The Onsen is amazing.
The Onsen is amazing! If you look for them, you can find various small issues, but the Onsen makes up for everything. I just wish there were more rooms with a private Onsen.

There is no drinking water Facility in the bathroom.
I was surprised that there was no drinking water available in the changing room at the Onsen Facility. To drink water, you have to get dressed and go outside the entrance to the drinking fountain. When I asked the Ryokan staff, they told me that if I wanted to drink, I should drink tap water from the faucet next to the sauna. I was quite shocked.

A Birthday Celebration Trip Along the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route
We stayed here to celebrate my best friend’s birthday. The Room was spacious, and it was great to be able to use two baths—one for day-use guests and one for overnight guests. The meals were delicious, and we were very happy to receive a birthday gift at the time dessert was served at dinner. We also enjoyed having a birthday party in the Room. Since we checked out at 7:15 a.m. to go to the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route, we would like to stay longer next time. Thank you very much.

The hot springs and hospitality are wonderful.
My mother’s family home is in Kurobe City, and for decades my family has teased me about how I nearly drowned here as a child. I visited again for the first time in over 50 years. The hot spring at Kofukaku was wonderful, but I especially liked the baths at Karuna-no-Yakata. The meals were good overall, but I’d like to see more local specialties at breakfast (especially kamaboko).

The open-air bath in...
The open-air bath in the Room was small, but acceptable. However, the meals were not good. I would be willing to pay a bit more if better-quality ingredients were used. I also wish breakfast were offered with separate options for buffet and set meals. It was disappointing because there was no relaxing atmosphere at all.

A lively Accommodation with a great atmosphere.
As an Onsen enthusiast who won’t be satisfied unless it’s free-flowing from the source, I found this one truly impressive. Joining the behind-the-scenes tour and seeing how the pipes get clogged with quartz made me feel the minerals dissolved in the water even more. It tastes slightly salty if you try a sip. With Mt. Tateyama in the background and the Sea of Japan right in front of you, the setting is outstanding. I recommend hearing directly on-site how Kintaro Onsen got its name.

The hot water was excellent.
The combination of sulfur and salt Onsen is quite rare. I was soothed by the natural flow of the hot spring water. The cushions on the chairs in the dining area were perfectly comfortable, allowing me to relax and enjoy a delicious meal. This is a Ryokan I would love to visit again.

Have fun with friends!
A private room was provided for dining with companions, allowing us to enjoy a pleasant time.

Public Bath
The private bathroom in the room is not an Onsen, so I went to the large public bath on the first day. However, all the showers and faucets in the washing area of the large public bath only had a weak flow... It took a very long time.

The expectations were high, but...
I had high expectations for a one-night stay costing over 40,000 yen in Uozu, known for its delicious seafood, but I was disappointed. Upon check-in, I asked the female staff member who guided me to the hard-to-find elevator, "This is a large ryokan. How many rooms are there?" Her curt response of "I don't know" left me disheartened right from the start. The onsen was crowded even at the early hour of 3 PM, likely due to its shared use with day-trip visitors. I wanted to enjoy the open-air bath or sauna but gave up and used the indoor bath reserved for accommodation guests instead. The quality of the spring water was excellent. The dinner I had been looking forward to was served in a cold and somewhat lonely dining hall resembling a large banquet room; it consisted of a rather modest kaiseki course meal. It felt like such a waste that they couldn't make better use of their prime location offering views of both the Sea of Japan and Tateyama Mountain Range or their high-quality onsen facilities. Additionally, drinks at the free drink corner ran out quickly. I sincerely hope that management will return to focusing on service excellence and work hard towards improvement efforts moving forward.

