I was disappointed by the first thing I heard when I called for help.

At bedtime, there was a glaring light that would not turn off no matter which switch I tried, so I called the front desk for help. A male staff member casually said, “Weren’t you given an explanation?” and then told me how to turn it off. At check-in, I was simply handed the key and went to my Room on my own, so I did not receive any such explanation. The switch was in a hard-to-find place and would have been difficult to locate without being shown. Having to keep searching for a switch for a light that won’t turn off before going to sleep may seem minor, but it is surprisingly stressful. More than the fact that the switch was hard to find, I was disappointed that instead of acknowledging my situation, his first words were “Weren’t you given an explanation?”—and that was all he said. When staying at an Accommodation listed on this site, I believe we are purchasing not only the Facility itself but also a comfortable experience and peace of mind. Unfortunately, when I think of this Accommodation now, this incident is the first thing that comes to mind.

    This is my first stay.

What I was dissatisfied with - Even though I wrote “oyster allergy” in the notes section on the Yahoo Travel Reservation page, oysters were served. When I told them that I have an oyster allergy and had informed them both at the time of Reservation and at check-in, the dish was taken away, but no replacement dish was provided. - A previous Review mentioned that the seasoning was strong; one of the appetizers was extremely salty. - The sashimi seemed to have been prepared quite early and kept in a refrigerator before being served, so it lacked freshness. It also included items that did not seem like local fish, which was disappointing given that I stayed at a Ryokan near the sea. - I stayed on a very hot day, and it was uncomfortably hot inside the elevator and in the hallway on my floor; I would like to see measures taken. - Personally, I was quite bothered by the silver piping visible through gaps in the ceiling boards. What I liked - The Onsen water in both the in-room bath and the large public bath was silky and gave me a real sense of being in an Onsen, which was great. Many other Onsen areas claim to be Onsen but don’t feel like it at all; this one truly did. - The drink and snack service until evening, as well as the alcohol service after dinner, were excellent. - For breakfast we chose both Japanese-style and Western-style meals. Both were delicious with many dishes, and we were very satisfied.

    Everything is excellent.

This time, we were able to check in from 1:00 and relax. We could also use the lounge, which was excellent. The food, service, and Room were all very good. Finally, we even received some bread as a souvenir, and checked out in a great mood.

I found a really great accommodation.

The bread was very delicious, especially the simple breads. If I had to mention any negatives, it would be that there was no massage chair and I wish the amenities were a bit better. The hot water was excellent—smooth and slightly thick, really wonderful.

The food, drinks, and service are excellent.

The meals, service, views, and Facility were all excellent—nothing to complain about. It was a shame the weather wasn’t good.

The food could use a bit more care.

This was my first stay. The Facility and room had been renovated and were clean and well maintained. The meals were delicious, but (I’m not a chef) the meat and tuna were not trimmed enough, and the enoki mushrooms were cut poorly at the base, so I don’t think people with weaker chewing strength could fully enjoy them. I also felt that families with children may need to choose their timing carefully, as some children shouted loudly in the hallway and swam in the bath. The service was kind and pleasant, just as other Reviews said. I visit every year for early-summer squid, so I’d like to keep this as one of my options. The loaf bread we received as a souvenir was also very tasty with a nice milky flavor. Thank you for your hospitality.

    A Stunning Space

I had the pleasure of staying in the newly renovated “Minna” at Betsuyu. As you’d expect from a Good Design Award winner, the space was so impressive that I couldn’t help but gasp when I entered. The Room was exceptional in every way—its generous size, high ceilings, and luxurious private Onsen, sauna, and wash area created a one-of-a-kind layout. Saunas can sometimes feel enclosed, but being able to enjoy it while looking out at the sea made it truly outstanding. The service was excellent as well, with great Diamond member benefits. From the delicious ohagi welcome sweets to late-night snacks and even bread as a souvenir, everything was more than satisfying. I chose a crab course for dinner that was slightly out of season, so next time I’d like to visit in a different season and enjoy other dishes. There is also a large public bath, but having everything—Onsen, sauna, and cold bath—complete within my own Room made this an incredibly satisfying stay. Thank you very much for your hospitality.

