The spaciousness was great.
We stayed in the four-person Room. It was spacious, and having two toilets was convenient. However, it was large but a bit awkward to use. It might not bother you much unless you are on a Multiple Night Stay... For using the Onsen, it was inconvenient that each person received only one face towel and one bath towel. I wondered if we were expected to bring our own towel for washing our face. Even though it is a four-person Room, there were only enough bars to hang used towels for two people, which was stressful. Although this is a Hotel where guests remove their shoes at the entrance, we often saw guests dragging suitcases brought in from outside along the hallway, which made us feel uncomfortable. Overall, this Hotel wasn’t a good fit for us.

It was a clean and convenient Accommodation.
It was a pity there was no parking, but the Accommodation was conveniently located near Yubatake and other attractions. The front desk, lobby, and amenity area were all very clean, and breakfast included a complimentary light meal that was more than sufficient. Overall, it was a very comfortable and practical place to stay. I would like to use it again the next time I visit Kusatsu for an overnight stay.

Room assignment is random.
I stayed for several nights. This time I was in a Room next to the main entrance. The semi-open-air bath faces the road; right outside the door is the lounge, and the head of the bed is against the wall on the entrance side. You can hear conversations clearly, so it feels like a row house. Last time, while waiting to check in, there was a group near the front desk lounge loudly talking about explicit topics, and I had to listen to it for a long time—it was an awful start. Because the headboard is pressed right up against the wall on the entrance side, noise carries easily. Throughout the day there were frequent automatic door sounds and banging from shoe lockers, loud conversations from people gathering at the entrance and in the lounge, suitcase wheels rolling by, heavy footsteps on stairs and overhead, and even impact noises loud enough that I jumped up thinking something had happened and opened my door to check several times. Even late at night there was noisy traffic in and out and loud voices. If you know sound carries this much, I would like you to take measures such as locking doors after 11 p.m. Alternatively, since this structure allows noise to travel so easily (and if you inform guests in advance), how about adding earplugs to your amenities? When I stayed previously—and because I was staying multiple nights—you kindly assigned me a Room with less foot traffic (I come for therapeutic hot-spring stays and spend most of my daytime in my Room). This time it was probably one of noisiest locations. There are several Rooms of the same type lined up next door; they didn’t seem to be used since their lights were off morning and night. Still, perhaps for operational reasons I wasn’t assigned one of those Rooms this time, which was disappointing. I understand some noise is unavoidable, but since I took time off work and traveled from far away specifically for rest, I wanted a quieter stay. That said, the in-room bath was excellent. The Room Facility setup is ideal for a short therapeutic hot-spring stay. Breakfast was very appreciated, and amenities were sufficient. With nearby supermarkets and convenience stores you can stock up easily and stay in comfortably. The bath towels also weren’t scratchy like many places. The Wi-Fi is weak—especially near the bath area where reception is almost nonexistent. The facilities are good overall, but unfortunately noise was severe... Whether I would return depends on price.

This time, with the family.
Stayed one night with my fourth-grade son. He was happy with everything—the location, the room, the large public bath, the footbath, and the lobby. The morning bath was especially amazing. I only found out there was a light breakfast after arranging breakfast elsewhere. I wish we could have tried it…

Highly satisfied
I arrived early and was waiting at the Accommodation when a staff member noticed me and kindly spoke to me, allowing for a smooth check-in. The Room was spacious and clean, and I was able to relax very comfortably. Breakfast was included as a complimentary service, and it was more than satisfying. The location is also great—close to Yubatake—so it’s easy to come and go casually. If I have the chance, I’d love to stay again.

