provide better service.

    Overall, I am satisfied. However, I noticed the following two points: - Room cup cleaning issue (see attached image) One of the cups was dirty when I tried to use it. - Dim lighting in the earthen floor area There is a space like an earthen floor for barbecues, but one of the light bulbs was out. Brighter lighting would make the food look more appetizing.

    This was our first t...

    This was our first time using a glamping facility, and everything from the well-equipped and clean facilities to the meals was excellent. The staff were all very kind. My spouse and I especially enjoyed the breakfast after our early morning fishing trip, which included freshly brewed coffee, hot sandwiches made on a stove, freshly squeezed orange juice, and a variety of vegetables and fruits.

    We had a great time.

    Overall, I was satisfied, but there were some disappointing points. At check-in, there were many international guests, and it took some time to assist them, so I had to wait a bit. While the language barrier made it understandable and not too unpleasant, I deducted one star for this. ◯ From the photos of the Room, it might just be me, but the toilet/shower and PAO bedroom are in separate buildings. Both can be locked from outside for security, so there's no worry about someone entering. The shower room and toilet are right next to the PAO building outside, so it's not inconvenient; however, please note that they are in separate buildings. Everything was very clean with good air conditioning for both cold and warm days. ◯ For meals at PAO accommodations: meat and vegetables were pre-distributed beforehand with an option to purchase more if needed at an additional cost. Initially looking at it quickly made me think portions seemed small or that I'd need extra—but once cooked & eaten—it turned out perfectly sufficient without needing additions! Breakfast followed similarly where warm soup came separately while ingredients grouped neatly inside cases required self-preparation—highlight being freshly squeezed orange juice alongside salad/fruits leaving satisfaction high. ◯ Nearby each PAO lies bar counters offering alcoholic beverages/popcorn/snacks available until early closure times worth noting ahead though personally felt full post-dinner hence skipped indulging further yet found roasted marshmallows (paid) appealing fun activity instead!     Accommodation for 4 family members

    Service From arrival to checkout, all staff provided proactive service at an appropriate level. (Although I had seen reviews mentioning unfriendly staff, I did not encounter anyone like that.) Facility The PAO offered just the right level of glamping experience, making it ideal for families with children or groups of friends. If you're looking for a resort-like environment with pools and jacuzzis, glamping without dirty shoes, or minimal contact with insects, this PAO may not be for you. However, the outdoor bathrooms near each room were spacious enough and very clean. The infrastructure was well-prepared without compromising the outdoor feel, which left a great impression on me. For those experienced in glamping, you'll notice subtle but well-maintained facilities throughout the site that enhance comfort while blending into the natural setting. The athletic playground near PAO was perfect for letting energetic kids burn off some energy. Elementary school-aged children of any gender would surely enjoy it. Additionally, although I had no expectations for the main building's bathhouse facilities, they turned out to be simple yet fully equipped and impressively clean—almost as if newly built. Overall, while it may not suit everyone’s preferences perfectly in every aspect, this place strikes a great balance between preserving an outdoor atmosphere and providing natural yet comfortable surroundings. Dining Compared to other facilities in a similar price range, there wasn’t anything particularly outstanding about the meals here; however, portions were sufficient as expected elsewhere. It might not appeal to those who prioritize food quality above all else—but personally speaking—the chicken seasoning was good and vegetables tasted fine too! My wife especially appreciated complimentary drinks served during dinner service. In conclusion: I'll definitely return here again with my family!

    Overall, quite disappointing.

    I made a reservation before Golden Week because the reviews were good. The room had a sunroom-like area where the floor was covered in hair, which turned out to be shedding from a deer rug hanging on the wall. When I asked the staff, they confirmed this but did not take any cleaning action afterward... It was very unpleasant to have BBQ meals in such an environment. If proper cleaning cannot be ensured, it might be better not to place such decorations just for ambiance. The bedding on the second floor of the room felt too basic—perhaps aiming for a glamping vibe—but if it's meant to accommodate four people, proper futons would provide more cleanliness and comfort. The poor sleeping conditions left me feeling tired. Additionally, while the bathroom was spacious, its blinds were damaged and should be replaced immediately. As for meals, they were neither particularly good nor bad; however, breakfast at 8:30 (the only available time) was disappointing as no items were replenished at the buffet midway through service. Although I've listed many disappointments here, all staff members were cheerful and kind with excellent service. The hot dog service in the garden was by far our favorite part—it was delicious and enjoyable. Given this price point though, we won't consider returning again as a family.

    Poor service

    The overall explanation was insufficient. During the barbecue, essential utensils (tongs, knives, chopsticks, etc.) were either missing or broken. We were just given ingredients without any instructions and had to figure out how to cook them ourselves. By the time we finished eating, someone came over saying "Sorry, I forgot" and handed us a menu and cooking instructions. For breakfast as well, only ingredients were provided with no clear guidance on how to prepare or eat them. There was only one staff member available, making it difficult to ask questions if the timing didn’t align. At night, loud music played in front of our tent until past 9:30 PM like a club atmosphere. The neighboring tent continued partying loudly until after 3 AM with all the noise clearly audible. It turned out to be a very stressful accommodation experience.

    Stay for 3 nights!

    The service was excellent, and the staff's response was wonderful. The meals were creatively prepared and enjoyable. However, the breakfast was the same every day, which became monotonous. Still, I would like to visit again.

