    The facility is clean and well-equipped, but...

    The cottage stay with a stylish and clean open-air bath was pleasant. However, there was no explanation from the accommodation regarding the BBQ equipment for dinner. When we inquired at the front desk about how to use it, the response was far from kind, which was very disappointing. Additionally, there were several issues with the cooking equipment for dinner ingredients (the seasoning case was broken and unusable, the stove wouldn't light up, and gas couldn't be properly released from the gas grill), leaving an impression that it did not match its price at all. Furthermore, regarding the bath inside the cottage, explanations about its heating function were insufficient. Even when operated as instructed by staff members of the facility, it did not work properly and remained cold throughout our stay. While the facility itself is truly beautiful and stylish, poor service made this a rather disappointing experience overall. For those considering staying here for special occasions like anniversaries or other important events, we highly recommend thoroughly checking all aspects of facilities yourself instead of relying on staff explanations beforehand.

    It was average. The location is clean.

    A birthday cake was ordered and delivered with the meal. However, a foreign staff member handed the cake in a paper bag directly to the person being celebrated, revealing the surprise. This was unfortunate but understandable. The meal required lighting as per instructions, but it took a long time as it wouldn’t ignite properly. Additionally, a cat suddenly appeared and bit into the food before taking it away. Please be cautious if you are not comfortable with animals. The bath was prepared according to instructions by turning on the switch from the night before to warm up for morning use, but by morning, it had turned off and remained cold, making it unusable. Considering the price overall, it felt average and unlikely for us to return again. However, the Room was clean and pleasant. Thank you!

    Onsen and meals are excellent.

    The spacious hinoki bathtub in the onsen was amazing, with plenty of room to stretch out. As advertised, the BBQ hamburger at dinner was the most delicious. We stayed in a room called "Island Blue," and the wood stove provided a warm and relaxing atmosphere. The autumn leaves from the room and the view of Hosen Gorge within the property were stunning. This time, we used our trial Diamond membership, so late check-out went smoothly; however, it was slightly disappointing that we had to confirm during dinner to receive the Chivas Regal benefit. It seems improvements have been made compared to reviews from a few years ago, so there’s still potential for further growth.

    It was excellent.

    Stayed for 2 nights and 3 days from November 4th to 6th with my wife and elementary school daughter. We chose this accommodation because the room had an onsen open-air bath, the meals were meat-focused for my meat-loving wife, and it was easily accessible from Tokyo (Suginami Ward). The room we stayed in was called "Island Blue," a maisonette type with a spacious second-floor bedroom that could comfortably sleep four people. The first floor included a living room, kitchen, open-air bath, BBQ space, and a riverside balcony—overall very spacious. On the first day, we enjoyed a BBQ. The menu included shrimp soup, scallops, salad, vegetables, hamburgers, and steak. We splurged on Joshu beef for an additional ¥6,600 for two servings. It was quite filling! The hamburger patty was especially delicious—and of course so was the Joshu beef. Afterward in the living room, we lit up the wood stove with help from staff who made it easy to use. It warmed up so well that we didn’t need air conditioning. The open-air bath was large with soft onsen water that felt therapeutic—maybe I even lost some weight? Breakfast the next morning featured handmade bacon and sausages alongside scrambled eggs, vegetables, soup, and bread—the bacon stood out as particularly tasty. The owner here is known as a legend who ranked third nationwide in a hamburger contest! My wife and daughter wanted to try their burgers during lunch on our second day—and they were absolutely amazing! Even compared to famous burgers in Tokyo; these were unmatched. Highly recommended! For dinner that night instead of BBQs again—we had sukiyaki featuring thick cuts of meat generously portioned (too much for three people!). The quality of the meat was excellent though. This accommodation offers complimentary coffee drinks like café au lait or tea varieties plus cola etc., along w/ free French fries served daily starting at 3:30 PM which thrilled our fry-loving daughter both days! On Day Two when attempting firewood-stove-lighting ourselves—it took trial/error but eventually succeeded using last remaining fire starter stick keeping us warm till midnight creating memorable fun experiences together trying something new altogether!! We’ll definitely return soon!!

    Family Trip

    It was my first glamping experience, and I chose Shima Blue among various glamping facilities. Recently, some rooms have been renovated. Previous reviews mentioned issues such as complete darkness during nighttime bathing and inconvenient toilet access, but I could feel that Shima Blue had worked to address these problems. The bath area was well-lit at night, and the river was illuminated too, making it a fantastic experience to bathe while enjoying nature. The room layout also didn’t bother me much, allowing for a comfortable stay. However, one thing I noticed was that there was only one bath mat when going from the shower to the open-air bath, which made the floor wet. During check-in, it was sleeting outside and I wanted to use the café shared with the facility; however, possibly due to limited staff availability, I couldn’t use it at that time. Overall though, the meat, vegetables, and bouillabaisse soup were delicious and very satisfying! I’d love to visit again in a different season.

    The staff's response...

    The staff's response at check-in was good and there were no issues, but since all the staff leave by 8 PM, there wasn't much interaction. I'm a bit concerned about security. There was a contact number provided in case of any issues, but I was surprised as I've never stayed in such a place before. Also, it was mentioned that there is a refrigerator in the Room, but it's actually a "cooler," so caution is needed! I'm not sure if it's intentionally made to be a cooler due to the additional charge for bringing items in, but it was inconvenient that we couldn't use an actual refrigerator despite it being listed as such. Considering the Room grade and staff service included, this price felt quite high.

    The staff on site are working hard, but there were many disappointing aspects, such as the neighboring building being under construction. The concept is good, but it's a property that hasn't been fully refined.
