    Could it be due to a staff shortage?

    None of the washing areas in the bathroom seemed to have been cleaned—chairs, buckets, faucets, etc. I have stayed at many Accommodations, but this was my first time having such an experience. No matter how good the other services are, I felt it would all be negated. I had no concerns about the cleanliness of the other Facilities.

    It was very relaxing.

    The Onsen was a comfortable size and felt wonderful. The bamboo bath was especially relaxing. Since there is an Onsen for guests, we were able to enjoy it at a leisurely pace. The meals were buffet-style, and everything was delicious, with a menu that both adults and children could enjoy. If the observatory had been available, we could have enjoyed Kurokawa’s night sky even more. We knew it was out of order, but since there was a poster displayed, our child got excited and ended up disappointed.

    Invoice for Others

    At check-in, the receptionist misheard my name and presented me with another guest's statement. After clarifying the mistake, I was given the correct statement, but later I was shown an invoice that also belonged to a different guest. I reviewed it thoroughly and only noticed at the end that the name was incorrect. Sharing personal information with others is unacceptable, and it made me uneasy thinking my personal details might have been exposed as well. I chose a Room with a balcony by the river equipped with chairs, but there was no privacy screen between balconies. I upgraded to this Room to enjoy cooling off on the balcony after bathing, so this was disappointing. The meals were at a level suitable for group dining. There are two family baths available, but there is always one group waiting, resulting in over 30 minutes of wait time.

    For your 35th wedding anniversary

    We visited Kurokawa Onsen to celebrate our 35th wedding anniversary. Considering the quality of the onsen, service, and location, we were able to fully experience the charm of Kurokawa Onsen. What we especially recommend is enjoying onsen hopping as a couple (using the bathing pass while also enjoying the baths at our accommodation), allowing us to try various types of onsen water. The only downside was that there was no hot spring component analysis chart displayed at Yusai's accommodation, which was quite disappointing. We hope they will consider displaying it in the future. Other than that, we had a relaxing time in a calm atmosphere surrounded by nature and felt truly rejuvenated.

    A Slightly Disappointing Accommodation

    Stayed in the 14-tatami Japanese-Western Room at Akari Komichi. There were few hangers to hang clothes, no shower cap among the amenities, and no glass in the room. When I called the front desk, they initially said there was a cup for brushing teeth, but I requested a proper glass for beer and they brought one. During meals, I wanted to drink lemon sour but they didn’t have Ko-rui shochu available. The yukata was also difficult to wear due to its narrow width (and I’m on the slimmer side). It wasn’t as great as some YouTube reviews suggested. However, the hotel is conveniently located by the river and close to the main Onsen town area. There’s no shop on-site, so if you want drinks in your room, vending machines are your only option—offering standard selections with canned beer being the only alcohol available. Overall, it’s not bad for cost performance. Whether you prioritize affordability or prefer spending more for better accommodations depends on personal preference. The hot spring water itself was excellent!

    The bath is excellent.

    The baths, both the Room Bath and Bamboo Grove Bath, were excellent. Check-in was delayed by 10 minutes for everyone at once, which was surprising. The waiting room was also hot. The dining area felt cramped with tables packed closely together, lacking a sense of relaxation. Both the food and beer were unsatisfactory; it would be better to increase the variety of beers and focus on quality over quantity for the meals.

    A long-awaited visit to Kurokawa for my husband's birthday.

    I visited Kurokawa Onsen for the first time in 30 years. Since I plan to visit again in autumn, I decided to check it out beforehand for my husband's birthday. I chose this Ryokan because it had great reviews on YouTube, but relying solely on YouTube can lead to disappointment. It's better not to have overly high expectations. The Facility is old, but the Room was well-cleaned and comfortable enough for a normal stay—nothing extraordinary. There are welcome drinks and lounge services available, but these are common offerings nowadays and didn't feel particularly special. It would be even better if the lounge were open until midnight or if the welcome drink corner were available 24 hours a day. As for customer service, the receptionist was attentive and provided excellent hospitality. The meals had fewer options compared to what I saw on YouTube, but their quality was good overall. Breakfast felt slightly lacking in variety. The Onsen is sourced directly from natural hot springs with five different baths within the Ryokan, which was enjoyable!

    Best value for money

    I stayed in the 14-tatami twin room at Akari Komichi. I loved the atmosphere from the terrace. The meals, both breakfast and dinner, were buffet-style and excellent. The onsen offers a variety of options, and private baths are free of charge. It is also close to Kurokawa Onsen town. This is the most recommended accommodation in Kurokawa!

    Enjoyed Kurokawa Onsen to the fullest.