    The perfect blend of outdoor adventure and luxury

    Blessed with good weather, we ran around the forest on the premises until dark, enjoying activities like handmade swings, hammocks, photo spot hikes, and rope throwing to our heart's content. This accommodation offers high added value for families with children as you can enjoy views of Mt. Fuji every time you enter or leave your room. Dinner was a barbecue, and as a family with no camping experience, we nervously used the grill to prepare our meal. Not knowing how to handle the lid properly at first led to some dangerous moments when trying to close it quickly due to its weight; more beginner-friendly instructions for grill use would be appreciated. Although we ended up burning some of the meat quite a bit, it became part of the fun experience! However, there were no kids' menu options available—most appetizers were more like snacks—and our children mainly filled up on rice cooked in a mess tin (which turned out great!). The orange juice and eggs served at breakfast were of excellent quality. We chose a villa because having an indoor bath and toilet was essential for us; combined with access to the large public bathhouse, it allowed us to stay warm during winter—a perfect decision for this season! Next time we'd love to try staying at one of their tent sites during warmer weather. Thank you so much for your kind hospitality and making this an unforgettable experience!

    I want to visit again.

    I visited again after going in February this year, and many things have improved, making me want to visit again. Top 2 personal improvements: 1st: The first floor now has proper beds instead of a sofa bed and sleeping bags. 2nd: Coffee is available for free both in the morning and at night. Last time, I slept in a sleeping bag on what seemed like a sofa bed, which felt like camping. It was tough and tiring, especially with kids. This time, I saw in the photos that they had renovated to regular beds, so I decided to visit, and it was very comfortable. Also, last time, I believe the coffee was charged, but this time it was free. Drinking coffee in nature is very delicious, so this was a very pleasing improvement. Dinner on the Room terrace and breakfast at HONKAN were unique to this place, both in atmosphere and taste! If I had to say, I love rice, so it would be nice to have rice available for breakfast. The staff were all very kind. However, the backstage staff? Unlike those at the front desk, I occasionally overheard somewhat curt conversations among the staff, so it might be good to be mindful of that. I want to visit again soon.

    I had a very enjoyab...

    I had a very enjoyable and wonderful experience. The room was clean, and the Christmas tree decorations were beautiful and winter-like. I couldn't start the fire well, but the staff helped me. However, I gave it 4 stars because the membership benefits of the reservation site were forgotten, and we had to wash and return the dishes used for the BBQ ourselves, which was different from our expectations. The kitchen faucet was outdoors and very cold, and the water was cold too, so if I had known in advance that I had to wash the dishes, I would have brought paper plates and cups. Overall, it was a very good stay. Greetings were in Koshu dialect, and all the staff said "Arigatougoisu" instead of "Arigatougozaimasu," so please listen to it.

    The difference in service quality between the Pao and Villa accommodations, as well as the variation in staff hospitality, is noticeable.

    I chose a Multiple Night Stay because of the good Reviews. However, I was surprised by the reception's attitude during check-in. They were unfriendly and very procedural. The explanation was poor, possibly due to being busy. For the first night, I stayed in a yurt. Due to heavy rain, the staff seemed unmotivated and guided me while carrying my luggage through the rain, leaving me unattended afterward. While guests are expected to pick up ingredients themselves, considering the weather conditions, it would have been nice if they delivered them instead. The second night was in a villa—standard glamping experience. Compared to other high-quality glamping Facilities, it felt average overall. There were differences in staff hospitality; some were kind but generally unimpressive service-wise. Borrowing items like mugs or lanterns felt like an inconvenience for them, and even when learning how to set up a campfire, their guidance lacked friendliness. This place might be suitable for first-time glampers or families with children. The food portions were large and hard to finish; however, having chicken, pork, beef, and boar meat two days in a row became monotonous—especially with grilled bananas as dessert both nights! Perhaps including fruits like Shine Muscat grapes would be better since it's Yamanashi after all. The freshly squeezed orange juice was delicious! However, grinding coffee beans at both accommodations proved challenging—it made me wonder if they were just decorative items. Overall lack of service spirit made me feel that camping might have been a better option than this glamping experience.

    A fulfilling glamping experience that makes me want to visit again.

    I have stayed at glamping sites in the Izu area several times before, but this time, I stayed here for the first time with the aim of enjoying activities at Lake Kawaguchi. While many facilities do not allow campfires or fireworks, this place allows both. Moreover, each PAO has its own dedicated campfire area, which is a luxurious feature. We were able to enjoy campfires and handheld fireworks without worrying about other guests. The reviews mentioned that the staff's service was excellent, and indeed, their thoughtful hospitality made me glad we stayed for multiple nights. The firewood chopping experience was said to be for junior high school students and above, but our upper elementary school child was taught safely with a smaller axe and was able to chop the firewood beautifully. When making hot sandwiches for breakfast, paper wasps invaded the outdoor kitchen space, and after borrowing insecticide and spraying it, we unfortunately couldn't eat any breakfast. However, I think such experiences are part of the charm of glamping. Overall, it was a highly satisfying stay. Thank you very much.

    First glamping experience!

    I stayed with my two elementary school children. From the architecture to the exterior and the rooms, everything was stylish, and our excitement rose the moment we arrived. The explanations were thorough, making it easy to understand how to use the facilities, and all the staff were kind. The BBQ, made with luxurious ingredients that we don't usually have the chance to prepare, was delicious and memorable, and the whole experience, including the cleanup, was great. We ended up wasting some rice because there was too much, so it would have been nice if we could have adjusted the amount in advance to avoid waste. The breakfast made with a skillet was exceptional. I was impressed by the orange juice! We debated between PAO and staying in the row house, and we chose the latter. It was a wonderful space filled with the warmth of wood, and it felt almost too good to stay in. The kids were thrilled with the loft and their first jacuzzi experience (laughs). We also split firewood and relaxed by the light of lanterns... One night wasn't enough; both parents and children were filled with excitement and anticipation, making it a very good accommodation experience. The concept of glamping, which is a bit different from regular camping, was also very enjoyable. If we have the opportunity, we would definitely like to use it again.
