Completely satisfied with the Onsen and breakfast!

I wanted to relax on my own for a change, found a great-value Plan, and made a Reservation. The staff welcomed me with warm smiles and guided me smoothly to my Room. They even told me where to buy delicious peaches, and I was already so happy I chose to come. After resting in my Room for a bit, I headed straight to the Onsen. It happened to be quiet at that time, so I ended up soaking for ages. I felt like my skin looked better and it really lifted my mood—so after dinner, I went back in again. Finding an Onsen I truly love was the best part of all. The ice cream after the bath was also great. Breakfast was a half-buffet featuring mainly fermented foods—and it was amazing! I especially loved the dried daikon radish and hijiki simmered in tomato sauce so much that I want to make it at home. The salmon served first was also plump and delicious; it made me think, “Is it really okay to enjoy something this luxurious in the morning?”—such a wonderful escape from everyday life. Each dish was light and refreshing, so you may find yourself eating too much—in that sense, be careful (lol). I also loved that check-out is at 11:00, which meant I could enjoy another relaxing soak in the Onsen in the morning. Everyone on staff was kind, and this has become an Accommodation I definitely want to stay at again. Thank you very much, Ryokan Meiji.

A wonderful Hotel I’d love to stay at again

The staff greeted us with warm smiles as soon as we arrived and kindly helped carry our luggage. From start to finish, everyone’s service was very attentive, and we had a truly pleasant stay. There wasn’t a kettle in the Room, but when we requested one it was delivered right away, and drinks were available free-flow in the lounge. Many places don’t allow lounge drinks to be taken back to your Room, but here they even provided paper cups so you could bring them with you. The Room didn’t have unnecessary amenities; instead, you receive only what you need upon request—modern and a great touch. Both the property and the Room felt very clean and comfortable. We’d love to stay again!

Far from the image you would expect of “Ryokan Meiji.”

I visited after reading a newspaper article about the recovery of Yumura Onsen. The large public bath Onsen was excellent, but the Ryokan’s Facility and service felt more like a Business Hotel and far from the image of “Ryokan Meiji.” Many items normally provided at a Ryokan were not available, making it inconvenient for middle-aged and older guests. When I tried to park in the rain, even though I had informed you at the time of Reservation, all spaces were blocked with red cones and I could not park anywhere, so I called. In the Room, I was told that items in the refrigerator were free to use, but there was no electric kettle, green tea, coffee, sweets, or teacups; these were said to be self-service in the lounge by the entrance or available on request. There was no printed guide for inside the building and no internal phone; we were told to use the TV or QR codes instead. Without a smartphone you cannot make internal calls at all, and even when we finally managed via QR code, reception was poor and calls would not go through. Despite being a new Facility, heavy footsteps from the second floor echoed loudly. The private open-air bath in our Room was clean, but there was no changing space; it had only a shower with no faucet fixtures (tap), and there was no chair or wash bucket—very difficult for guests with weaker legs or back. There was also no bedside light; lights had to be turned off using wall switches. There was no partition door between the entrance door and the Room interior, so insects came in. Dinner at Tokiwa Hotel was served in a room that felt like a large cafeteria-style hall, and there was no dessert. Considering the price of our Plan including breakfast and dinner plus an open-air bath Room type (or Plan), it was extremely disappointing. If you are using Osamu Dazai in your promotions, I hope you will consider providing service worthy of an Ryokan associated with such a literary figure.

    Family Trip

We stayed over the weekend with our child. We checked in at night, and the staff were kind. We made a Reservation under a Plan that allowed us to use the large public bath at the affiliated Tokiwa Hotel. We walked there with our child as a little stroll. We were told towels were provided. It was a spacious, traditional Onsen. The Homerun Bar ice cream and barley tea were delicious. Ryokan Meiji is new, and even the changing area of the large public bath has heated floors. It was inconvenient that amenities like face wash were only available in the changing area. The Room was spacious and comfortable. The separate loungewear was nice, and the towels were thick and plush. The sink area was small, so water tended to splash around. The lounge had a great variety of drinks, and the jelly desserts were very good. Since there is an inner courtyard on the way into the Room, leaving the door open for too long lets insects in. Breakfast was delicious, with fermented side dishes included. Our child went back for seconds of multigrain rice several times. Thank you very much for taking care of us during our stay.

    Business Hotel Reviews

The accommodation is new, which is a plus, but with breakfast only and a price of over 20,000 yen per person, the room feels like that of a business hotel plus. The public bath isn't very large, yet it allows non-guests to enter. There were people who seemed to have come back from golf—some sleeping on the edge of the bath, others bringing outdoor chairs into the open-air bath area to relax, and even locals chatting while eating ice cream in the small 10-tatami-sized reception area. Depending on the time of day, it was hard to relax despite coming for an onsen experience and I ended up leaving early. For a facility of this scale, allowing outside guests seems questionable. The breakfast was decent in content. While check-in included staff explaining about the facility and room details—which was nice—it was my first time carrying luggage for two people by myself! W If it were more reasonably priced, I could be satisfied; unfortunately not this time.

    Breakfast

Breakfast is a buffet with common menu items, but it was supervised by a fermentation expert and served in appropriate portions. Additionally, there were few foreign guests, making it quieter and easier to work in the Room.