Although it was a Western-style room, it only had a desk and floor chair, which were uncomfortable and made it hard to relax. A two-seater sofa would have been better.

An Accommodation You’ll Want to Return to Again and Again

This was my third stay in just over six months, after visiting for the first time last autumn. Each time, I’m welcomed warmly. There are various services and surprises, but it’s not exactly the same every time. If everything felt like a fixed routine, I might think, “Oh, this is just included in the price.” Instead, they offer thoughtful hospitality that changes with the day and the moment. So I won’t go into details here—I can’t promise you’ll receive the exact same service when you visit. But if you stay here, I’m sure you’ll understand! People talk about “diminishing marginal utility,” but this Accommodation is the opposite: satisfaction keeps increasing, making it a place you’ll want to return to again and again.

    A highly satisfying Accommodation.

We were welcomed with a welcome drink and ohagi, followed by complimentary soft drinks and snacks, and in the evening there was also alcohol service. At dinner we enjoyed a special dish from the head chef, and although we chose a Japanese breakfast, French toast was also served. There were plenty of extra treats as well, including grilled squid and chikuwa as a late-night snack—an Accommodation full of thoughtful services. Both breakfast and dinner were served in private dining rooms, so we could relax. All staff members greeted us with smiles and provided pleasant service. The Room was thoroughly cleaned down to every detail, making our stay very comfortable. Checkout is at 11:00 a.m., so we were able to take our time with a morning bath and enjoy a relaxing morning. Amenities: 4 — I would have liked to be able to choose between samue loungewear or yukata. Meals: 4 — Even the smaller-portion Plan still felt quite generous. This was our second stay, and it’s an Accommodation we would love to return to.

Completely satisfied with the new guest room bath.

We stayed in “Sho,” one of the four new guest Rooms on the 5th floor. It is the smallest of the four, but at 37 m² it was more than spacious enough for the two of us. Since it has only been open for a year and a half, everything was very clean and we had a comfortable stay. In particular, the hinoki bath in our Room had a wonderful cypress aroma—I could have stayed in it forever. We had dinner in Room 301 (usually available to stay in, but vacant that day). We were able to enjoy our meal in a very calm setting. The sashimi platter was gorgeous and delicious. The red snow crab sushi was also excellent. If I had to mention one drawback, the Tajima beef sirloin steak was a bit tough with sinew; thinly sliced meat might have been better. We also appreciated that they packed some chikuwa and squid as a late-night snack for us to take back to our Room. From 19:30 in the lobby, they offered sake, whisky, plum wine, Calpis, orange juice, coffee, bean snacks, chocolate, and more. All of the staff were pleasant as well, making our stay truly enjoyable. Thank you very much.

A wonderful Accommodation just as described in the Reviews

Stayed on February 19. A small, quiet seaside Accommodation. I stay in the Tango Peninsula once or twice a year, and this Accommodation was truly spotless everywhere and very comfortable. Just as the Reviews said, the food was genuinely delicious. The crab at dinner was large and very satisfying, and the late-night oden was also outstanding. In February, our wedding anniversary and birthday overlapped—thank you very much for even giving us a gift. Breakfast was delicious as well. It was Japanese-style, but the bread was also excellent; I heard it’s sold next door to the Accommodation, so I bought some on the way home. The staff were kind, and it was an Accommodation that made me feel truly glad I came. Very satisfied.

    We’d love to come back!

This was our first stay. The Room was spacious and clean, and the kids were thrilled. There was more crab than we could finish, and the private dining Room was also spacious, so even after the kids were full, they could relax comfortably. Breakfast was delicious as well. The kids had a Western-style meal with a choice of bread, and the service was excellent—it’s easy to see why so many guests return. We would love to come again next year.

    As we stayed right a...