We had a relaxing stay.
This was my first visit to Kusatsu. My goal was to stay for two nights, soak in the Onsen, enjoy reading, and unwind from everyday stress. The location is close to Yubatake, and since you need to go out for dinner, it’s very convenient. However, every place I wanted to try had long waits or was closed, so I ended up struggling to find dinner. Next time, I think I’ll choose a Plan with dinner included or make a Reservation at a restaurant in advance. All the staff were warm and kind, with just the right level of attentiveness. It was a cold day, so the footbath was perfect for warming me up from the core. The Room itself feels old-fashioned, but it’s well maintained and clean. I ran the humidifier constantly. If I had one complaint, it would be the emergency ceiling light— even with all lights off, the Room stayed faintly bright. Since I prefer sleeping in complete darkness, it bothered me and made it hard to sleep soundly. Overall, this place has charms that large hotels don’t have. I recommend it for anyone who wants a quiet and relaxing solo stay.

I would like to visit again.
I booked a no meals included plan as I was seeking high-quality onsen and am not fond of heavy Japanese-style breakfast and dinner. I was delighted to find this accommodation exceeded my expectations and perfectly suited my preferences. The property features a footbath, renovated rooms that are clean and spacious, with spotless water facilities. The onsen is always available with natural spring water except for one hour at night for cleaning, providing an uninterrupted relaxing experience. The footbath added to the leisurely atmosphere. The lighting throughout the property, including the rooms, is soft and relaxing without fluorescent lights—perfectly matching my taste. Cleanliness was also impeccable. Although I initially thought there would be no breakfast included, we were informed it was complimentary, so we decided to try it out—and it turned out to be amazing! The soy milk soup had a gentle flavor that surprised me in a good way; it felt comforting. While the vegetable salad was simple with fresh lettuce and neatly presented dressing, even the sausage and egg dish—though minimal—felt thoughtfully prepared with beautiful presentation using ceramic tableware instead of plastic dishes. This attention to detail made the meal feel more luxurious despite its simplicity. The croissant had a light texture true to its nature and tasted delicious. The yogurt resembled thick Greek yogurt paired with crunchy granola—it felt substantial for an accommodation offering such quality yogurt & granola combination. The location is convenient overall; I am extremely satisfied! We are already planning our next trip to Kusatsu Onsen and will definitely stay here again when we do. Thank you very much!

The room is spacious and located in the center of the Onsen town. It would be even better if there was an elevator.

Enjoy Yubatake: No Meals Included Stay
With a weekday off, I decided to visit the long-awaited Yubatake and searched for accommodations nearby. Many were either fully booked or did not accept solo travelers, but Gensen Ichinoyu stood out as it was close to Yubatake and reasonably priced for solo stays. Instead of choosing a plan with dinner at an affiliated hotel, I opted for a no meals included plan and stayed in a room with an open-air bath. While some distant hotels offered shuttle service to Yubatake, which seemed convenient at first, I was glad to avoid waiting in the cold or dealing with crowded buses by staying within walking distance. This allowed me to enjoy nighttime strolls and early morning walks freely. On the first day, I arrived before noon, left my luggage at the accommodation, and headed straight to Yubatake. After visiting Nishinokawara Onsen, trying local specialties like Himokawa Udon, watching the Saru-no-Yumomi Show and Netsu-no-Yumomi Show, exploring retro cafes, I checked in during the evening. The first floor featured a footbath terrace surrounded by a bar area with tables and sofas as well as lockers. Amenities and coffee machines were also available. Although there was a note about potential noise from upstairs due to the building's age, it was completely quiet during my stay. The room was simple yet cozy—perfect for relaxation. After soaking in my private open-air bath for some rest upon arrival, I ventured out again to see Yubatake illuminated at night—a magical sight! Strolling through souvenir shops led me past closing time at my intended Kamameshi restaurant; instead enjoying Hitsumabushi at Yukawa Terrace turned out just as delightful—the Joshu beef was exceptionally delicious. Returning later that night brought another treat: having exclusive use of their large public bath felt luxurious! Early morning walks around serene Yubatake without crowds provided refreshing tranquility before breakfast—a light buffet followed by one last soak in my private bath before checkout. I spent remaining hours exploring Kusatsu’s attractions such as Kusatsu Tropical Wonderland Park & Goza-no-Yu Bathhouse while savoring chicken-and-maitake mushroom Kamameshi alongside hidden cafes until catching departure buses homeward-bound under perfect weather conditions enhancing every moment spent here! Thanks largely due toward Gensen Ichinoyu’s excellent location paired alongside comfortable rooms—it made experiencing everything Kusatsu offers seamless enjoyable overall highly recommendable friends alike future visits ahead!

