    another day

    It was excellent.

The Room was “Mangetsu.” There are four Rooms, with over 20 tatami mats across the main tatami area and the bedroom. With a total of over 97 m², it felt like a truly luxurious space. The furnishings and Room coordination were wonderful. The hinoki bath was very spacious, and because the added hot water was quite hot, we could soak without it cooling down. In the garden, there was even a discreet box with straw sandals inside, and there was an annex that remained closed—both adding to the atmosphere. Service: The front desk staff were kind. They accommodated two changes to our dinner plans. It was also fun hearing local stories. Meals: Breakfast was delicious. Dinner was at a local sushi restaurant. The grilled isaki (grunt fish) was plump and tasty, enjoyed together with its crispy skin. The sushi portions were very generous as well. If I had to ask for one thing, I would have liked a few more vegetable dishes.

We stayed at Komachi with our dog.

Although it didn’t seem to be mentioned in the Accommodation description, Komachi has a small garden in front of the Room where you can let your dog off-leash like a dog run. For this price, it felt like an amazing deal. My dog is medium-sized, and being able to play a little was great—he seemed to really like it. I chose the plan with breakfast included. Having it delivered to the Room was nice because I could stay with my dog, but the delivery time wasn’t clearly specified (it seemed to be sometime between 7:30 and 8:00). Also, I wasn’t sure when they would come to clear the dishes after we finished, so it was a bit inconvenient because I couldn’t take a shower or go out for a walk during that time. Breakfast was delicious, but there was so much rice in the wooden tub that we ended up wasting a lot, which felt unfortunate. I thought it would be nice if leftovers could be made into rice balls or something similar to reduce food waste. There are no curtains or blinds on the bedroom window, so if you can’t sleep when it’s bright, an eye mask is essential (the window is right by your head). It’s on the second floor, and there was also an indoor dog toilet set up. There are doors at both the top and bottom of the stairs, which made me feel safe. I’m not sure whether dogs are allowed on the bed, but since nothing said they weren’t allowed, it might be okay. Our dog slept in a crate we brought. Since Komachi is separate from the building with reception, I didn’t know where to park when checking in and got confused. Also, this wasn’t explained at check-in, but guests may have been able to use part of the first floor of another Accommodation building in the same row as Komachi as a lounge area. When returning the key on our way out, I passed through and saw things like a microwave there. If guests can use it, I wish someone had told us.

    Cozy Accommodation

We stayed at the Yamajou Wing (Matsuhisa Residence) of Yangming Hall for a New Year's trip, renting the entire accommodation with breakfast included. The staff at reception were very helpful, using a map to kindly explain nearby dining options and tourist spots. The room featured both an indoor bath and an outdoor bath, allowing us to enjoy a relaxing soak under the cold sky without worrying about others. The next morning's breakfast included small dishes, warm soup, and more rice than two people could finish. We enjoyed it leisurely in our room and were very satisfied. This was our third stay at various accommodations in the Nipponia Group, and we would love to visit again!

    NIPPONIA was excellent.

First time using Nipponia. YAMAJYOU Residence It seems to be a famous building, as there were many regular tourists and visitors. The accommodation, renovated from an old traditional house, was beautifully arranged while maintaining its original concept. I should have reserved another room, but since I only reserved one room, there were several spaces I couldn't access and windows or doors I couldn't open. Personally, being about 180cm tall, I often bumped my head on the ceiling (especially between rooms). The main areas to spend time in the room were the dining area and bedroom; compared to the listed size, it felt slightly smaller but still had a nice atmosphere. The bath made of cypress wood was comfortable; however, it wasn't an open-air bath as expected. For meals: dinner was at a nearby sushi restaurant (Kogetsu), and breakfast was handmade by the accommodation staff. The sushi at Kogetsu had smaller portions but tasted excellent with fresh fish; additional orders were possible. The sea urchin in particular was incredibly fresh and delicious! Breakfast felt like Shojin cuisine (Buddhist vegetarian meal) and was also very tasty. Overall, it provided an enjoyable experience of staying in a traditional Japanese house. Thank you very much!