Stayed at the accommodation on a friend's recommendation.
When asked what was good after staying, it felt neither particularly good nor bad. For the price, the value for money seemed not very satisfactory. The room was a special room reservation, so it was very clean and furnished with plenty of local wooden furniture, making it comfortable and relaxing. I was glad I reserved a private dining plan at the restaurant. If it had been in the same venue as breakfast, we would have ended up having dinner in an atmosphere similar to that of a business hotel. However, the private dining room itself was plain and not very appealing. At 8 AM when I went to the breakfast venue, there was almost nothing left to eat, which surprised me. Considering we paid 50,000 yen per person, I would have preferred a proper meal served in a private room for breakfast even if it were just a set menu. The buffet had almost no vegetables or side dishes left; apart from miso soup and rice, there were no warm dishes at all. Overall it felt sparse—breakfast at an attentive business hotel might have been better by comparison. As for the food itself, there wasn’t anything memorable about it—not bad but nothing outstanding either. Since this is Toyama Prefecture after all, wouldn’t increasing their sake selection be worthwhile? With only limited options available during our visit as part of a group of three sake enthusiasts—we quickly grew bored. Regarding onsen facilities: foreign guests were excessively noisy while neglecting pre-bath rinsing etiquette (kakeyu), leaving me disheartened enough ultimately opting instead toward using my unit bath within my own accommodation space featuring ordinary tap water akin more closely resembling everyday apartment-style bathing experiences rather than unique escapes sought through natural hot springs immersion opportunities initially anticipated upon booking here specifically due largely towards expectations surrounding authentic flowing-source baths being offered onsite... The hot spring was excellent.
The building shows its age, but the Room and lobby have been renovated, making it comfortable. The food was delicious, but I wished for more Toyama-style fish, such as sashimi. It felt a bit overthought.

The facility is spacious.
The reviews were good, and it was listed as a 5-star hotel. The photos of the open-air bath looked amazing, so my expectations were high, but it turned out to be average. I have stayed at various ryokan facilities before, and the kaiseki meals were also average. The open-air bath I was most looking forward to was accessible to day-trip guests as well, making it feel like a public bathhouse rather than something exclusive for staying guests. There was no sense of special treatment for accommodation guests. In terms of hygiene, it didn’t feel particularly clean either. It was also disappointing that the large communal bath exclusively for staying guests did not have an open-air bath. The room, front desk area, and souvenir shop were very clean. The hairdryers in the large communal bath were ordinary. The pool felt outdated and seemed more suitable for children. It wasn’t bad overall; I was satisfied with the customer service from staff at the front desk and elsewhere, but everything felt just average overall.

The hot spring water has excellent properties.
The Room was neat and tidy. The building is old but has been renovated, giving it a calm and clean atmosphere. The sulfur-scented hot water was slightly hot but felt good for the body, providing a satisfying bath experience. As for the meals, it left a feeling of wanting more local dishes to be served.

The bath was large and had various types, which was great. It would have been better if the Room faced the mountain side. It was disappointing that there was no desk (a table for writing) in the Room.

Onsen is great for enjoying cherry blossom viewing, but
The Ryokan is so spacious that you might get lost. The Onsen is shared with day visitors, offering various types of baths and excellent water quality. The fully bloomed large cherry blossoms were a highlight. However, the overall Facility feels outdated. The meals had a sufficient variety but were average in taste. While I was looking forward to sashimi, there was no local fish, which was disappointing. The Himi beef, however, was delicious. Breakfast had many options but lacked flavorful dishes overall, which was also disappointing.

My mother was delighted!
I traveled from Aichi with my elderly mother and sister. The Room, Onsen, meals (dinner and breakfast), and service were all impeccable, and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves from check-in to check-out! What stood out the most was how my mother seemed so happy the entire time (which is rare as she is usually quite critical). She even said, "I want to come again. I wish it were a bit closer to home." I would love to visit again. We had a truly wonderful time. Thank you very much.

The limits of a large Facility...
The facility was well-equipped, allowing us to spend the New Year leisurely. However, the dinner service was in a dire situation. Due to the low operational capability, some guests were so exasperated that they left the dining venue. Operational capability... In short, the overwhelming slowness of service, lack of explanation for the meals provided, forgetting the menu items to be served, etc. Additionally, the food was not very tasty, resulting in a disastrous experience. I think the facility is wonderful, but ultimately, it is "people" who operate it. As it becomes increasingly difficult to secure personnel, I felt that exceeding the guest capacity in a large facility leads to a decline in service. To think this is a five-star hotel... I was expecting more, so it's disappointing.

I had a great time.
The room was not as expected. It was a high-grade price for this property. However, I was satisfied with the meals. I enjoyed dishes made with fresh fish from Toyama Bay. Also, the draft beer, it was my first time trying this brand, and it was excellent. Additionally, I am always impressed by the fresh flowers every time I visit. The fresh flowers are always splendid.

The bath was very nice.
I read the reviews and felt the goodness of the hot springs, the meals, and the pleasant customer service, and I think it was a good choice for everyone to enjoy. However, one thing that caught my attention was that although we hoped for a large room for our group of eight, the ventilation was insufficient for the size, making it constantly dusty when people moved around, which might not be recommended for those with allergies like house dust. At the breakfast buffet, we enjoyed a wide variety of local ingredients. Thank you for taking care of us.