    Stayed for one night with dinner and breakfast included. There were many baths to enjoy the Onsen experience. The Jizo statue, which is the origin of Kurokawa Onsen, was adorable. Dinner included fresh sashimi, skewered fried dishes, and grilled items, all of which were delicious. The all-you-can-drink alcohol option was also great. With some time before the return bus, I walked to the Hirano-dai Park Observatory. The view of Aso's Five Peaks resembling a reclining Buddha was breathtaking and worth the 40-minute walk each way. The Room was quite small and old-fashioned.

    I had a comfortable stay. However, I was slightly dissatisfied with the variety of dishes, and it was disappointing that the beer mugs were not chilled.

    The baths were numerous and wonderful, but the meals were exactly the same for both nights.

    The meals are served in a buffet style with a wide variety of dishes, but the menu was exactly the same for both nights. Introducing new dishes on the second night would enhance the dining experience and create a sense of anticipation. At least a few items should be changed to provide more variety.

    The sushi at the buffet is excellent.

    The sushi at the buffet was the best I've ever had. The private bath was spacious and enjoyable, but it was crowded as it operates on a first-come, first-served basis.

    I was overwhelmed by the Bamboo Forest Hot Spring.

    Kurokawa Onsen, a place I always wanted to visit. In the room, the sound of the Tanohara River's murmuring was soothing and felt purifying. The bamboo forest onsen, exclusive for accommodation guests, was like a work of art. Simply wonderful. The staff were kind and made my stay very comfortable. Thank you very much!

    The buffet, including dinner, is excellent!

    The Onsen becomes even more serene at night with the quietness of the bamboo grove. The buffet offers a variety of dishes, including an entire Hamachi fish for sashimi, which was visually impressive and enjoyable. Truly remarkable! There is a lounge where you can enjoy alcohol, but some families occupied seats for hours while chatting. I noticed this both before and after dinner, making it unavailable for others to use. It would be great if some restrictions could be implemented so that more guests can enjoy the lounge.

    Excellent value for the price

    The Onsen water made my skin smooth, and with many baths available, including private family baths, I was satisfied even without a Room bath. The Room was spacious, and the view of the waterfall from the window was lovely. The meals had a wide variety and tasted great, though it might feel a bit lively for elderly guests—but that uniqueness could also be enjoyable.

    If it can be settled.

    When I entered the Room, it seemed cozy and reassuring. However, when I lay on the bed and looked at the ceiling, I noticed that a peeling section was reinforced with vinyl tape. Looking around further, the closet handle was damaged, there were no guest hangers provided, the tatami felt uncomfortable to walk on barefoot, and the strings of the jinbaori were frayed. It felt like being assigned to a non-operational Room, which made me feel sad. On a positive note, the bath and meals were incredibly impressive and movingly good, and the foreign staff members worked very diligently. It felt like such a waste given these positives.

    The buffet is disappointing.

    The buffet menu is limited. The sushi is delicious, but the grilled dishes and miso soup were disappointing. The ramen did not suit my taste, and the noodles were not great either. However, having the option for a personal hot pot was a nice touch. The baths were enjoyable with various options to try. Guests staying here might also enjoy exploring the nearby public baths during their visit.

    Anniversary Trip

    We used the property for our 3rd anniversary. Despite the largest cold wave of the season causing significant snowfall, making it seem impossible to go by car, the snow miraculously melted, allowing us to rent a car and head there with normal tires. Even before heading there, when we contacted them by phone, they kindly advised us on which route to take. After arriving at the property, they also provided detailed guidance to the location of the "Yuakari" (Yuakari) lights. There were many baths, and we enjoyed a tour of the baths within the facility. The meals, both dinner and breakfast, were buffet-style and delicious.

    Stayed with three generations

    I stayed in a 10-tatami mat Japanese-style Room in the main building. It wasn't particularly luxurious, but it was clean and nice. The toilet in the Room had been renovated and was clean. There is no bath in the Room, but there are two family baths and about four large public baths, all of which are spacious and clean. The dinner buffet, featuring freshly fried skewers, sashimi, sushi, and more, was all delicious. I would like to stay again.

    I was looking for a delicious buffet, but

    It was a bit disappointing. When staying for several nights, I usually opt for the buffet instead of kaiseki cuisine, but it's hard to find a place with a delicious buffet... It's unfortunate. At check-in, they confirmed the number of guests, but not all amenities for one person were prepared, such as slippers, futon, bath set, and cup... The balcony light didn't turn off at night, and I had to have it repaired. I was told that they would pass on the information to the next day, but nothing happened... There were too many issues, and overall it was just disappointing. Since it was a busy holiday period, I assumed they were overwhelmed and left it at that.

    Family trip

    It was a trip to Kurokawa Onsen with my mother and my daughter and her husband. As I had seen several times in video broadcasts, the quality of the meals was high for a buffet, and they were constantly replenished, allowing us to enjoy them at a leisurely pace. I was informed that the bath could be used from 6 a.m., so I went to check a few minutes before, only to find that it was already marked as in use. I think it would be better to lock it during the times it is not available. It was disappointing.