It was a beautiful Hotel.
Close to Yubatake and within walking distance of Jizo-no-Yu, which can be used for free, making it very convenient. Amenities were placed in front of the reception area, allowing guests to take them freely. Free water and coffee were available near the reception and the large communal bath, which was a nice touch. The room was clean and spacious. Although some reviews mentioned noise, it was quiet during my stay, and I was not bothered by any sounds. As mentioned on the Hotel's website, there is no elevator, which is why I deducted one star from the Facility rating. I made a No Meals Included Reservation, but I was offered a light breakfast at check-in, which I appreciated. For those who prefer a full breakfast, eating outside might be a better option. Since I usually eat very little in the morning, the provided breakfast was sufficient for me. It was nice to have this complimentary service. I would love to stay here again when visiting Kusatsu.

A bit disappointing.
The hotel itself is not bad, but the service was the worst I’ve experienced in a long time. I stayed in a room on the 4th floor, and: ① There is no elevator. This should have been mentioned when checking the reservation. For this price, there should be luggage-carrying services for rooms on the 3rd floor or higher. The stairs are quite steep, so those with mobility issues should avoid staying above the 2nd floor. ② I was shocked when a front desk staff member asked if an explanation was necessary despite it being written on a QR code. They should explain everything first and then mention the QR code afterward. The service level is low. ③ There’s no phone in the room, which is important information that wasn’t mentioned at check-in. I had to call reception using my mobile phone instead. While certain facilities are well-equipped, there seems to be poor staff training and low motivation among employees at this hotel. It was my first visit to Kusatsu—are other hotels here like this? I plan to stay elsewhere in October for comparison purposes.

Generally satisfied
Originally resembling an old Ryokan, the interior may feel aged with sounds echoing, but the facility has been renovated and is clean. The personalized service is excellent; however, it seems understaffed as cleaning within the premises feels insufficient (a dead bee remained on the stairs for three days). The simple breakfast was satisfying and enjoyable. Located close to Yubatake, it is convenient for sightseeing. I would like to stay here again if I have another opportunity.

The room was spacious, clean, and well-equipped.
The hotel was exceptionally clean, and the Onsen with a high sulfur content helped relieve my fatigue. The bed was very comfortable to sleep on. The staff at the facility were kind and provided attentive service, creating a pleasant atmosphere. I would love to visit again.

Perfect for a staycation!
Overall, the hotel has been renovated with a youthful vibe. The room was on the first floor, so it was close to the entrance, and there was some noise during check-in and check-out. The room was more than spacious enough for two people, and we thoroughly enjoyed the Onsen. The service was excellent. Amenities were also well-stocked.

There was no water in the Room, and there was no internal phone. For dinner, we had to move to another Hotel by bus. I would have appreciated it if at least water had been provided, even for a fee. Also, I would have liked to be informed that there was no water in the Room at check-in. Especially since the heating was too strong, it was troublesome in this dry season.

Facilities perfect for a short hot spring cure.
Stayed for 3 nights for a petite hot spring cure. The room bath, mini kitchen, kettle, and microwave were extremely convenient. Kitchen utensils can also be borrowed. I was happy that a simple breakfast was included. Despite being in a prime location just 2 minutes from the Yubatake, it was nice to have the tranquility of the back of Kusatsu. The downside is that cars cannot enter, so carrying luggage and the many steps inside may not be suitable for those with concerns about their legs or back. Is the basket to take to the hot spring meant to be taken inside the bath area? There were people showering it vigorously. They also took off their slippers on the bath mat. I think they were foreigners, but compared to other properties, there were fewer English etiquette signs, so many people seemed to bathe freely.

