Enjoy exclusive panoramic views of terraced rice fields! A private whole-house rental for an unforgettable escape.
Blessed with great weather, we were able to enjoy an extraordinary getaway while taking in the beautiful terraced rice fields with heavy, ripening ears of rice. Even though it was midsummer, a cool breeze flowed through the terrace and it felt very comfortable. At night, unfortunately, the sky was cloudy, so we couldn’t see the starry sky we had been looking forward to. In the evening, we rented a BBQ grill and enjoyed it as a family. However, there was no outdoor lighting in the BBQ area, and where the grill was initially placed was quite dark. Since it was too dark, we moved the grill to a slightly brighter spot. Even then, it was hard to see the food on the grill and difficult to tell whether it was cooked or not. In the end, we had no choice but to hold up our phone light while grilling. There were three showers, but one was broken and couldn’t be used. The shower next to it had water pressure that was too weak to use. Ultimately, only the stand-up shower could be used. If staff had explained in advance which showers were available, I think we wouldn’t have been confused. The bathroom space itself felt thoughtfully designed and lovely, but adjusting the temperature for filling the tub was a bit difficult. In the living room there is only one two-seater sofa and no table. There wasn’t really a place for our family to sit together and talk comfortably, which was a little disappointing. The kitchen chairs are hard and tall, so they didn’t create much of a relaxed family atmosphere either. Still, the interior design is tasteful and very stylish. Having two toilets and two sinks is also a nice plus when staying with a larger group. We were also able to relax—taking naps or reading in the hammock set out on the terrace. There are plenty of camping chairs and tables provided as well, which are easy to set up. And breakfast! We cooked precious rice harvested from right in front of us in those terraced fields; there were also many side dishes to go with it—absolutely satisfying. The black soybean miso had great depth of flavor and made delicious miso soup. Our kids especially loved the pickled plums (umeboshi) and dried daikon strips (kiriboshi daikon). We were also kindly given plenty of fresh summer vegetables such as eggplant, zucchini, and tomatoes. Breakfast on the outdoor terrace was exceptional. There were some Facility-related points that concerned us somewhat—but more than anything else، spending time surrounded by those beautiful terraced rice field views felt truly special!

My wife’s favorite. ...
My wife’s favorite. A wonderful Accommodation that makes you want to come back again and again. This was our third stay, including Reservations made by my wife. This time it was a gift from me. It’s truly exceptional every time, so I wanted to leave a Review. Our usual way of spending time here is enjoying authentic organic coffee brewed with the espresso machine in the Room. Sipping coffee while looking down over the terraced rice fields through the large window of the tatami room, we both forgot about our phones and were able to relax for the first time in a while. Breakfast was also outstanding: rice harvested from the terraced fields right in front of us, cooked in a clay pot. The miso soup made with additive-free black soybean miso and dried-sardine broth felt gentle on the body, and this simple yet carefully prepared meal is something we truly appreciate. Although the sky was unfortunately cloudy this time, the earthy scent after the rain and the lush, misty view of the terraced fields were beautiful—we could have watched it forever. At night, a few fireflies drifted softly through the air, and my wife and I were moved by how magical it felt. Another great memory was chatting casually with the landowner who came by to check on the rice paddies; we learned about local life and culture. It warmed my heart to realize that this beautiful nature is preserved thanks to such careful stewardship by people in the community. A staff member told us that “the Milky Way in July and even midwinter starry skies are beautiful,” so next time we’d love to visit in another season with stargazing in mind. Take a deep breath and leave everyday life behind. It was a truly satisfying stay that left both body and mind fully refreshed!
We stayed here as a couple in late May. To sum it up, it was so wonderful we didn’t want to leave (laugh). First, the location is truly one of a kind. Surrounded by nature in every direction and with hardly any cars passing by, the silence made us feel like “time moves differently here.” The terraced rice fields had just been planted and were filled with water—the view was breathtakingly beautiful. We could have stared at it forever. The words “I want to stay here forever” came out naturally. Breakfast was a special experience. We cooked rice grown in the terraced fields ourselves in a clay pot, and thanks to the detailed cooking guide, even I—someone not very confident in the kitchen—was able to make it perfectly fluffy and delicious. As we ate, we found ourselves saying, “Have we ever really taken time to appreciate rice like this before?” It tasted incredible. The black soybean miso soup was also unbelievably good—we had seconds. The organic coffee is unforgettable too. There’s an espresso machine that grinds beans fresh, and I honestly lost count of how many cups we had morning and afternoon (laugh). Coffee time while looking out over the terraced fields felt like pure luxury. Inside, the interior design has great taste, everything is clean, and it’s simply comfortable. For this location at this price point, I think it’s an excellent value. Most memorable of all was the manager—who turned out to be the owner! I asked so many questions about their dedication to building the place, their relationship with local residents, and the best seasons to visit (laugh), but they answered warmly and clearly without showing any annoyance at all. It made perfect sense: “Of course this Accommodation is special—this is who created it.” I don’t usually write a Review, but I really wanted to say thank you. I can recommend this Accommodation with confidence. If you want to spend slow, mindful time in nature or Clear your mind from everyday life, you’ll absolutely love it. On our way home we were already talking about coming back together in summer when the terraced fields turn green again. Thank you so much!

