    Relaxed Stay in a Historic Building

    This was my first stay at Wa no Wi Accommodation. I chose Mayu Kura, and with its high ceiling, large beams, thick storehouse walls, and traditional tools such as thread spools on display, it felt like stepping back in time. The Rice Storehouse dining venue was also a wonderful building; the food was delicious, and the staff were very attentive. Breakfast delivered to the Room came in a cherry-bark craft bento box with many items—like a treasure box—and it really appealed to me as a woman. The only thing I noticed was that the garden from the gate to the lobby looked a bit unkempt, with weeds standing out. Next time I visit Kakunodate, I’d like to stay in a different storehouse.

    It was an Accommodation I’d love to stay at again.

    This was a top-class Accommodation that perfectly matched the atmosphere of Kakunodate. It offered a blend of old and new that you can’t experience at an ordinary Hotel or Ryokan. One reason I want to visit Kakunodate again is not only the town’s charm, but also this Accommodation. Next time, I’d like to stay in a different kura-style Room.

    I stayed at Wa no Wi...

    I stayed at Wa no Wi Kakunodate “Tanmono Kura” during cherry blossom season. Located close to the Samurai Residence Street, this Accommodation is a charming historic traditional house where you can relax and fully enjoy the atmosphere of Kakunodate. Dinner was served at the nearby restaurant “Komegura,” and both the quality and portion size were very satisfying—we were able to savor local flavors. In addition, even though it wasn’t far, we were provided Shuttle Service by car both to and from the restaurant. At night, we enjoyed the illuminated weeping cherry blossoms. The staff mentioned that “two days earlier was the peak,” but they were still more than beautiful enough, and we had a wonderful time walking through the magical rows of cherry trees. The Room layout had a living area on the first floor and a bedroom on the second, creating a calm space unique to a traditional house. The TV was portable, which was convenient because we could watch it upstairs at night. Breakfast was brought to our Room, and we enjoyed delicious dishes made with local ingredients. The price is slightly high, but it delivered a special stay worth it. Everyone on staff was very kind, with friendly yet well-balanced service that made our memories of Kakunodate even more memorable.

    A charming traditional house inspired by a pickling cellar

    I stayed at the Nishinomiya-ke Gakko Kura accommodation. The history of the pickling storehouse could be felt throughout, and the barrel-shaped cypress bath was incredibly relaxing. Breakfast featured Akita specialties beautifully presented in small dishes, offering both elegance and visual delight. Additionally, its proximity to the Bukeyashiki (Samurai Residence) tourist spot allowed me to leisurely enjoy the stunning autumn leaves and learn about each residence's history. On checkout day, I was grateful for their assistance in bringing my luggage to Kakunodate Station in time for my return train. Many thanks to all the kind staff members!

    The Ultimate Extraordinary Experience

    The long-awaited day to visit this accommodation has finally arrived. This time, we indulged in the luxury of having the textile warehouse, which can accommodate up to six people, all to ourselves as a party of two. The serene and tranquil space was truly the epitome of an extraordinary experience. While the bath does not feature Onsen water, immersing oneself in the ceramic tub offers an unparalleled sensation and warmth. The teppanyaki restaurant "Sakura Komachi," located within the same building, also left a lasting impression with its exquisite flavors and presentation that satisfied both palate and heart. Additionally, we savored one of the most coveted labels of Japanese sake "Aramasa," reveling in its profound aroma and taste. When visiting Kakunodate, skipping this accommodation and teppanyaki would be unthinkable—a certainty solidified by this unforgettable night.

    Very lovely

    We stayed at an accommodation that utilized a traditional fabric warehouse. It was even more beautiful than the photos on IKYU.com (sometimes accommodations don't live up to their photos, but this is not the case with IKYU). The renovation was done with great taste, preserving the historical charm while incorporating modern design. We stayed as a group of three, and the space was more than sufficient for us to enjoy comfortably after check-in. There were exhibits with explanations showcasing remnants of its history as a fabric warehouse, giving it a museum-like atmosphere. While meals are not provided, the location is convenient with nearby convenience stores and local dining options, so we had no trouble finding food outside. In the morning, staff delivered breakfast and even set it up for us. When we left our luggage at check-in by the entrance, they kindly transported it to their front desk near Kakunodate Station for us to pick up later—this was very helpful! The staff were polite and pleasant throughout our stay. If you're staying in Kakunodate, I highly recommend this accommodation!

    An experience that is hard to come by

    The property... the building was excellent My nephew was overjoyed The bath was also pleasant I would like to come again when the cherry blossoms are in bloom
