    We thoroughly enjoyed experiencing life in a traditional Kyoto townhouse.

    We stayed for three nights and were able to truly relax. The owner and concierge were attentive without being intrusive, and their comfortable sense of distance made our stay completely stress-free. The optional experiences suggested by the Accommodation and the recommendations for nearby shops were also excellent—just following them was enjoyable. The amenities and equipment were very well stocked, making the stay even more convenient than being at home. The kitchen in particular was a huge help, with not only cookware and tableware but also some basic seasonings. We would love to visit again. Highly recommended Accommodation.

    This is my second stay.

    Thank you again for this year. I stayed with a close friend. The Accommodation was wonderful, and the meals were carefully prepared and delicious—being able to enjoy them in the Room in comfortable, relaxed clothes was such a treat. My favorite drinks went down very easily. Everyone at the Accommodation was so kind, and our conversations were enjoyable, making it a truly lovely day. My friend liked it so much that they said they want to stay again, so we will be staying again soon. Thank you very much again.

    Rambling around Gion before and after

    I visited Kyoto mainly for errands in Gion. You kindly accommodated my unreasonable request to head out right after arriving with only minimal check-in procedures, and the next morning you still treated me with great care even though I was completely wiped out with a terrible hangover. I’m truly grateful. The building is compact overall, but even at 177 cm tall I didn’t feel cramped at all. Everything was clean and well maintained, and I never once felt any sense of age or wear. And the breakfast genuinely surprised me. At first glance—please forgive my rudeness—it looked like a beautiful but fairly standard Japanese breakfast, yet the deliciousness of each dish made me blurt out loud. The grilled salmon had perfect seasoning and a wonderfully fragrant char, with incredible flavor; the simmered dishes were richly seasoned while still keeping their textures; the ohitashi and pickles had refreshing spice and acidity; and the egg was beautiful in both color and shape… All of it came with pot-cooked rice with crispy scorched bits, plus miso soup where the miso and dashi gently wrapped around the sweetness of tofu—an absolutely perfect breakfast that made me grateful to be Japanese. Even though it was hard to move because of my hangover, once I took a bite I couldn’t stop eating. The baked sweets prepared as a special perk were also truly delicious—so much so that on my next trip to Kyoto, I’d rather skip Gion entirely and just stay here. I wish I could have enjoyed every corner more… I hope you’ll let me stay again despite everything. Thank you so much.

    Family Trip for Three Generations

    Our children are now 8 and 5 years old, and our parents are over 70, so we thought it might become difficult to travel together in the future. My wife and I planned a trip to Kyoto for six of us within driving distance. As someone particular about accommodations and meals, I found this accommodation on IKYU.com. Based on the website (no offense), I thought it seemed decent enough, with the mindset that I could cancel if I found something better. The result? Absolute satisfaction. I work in architecture and often stay at renovated traditional houses, but this place stands out with its impeccable design details. In other places I've stayed before, there were noticeable shortcuts taken in construction or design—none of that here. Both the owner and concierge were incredibly kind as well. My son said he wants to visit Kyoto again; my daughter joked about wanting to live there saying "maybe~." My parents thanked us for what they called their first-and-last wonderful trip together—but since we all had such a great time, I've decided to plan another trip while our kids still want to join us and while my parents are still healthy enough to travel. One last personal opinion: I felt the website doesn't fully capture how warm this accommodation truly is—it’s beautifully designed but almost too polished, which might dilute its charm a bit. The actual experience was about 1.8 times more wonderful than what we expected from the website!

    I stayed for an anni...

    I stayed for an anniversary. Choosing this Stays was truly the right decision. The entrance is lovely and exciting even before you enter. Once inside, a different world unfolds. How happy it is to spend time in a warm room, sipping tea while gazing at the charming courtyard. Every room is designed to offer a view of the outside, providing a great sense of openness. Everywhere I went, I felt a sense of care in unexpected moments. There were heated floors where needed, comfortable handrails, cozy chairs, pajamas and gowns with the best comfort, and bedding with a pleasant texture. Each detail brought happiness. Everything with a sense of daily life was neatly stored, maintaining a stylish space, which was great. The Property seemed to have everything you could think of, all carefully selected. Dinner was served in the room. It was the height of luxury to enjoy exquisite and delicious meals in the room. Moreover, each dish was freshly prepared and brought to the room by the Stays. The meal-inclusive Plan is highly recommended. Above all, the concierges were wonderful, making the day even more special. Please let me visit again soon. Thank you very much.

    Fantastic stay!

    We very much enjoyed our 3 nights at Hotori. The service was amazing and the machiya had everything we needed. Any questions we had were answered very quickly in a helpful manner. The location made it very easy to get to anywhere and felt very much like we were in Kyoto. We had breakfast on the last day, and it was the perfect end to our stay in Kyoto - very much recommend as the chef comes to cook in the morning. Thank you!

    Stayed for my daughter's birthday celebration.

    We stayed for a slightly belated birthday celebration for our daughter. The concierge's kind and precise email correspondence was excellent, allowing us to visit with peace of mind on the day. The entire rental property was decorated in a way that felt very calm and in tune with the season. The amenities, pajamas, and bedding were very clean and comfortable, allowing us to have a pleasant stay. Although it was just one night this time, we felt like staying longer next time. Upon departure, they also prepared a birthday celebration for our daughter. Thank you for your thoughtful consideration.

    Stayed for her birthday.

    This time, I stayed without meals, but the food looked delicious, so I'd like to try dining next time. (It seems there's also a service where a sushi chef comes to the room's kitchen, and I'd like to experience it at least once next time.) The room with a courtyard had a special feel, and I had a wonderful day. I recommend it for stays on special occasions.