Enjoy a luxurious Room at an affordable price.
Overall, it felt like a clean and modern hotel. It is very close to the Yubatake, and there are spots nearby called Ura-Kusatsu and Jizo Gensen. There is a coffee server and a resting area outside the large public bath, and there are spaces to relax other than the lobby. The footbath and bar counter are compact, but the atmosphere is excellent. Additional towel rentals are available, making it convenient to visit nearby Onsen and footbaths. The baths in the room and the large public bath have different water qualities, and although small, they were enjoyable. After storing your shoes at the entrance, you will move around the facility in socks, but slippers are also available for those who are uncomfortable with this. Meals are served at a different hotel, but the buffet was highly satisfying and worth the trip! A recommended route is to eat to your heart's content, take a stroll through Kusatsu at night, enjoy a footbath, and return to the hotel.

I'm glad I used it!
I stayed with my partner! The room with an open-air bath was perfect for a relaxing trip! The open-air bath was amazing! I even used it as a foot bath in the morning. The guidance was smooth and very helpful! The amenities were plentiful, including a hairdryer and curling iron, which was great. I was also happy that breakfast was included for free. Since the main dish is only bread, please prepare your own rice if you want to eat it. Overall, it was great!

The room had a very beautiful interior. The facilities such as the stairs and corridors felt a bit historical, but they were very nicely renovated, allowing us to relax comfortably in the room. I would like to visit again. Breakfast is also included for free.

Room bath is excellent
I stayed in a room with a bath, and it was very nice. Since the water is drawn from the Yubatake, it is a bit lukewarm at this time of year, but it's not a problem as I went in several times! Since the facility has no elevator, there were many young people.

Thank you for the other day. As it is still a new Property, the interior and Room were clean. Here are some points of concern. 1. At check-in, the lobby was crowded with people, and we were told to wait as they called us in order, which took quite a while. I was surprised as it was the first time I had to wait so long for check-in. 2. It was disappointing that there was no fabric refresher in the Room. Since Kusatsu is an Onsen travel destination, many people are likely to wear the same clothes for two days. Nowadays, even Business Hotels always have them, so please consider providing it.

It was a good trip.
The room was beautiful and spacious enough. The Onsen had great water and was very relaxing. The breakfast was just right, and since we planned to have lunch outside afterward, it was perfect. The atmosphere in Ura-Kusatsu was nice, and the access was good. The Now Resort Hotel where we parked the car was a bit far, but since we didn't use the car during our stay, it wasn't a problem. I will visit again.

Parent-child trip
I got a little lost from Kusatsu Bus Terminal. Once I found the location, it was close to Yubatake, and there were quite a few restaurants nearby where I could have dinner, such as ramen shops, yakiniku restaurants, and Korean restaurants. The room was lovely, and since I wanted to relax, I took out pizza from an Italian restaurant near Yubatake. It was a cozy and wonderful room. The cleaning was thorough, and it was clean. Breakfast was also included as a service, which was a great deal. There was a footbath, and the chairs inside the building were lovely, allowing me to relax. The hot spring was also good, and I ended up going in three times, but I could still smell the distinctive sulfur scent even while sleeping. It was very warming and good water.

I wanted an elevator.
The simple breakfast service was satisfying, and the staff's response was good. Perhaps due to renovations, there was no elevator, and since my room was on the fourth floor, it was a bit challenging to go back and forth on the maze-like stairs multiple times. The room's air conditioning was centrally controlled for the entire building, so I couldn't adjust it and felt a bit cold. (It seems there was a prior explanation, but I didn't notice it.) However, the hotel and the rooms were well-cleaned, and the foot bath on the front desk floor was nice.

First hot spring trip with my girlfriend
A very lovely ryokan. This says it all! We used the shuttle bus from the parking lot and arrived at the Yubatake. We used the mobile navigation to get to the hotel. As shown in the photos, we were welcomed with lanterns. After completing the kind and courteous check-in, we arrived at our room to find a wonderful space unfolding before us. The view from the room is also fantastic. Choosing this ryokan was definitely the right decision! We were able to have a wonderful time. I definitely want to repeat my stay at this ryokan on the next occasion!