As we stayed right after a heavy snowfall, the large public bath ended up being private—perhaps due to cancellations. It was indeed the Tango Peninsula, with tall walls of snow on both sides of the roads, but there were no expressway closures from the Keihanshin area, and I think access is fine as long as you have studless tires. Above all, tourist spots around Amanohashidate were packed with foreign tour groups despite the weather. Our Room was a renovated one on the top floor. It had a great view of the Sea of Japan and underfloor heating, so we stayed very comfortably. That said, although it may be unavoidable due to the layout, there are a few points for improvement: the washing area in the bathroom is small; we would have liked the heat-retaining sheet for the wooden bathtub to have been removed before entering; and it would have been helpful to be told that hot water is automatically added. The Diamond Service champagne was served in an ice bucket and was delicious. Amenities were well stocked. There were two types of loungewear; if you prefer a yukata, they are available next to reception. There is also a post-bath gown. The free drinks in the refrigerator were more than sufficient—not only water but also salted soda, beer, and tea. One disappointment with the coffee setup was that there was no milk or sugar for drip coffee. Dinner was a full crab course plus an extra dish from the head chef—so much that we couldn’t finish it. In fact, we asked for containers and everyone took home their whole crab (as shown in photos). We all skipped the late-night oden as well. There is also a free-drink corner at reception with various types of sake, but we passed on that too. The only thing we still made room for after leaving the large public bath was an ice pop. For breakfast, fluffy shokupan from next door’s bakery was served; takeout bags were provided, so we took some home as well. This Accommodation offers excellent value for money if you’re coming in winter specifically for crab cuisine—I highly recommend it.

    About Infant Charges

A fee of 6,000 yen for a child under 2 years old feels expensive. It seems high considering no bedding or meals are being used.

    It was great!

It may not be luxurious, but the meals, Onsen, and staff service left a very positive impression. Although there are time restrictions, I was impressed by the complimentary drinks and snacks offered at the front desk. Additionally, being able to use a fresh bath towel every time in the large public bath was a delightful service. These small touches left a lasting good impression.

If you want to enjoy crab!

We enjoyed a full crab course, including crab miso, crab sashimi, grilled crab, tempura, boiled crab, and hot pot with crab. Highly recommended for experiencing various flavors of crab. We visited to celebrate our parents' wedding anniversary and were grateful for the complimentary celebratory drink provided by the staff.

    Comfortable Hotel

I stayed at the accommodation to enjoy crab dishes. I was amazed by the variety of crabs I had never tried before. Absolutely satisfying! I enjoyed a delicious meal to my heart's content. The room, lobby, stairs, hallways, and elevator were incredibly clean and well-maintained. The restrooms on each floor were also spotless and thoroughly cleaned, making it very comfortable. The lobby had various chairs and sofas where I could relax. There was complimentary coffee, juice, and snacks available—coffee was delicious! I especially loved the shiso juice as well. Sitting on the sofa with a cup of coffee while watching the seaside was truly soothing. The bread from the adjacent bakery was also delightful. I'd love to try more varieties next time. It was a clean and beautiful hotel with highly satisfying meals. Thank you very much! I'll definitely come back for more crab!

    It was excellent.

This was our second stay, and this time we stayed to celebrate both of our December birthdays. We were very satisfied last time, and once again, we had an absolutely wonderful experience. The meals were plentiful, served warm when appropriate, and the variety of drinks was excellent. They even prepared a small celebration for our birthdays, which made it a truly happy moment for us. The bath, room, and entire accommodation were clean, and above all, the staff were kind and attentive, making it extremely comfortable. We would love to visit every year! Thank you very much!

    Satisfying Meals

The portion was too large for two people, and we couldn't touch the crab rice cooked in the pot. The staff kindly provided a container for us to take it back, and we stored it in the Room's refrigerator to enjoy the next day. Both of us were so full that my wife couldn't finish her breakfast either. A young trainee employee from the Philippines spoke excellent Japanese and explained everything politely. The Koshihikari rice cooked in the pot was delicious both with dinner and breakfast. After dinner, we enjoyed local sake at the drink bar near reception, which made us very satisfied. Thank you very much!

    Perfect portion size

We enjoyed a mini crab full course in a clean facility with spacious private rooms. Starting with boiled crab, the timing of each dish was perfect, allowing us to fully enjoy the course. Grilled crab and rice porridge were freshly prepared and absolutely delicious. Although our stay was short, we also had time to enjoy the Onsen. We definitely want to visit again next year!