Spend time in nature
Located at an altitude of 480m in the rural area of Tamba Sasayama, Shitsukawa Tenku Farm offers a truly unique experience. Among the NIPPONIA properties, this has become my favorite. After my first visit last year, I couldn’t wait to return and had the pleasure of staying twice this year—in mid-June and early August. Though it is situated away from the center of Tamba Sasayama, just beyond the mountain range lies Nose Town in Osaka Prefecture. The breathtaking view of terraced rice fields right before your eyes is unparalleled, making every moment spent here feel incredibly special. The stay included breakfast featuring freshly harvested vegetables and perfectly cooked rice that were exceptionally flavorful and memorable. The freshness of each ingredient stood out, turning our family meals into cherished moments. Although both visits coincided with rainy weather in June and August, there were plenty of breaks in between showers. In June, we enjoyed watching fireflies; in August, we listened to cicadas while admiring mist-covered mountains in the morning—a truly soothing experience. Stepping onto the terrace felt like entering a storybook world filled with magical moments. Throughout the day, birdsong and cicada calls created a serene atmosphere where we could fully relax amidst nature’s embrace. This place inspires gratitude towards local residents and a heartfelt wish for these beautiful landscapes to be preserved forever. Thank you for such an unforgettable experience!

The Extraordinary Present and the Ordinary Past
A senior couple, unable to fully retire, stayed here to relax a little. They found landscapes reminiscent of 50 years ago. Freshly planted rice fields with the sound of frogs, and a cool breeze passing through shaded areas. While this has become rare in modern life, it is everyday life here. They were moved by the tranquility where only the sounds of nature could be heard. The precious rice was deliciously enjoyed. We hope to visit again in a different season!

Feel like staying at a countryside villa.
We stayed for two nights on a family trip. The two-story house, situated above terraced rice fields and surrounded by forests and paddies, offered a serene and majestic environment. We enjoyed luxurious moments sipping freshly brewed coffee on the outdoor sofa, relaxing in a hammock on the wooden deck, and drinking tea made from leaves picked in the backyard. The accommodation provided fresh local vegetables in the refrigerator, allowing us to enjoy hot pot or sukiyaki at the island kitchen. In the morning, we made rice with freshly gathered eggs and savored freshly ground coffee using beans that were thoughtfully provided. There were plenty of stylish plates, cups, and even children's tableware available. With clay pots, Tefal cookware, and kettles provided as well, cooking was an enjoyable experience. The room had both Western-style and Japanese-style spaces on the second floor. From the Japanese-style room, we could overlook the terraced rice fields while basking in pleasant sunlight. The bathroom featured a stone bathtub spacious enough for our entire family to bathe together comfortably. There was also a fireplace available for 4,500 yen per day; sitting on the sofa by its warmth while enjoying views through large windows was delightful. We spent leisurely time listening to crackling firewood sounds mixed with gentle breezes. Outside activities included listening to birds chirping during daytime or stargazing at night—a truly extraordinary escape from daily life despite chilly weather conditions! Amenities were abundant except pajamas which need bringing along personally; nearby supermarkets within Tamba Sasayama City are approximately 40 minutes away by car. For winter stays next time around—bringing blankets suitable for use over sofas alongside other cold-weather essentials might enhance comfort further! The hosts were incredibly kind throughout our stay—we deeply appreciated their hospitality! Our family looks forward eagerly toward visiting again during BBQ-friendly seasons soon—thank you so much!

This was my third stay.
I always use this property when staying with someone special. This was my third time. I stayed during different seasons from the first and second times, but the satoyama and terraced rice fields are always beautiful, and it is evident that they are very well maintained. It seems that all the surrounding satoyama and terraced rice fields are managed daily by a local farmer alone. The rice prepared at the property is always delicious, and it is said to be harvested from the terraced rice fields that spread out below the property. It was cooked in an earthenware pot, and the rice here cannot be tasted elsewhere. According to the farmer, they reached the current rice through trial and error, and they check the rice fields every day. Mr. Adachi, the manager, remembered us and did not leave us unattended after check-in. He kindly told us about the village, the farmers, and recommended shops in the nearby post town. Several new shops have opened recently, and the surroundings change with each stay. There is a lot of warmth from people and new discoveries, making me want to visit again.
