    The location was excellent.

The location was excellent. The building felt a bit dated, but overall I thought it was a good Accommodation.

The actual room may differ from the photos.

The entrance looks impressive and Japanese-style, but once inside it feels like an old Hotel. The Room is Japanese-style. The front desk staff seemed like typical Hotel employees, while the guides and dinner attendants felt more like traditional inn staff, so it lacked a consistent atmosphere. It felt unusual and different from the photos. The dining area was more like a cafeteria. We were served whole abalone and fugu sashimi, but the flavors were quite strong and had a casual, cafeteria-like feel. At both dinner and breakfast, the servers were wearing perfume, which was a bit noticeable. The location is great for taking a walk. There was no advance information about rental bicycle fees. My companion thought it was free, and I thought it was 300 yen per ride, but in fact it was 200 yen per hour.

An intricate blend of Japanese and Western styles...

I visited with high expectations, but it was quite ordinary... The style is a mixed Japanese and Western design. It’s old, but it feels clean. The meals are generous in portion size, but not luxurious. The staff service is excellent; many of the employees are older, and their calm demeanor is wonderful.

    Highly satisfied

Great location, excellent facilities, and delicious meals—plus truly outstanding service. Although the team is small, every staff member is a seasoned professional. We would definitely love to stay again.

I’d love to stay here again.

All the staff were kind and pleasant. The only disappointment was the garden in front of the lobby—it felt more like an English garden. Since this is Hagi Castle San-no-Maru, I thought it would be better if a Japanese garden stood out first. That said, the current garden was well maintained and lovely.

Thank you for a wonderful day.

Everything was perfect in every way. The setting, cleanliness, and the delicious dinner and breakfast were all wonderful. It was also fun that each Room we stayed in was different. Even though it was midsummer, the garden flowers were in full bloom like a picture—truly impressive. This time we traveled from Yuda to Hagi and then Matsue, but next time we would like to come to Hagi and stay longer at a relaxed pace.

    A wonderful atmosphere.

The hospitality was worthy of an Accommodation located within a World Heritage site. The Facility was a well-arranged renovation of an old building. Dinner was luxurious, with sashimi, abalone, pufferfish, meat, and more. Breakfast was a standard Japanese meal; the venue was a Western-style Room facing the garden, but since we were traveling with a toddler, we were shown to an adjacent small Room instead, which was disappointing. Overall, it was very good.

The Wi-Fi was barely working. Other than that, we were very satisfied.

Staying in Hagi for the First Time in 40 Years

We stayed at your Hotel during our trip to Hagi. It was exceptionally hot right after the end of the rainy season, and walking around town was quite exhausting, but thanks to all of your staff we were able to spend our time comfortably. Our Room was a spacious Japanese-Western suite (assigned by the Hotel), and not only the Room but also the in-house Facility areas and the large public bath were thoroughly cleaned and very comfortable. The meals were excellent in taste, variety, and portion size—we were completely satisfied. The large public bath is not very big, but the water temperature suited my preference and helped relieve travel fatigue. We also appreciated that it alternated between men and women in the morning and evening. Seeing your staff’s high level of hospitality made it clear that training is well established. If we visit Hagi again, this is a Hotel we would definitely like to stay at once more. One small request: these days we are grateful just to have an indoor smoking room, but if possible, it would help if you could block direct sunlight (the western sun) with something like a roller shade. In this season, it felt like being in a sauna in the evening.

    ふうりゅう!

It was a bit disappointing, especially since I had high expectations.

Three classmates and I stayed at this Hotel to celebrate our 60th birthdays. It couldn’t be helped that the building didn’t match the image we had in mind, but perhaps due to staff shortages, the shop was only open for limited hours and even closed during the day for breaks. The staff who carried our luggage and guided us to our Room, as well as those serving meals, were all quite elderly, and we ended up feeling sorry for them. Before dinner we used the bath, and when we came out both water dispensers were empty. We informed the front desk, but they remained empty until night. It was also disappointing that dinner was served in a large hall despite how delicious it was; at minimum, we would have preferred semi-private seating. The garden was beautifully maintained and wonderful. It’s a good Hotel overall, but we were slightly disappointed with the service.

I’d wanted to stay here for a long time because it’s an Accommodation at a World Heritage site. It was great to be able to take a relaxed walk around the Hotel and do some sightseeing on foot. We stayed in the new wing, but we could hear noise from next door or the floor above, which was a bit disappointing. Other than that, the Room was clean and well kept. The food was delicious and we were very satisfied. The pudding was amazing.

    A Journey of Wabi-Sabi

The surrounding area has a very calm, relaxing atmosphere, and it was a satisfying stay that truly put my mind at ease for the first time in a while. The next day, there were nearby boat tours, Hagi ware, and an impressive museum as well. I had a wonderful time.

A very attractive location and building

We stayed as a family. The location in the heart of Hagi was excellent, and the building was beautiful and solid, with a wonderful sense of history. We had planned a Multiple Night Stay to relax on the day in between, but unfortunately we could not use either the large public bath or the study room from the next morning until check-in time, and dinner was at a different venue than the previous day, so it felt that Multiple Night Stays were not well accommodated. Hagi is a truly lovely town, so if these points change in the future, we would love to stay again.

Although the exterior is traditionally Japanese, I was surprised by the contrast of the Western-style garden. The location was excellent and convenient for sightseeing. The Room, hallways, dining area, and other spaces were all very well maintained.

