I stayed at Sasayuri-an Ozaru during my recent trip back to Japan, seeking an accommodation that embodies "Japanese essence" and offers a "special everyday experience." Nestled among mountains and located atop one of Japan's most renowned terraced rice fields, the retreat is enveloped in a serene atmosphere that feels like another world. The breathtaking views of the terraced fields floating in morning mist, the mountains bathed in sunrise or sunset hues, and especially the vibrant autumn foliage in early November made this journey truly unforgettable. The building, a beautifully restored traditional Japanese house, harmonizes nostalgia with sophistication. The warmth of the irori hearth soothes both body and mind, while views of the garden through round windows and carefully chosen furnishings create a sense of timeless tranquility. The quiet elegance of the Japanese garden was another unique highlight of this accommodation. The hosts provided warm and attentive hospitality throughout our stay—from arrival to farewell—making every moment heartfelt and memorable. Although I stayed for only one night this time, I hope to return for a multiple night stay next time to fully savor the changing light from morning to evening as well as seasonal landscapes. This is an accommodation I wholeheartedly recommend for those seeking peace and deeply fulfilling experiences.

Enjoy the breathtaking views of Nara
A year ago, due to heavy rain, we had to cancel our stay. Amid the lingering summer heat, we revisited after a year. This time, we had the pleasure of staying at a wonderful accommodation for one day. Renting an entire house with a view of Nara's mountains as the backdrop to the dry landscape garden, enjoying an evening beer was the perfect way to conclude summer. For dinner, there was a variety of alcoholic beverages available, and the shabu-shabu by the hearth was absolutely delicious. At night, gazing at a sky full of stars marked the end of our day. Knowing that this accommodation is run by your family made it feel very warm and welcoming during our stay. It was such happiness to spend a day doing nothing but relaxing peacefully— a truly special experience at Sasayuri-an. Thank you so much! We will definitely return again!

Unique Accommodation with Stunning Views in Japan
This accommodation offers breathtaking scenery, with the mountains in the background seamlessly blending with the garden to create a stunning view of Japan's simple and natural beauty. Spending time in the garden, surrounded by nature, feels incredibly luxurious, and the sound of birdsong brings a sense of calm. The warm hospitality unique to this family-run accommodation is also charming, and the staff's thoughtfulness was truly appreciated. The meals were simple yet made with high-quality ingredients, allowing us to fully enjoy their natural flavors. The only minor concern was that the bed was single-sized; however, everything else was exceptionally comfortable. Although we couldn't participate this time, there are various activities such as yoga and streamside adventures that we would love to try on our next visit. Overall, it was an excellent stay at this wonderful accommodation.

A Blissful Retreat to Rejuvenate Your Mind and Body: "Sasayuri-an" Awaits Your Return
Returning to the unforgettable experience at "Sasayuri-an." With its stunning location, exquisitely refined Japanese-style space, luxurious meals, and above all, the warm hospitality and charm of the owners, we were drawn back for a second visit. This time, we stayed one night each in "Zao" and "Ozuno." The newly built thatched-roof house "Ozuno" offers a luxurious Japanese-style space where a beautiful garden harmonizes with modern comfort. The design is incredibly lavish, reflecting the impeccable taste of the owners. The room features conch shells, authentic swords, antique furnishings, and lovely flowers arranged by the owner’s wife. Such thoughtful touches help you forget daily stress and bring peace to your heart. The view from the window is quintessentially Japanese! A meticulously maintained traditional garden with a 100-year-old tea house and dry landscape stretches out before you. Beyond it lies a breathtaking panorama of Nara's mountains—a scene as picturesque as a painting. Waking up in the morning reveals an enchanting sea of clouds below—a surreal experience that feels like stepping into another world. The crisp air combined with this awe-inspiring scenery provides an invigorating sense of tranquility. The charm of "Sasayuri-an" extends beyond its spaces; its cuisine is truly exceptional. During our previous stay, we savored Iga beef chuck flap shabu-shabu course meals; this time we enjoyed European fusion vegetarian dishes. To have such gourmet dining prepared by top chefs in this remote mountain setting was nothing short of extraordinary! Alongside delicious meals are abundant alcoholic options—craft beers and an extensive wine list make it paradise for drink enthusiasts. Fresh fruits provided in-room along with Nespresso machines for coffee lovers ensure every detail contributes to satisfaction. The owner himself practices Shugendo (mountain asceticism), sharing fascinating stories around an irori hearth or offering herbal baths overlooking their stunning garden through scenic view baths—allowing complete detachment from everyday life while enjoying serene moments. "Sasayuri-an" is truly a luxurious retreat offering unique experiences far removed from urban noise—a place where heartfelt hospitality by its owners leaves you deeply rejuvenated. Without question among all accommodations visited so far—it stands out as delivering unparalleled hospitality!

A 3 Multiple Night Stay overlooking the original landscape of Japan and the sacred area, located in Murou Fukano.
I am deeply grateful to Sasayurian Ozuno for their hospitality during my domestic trip upon returning to Japan. The location of Muro Fukano, nestled in the mountains of Uda, already heightened my anticipation for an extraordinary experience, even though the car navigation system was almost useless. However, the otherworldly feeling during my actual three-night stay starting November 23 was indescribable. Surrounded by the original landscape of Japan in the silence, in a mountain village overlooking the Muro Akame Aoyama National Park, including sacred areas, I enjoyed a moment of purification while feeling the Japanese lifestyle and traditions under the thatched roof around the irori. The Japanese garden surrounding the house was also magnificent, and the sense of unity with the sacred area, sky, and clouds was breathtaking. Due to the autumn foliage season, it was chilly in the mornings and evenings, but with the irori, air conditioning in each room, and other heating appliances well-prepared and arranged, there was no concern about temperature differences, allowing for a comfortable stay. Especially in the bathroom, the large glass windows allowed for a bath with a spectacular view, and the air conditioners placed in both the dressing room and bathroom were very helpful. A washing machine was also available, which I believe is very convenient for long travelers like us. Since it is a whole-house rental style, the close proximity to the hosts and staff made the stay personal and special. It felt as comfortable as being in my own home. The meals were also wonderful. The wild boar meat, hunted and processed by local hunters, was a delicacy without any odor, and the sukiyaki-style hot pot dinner around the irori was dynamic, delicious, and warmed us to the core. The breakfast, abundant with fruits, was not overly seasoned, very healthy, and the portions were just right, allowing us to enjoy it without any difficulty, and we never got tired of it even after eating it every day. One of the main purposes of this visit to Uda was to explore Yoshino, and since the host is an active Shugendo practitioner at Kinpusenji Temple, they provided us with personal advice and support, allowing us to enjoy the autumn foliage and World Heritage tour in Yoshino efficiently and comfortably. Additionally, the stories related to Shugendo shared by the host were very enjoyable, and the three nights passed in the blink of an eye. Thank you very much to "Sasayurian Ozuno" for creating a unique experience. I will definitely revisit when I return to Uda.
