At last, I finally got to stay here.

My wife loves ancient burial mounds, so we stayed here. We were impressed by the unique concept of each Room. We stayed in the “Wood Wing.” It was a wonderful experience. We even heard bullfrogs calling from the pond in front of the Accommodation for the first time in ages (lol). We’d love to stay again in a different wing. Thank you very much.

    It was a wonderful stay.

I visited on a scorching midsummer day, and the Room—created by renovating a mandarin farmer’s home and barn—was incredibly cozy. You can also climb the ancient burial mound next to the Room; from there you get a panoramic view over Nara, and with no one around (except for the frogs in the pond), it was wonderfully quiet. I was able to fully enjoy a beautiful sunset. It was a fantastic space to take in Nara’s scenery from afar. The bath was spacious and comfortable, and the meals were unbelievably delicious and healthy. I’d love to stay again in autumn or spring!

    Healing Accommodation

Located along the Yamanobe-no-Michi trail, this Accommodation is truly irresistible for anyone who loves Nara sightseeing—especially kofun burial mounds and ancient history. You can also stop by as a café while walking the trail, and staying here lets you enjoy Yamanobe-no-Michi at a relaxed, unhurried pace, which is a major appeal. The surrounding area lies within the Yamato Kofun cluster, and the pastoral, down-to-earth scenery of open fields feels wonderfully soothing. Most unique of all is that the building is constructed on part of an actual kofun mound. You can sense the presence of the kofun right on the grounds, and the architecture incorporates many design motifs inspired by keyhole-shaped kofun—creating a special atmosphere that’s hard to experience anywhere else. The entire Accommodation follows a concept based on China’s Five Elements philosophy, bringing together medicinal cuisine, aromatherapy, incense, and the overall ambience for deep relaxation. The medicinal hot pot dinner was packed with vegetables and genuinely felt nourishing. It was also more than filling enough—comforting food that really sank in after a long day of walking. For kofun enthusiasts, another highlight is being able to chat about burial mounds with the owner and staff. They also shared lots of tips about comparing local Nara sake varieties, making for an especially enjoyable time. One particularly fascinating point is that while nearby Nishitonozuka Kofun is designated by Japan’s Imperial Household Agency as Princess Tashiraka’s mausoleum, some believe that Nishiyamazuka Kofun—where this Accommodation stands—is actually her true resting place. Princess Tashiraka was Empress to Emperor Keitai; regarding Emperor Keitai as well, Imashirozuka Kofun in Takatsuki City is now considered his true mausoleum by many researchers. In other words, there may be differences between official designation and academic identification for both imperial tombs—and here you can actually enter what are thought to be both “true mausoleum” sites themselves—an exceptionally rare experience. This was a one-of-a-kind Accommodation where Nara’s nature, medicinal cuisine, healing ambience, ancient history, and kofun culture come together beautifully. Highly recommended not only for kofun fans but also for anyone who wants to walk Yamanobe-no-Michi slowly or savor quiet “Nara time.” I would absolutely love to stay again.

I was able to refresh and recharge my energy.

I heard from an acquaintance that this was a wonderful place, and it made me want to visit, so I quickly put together a travel plan and made a Reservation. The location, the Room, the meals, and the hospitality were all truly wonderful, and I enjoyed every moment. The medicinal cuisine and tea were delicious, and choosing the two-meal option with my stay was absolutely the right decision. I discovered how delicious Yamato Toki is. Thank you for the wonderful meal.

I’d like to stay in a different Room next time.

Set right next to an ancient burial mound, it was a wonderfully mysterious place—hototogisu calls in the morning and insects at night—truly felt like stepping into another world. The themed Rooms were made with natural materials such as plaster and wood, and for someone usually surrounded by concrete, it was an exceptionally comfortable space. (The bath was modern and spacious.) The meals were medicinal cuisine as well, which was also my first time, and a great new experience. Highly recommended for anyone who wants to be surrounded by nature and feel a sense of ancient history. Next time, I’d love to stay at least two nights, ideally in a different Room.

A Relaxing Accommodation Recommended for Girls’ Trips

I happened to find this Accommodation on IKYU. I had quite a few concerns—would the meal portions be satisfying, would it truly feel like an escape from everyday life, and what would the Room be like? Still, I trusted the Reviews and decided to stay. It felt even more extraordinary than I had imagined. Because you enjoy the meals slowly while sipping local sake, the portions were enough (though for men it would probably not be quite enough). There were countless stylish, soothing touches that could easily become photo spots, and the Accommodation itself felt completely out of the ordinary. Since it is a renovated traditional house, there are a few minor inconveniences in terms of Facilities—but even that added to the unique atmosphere. The presence of the two proprietresses also matched the character of this place perfectly. It was deeply relaxing and a wonderful change of pace. And actually, perhaps thanks to how good the food was, I even started feeling better physically. If I have another chance, I will definitely return. Thank you very much for taking care of us during our stay.

Stand atop an ancient burial mound and take in panoramic views of Tenri City.

We walked the Yamanobe-no-Michi trail from Isonokami Shrine to Kofunia. The Room, a charming renovated traditional house, was full of playful touches. Both dinner and breakfast were vegetable-focused medicinal cuisine, yet still very filling, and the seasoning was delicious. The staff were kind and cheerful—an excellent Accommodation.

Relax with delicious medicinal cuisine and drinks.

I stayed at the Kin-no-Tou for the first time. The medicinal cuisine, which I thought might be a bit plain and formal, turned out to be made with carefully selected ingredients, gentle seasoning, and a wide variety of dishes—all of which were absolutely delicious. My sake-loving friend was thrilled with the selection of Japanese sake like "Kaze no Mori," "Tsumugu," and "Shinobu" and thoroughly enjoyed them. The room was serene and simple. The pleasant scent of Nemohamo shampoo products and the soft-touch linen were very soothing. If possible, I recommend arriving at the accommodation while it's still bright outside to explore the nearby area or climb Nishiyama Tsuuka Kofun behind it. This is an accommodation where you can truly enjoy not just your stay but also its surrounding environment. Except for not having an Onsen, this accommodation was highly satisfying!

    It was a relaxing experience.

This was our second stay at the accommodation, following last year. This time, my daughter and I stayed in the "Kogane Wing." The heartfelt medicinal cuisine and carefully selected amenities and linens allowed us to relax both physically and mentally. This time, we used public transportation for sightseeing purposes. I feel that if we had stayed here with the main purpose of enjoying the accommodation itself, we could have appreciated it even more. That is my only regret. It’s an accommodation I would love to stay at again. Thank you very much!