Maybe my expectations were too high.

I really struggled with how to rate this Accommodation. From the name Kitamon Yashiki and the photos, I expected a stately, historic building, but it turned out to be an incomplete Western-style building—British-style?—which was a bit disappointing. Despite the British-style building, our Room was shown to us by a local grandmother-type staff member. I felt bad having her guide us all the way to our faraway Room while she was out of breath. The image of the building and the Room didn’t match. The Onsen water quality was very good, and the shower pressure was also good. What disappointed me was that the open-air bath was far too small. Dinner was okay. Abalone, fugu (pufferfish), Japanese black wagyu beef, etc. weren’t bad, but there wasn’t a single dish that felt truly outstanding. Breakfast was honestly just average. What I did like was how beautiful the various rare flowers blooming in the garden were. I was also honestly surprised that bicycle rental cost extra at this price; many Hotels and Accommodations I’ve stayed at offered them for free. Sorry for being a bit harsh.

We were able to stay during a wonderful season.

Although the Accommodation has an impressive, traditional-looking entrance, the interior is very casual, and thanks to the staff’s attentive service we were able to relax and enjoy a leisurely stay. The baths were well equipped, and the meals were high quality and delicious. The garden was in full bloom with colorful flowers, and we enjoyed a walk after breakfast.

    Thank you for taking...

Thank you for taking care of us during our Multiple Night Stay. This was a trip to Hagi with my daughter. We visited Hagi when she was still very young, but now she’s a big fan of Takasugi, so this time we definitely wanted to stay at an Accommodation located within the World Heritage area. All of your staff were extremely knowledgeable about Hagi—so much so that they could have been guides—and the fun facts you shared with us between serving dishes were truly fascinating. The staff member who showed us to our Room—while we took the elevator, they ran up the stairs, and they were even faster than the elevator! We were amazed. The meals were also delicious, and the tableware was beautiful. We really appreciated that you changed the menu on the second night so we could enjoy a variety of dishes. Your staff greeted us whenever we passed each other, which made our stay very pleasant. We also took a walk around the garden. It was well maintained, and it was wonderful to see the Kawazu cherry blossoms and camellias in full bloom. One amenity item I would like to request is a deodorizing spray for clothing, as odors can sometimes cling to outerwear after sightseeing or dining. Hagi is truly a town where you can feel how much everyone loves it. I’m a little envious that you have such a hometown to be proud of. There are still many places we haven’t been able to visit yet, so next time as well, we would love to stay with Hokumon Yashiki again.

    In my personal opinion, ...

The meals were delicious, the Onsen was very relaxing, and the location was excellent—it was great that we could walk to the historic castle town for sightseeing.\nThe Ryokan had a Japanese-style exterior and a more Western-style feel inside; perhaps this reflects the era in which it was built.\nWe were able to spend a comfortable and restful time.

The meals were delicious, and the staff were all very kind, making for a pleasant stay. However, it was disappointing that the water in the open-air bath was lukewarm and felt cold.

The suite was not quite what I expected, but the food was excellent.

The fugu kaiseki was absolutely delicious, making any other concerns fade away. This Ryokan has a strong mix of Japanese and Western styles, giving it a surprisingly casual feel. Due to Hagi City's strict landscape regulations, the low-rise and elongated building design with guest rooms was quite interesting. As for the room, there were some minor disappointments. Despite choosing an open-air suite, we were told to adjust the Onsen water ourselves as it was 60 degrees Celsius. The air conditioning was also noticeable, and the central tatami room wasn't very convenient for us due to mobility issues. However, we deeply appreciated the kindness and dedication of all staff members in their hospitality efforts. Above all else, what stood out most was the fugu kaiseki meal. Initially skeptical about the food due to our impression of the room's atmosphere, those doubts quickly disappeared once we started dining. Every dish was exceptional! The fugu sashimi served as part of Mukozuke had an impressive portion size that could have been satisfying even with just rice alongside it. All subsequent dishes like Rikyu-yaki were equally delicious and filling. The timing of dish service by staff members was also well-executed. One small surprise came when I wanted to order thick-cut fugu sashimi (butsu), which I usually enjoy but found unavailable on their menu; however, this did not detract from my overall enjoyment of every dish. This visit marked my first time sightseeing in Hagi City. While I felt their efforts in preserving historical heritage tied to Meiji Restoration figures were commendable—such as maintaining pride in these legacies—the unmanned Hagi Station or somewhat neglected appearance of Tokoji Temple gave off a slightly lonely impression. Additionally, access routes into Hagi could be improved for better convenience. During our morning walk along Kiku-no-Hama beach after staying at this accommodation facility (Accommodation), we had an encounter with young female travelers who mentioned visiting "Matsushita Murajuku" but expressed confusion about its significance—leaving me feeling disappointed too regarding how local pride initiatives might need further enhancement toward revitalizing tourism appeal Great location.

The abalone served at dinner was particularly exquisite. The location is highly recommended for enjoying meals, the open-air bath, and exploring the castle town. However, during breakfast, I noticed that it would be preferable if the staff serving food wore masks. Bringing dishes close to their mouths while saying "Thank you for waiting" felt unhygienic as there is a risk of contamination. (During dinner service, staff maintained a reasonable distance when handling trays, so there were no issues.)
