The Facility is modern, but the convenience is not great; the food is excellent.
The property had been renovated last year, and it was lovely with a modern Japanese style. However, the lighting was too dim and felt a bit inconvenient, so it would have been nice to have adjustable lighting. Also, the bed was quite low and there was only a floor chair, which might be tough for elderly guests. The bath left my skin silky smooth, and the effect lasted even after I got home. Wonderful. Niigata edamame was offered as a welcome service—local produce really is delicious. The meals were also very tasty. There was a wide selection of alcohol, which I enjoyed. I’m grateful to the staff for accommodating my requests without showing any displeasure. Thank you very much.

The Onsen was amazing!
We visited at the end of the year with our dog. Having visited Koshokan several times before, we expected the meals to be delicious, and they did not disappoint. However, we were truly impressed by the quality of the Onsen water—it felt like being immersed in lotion, leaving our skin smooth and soft. The variety of post-bath refreshments such as tea, beer, and ice cream was excellent. The Room was warm and comfortable, making for a perfect stay. Since there are only stairs available, we plan to visit again while our dog is still young. Although it’s understandable that the smoking area is outside, walking on snowy ground in midwinter was quite nerve-wracking.

Dog-friendly Accommodation
We recently stayed with 2 adults and 2 small dogs. 1. Pet-related - Provided: toilet sheets, cages, cleaning tools, and dishes - Pets can walk inside the accommodation if leashed → However, as it is a wooden building, carrying pets with mobility issues is recommended - Pets can accompany during meals; dog meals are available for an additional fee - No dog run or walking paths (ensure your pet has had enough exercise beforehand) - No snacks or treats for sale 2. Onsen - The onsen leaves your skin smooth and feels amazing - Includes a large public bath and 2 private onsen rooms → Private onsen can be reserved at reception. In the morning, they switch to male/female baths, so it's better to reserve accordingly. One overlooks a road but it’s not bothersome as no one walks there. - Amenities are well-stocked (including makeup remover) 3. Meals - Absolutely perfect; enjoying Niigata's new rice was pure bliss! - Mild flavors that anyone can enjoy easily - Drink orders via QR code 4. Other Services - Shuttle service available (needs to be added during reservation) - Complimentary ice cream and drinks in the bath area - All drinks in the room's refrigerator are free of charge - No vending machines but water and tea are provided on the first floor This is an accommodation I’d love to stay at again! However, for guests with dogs, renting a car might make walks more convenient. The staff were very friendly and made our stay comfortable. The main highlights of our trip—the onsen and meals—were truly exceptional!
